EARL S. DIEM, 82, of 384 Shirktown Road, Narvon, PA, died Wednesday at his home after a lengthy illness while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Mr. Diem worked for 20 years at Mrs. Smith's Pie Company in Morgantown retiring in 1983. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corp. and he was a member of the Morgantown American Legion Colonel Jacob Morgan Post #537. Born in White Horse, Pa., he was the son of the late Marcus and Suzanna Berkey Diem. Surviving is a son, James, marriage to Sharon Means Diem of Narvon; and a daughter Shirley Holson of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; two brothers, James M., marriage to Florence Combs Diem of Honey Brook, and John L. "Jack", marriage to Betty C. Witmer Diem of Gordonville; a sister, Dorothy A., marriage to Lloyd L. Kieffer of Honey Brook; and two step brothers, Marcus J., marriage to Linda S. Johnson Diem of Lancaster, and Paul R. Diem of Narvon. Preceding him in death are two grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Fyetta E. Styer who died 2/14/2004. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service from the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA, on Monday, May 17 at 10 AM with the Reverend Fred Heller officiating. Interment will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery. Alberta E. Gehman, 83, of Welsh Mountain Home, New Holland, formerly of Main St., Terre Hill, died Monday morning, May 17, 2004, at Ephrata Community Hospital following a brief illness. Her husband, Clayton M. Gehman, died in 1997. Born in Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Frances S. Wenger Shirk. A homemaker, she had previously been a short order cook at the former Blue Shutter Restaurant in New Holland. Mrs. Gehman was a member of Bethany Grace Fellowship, East Earl. She was a lifetime member of Terre Hill Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and a member of Hillside Senior Citizens. She is survived by three sons: Sylvan, Sr., marriage to Shirley Ann (Wise) Gehman of Ephrata, Elvin L., marriage to Mischele Ann (Frantz) Gehman of Stevens, and Larry L., marriage to Tami L. (Slichter) Gehman of Mohnton; six daughters: Velma M., marriage to Daniel B. Wert of Terre Hill, Eileen, marriage to Richard K. Steffy of Ephrata, Caroline F. Messner of Terre Hill, Jewel A., marriage to Ralph Stauffer, of East Earl, Karen J. Auker of Bowmansville, and Rowena K., marriage to Keith Hyndman of East Earl; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers: Charles and Willis Shirk, both of Terre Hill, and Carroll Shirk of New Holland; five sisters, Dorothy, marriage to Andrew Martin of Reinholds, A. Pearl Martin of Denver, LaRita, marriage to Frank Sandoe of East Earl, Miriam, marriage to Larry Brendle of Denver, PA, and Beulah Shirk of Terre Hill. She was preceded in death by two sons, Wilmer J. and Lamar Gehman, a daughter Rose Marie Wolfe, one grandson, a brother Luke Shirk and a sister Helen Good. Isaac G. Good, 87, of 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, formerly of Bowmansville, died Friday night at Landis Homes following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor H. (Burkhart) Good. They observed their 64th anniversary on November 5. Born in Brecknock Twp., Lancaster County, he was the son of the late Barton and Lizzie (Giegley) Good. Mr. Good worked for 25 years at the former Berkshire Knitting Mill as a knitter and then worked for the former Victor F. Weaver, Inc. as a supervisor for 25 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member Bowmansville Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a trustee. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, spending time at the family cabin in Perry County, and beekeeping. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jeanette marriage to Jim Oberholtzer, Manheim; three sons: Mervin marriage to Sonia Good, Wernersville; Warren marriage to Deborah Good, Denver; and Isaac Ray marriage to Carolyn Good, Ocean View, DE; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a sister Ruth Burkhart, Ephrata. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Edna Good, Lizzie Fox, and Ella Weaver and two brothers: Amos Good and Edwin Good. