Mildred E. Barber, 83, of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement and formerly of Philadelphia, died Tuesday evening at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of the late William H. Barber who died in 2002.
Born in Philadelphia the daughter of the late William Edwin and Margaret Estelle Mumbauer Seidle. Mildred was a housewife. She was a life member of Bethel Chapel in Philadelphia where she sang in the choir. Also Mildred sang in Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community s choir. Mildred enjoyed children and was active in children s evangelism in Philadelphia and continued working in the Quarryville area with Release Time, a children s ministry program.
A daughter-in-law, Jean A. Frazier of Bristol, PA; 2 grandsons, Brian D. Barber of Willow Grove, PA and Kevin T. Barber of Lansdale, PA and a brother, Valentine V. Seidle of Doylestown, PA survive her.
Funeral Services will be on Monday at 10:00 from the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community s Ellingsworth Auditorium, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville with Chaplain Stephen Phillips officiating. Family will greet friends after the service. Interment will be at 2:00 in the Sunset Memorial Park in Feasterville, PA. Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Quarryville is assisting the family.
Tianna Marie Vargas

Tianna Marie Vargas, one day old, died Wednesday at Lancaster General Women and Babies Hospital. Tianna was the daughter of Shalana Lanee Glass and Damian Vargas of Lancaster.
Besides her parents, she is survived by sister, Aria Vargas; maternal grandmother, Kathy Storms; maternal grandfather, Sherman Glass; paternal grandfather, Damian Vargas; maternal great-grandmother, Julie Weaver, all of Lancaster. Also surviving are maternal great-grandfather, Donald, husband of Lorraine Storms, Los Angeles, CA; paternal grandmother, Amalia Torres of Staten Island, NY and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Richard L. Odenwalt

Richard L. Odenwalt, 80, of 814 Plane St., Columbia died Thursday evening at the Lebanon VA Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was the husband of the late Dorothy Goldsborough Odenwalt who preceded him in death in 1997. A lifelong Columbia resident he was the son of the late Harry and Ada Aument Odenwalt. Dick retired from Donsco Inc., Wrightsville where he worked 35 years as a molder. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre of Operations. Dick was a lifetime member of the Red Rose Memorial Post 2435 VFW and the Susquehanna Fire Co. both in Columbia.
Surviving are his children, Ralph C., husband of Sally (Eckman) Mahan, Jr. Marietta; John E., husband of Ruth (Swarr) Mahan, Sr. Columbia, Donald L., husband of Elizabeth Markley Mahan, Columbia, Patricia A. Greenawalt, Columbia, Rosemary, wife of John W. Kramer, Marietta and Barbara A. Odenwalt, Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and siblings, Harry Odenwalt, Lancaster, Raymond Odenwalt, Elizabethtown, Merle Odenwalt, Columbia, Helen Vieria, Columbia, Elizabeth Boyles, Marietta, Mary Boswa, Lancaster, Grace Burkholder, Leola and Emmalee Falcon of Marietta also survive. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings.
Funeral services will be held from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia on Tuesday at 11:00AM with the Rev. Mark Kopp, officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday one-hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions to the Lebanon VA Hospice, 1700 S. Franklin W. Helikson

Franklin W. Helikson, 85, died Feb. 16 in Brooksville, FL. Born in New Ulm, Minnesota, he was the husband of Margaret Wilmoth Helikson, with whom he celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. July 25, 2004. He was a mechanical engineer and retired to Florida from Lancaster, PA in 1991. A Captain in the US Army Air Force during WWII, he served under General Chennault in the China, Burma, India theater. He tested and flew over 35 different aircraft with "The Flying Tigers" and was the recipient of The Distinguished Flying Cross and two Bronze Stars. After the war, he tested the first planes to use jet assisted take off.
In addition to his wife, Maggie, he is survived by 5 children, Carol, wife of Ernie Ramirez, Brooksville, FL, Marcia Anderson, Carlsbad, CA, Mark, husband of Linda Helikson, Charlotte, NC, Janice, wife of Richard Weaver, Lititz, PA and Scott Helikson, Cozumel, Mexico. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Interment was Mar. 23rd at Bushnell Veterans Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
Elsworth L. Gibbs

Elsworth L. Gibbs, 82, of Mount Joy, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Thursday morning at Hospice of Lancaster County.
He was born in Sidney, OH and served as an airplane mechanic during WWII.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Gibbs was employed by the National Standard Co., now, Mount Joy Wire Corp.
He is survived by 2 sons, Edwin C. of Seaside OR and Paul H. of Lancaster; 3 daughters, Linda Stoop of Carlisle, Marcia I. Mackey of Abilene, TX and Lori J. Eltz of Mount Joy.; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005 from the Frank S. Miller Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street at 1:00 PM. Friends may call from 1:00 until the time of service. Ella Hawthorne

Ella Hawthorne, 86, of 5689 Street Road, Kirkwood died Thursday evening at her home. She was the widow of Paul P. Hawthorne, Sr. who died on December 3, 1964.
She was born in Ashville, NC, a daughter of the late Linville and Luella Howell Church. A homemaker she enjoyed collecting dolls.
Ella is survived by four daughters, Ruby, marriage to Freeman Taylor of Nottingham, Gladys Kauffman of Berwick, Anna Mae, marriage to John death by two sons, Joseph Charles who died one day prior to her death and John D and three brothers, Webb, Earl and Cancel.
Funeral services will be held from the Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville on Monday at 11:00AM. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00AM until the time of service.
Arvita M. Detra
Arvita M. Detra, 101, formerly of 765 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Hamilton Arms Center where she had lived for eight years.
She was born in Philadelphia, the daughter of Susan Espenshade and Abraham L. Butzer. She was the wife of the late Banks W. Detra, who died in 1984.
Surviving are daughter, Merle, marriage to George E. Murray, Jr., of Lancaster; a niece, Verna S. Moyer, of Milton Grove and several cousins.
She was a longtime member of Covenant United Methodist Church, where she had served on the decorating committee for many years.
She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and crafts and won numerous awards for her entries in local hobby and craft shows.
Funeral services will be held at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, 320 Blue Rock Road, Route 999, Millersville, PA on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 10 AM with the Rev. Dr. J. Val Hastings, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville, PA. Friends may call at Scheid's on Tuesday between 9:30 and 10 AM. Kindly omit flowers.
