Ray Stein

The celebration of Ray Stein s life was held Saturday, March 25th at the Mt. Edgecumbe Auditorium at 6:30 PM. Interment was held Monday March 28th at Sitka Memorial Park with reception and memorial service. Ray Stein, 51, passed away Sunday, March 20th. He was born July 10, 1953 in Elkins, West Virginia, attended grade school in Charlestown, West Virginia, lived in Mountville, where he graduated from Hempfield H.S., Landisville, and earned an English teaching degree from Shippensburg University, joined the Peace Corps in Fiji and was requested to stay an additional two years as the "White Fijian." He then lived extensively in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China and Thailand. He earned a master's degree in Asian Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and studied Oriental culture at Yale University for 3 semesters where he received a full fellowship to Mongolia.
Raymond and Aporn U-Ngern marriage April 18, 1985 in Thailand, went to Sitka where he taught Pacific Rim cultures at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. He was a member of Methodist Church, Sitka Elks and Sitka Moose, Phi Delta Kappa and president of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
Ray's wife and his two sons, Richard, 17 and Robert, 15, survive him in Sitka. His parents are Ruth and Richard Stein of Wrightsville, PA; his three sisters and their husbands are Roxanne Stein Moss and Steve of Wellington, FL, Ronda Stein and Gerard Paradise of York, PA and Roberta Stein Glenn and Harry of Tampa, FL.
Ray took students to visit sister schools in Japan and China, was the student council's advisor and was assistant coach of the cross-country team for two years.
Ray played drums, guitar and vocals in a rock band and played on harmonica and guitar at the Bob Dylan Grind. He coached numerous Little League baseball teams, won photography awards, obtained his six-pack charter license, ran a bed and breakfast and spoke, read and wrote in six languages.
Friends of the family can contribute to the Ray Stein Japanese Language Scholarship Fund at Wells Fargo Bank in Sitka at 300 Lincoln St., Sitka, AK 99835.

Chauncey "RED" B. Griffiths Jr.
Chauncey "RED" B. Griffiths, Jr., 75 of Manchester died at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 7, 2005, at York Hospital.
His funeral services and burial will be private.
Mr. Griffiths was born January 17, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of Chauncey B. and Jean (Bauman) Griffiths.
He graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster County in 1949. He worked for Pennsylvania Power & Light for 38 years as a Foreman of Electrical Repairs before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the National Audobon Society; Lancaster County Bird Club; Moose, Chickies Rock Lodge #307; Hawk Gunning Club; Goldsboro Fireman's Club; Wago Club; Susquehanna V.F.W. Post 2493, Mt. Wolf, PA and the Democratic Club. He was named an All-star in Football and earned divisional gold medals in Track and Field. Also, he was a Silver Medalist in State Competition. He was a member of the Prices' Boys in Lancaster which he traveled from Maine to Mexico. He enjoyed taking drives along the river the beauty of Nature and Bird watching. He was a very generous man to his family and friends.
Mr. Griffiths is survived by two sons, Michael Griffiths and wife, Marilyn of York, PA and Scott Griffiths of Algonquin, IL; one daughter Cynthia Bailey and husband, Richard of York Haven, PA; four grandchildren, Christy Bailey, Valerie Bailey, Heather Griffiths and Kara Griffiths and one great grandson, Jared Hubbart. Mr. Griffiths was preceded in death by a brother, David Griffiths and a sister, Charlotte Perry.

Harold R. Diffenderffer

Harold R. Diffenderffer, 90, of 1017 Helen Ave., Lancaster, died Friday. He was the husband of Fianna Lutz Diffenderffer with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Harold F. and Florence Diffenderffer. He was a 1936 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. A veteran of the US Army during WW II. Mr. Diffenderffer retired from Educators Mutual Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the PA. Society of the Sons of the Revolution. He attended Grandview United Methodist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by a nephew, David Diffenderffer and a niece, Anne Orr. Also, he was predeceased by a brother Merle Diffenderffer.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 12th at 10:30 AM in the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA. Interment in St. Stephens UCC Cemetery, New Holland, PA. Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder F.H. on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until time of service. Contributions may be sent to Hospice of Lancaster County 685 Good Dr., P.O. H. Lee Brubaker
H. Lee Brubaker, 80, died on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at his home in Wilmington, DE following a long illness.
Born in Holtwood, he was the son of the late Herbert L. and Clara Campbell Brubaker. Growing up, Lee helped his parents in the family s general store in Holtwood and was very active in Bethesda United Methodist Church. Dr. Brubaker served in the 8th and 9th Air Forces during WWII. His professional life was a School Administrator, Psychologist in Private Practice and teacher of high school and college students. Dr. Brubaker held an earned Doctorate Degree from Temple University and was licensed as a Psychologist in Pennsylvania and Delaware. He held membership in the Delaware Psychological Association, Pennsylvania Psychological Association-Fellow and Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Psycho-Therapists and Psycho-Diagnosticians (ABMPP). He was a Diplomat to the American College of Professional Mental Health Practitioners (ACPMHP) and held the Certificate of Psychologist Qualification (CPQ).
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of 29 years and his two children, Herbert Lee Brubaker, III of North East, MD and Carol Dorlee Purcell of Wilmington, DE, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 1:00 from Bethesda United Methodist Church, 93 Holtwood Rd., Holtwood with Pastor Terry Mills officiating followed by military honors by Red Rose Honor Guard in the adjoining Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the church 1-hour prior the funeral. Ann L. Wright Yancy

