Mildred V. Allen, 97, of 448 Groffdale Road, Quarryville, PA, formerly of Homeville, PA died on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Charles H. Allen who died in 1998.
Mrs. Allen was homemaker. She was a member of St Paul’s Church, Quarryville, PA., and the Russellville Grange. Mildred was born in Tennessee, daughter of the late Elias and Enola Porter Vines. She is survived by her son Marshall P. marriage to Dot Allen of Quarryville, PA, one grandson, two great grandchildren, and her brother Allen Vines of Houston, TX. She was predeceased by her brothers Herman and B. Hooper Vines. The Funeral Service will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Rineer officiating. Lewis R. “Bud” Barr
Lewis R. “Bud” Barr, 81, of 9 Fresh Meadow Drive, Lancaster, PA, died on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. He was the husband of the late Violet M. Barr who died in 2002.
Bud had worked for 40 years for Lancaster Pump. He was also a self employed plumber. Bud enjoyed watching Philly’s games, and spending time with his friends at the former Vi Barr’s Luncheonette. He was also involved with the Lampeter Fire Company. He attended Abbeyville Road Christian Church, Lancaster. Bud was born in New Providence, son of the late John and Nellie Barr. He is survived by his son Ronald, marriage to Donna Barr of Lancaster, PA, his son Lewis R. Barr, Jr of Mountville, and a sister Alma Kopp of Millersville, PA.
A private graveside service will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. The family would like to invite everyone to attend a memorial service to be held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Abbeyville Road Christian Church, 551 Abbeyville Road, Lancaster, PA. Katherine "Katie" Blantz
Katherine M. “Katie” Blantz, 94, formerly of Puseyville Road, Kirkwood died Monday evening at Manor Care in Lancaster. She was the widow of Walter Blantz, Sr. who died on May 2, 1985. Katie was born in Manheim, a daughter of the late Fred and Mary Lenhart Drescher. A homemaker and seamstress, she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Quarryville. Katie enjoyed politics, reading, gardening, drawing, sewing and her hat collection.
She is survived by 6 children, sons; Walter G., Jr. marriage to Pauline Blantz of Leola, Glenn V. Blantz of Witmer, Clair N. Blantz, Sr. of Marietta, Jerrold T. marriage to Ginny Blantz of Ronks, daughters; Julie Blantz of Kensington, MD, and Janice Vanderslice of Honeybrook; daughters in law, Marie Blantz and Mary Jo Blantz; 22 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Katie was preceded in death by 3 sons, Robert F., Sr., Richard B., and Dale; a grandson and a granddaughter.

Walter G. Blantz, Jr.
Walter G. Blantz, Jr., age 75, of 473 Brendon Drive, Leola, PA went to be the Lord on Wednesday morning at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. He and his wife Pauline R. Brown Blantz were marriage for 45 years. Walter was born in Manheim, a son of the late Walter G. and Katherine M. “Katie” Drescher Blantz, Sr.
He was employed as a milk truck driver for John Ewell, East Earl for 20 years. He also delivered auto parts for Car Quest in Gap. Walter attended Leola Baptist Church and was a member of the Pequea Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting, car races, fishing, and watching his sons play softball. Surviving beside his wife are 9 children, Douglas Blantz of Gap, Clifford marriage to Lori Blantz of Strasburg, Gary marriage to Rose Blantz of Lancaster, Darryl marriage to Kelly Blantz of Leola, Lisa marriage to Robert Fisher of Lancaster, Georgia Blantz of Hawaii, Angie Blantz of Colorado, Donald marriage to Teresa Blantz of Michigan and Ronald Blantz of Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 3 brothers, Glenn V. Wilmer P. "Bill" Bolton
Wilmer P. “Bill” Bolton, 86, of 1210 Susquehannock Drive, Holtwood, Pa died on Monday, June 26, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary B. Long Bolton, and they had celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Drumore Twp. and a retired farmer. He had served as a member of the Drumore Township Board of Supervisors from 1963-1993, and during his tenure he held the leadership positions of president and vice president. As a supervisor, he was instrumental in the establishment of zoning, the numbering of houses and naming of roads, and implementation and completion of the Muddy Run project and Drumore Park. Bill also served as the judge of elections for the township, and was honored as the Solanco Republican of the Year in 1998. He had been active with the Pa Supervisors Assoc., and Lancaster County Assoc. of Township Officials, of which he was the treasurer. Bill had also been a member of the Fulton Grange for 65 years, and a lifetime member of the Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, as well as a board member of the Drumore Friends Cemetery Association. Bill was instrumental in developing relations with Dromore, Ireland, and served as treasurer of the committee to raise funds to entertain visitors from that country in 1977. He had also served on the Solanco School Board in 1960. In 1992, Lancaster County dedicated a bridge over Fishing Creek, “Scalpy Hollow Bridge” in Wilmer’s name for his dedication to the community.
