Elizabeth P. Kessler, 83, of 62 Rose Ave., Leola, died Monday afternoon at Lancaster General Hospital of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Clair Kessler in 1978. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Amy (Weaver) Pontz. Mrs. Kessler graduated with a B. Ed. from Millersville University. She taught in the one-room at Silver Hill near Bowmansville. Additionally, she taught third grade for East Lampeter schools and was a substitute teacher for over 25 years in the Conestoga Valley IU-13. An active member of Salem United Church of Christ Hellers, she had been confirmed at the Eden United Church of Christ. An avid gardener, she was a Red Cross volunteer for over 25 years at Lancaster General Hospital, having earned her 5000 hour pin. She was also a life member of the Upper Leacock Fire Company Auxiliary, was a former Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 54, Leola and was active as a school volunteer and in the Upper Leacock War Memorial Association. Surviving is a daughter, Kathryn "Kay" marriage to Dan Lingle of Lancaster and a son, Robert H. marriage to Sarah E. Kessler of Leola. Also one granddaughter and a brother, John Pontz of West Palm Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Rossman. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at 2 pm at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA with the Rev. Gregory Homan officiating. Interment in Bowmansville Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 until the time of service. Kindly omit flowers. Mohler Jr., Frank

FRANK MOHLER JR., 74, of 1925 Bowmansville Road, Mohnton, PA, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Ephrata Community Hospital of natural causes. Born in Ephrata, PA, he was the son of Ada Irene Leisey Mohler of Lititz and the late Frank Mohler . He celebrated his 53rd wedding anniversary on June 24th to Anna M. Adam Mohler. Mr. Mohler owned and operated the Adamstown Equipment Inc., Mohnton for 43 years from 1960 until June 2003 when he sold to his partner. Mr. Mohler was a member of St..John Center Lutheran Church. He was baptized there in 1953 and formerly served as Church council member, Youth Group advisor, and an usher for many years. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother is one sister, Ada Alberta Rodgers of Brownstown, PA. Preceding him in death is one brother, R. Donald Mohler. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at St. John Center Lutheran Church, 599 Reading Road, East Earl, PA with the Reverend William A. Martin officiating. Interment will be in the Center Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 8 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. John Center Lutheran Church Building Fund, 599 Reading Road, East Earl, PA 17519.

Mummaw, Wayne "Moe"

Wayne "Moe" Mummaw, 79,of 9 Countryside Drive, Gordonville, formerly of New Holland, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. He had been ill since March. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Kurtz) Mummaw. They had observed their 31st anniversary on October 1. Born in R., D., Columbia, he was the son of the late Vernon and Rebecca G. (Young) Mummaw. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1940. Mr. Mummaw retired from Masonic Homes Power House where he had worked from 1983 to 1993. He has previously been employed in the boiler room as a tender and mechanic at the former Zausner Foods, New Holland form 1964-1983. He had served in the U. S. Navy from 1942-1962 through World War II and the Korean Conflict. His hobbies included auto racing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-son, Neal, marriage to Pam (Jones) Overly of New Holland, and two step-daughters: Cindy Overly and Lisa, marriage to David Bush, both of New Holland. Also three grandchildren and a brother, Vernon Mummaw, Jr., marriage to Ferne Mummaw of Orange Park, FL. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Eva Jane Sherts and Lillian Rettew. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P. Petersheim, Stephen M.

Stephen M. Petersheim, 79, of 1067 Main St., P. O. Box 61, Blue Ball, PA died Tuesday morning at his home after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Mabel M. (Weaver) Petersheim. They observed their 55th wedding anniversary on March 6. Born in Morgantown, he was the son of the late S. K. and Malinda (Mast) Petersheim. Mr. Petersheim was a mechanic working at El-Mor Chevrolet, Inc., Morgantown and later at Ziemer Buick-Pontiac-GMC Truck, Inc., New Holland. He had last been employed as a maintenance man at Tel Hai Retirement Community, Honey Brook and had also been the bus driver for Tel Hai, making weekly runs to Yoder's Market. A member of Conestoga Mennonite Church, Morgantown, Stephen was also a 50 year member of Buck Hollow Hunting Club, Renovo, PA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. He had also been a pitcher in the New Holland Softball League and the Tri County Softball League. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Wilma marriage to David Smoker, Morgantown and Brenda marriage to David Musselman, New Holland; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also three brothers: Elmer M. Petersheim, Oley; John M. Petersheim, Morgantown; and Walter M. Petersheim, Elverson and two sisters: Martha Lantz, Morgantown and Elizabeth marriage to Earl Martin Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Kenneth Petersheim on July 1, 2001 and two sisters: Ruth Good and Sarah Burkholder. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Friday, August 1, 2003 at 10 am at the Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown, PA with Pastor Alvin B. Horning and Pastor Jason M. Smoker officiating. Interment in the adjoining church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Starner, Ellen Alberta

ELLEN ALBERTA STARNER, 81, of 448 died Tuesday morning at the Danken House, Wernersville, where she resided, of natural causes. Born in Jefferson Twp., PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary Crossman. Her husband, Elmer H. Starner, died June 24, 1967. She worked most of her life as a farm assistant. There are no survivors. Interment will be Thursday at 9 AM at the Mellingers Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster. Arrangements are with the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill, PA.

Stauffer, Dorothy Pyle

Dorothy Pyle Stauffer, 85, of 143 East Broad Street, New Holland, died Tuesday afternoon at Fairmount Homes where she had resided for the past year. Her husband, Gilbert W. "Skip" Stauffer, died in 1993. Born in Atglen, PA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Pyle Cochran. Mrs. Stauffer was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, New Holland. She enjoyed baking, bowling, knitting, poetry and playing bridge. She is survived by three daughters: Beverly Berwind of New Holland, Suzie marriage to Nelson Wert of Townsend, MT, and Sally marriage to Thomas Shattuck of Belchertown, MA, and one son, Jeffry L. marriage to Debi Hall Stauffer of Narvon; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 West Main St., New Holland, PA, with the Rev. Leon Richwine officiating. Interment in St. Stephen U.C.C. Cemetery, New Holland. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. on Saturday until time of services. Raymond G. Horning

Raymond G. Horning, 87, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Esther A. Martin Horning. They had observed their 65th anniversary on October 21st. Born in Fivepointville, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ada Horst Horning. Raymond started his career in New Holland with the former Mellinger Ford and in 1945 started the Showalter & Horning auto dealership in New Holland with John Showalter. In 1961, Showalter & Horning became Horning Dodge, Inc. where he continued working until his retirement in 1982. He was a charter member of Christian Fellowship Church when it formed in 1971 and served on the Elder Board and as treasurer. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the former Enterprise Telephone Company. He enjoyed golfing in his later years as well as traveling, reading and growing roses. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Donald M. marriage to Carol Groff Horning, New Holland and a daughter, Janet M. marriage to Reuben Z. Zeiset, Narvon; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Rutt, Mill Hall. He was preceded in death by a brother Willis Horning and a sister Mabel Burkhart. His funeral will be held on Saturday, May 7, at 2 PM at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Rd., New Holland with Pastor Aaron Webb officiating. Interment in the adjoining Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 PM. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
