ELAM Z. MARTIN JR., 13, of 181 Martin Road, New Holland, died Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the neighbors home after a lengthy illness. Born in Earl Twp., he was the son of Elam Z. and Mabel Sensenig Martin of New Holland. He attended the Weaverland Mennonite Church of the Groffdale Conference. Surviving in addition to his parents are four brothers, Ervin S., marriage to Vera Z. Nolt Martin of Ionia, IA, Edwin S., marriage to Eunice Z. Sauder Martin of Ionia, IA, Lester S. Martin and Landis S. Martin both at home; two sisters, Grace Ann Martin and Irene S. Martin both at home; maternal grandparents, Moses W. and Anna Martin Sensenig of East Earl; and Paternal grandparents, David K. and Lena N. Zimmerman Martin of New Holland. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at the late home on Monday, May 24 at 9 AM with further services at Weaverland Mennonite Church at 9:30 AM with Bishop Ben F. Martin officiating. Interment will be in adjoining Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the late home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Kindly omit flowers. Reiff, Anna N.

Anna N. Reiff, 81, of 219 Cats Back Rd., Ephrata, formerly of 783 Spruce Rd., New Holland, died Thursday evening at Fairmount Homes following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel G. Reiff in 1971. Born in Salisbury Twp., she was the daughter of the late Mahlon and Lena (Nolt) Weaver. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pequea Mennonite Church. Surviving are six sons: Samuel W. marriage to Elva (Huber) Reiff, New Holland; Lloyd W. marriage to Laura (Redcay) Reiff, Strasburg; Eugene W. marriage to Linda (Martin) Reiff, Ephrata; Kenneth W. marriage to Mabel (Weaver) Reiff, Denver; David L. marriage to Tamra (Houck) Reiff, Reinholds; and John W. marriage to Sarah (Johnson) Reiff, Mt. Joy; four daughters: Lena marriage to Leonard High, Denver; Emma J. marriage to Melvin Weaver, Ickesburg; Arlene marriage to Warren Fox, Martindale; and Martha Jane marriage to Rutherford Cline, New Holland. Also 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a brother: Enos Weaver, New Holland; two sisters: Elizabeth marriage to Lester Martin and Martha Martin, both of Ephrata. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Emma Martin and Mary Weaver and three brothers: Michael N. Weaver, Franklin Weaver, and Henry Weaver. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, 219 Cats Back Rd., Ephrata on Monday at 1:30 PM with further services at 2:15 PM at the Pequea Mennonite Church with Bishop Jeremiah O. Sensenig, Paul Newswanger, Curvin Zimmerman, and Lloyd Burkholder officiating. Interment in the adjoining church Cemetery. Simes, Sandy L.

Sandy L. Simes, 58, of 6003 Wertztown Rd., Narvon, PA died Thursday morning at Lancashire Hall following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband, Rev. James J. Simes. They had observed their 31st anniversary on Nov. 11. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Boley) Sager. A homemaker, she was also active in her church, Full Gospel Assembly in Sadsburyville where she taught a Bible study group and adult Sunday School class. She also enjoyed reaching out to needy children she came into contact with. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters: Paula Wertz, New Holland; Jo marriage to Daniel Balmer, East Earl; and Brenda Sager, at home; and a brother, Robert Sager, Ephrata. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Monday at 10 AM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, with Rev. Dr. Anna Mae Strauser and Rev. Simeon Strauser officiating. Interment in Bridgeville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 6 to 8 PM.

Stoltzfus, Christian L. "Chris"

CHRISTIAN L. "CHRIS" STOLTZFUS, 84, of 82 Brick Lane, Elverson, died Saturday of natural causes at Fairmont Homes, Ephrata. Chris was a farmer, retiring in 1974, a mechanic, and church worker. He was a member of Hopewell Christian Fellowship, Elverson. He enjoyed traveling, music, reading, and fixing things. His retirement job/hobby was rebuilding Volvo autos in his shop on the home farm in Elverson. Born in Morgantown, he was the son of the late Stephen R. and Lydia Petersheim Stoltzfus. He was marriage 62 years on Nov. 20 to Sarah Z. Stoltzfus Stoltzfus formerly of Supplee. He was a board member of Conestoga Christian School and also Lancaster Mennonite School. He was always active in his church. He was originally a member of the Old Order Amish church and later the Rock Mennonite Church, Elverson. He was a charter member of Hopewell Mennonite Church, now Hopewell Christian Fellowship, Elverson. His friends and family have always known Chris for his kindness, generosity and integrity. Surviving in addition to his wife are nine children; a son, Monroe Z., marriage to Jane Schopf Stoltzfus of Akron; a son, John W., marriage to Edwina Gibson Stoltzfus of Narvon; a daughter, Martha, marriage to James R. Thomas of New Danville; a daughter, Annie B., marriage to David Donaldson of Montney; British Columbia, a daughter, Lydia Mae, marriage to Jacob L. Stoltzfus of Gordonville, a son Carl, marriage to Hilda King Stoltzfus of Elverson; a son Stephen R., marriage to Lori High Stoltzfus of Lancaster; a daughter, Grace S., marriage to Eric P. Miller of Mount Joy; and a son Calvin D., marriage to Beverly Adams Stoltzfus of Elverson; 29 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lydia, marriage to Amos Z. Stoltzfus of Kennedyville, MD, and Naomi, marriage to John Z. Stoltzfus of Kennedyville, MD; and two brothers, Stephen S. Stoltzfus of Morgantown, and Jonas L., marriage to Sadie Smoker Stoltzfus of Elverson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Mitchell Thomas; and three brothers Uri, John and Ammon Stoltzfus; and two sisters, Barbara Stoltzfus Glick, and Rebecca Stoltzfus Fisher. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at Hopewell Christian Fellowship, 2286 Hopewell Road, Elverson, PA, on Wednesday, May 12 at 10 AM with the Reverend Mark B. Kraybill officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Fairmount Homes, 219 Cats Back Road, Ephrata, on Tuesday from 10 AM until 12 Noon and also at Hopewell Christian Fellowship on Tuesday from 6-9PM and on Wednesday from 8:30 AM until the time of the service. Weaver, Evelyn V.