He was born in Drumore Twp., son of the late Leslie and Mary Scott Bolton. In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by 2 daughters; Sister Anita Bolton, a sister of the Holy Redeemer, of Philadelphia, Mary K. marriage to Peter Tassmer of Holtwood, Pa, 2 grandchildren; Shannon Tassmer of Newark, DE, and Heather Tassmer of Holtwood, Pa, and his sister Florence marriage to Stephen Roka of Holtwood, Pa. He is predeceased by a sister Sara Bolton Wissler.
The Funeral Service will be held at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, Pa on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 11:30 A.M. with Rev. Michael Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Drumore Friends Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 10:00-11:30 AM. Ethel Violet Bleacher
Ethel Violet Bleacher, 90, of 419 Appaloosa Way, Red Lion, PA died on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Lancaster General Hospital. Ethel had lived most of her life in Lancaster County. Mrs. Bleacher had been employed by Lancaster Burlap and Bag Company, and had also worked in the kitchen at the former Willows Restaurant, Lancaster. She was also a member of Jubilee Outreach Ministries, Red Lion, PA and had also been a member of Assembly of God Church, Lancaster. Her life was the church.
Ethel was born in Quarryville, daughter of the late William and Lydia marriage to Elizabeth Bleacher of Millersville, PA, her son Dennis, marriage to Dee Bleacher of Pottstown, her daughter Jane Glessner with whom she resided, her daughter Mary Ann, marriage to Glenn Miller of Knightsville, SC, 11 grandchildren, several great grand children, several great great grand children, sister Catherine Wolf of Parkesburg, and sister Mary Ann Eby of Columbia, PA. She was predeceased by 7 brothers and 1 sister.

Harold Lee “Jake” Bower
QUARRYVILLE -- Harold Lee “Jake” Bower, 76, passed on March 6, 2006 at the Conestoga View Nursing Home after a battle with cancer, according to the Lock Haven Express. Bower purchased a jewelry store in Quarryville on July 3, 1972 which he named Bower Jewelers. His son, Gerald Lee is the current owner of the store, which is located at 29 E. State Street, Quarryville.
Bower was the husband of Velma Nichols Bower whom he marriage on May 12, 1948. He was born on Aug. 18, 1929 in Rote, to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Streck.
While attending school he went to work for his Sunday School teacher Fred Eisemann in Lock Haven where he got his start as a jeweler. Today, Eisemann's the Diamond Center is located along Hogan Boulevard, in Mill Hall. Bower worked as a jeweler for 62 years.
Harold’s hobbies included coin collecting, hunting, fishing, archery and restoring old watches. He was also in the National Champion Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a director and treasurer of the Lancers Junior Drum and Bugle Corps of Lock Haven. He also loved spending time at his camp in Clinton County along the Susquehanna River.
Harold is also survived by his son, Gerald Lee Bower, current owner of Bower Jewelers Inc. and his wife, Deborah. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ralph and his daughter, Sharon Button. Ralph had passed at 22 months after a brain operation at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia in 1953.
Memorial services will be held at the Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lock Haven on Monday, March 13, 2006 at 1 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Lois Martin of the St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Lock Haven. The family would appreciate any contributions in Harold’s name being made to Hospice Care of Lancaster through the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Yos-Gedon Funeral Home, 121 West Main St., Lock Haven, Pa.
