Glenn E. Hurst

Glenn E. Hurst, 67, of 100 Delancy Place, Lancaster, went home to be with his Lord on June 6, 2006. His final days were spent at home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Reuben and Leah (Martin) Hurst. He was the owner of a Surge Dairy Farm Equipment dealership for 20 years before retiring. Most recently, he operated an Amish taxi service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was an active member of The Worship Center and was involved in prison ministry both in Lancaster and Alabama. He is survived by his wife, Arlene R. (Martin) Hurst whom he marriage on September 6, 1958; his children: Diane wife of Michael Vincent, Narvon; Janice Burkholder, Gap; Lori May, Landisville; a son-in-law, Jerri husband of Cindy (Weaver) Parmer, Blue Ball; 11 grandchildren; brothers Harold husband of Jane Hurst, New Holland; Mel husband of Ruth Hurst, Ephrata; and Leon husband of Rosella Hurst, Ephrata; and a sister, Janet wife of Glenn Horst, Denver. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Parmer and a stillborn daughter and a brother Earl Hurst. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 10 at 10 AM at The Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster with Pastor Sam Smucker, Pastor Amos Dienner, and Pastor Leon Hurst officiating. Interment will follow in Weaverland Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held at The Worship Center on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and Saturday from 9 to 10 AM. If desired, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Z. Shirk
2006-06-04
Linda Z. Shirk, 18 months, of 796 Gristmill Road, Ephrata, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 from an accidental drowning at her home. Born in Earl Twp., she was the daughter of J. Edwin and Marian (Zeiset) Shirk. Also surviving are five brothers, Lavern, Jonathan, Lamar, Jay Paul, and Marlin Shirk, all at home; a sister, Lois Ann Shirk at home; paternal grandparents, Edwin and Martha (Horning) Shirk of Ephrata; and maternal grandparents, Paul and Leah (Zimmerman) Zeiset of East Earl. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 1 pm at the late home with further services at 1:30 pm at the Martindale Old Order Mennonite Church with the Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment in adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the late home on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers. Arrangements by Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill.

Erika "Mima" Andrews
2006-06-04
Erika 'Mima' Andrews, 84, of 833 Fountain Avenue, Lancaster, Pa. went to be with her Dear Lord on June 4th, 2006 following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the home of her son where she resided for the last four weeks. She will be deeply missed. She was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster. Born in Essen, Germany, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie 'Opa' Andrews, by only 4 days. They were marriage for more than 42 years. Her parents were the late Johann and Luise Stebani and she had three sisters and twin brothers who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Dr. Wolfram, husband of Arlene (Stoltzfus) Andrews of New Holland; a daughter, Brigitte, wife of George Lovsey of McConnelsville, OH; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great granddaughters. Mima enjoyed sewing and tending to her flower garden. She would always have a kind word to say to whoever she met. A joint funeral service for both 'Mima' and 'Opa' will be held at the Christian Fellowship, 758 Spruce Rd., New Holland on Friday, June 9th at 10:00 AM. Friends may call on the family at 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in their loving memory to the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 South Prince Street, Lancaster, Pa 17603.

Margaret A. "Peg" Futer
2006-06-03
Margaret A. 'Peg' Futer, 73, of 430 Brimmer Ave, New Holland, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Goodville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence B. and Elizabeth (Lykens) Keenan. Her husband, Paul E. Futer, Jr., died Sept. 1, 1986. She worked for 30 years in data entry, retiring in 1991, from the former Ford New Holland plant, now CNH. She was a member at Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church, the Ephrata Cloister Chorus, and she enjoyed scrap booking and supporting her grandchildren’s activities. Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey L., marriage to Diane (Wiest) Futer of Hummelstown, James E., marriage to Cindy (Trout) Futer of New Holland, and Jerry A. Futer of Clive, IA; a daughter, Julie A. Futer of New Holland; six grandchildren; two brothers, Warren, marriage to Sue Keenan of Hurst, TX, and Clarence B., marriage to Darlene Keenan of Ogden, UT; and a sister, Gertrude Burkhart of Allentown. Preceding her in death are two sisters, Elsie Smith and Bertha Marks. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 7 at 10 am at the Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church, 5971 Division Hwy., Narvon with the Reverend Bruce Hill officiating. Interment in adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland and on Wednesday at the Church from 9-10 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 998 Pampton Ave., Cedar Grove, NJ 07009-9990.

Alonzo "Al" F. Whitley
2006-05-31
Alonzo F. 'Al' Whitley, Sr., 83, of 373 Boulder Hill Road, Narvon, died at his home on Wednesday, May 31, 2006. Born in Concord, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Leroy, Sr. and Bertha Mae (Long) Whitley. He celebrated his 64th wedding anniversary on May 23 to Elizabeth Pauline 'Polly' (Galyan) Whitley. He was retired in 1984 from Wyeth Labs in Great Valley, PA. He was a member of the Conshohocken Masonic Lodge and enjoyed woodworking. During WWII he served in the US Army, stationed in Germany. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Brenda, marriage to Richard Hauk of Conshohocken, Alonzo, Jr., marriage to Ruth (Wintz) Whitley of E. Norriton, and Elizabeth Diane, marriage to Roy Leaman of Narvon; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Elwood and Reese Whitley; and two sisters, Marie D’Orazio, and Louise Moyer. Preceding him in death are four brothers, Curtis, Henry, Howard and Charles Whitley Jr.; and a sister, Gertrude Doty. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 2 pm at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA with the Reverend Jonathan Yoder officiating. Interment in Bowmansville Union Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Saturday from 1-2 pm at the Funeral Home. Johnnie "Opa" Andrews

Johnnie 'Opa' Andrews, 94, of 833 Fountain Ave., Lancaster went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2006 after a very brief illness. He was born in McComb, Mississippi and was the son of Howard Andrews and Lorraine Cates. In His early years, he enjoyed working as a barber before signing up for military service. He served in the United States Army for 20 years, mostly in Germany. After military retirement in 1969, he worked for Ohio State University in their food facility for 10 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Erika 'Mima' Andrews, a son, Dr. Wolfram Andrews, husband of Arlene (Stoltzfus), New Holland; a daughter, Brigitte Lovsey, wife of George, McConnelsville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, and four great granddaughters. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service to be held at Christian Fellowship, 758 Spruce Road, New Holland on Friday, June 9 at 10 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 9 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be at 2 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Martha S. Eberly

Martha S. Eberly, 74, of 239 Kurtz Road, Ephrata, died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Ephrata Community Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Emma (Wanner) Stauffer. Her husband, Allen B. Eberly, died in 1993. She was a homemaker and a member of the Lititz Dunkard Brethren Church. She was also a foster mother for many years. Surviving are three sons, James D., marriage to Frances (Cease) Eberly, Ricky L., marriage to Alma (Martin) Eberly both of Terre Hill, and Roy A., marriage to Sandra (Smootz) Eberly of New Holland; three daughters, Darla J., Eberly of East Earl, Lori M., marriage to Michael Mowen of Ephrata, and Krista D. Eberly at home; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Rauser of Ephrata; and a brother, Edwin Stauffer of Manheim. Preceding her in death is a sister, Anna Keller; and a brother, Abram Stauffer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 10 am at the Lititz Dunkard Brethren Church, Clay Road off of Newport Road, Lititz, with the Reverend Ray Stuber and the Reverend Keith Snyder officiating. Interment in Hess Mennonite Cemetery. Viewing will be at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, on Friday from 6-9 pm and on Saturday at the Church from 9-10 am. Kindly omit flowers.