Ann L. Wright Yancy, 60, of 2721 Old Orchard Road, Lancaster, passed away at Hospice of Lancaster County on April 8, 2005, following a brief illness. Born in Lititz, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Betty Enck Kofroth, and the wife of Ronald B. Yancy of Lancaster.
She graduated in 1962 from Warwick High School and in 1980 from St. Joseph School of Nursing. Ann was a President of the Wheatland Junior Woman s Club, and past member of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors and Lancaster County Association of Realtors.
She worked as a Laboratory Technician at Warner Lambert, as a Mortgage Loan Processor for Lomas & Nettleton Co. of Lancaster, in the E.R. and Intensive Care Unit as a registered nurse at St. Joseph s Hospital, at Planned Parenthood, and was employed for 19 years as a case manager for the Visiting Nurse Association up until the time of her illness.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald B. Yancy, Lancaster, in addition to her daughter, Kimberly Ann, wife of Michael Jones, of Cicero, NY; a son, Edward A., husband of Patricia M. Wright, Holtwood; two step-children, Rhonda S. Dreden and Eric L., husband of Kimberly Yancy, both of Fort Worth, TX and seven grandchildren, Chad, Collin, Remington, Alexander, Cassandra, Logan and Cameron.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. from the Richard H. Heisey Funeral Home, 216 South Broad Street, Lititz, PA with the Rev. Michael R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Millport Mennonite Cemetery. Viewing: Monday, April 11, 2005 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and Tuesday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Contributions may be made in her memory to Visiting Nurse Association, 1811 Olde Homestead Lane, Lancaster, PA 17605.

Dr. Ernest R. King

Dr. Ernest R. "Ernie" King D.C., 85, of Shillington, died Friday morning in Reading Hospital & Medical Center.
Born in Denver, he was a son of the late Harry S. and Cora E. (Burd) King.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristine L. King of Shillington; sisters, Grace M. Schmeck of Lancaster, Kathryn I. (Leroy K.) Weitzel of Denver, Helen K. (Ivan W.) Weitzel of Reinholds and Ruth K. Sweigart of Denver and brother, John C. King of Denver.
Ernie was a self-employed Chiroprator in the Reading area for 47 years. He was a member of Swamp Evang. Lutheran Church, Reinholds, a former Vice-President of the PA Accupuncture Assn., and former Vice-President of the PA Chiropractic Assn. He was Salutatorian of Denver High School, 1956, a graduate of La Salle Extension University with a degree in Higher Accounting, attended McCann's School of Business where he reviewed Accounting. Prior to graduating from Licoln Chiropractic College, Indianapolis, IN, 1956, Ernie was a Cost Analyst and Personnel Director with American Casualty Company. He was one of the first Chiropractic Physicians in the area to use accupuncture as a modality of treatment. A US Army Veteran of WW II, he was a member of V.F.W. Post #38 Reading, and the American Legion of Reading.
Viewing Monday 7-8:30PM in the Roseboro Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, Funeral Tuesday 11:00AM and viewing 10-11AM in Swamp Evang. Lutheran Church, 275 Swamp Church Rd., Reinholds with Rev. Dennis L. Trout officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery Annex, Denver with military honors accorded by the Red Rose Honor Guard.

Mae (Murray) Jones

Mae (Murray) Jones, 78, of Lancaster, died Thursday at Calvary Fellowship Homes. Born May 10, 1926, in Albany, New York, she was a daughter of the late James and Agnes (Horne) Murray. She was the wife of the late Hugh B. Jones, Jr.
In the late 1940's and '50's, Mae was the queen of New England golf, winning a record six victories in the Vermont Women's Championship and four victories in the New England Women's Championship.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her 2 sisters, Joyce Murray of Lancaster and Jean A. Currier of Southern Pines, North Carolina; her brother, James, husband of Jane Murray of Amherst, New Hampshire; 4 nephews, Andrew Currier, Dale, James and David Murray and 2 great nieces, Amanda Lou and Madison Mae Murray.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Calvary Fellowship Homes with Dr. Eric G. Crichton and the Rev. Walter S. Jackson officiating. Visitation will be one half hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. The Gundel Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
