Miriam Wise, age 87, formerly of Bowmansville, Lancaster County, died Tuesday, August 24, 2005, at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, where she resided since 1999. Born May 16, 1918, in Shillington, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Erma (Hoffert) Lyons, and was the widow of Paul S. Wise, who died December 23, 1998. She was a member of St. Paul ’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville, and enjoyed sewing, knitting and bowling. Miriam was a former Girl Scout Leader in Bowmansville and volunteered for 15 years at the Thrift Shop of Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, Berks County. Mrs. Wise was bookkeeper and secretary with her husband’s firm, Paul S. Wise Contractor, Bowmansville. She was also a member of John Hepler Chapter #521 Order of Eastern Star, West Reading. Surviving is a son, Leonard H., husband of Brenda (Kilhefner) Wise, Bowmansville, PA ; a daughter, Nancy E., wife of Bruce G. Werner, Carlisle, PA; a granddaughter and a great-grandson. A brother, Paul Lyons, preceded her in death.
There will be no public viewing. Private services will be held from Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Inc. of Reamstown with her pastor, The Reverend Robert A. Witmyer, officating.

Arlan R. Withers
August 31, 1936 - October 19, 2001
Arlan R. Withers, 65, of 90 North Reamstown Road, Reamstown, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly early Friday morning in the emergency room of Ephrata Community Hospital where he was taken after being stricken with a heart attack at his residence. Born in West Reading, Berks County, he was a son of the late Raymond Y. and Mazie W. (Kessler) Withers. He was the husband of Anna M. (Sheaffer) Withers for 43 years on July 19, 2001. Withers was the third generation owner and operator of G. S. Withers & Sons Monuments, Reamstown, for 46 years, a business founded in 1879 by his grandfather. His son, Raymond A. Withers, is associated with the family business and will continue the tradition. He was a member of the East Cocalico Lions Club of Reamstown. His wife and son are his sole survivors.
Arlan's funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, October 23, 2001, at 10:00 AM from our parlors. Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery, East Cocalico Township, PA. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

Howard L. Wolf
November 25, 1912 - December 21, 2004
Howard L. Wolf, 92, of 158 North Reamstown Road, Stevens, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, died Tuesday, December 21, in Ephrata Community Hospital. He had been a guest at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center, Narvon, Lancaster County, for the past 18 months. Born in East Cocalico Township, he was a son of the late John F. and Carrie A. (Von Neida) Wolf. His wife of 58 years, Sallie A. (Fry) Wolf, died December 7, 2004. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, and was a former member of the board of Muddy Creek Cemetery. A self-employed farmer most of his life he also drove school bus for the Cocalico School District for many years. Wolf was a Navy veteran of World War II and was an active supporter of farmland preservation. Surviving is a son, Raymond L., husband of Donna (Cooper) Wolf, Stevens; 2 grandchildren, Bradley, husband of Jennifer (Galvan) Wolf, and Lori, wife of Tim Patterson; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kathryn M. Zerbe, Ephrata, PA.
A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, December 23, 2004, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our parlors and on Friday morning, December 24, 2004, from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at the church.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Howard will begin at 10:00 AM from Peace United Church of Christ, 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517, with his pastor, The Reverend William E. Hoch, officiating. Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery, Swartzville, Lancaster County, PA.