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service on Sunday, June 6, 2004 at 2:30 PM at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church, 129 Pleasant Valley Rd., East Earl, PA with Rev. Chester E. Yoder and Rev. Donald W. Good officiating. Private interment at the convenience of the family in the adjoining church Cemetery. Rose T. Hansen, 93, of 1064 Edwards Rd., Narvon, PA died Friday morning at Fairmount Homes where she had resided for the past year. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eric H. Hansen on February 1, 2003. Born in Reutlingen, West Germany, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Elizabeth (Kolbl) Layer. Mrs. Hansen enjoyed sewing and was a seamstress in Philadelphia. Surviving are two daughters: Rosalie marriage to Ralph Carlson, Los Angeles, CA and Erika marriage to John Kulick, Narvon; a son, Eric F. marriage to Tammy (Horning) Hansen, Narvon; five grandchildren and a great grandson. LEONA M. HORST, 84, of 996 Dry Tavern Road, Fivepointville, died Saturday evening May 22, 2004, after a lengthy illness at her home while under the care of Hospice, Skilled Nursing & Rehab Association of Wyomissing. Mrs. Horst, along with her husband, owned and operated Jake & Leonas Restaurant at Green Dragon in Ephrata from 1955 until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Calvary Church in Lancaster where she taught Sunday School class. She enjoyed quilting, bicycling, and camping. Born in Belleville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Urie K. and Nancy Yoder Peachey. She was marriage 62 years on January 24 to Jacob Z. Horst. Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Larry J., marriage to Barbara Wingenroth Horst and Leon D., marriage to Linda K. Fassnacht Horst both of Stevens; and a daughter, Nancy A., marriage to Randy Burkholder of Denver; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Ruth, marriage to Denton Snader, Clara, marriage to Donald Hackman, and Tressie Martin all of Ephrata; and four brothers, Warren Peachey of Akron, Marle Peachey, marriage to Mary Schreck, Kenneth, marriage to Mary Hostetter Peachey both of Ephrata, and Chester Peachey of Reamstown. Preceding here in death is a sister, Minnie Burkholder. ROBERT C. KLUENDER, 67, of Blue Ball, PA, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, May 18, 2004 at his home of natural causes. Mr. Kluender served in the US Army entering active service in 1955. He retired in 1981 as a master sergeant. During his service in the Vietnam conflict he earned a bronze star medal and also a cross of gallantry with palm. He was a member of the New Holland and Ephrata VFW. Born in Baraboo, WI, he was the son of the late Carl O. and Selma Steinweg Kluender. His wife, Maria Anna Bikneris Kluender, died in 1977. There are no survivors. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, May 24, at 10 AM from the Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Lock Road, Lancaster with the Reverend Donald Lindman officiating. Galen W. Martin, 47, of 1312 Black Sheep Circle, East Earl, PA, died Thursday evening at home after a lengthy illness. He was under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. He and his wife Vicky L. (Worden) Martin had celebrated 25 years of marriage on October 14. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Elvin and Martha (Weaver) Martin of Lititz, PA. Mr. Martin had trained 3 ½ years with New Tribes Missions and then served with his wife as missionaries and church planters with New Tribes Missions in the Philippines from 1980 until his illness. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of Lancaster County, New Holland. Mr. Martin worked as a carpenter while on furloughs. He was also a ham radio operator, a radio technician in the Philippines, and enjoyed bow hunting and playing tennis. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are a daughter, Maria Lin Martin, and two sons, Shane Gale Martin and Chris James Martin, all at home. Also surviving are four sisters, Marian Martin of Lititz, Lois, marriage to Ben Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, Elaine, marriage to Jay Horst of Scipio Center, NY, and Janice, marriage to Eugene Burkholder of Richfield, PA, and two brothers, Merle, marriage to Erla (Martin) Martin of Lititz, and Kevin, marriage to Eva Jane (Zimmerman) Martin of Ephrata. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from the Christian Fellowship Church of Lancaster County, 758 Spruce Road, New Holland, on Wednesday at 3:30 PM with Pastor Aaron Webb and Pastor Leon Shirk officiating.