Evelyn V. Weaver, 84, of 272 Edgewood Dr., New Holland died Thursday morning at Fairmount Homes of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Weaver in 1994. Born in Groffdale, she was the daughter of the late Florence (Huyard) and Ivan Stone, Sr. A homemaker, she was a member of Pilgrim Bible Church, New Holland. She was the church secretary and a Sunday School teacher at the former Mt. Tabor E. U. B. Church. She was also a gardener and birdwatcher. Surviving are five sons: George M. Jr. marriage to Anne W. (Webster) Weaver of Etters; Donald G. marriage to Hazel R. (Good) Weaver, Gail S. marriage to Joyce M. (Riker) Weaver; Theodore D. marriage to Grace A. (Beatty) Weaver; and Ralph G. marriage to Joan Y. (Witmer) Weaver, all of New Holland; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also eight sisters: Marian Miller, New Holland; Kathryn marriage to Alvin Fry, Stevens; Mary marriage to Charles Byers, Sr., New Holland; Mabel Weaver, Lititz; Charlotte Reeser, New Holland; Janet marriage to Leonard Stover, Quarryville; Hazel Spence, Rheems; and Constance marriage to Carl Adams, Blue Ball; two brothers: Ivan Jr. marriage to Grace Stone and Kenneth Stone, both of New Holland. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, 219 Cats Back Rd. on Monday at 10:30 AM with Jay S. Fulmer officiating. Wert, Boyd M.

Boyd M. Wert, 92, of 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, formerly of Smoketown, died Thursday morning at Landis Homes following a brief illness. His wife, Martha R. (Groff) Wert, died in 1997. Born in Juniata County, Penna., he was the son of the late Henry W. and Katie B. (Musser) Wert. Mr. Wert was employed as a supervisor at the former Victor F. Weaver, Inc., New Holland. He later was a Raleigh Products salesman and last worked at Ebersole Chair Shop, Intercourse, from 1975 until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church where he had served as a deacon from 1970-80, and also as a Sunday School teacher. He loved children and his grandchildren. He had received the New Era Red Rose from Lancaster Newspapers for reading to children at the Hildebrandt Child Care Center. He also enjoyed woodworking and outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting. Surviving are a son, Dr. Nelson E., marriage to Susan (Stauffer) Wert, of Townsend, Montana; and a daughter, L. Ann, marriage to Dr. Donald M. Shellenberger of Lancaster, PA; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lydia M. Kauffman, Anna M. Zendt, and Mary E. Wert; and six brothers, Michael W., John L., Paul M., Henry R., Jacob M. and Earl M. Wert. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral Service on Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA, with the Pastors Jim Leaman, Charles Wert and Chaplain Donald Good officiating. Friends may call at Landis Homes on Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of service. Willis M. Houck
2006-07-18
Willis M. Houck, 85, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Garden Spot Village, after a brief illness. Born in Paradise, the son of the late Christian W. and Annie (Metzler) Houck. He celebrated his 64th wedding anniversary on Aug. 30 to Verna E. (Herr) Houck. Mr. Houck graduated from Paradise High School in 1937 and worked 42 years for the New Holland Machine Co., now CNH, as an apprentice, machinist, tool maker, and retiring as a tool design supervisor. After his retirement he worked from 1984-1996 for A.B.C. Groff in New Holland, for Glick Industries in Goodville from 1996-1998, and also for C. Everwine Machine Services in New Holland from 1998-2000. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, where he served as president of the Trustee Board from 1978-1991, sang in the choir for 57 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher. He was also a member of the Greater Lancaster Chapter #89 Society of Manufacturing Engineers, serving as chair in 1956, New Holland Kiwanis Club where he served as past president and was currently serving as treasurer, V.F.W. Post 7362 in New Holland, American Legion Post #662 in New Holland, Ephrata Community Hospital where he served on the board, New Holland Community Memorial Park board from 1981-1987, Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs serving as president in 1973, Mayor of New Holland from 1956-1977, Association of Mayors of the Boroughs of Pennsylvania serving as president in 1970, and the New Holland Summer Arts program serving as board member. His hobbies include aviation, photography, swimming, and music. He served his country during W.W. II in the U.S. Army 9th infantry. He was wounded in action in Germany in 1945, crossing the Remagen Bridge, and received a purple heart. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Marlin, marriage to Barbara (Heistand) Houck of New Holland; a daughter, Eileen H., marriage to Richard L. Bowen of Crawfordsville, IN; four grandchildren, Carolyn Foster, Jeffrey Houck, Kent Stine, and Joel Stine; and four great grandchildren, Eric Foster, Stephen Foster, Jared Houck, and Emma Houck. Preceded in death are five sisters, Myrtle McGinnis, Mary Usner, Anna Eby, Ursula Bucher, and Esther Herr; and three brothers, Landis, Omar, and Melvin Houck. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22 at 10:30 am at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 276 W. Main St, New Holland with the Reverend Eric Ritz officiating. Interment in adjoining Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday, July 21 at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave, New Holland from 6-8 pm and on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 – 10:30 am. If desired memorials may be sent to Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