Kurt M. Whitaker

Kurt M. Whitaker, 30, of 1153 East Main Street, Akron, Lancaster County, died in a motorcycle accident late Saturday evening on Route 272 in West Earl Township, Lancaster County, involving several cars. An autopsy will be conducted at Conestoga View, Lancaster, on Monday. Born in Ephrata, Lancaster County, he was a son of James H. Whitaker, Adamstown, Lancaster County, and Jennifer A. (DeLong) Smith, Denver, Lancaster County. He was of the catholic faith. Kurt was co-owner/operator of Whitaker Motors, Adamstown, a family business for the past 5 years. He enjoyed boating, skiing and motorcycling. Surviving in addition to his parents, are 2 brothers, Bret A., husband of Cathrine E. (Porter) Whitaker, Stevens; and Jonathan J. Whitaker, Adamstown; a sister, Kathryn P. Smith, Denver; a step-mother, Brenda L. (Mays) Whitaker, Adamstown; a step-father, D. William J. Womer, Jr.
March 14, 1951 - March 23, 2004
William J. Womer, Jr., 53, of 15 Sleepy Hollow Drive, Mohrsville, Berks County, died in his residence of an apparent heart attack on Tuesday, March 23. Berks County Coroner, Nicholas Bybel, M.D., will be issuing the death certificate. Born in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, he was a son of William J. Womer, Sr., Stevens, Lancaster County, and the late Eileen H. (Woll) Womer. He was a member of Hopeland United Methodist Church, Lititz, Lancaster County. Womer was employed as a truck driver and mechanic with Gretz Distributing, Norristown, and previously he worked for the former Northeast Distributing, Reading. Bill was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a 1969 graduate of Ephrata High School, Ephrata, Lancaster County, and was a Marine Corps veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Surviving in addition to his father is a sister, Jean E., marriage to Donald E. Moyer, Stevens; 2 nephews and a grand-nephew.
A service celebrating William's life will be held Monday, March 29, 2004, at 7:00 PM from our parlors with The Reverend Lawrence Richards officiating.
Bill's cremains will be interred privately in Hopeland Cemetery, Clay Township, Lancaster County, PA.

William J. “Bill” Womer, 77, of 545 Hopeland Road, Stevens, Lancaster County, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at 7:40 AM in the Ephrata Community Hospital where he was taken after becoming ill while walking near his home. (natural) Born April 2, 1927, in Zerbe, Schuylkill Co., son of the late Leroy & Francis (White) Womer, he was husband of the late Elaine H. (Woll) Womer, who died in 1998. A member & choir member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kleinfeltersville, Lebanon County, he retired in 1989 after 28 years as general mine foreman of Bethlehem Steel Corp., at both their Cornwall & Grace Mines, Morgantown. A WWII Navy veteran he was a life-member of Amateur Trap Shooters Assoc., Vandelia, Ohio, and The Ephrata Lodge #665 Free & Accepted Masons. Bill was a longtime caretaker of Hopeland Cemetery & enjoyed walking,. Survived by daughter, Jean (Womer), wife of Donald E. Moyer, Stevens; 2 grandchildren, Donald Jr., husband of Blushiree Moyer & Tyrone Moyer, a great-grandson, Donald Mizzoni; & a sister, Florence Tobin, Tremont. Also predeceased by a son, William Womer, Jr. earlier this year.
The family will receive friends from Trinity United Methodist Church, 110 Millbach Road, Kleinfeltersville, Lebanon County, PA, on Wednesday evening, November 10, 2004, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM with the celebration of Bill's life beginning at 7:00 PM.

Helen M. Yecker
November 9, 1907 - May 12, 2004
Helen M. Yecker, 96, formerly of Ephrata, Lancaster County, died Wednesday afternoon, May 12, 2004, at 2:55 PM in Fairmount Homes – Wheat Ridge, Farmersville, Lancaster County, where she resided for the past 5 ˝ years. Born in Martindale, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late John Weidler and Annie (Martin) Buch. She was a 1923 graduate of Terre Hill High School and attended Lancaster Business College. Helen was the oldest member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Akron, Lancaster County. She was previously a long-time member of Bergstrasse Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ephrata, where she was the first female council member. Retiring in 1977, Mrs. Yecker was the personnel manager for 39 years at the former Walter W. Moyer, Inc., Ephrata, having been hired personally by W. W. Moyer out of business college. She was also instrumental in the setup of their former factory in Tempe, Arizona. Surviving are 3 daughters, Joan B. (Yecker), marriage to Earl R. Weaver, Akron, PA; Martha Y. (Yecker), marriage to James V. Fulmer, Lancaster, PA; and Helen B. (Yecker), marriage to Jacob I. Burkholder, Jr., Ephrata, PA; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son and 2 sisters, Blanche (Buch) McKirachan Wright and Lillian (Buch) Gehman.
A viewing will be held on Monday morning, May 17, 2004, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 435 Main Street, Akron, PA 17501. The ceremony celebrating Helen's life will begin at 10:00 AM with her pastor, The Rev. H. James Tanner, officating. Burial will follow in Bergstrasse Cemetery, Ephrata Township, Lancaster County, PA.
