John H. Hartman, 75, of 302 Linden St., Terre Hill, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. Born in Dover, NJ, he was the son of the late John H. and Luella (Eckenroth) Hartman. He celebrated his 14th wedding anniversary on Aug. 11 to Helen L. (Renninger) Hartman. His first wife, Annabelle (Foltz) Hartman, died April 9, 1978. John worked his whole life for Hartman Auto Sales in Terre Hill retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Terre Hill, and was formerly involved with the Terre Hill Citizens Committee, the Terre Hill Borough Council, and as a coach for the Terre Hill Little League. He enjoyed most sports especially baseball and fishing. Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Cathy, marriage to Larry Minnick of Terre Hill, Ann, marriage to Craig Beamesderfer of Akron, and Jackie, marriage to Darryl Jacobs of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 18 at 10 am at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill with the Reverend Nevin Andes officiating. Interment will be in the Terre Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 9-10 am. Rajaram G. Malankar, 87, of 185 Hill Road, New Holland, died unexpectedly, Aug. 1, 2006. He is the husband of Rajni Kandalgaonkar Malankar of India. Born in Vengurla, India, he was the son of the late Ganesh and Krishnabai Malankar. He worked as a goldsmith in India. Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Vilas R., marriage to Kamini Malankar of New Holland; a daughter, Kundan, marriage to Jagdish Khedekar of Mumbai, India; three grandchildren, Aalok Malankar, Amol Malankar, and Viraj Khedekar; and three brothers and a sister. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 3:30 pm at the Evans Eagle Crematory, 15 Graybill Road, Leola. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
Maxine S. Gehman

Maxine S. Gehman, 66, of 812 Walnut St., New Holland, died Thursday, August 3, 2006 at her home following a one-year illness. She is survived by her husband, Larry E. Gehman, to whom she was marriage for 49 years on June 16. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Warren D. and Susanna (Davidson) Hauck. She was an assembler at Automatic Timing Controls, retiring in 2001. She enjoyed craft shows, traveling and flower gardens. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons: Jeffrey S. marriage to Michelle (Bonawitz) Gehman, Lancaster; G. Michael marriage to Linda (Alexander) Gehman, Denver; and William J. C. marriage to Wendy (Summers) Gehman, Ephrata; seven grandchildren: Shannon, Nicole Weaver, Samantha, Shane, Cortney, Erica, and Devon; a great-grandson, Cole Boyer; and two brothers, Lee marriage to Shirley Hauck and James Hauck, all of Ephrata. Her memorial service will be held on Monday August 7, 2006 at 11 AM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland with the Rev. John Winterstein officiating. Interment will follow in Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 to 11 AM.
William E. "Willie" Miller

William E. 'Willie' Miller, 20, of 105 S. Railroad Ave., New Holland died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 6, 2006 as a result of a vehicle accident. Born in West Chester, he was the son of Sandra 'Sandi' (Abbott) Miller, with whom he resided, and William F. 'Fred' Miller of Coatesville. Willy was a 2005 graduate of Garden Spot High School and was employed by Morgan Corp. in Ephrata as a painter. He was baptized in the Marshallton United Methodist Church in West Chester and enjoyed sports, especially soccer, basketball, and baseball, and being with his friends. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister Heather Esbenshade, New Holland; a niece, Alyssa Esbenshade; paternal grandparents Brenda and Keith McFarland, West Chester; paternal great-grandmother Mary Hickman, Downingtown; and his step-father Ronald Bowman, at home; and a maternal great-aunt, Phyllis Brown. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Frank and Alberta Abbott. His funeral will be held on Friday, August 11, 2006 at 10 AM at Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Rd., New Holland with Pastor David Horst officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, New Holland. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 PM and on Friday from 9 to 10 AM. Kenneth Hornberger

Kenneth Hornberger, 66, of 15 died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Maple Farm Nursing Center, Akron, after a brief illness. Born in Leacock Twp., he was the son of the late Clayton and Ethel (Mellinger) Hornberger. Kenneth was a forklift operator for CNH in New Holland for more than 30 years. He served his country in the US Army during peacetime. Surviving are two sons, James A., marriage to Carri (Krueger) Hornberger of Mayer, AZ, and Kevin M. Hornberger of Goodville; four grandchildren, Zebulon, Jasper, Cyrus, and Mya; two brothers, Carl H. Hornberger of Ephrata, and Richard, marriage to Joan (Allison) Hornberger of Elverson; and two sisters, Pauline Weidman of East Earl, and Betty, marriage to Donald Kachel of New Holland. Preceding him in death is a sister, Evelyn Ebersole. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.

Ruth O. Fritz, 87, of 675 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA, formerly of Media, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at The Glen at Willow Valley after a brief illness. Born in Akron, OH, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie May (Roberts) Oberlin. Her husband, F. Herman Fritz, died in Oct. 1989. She graduated from Akron University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Cleveland Elementary Schools and later taught for 30 years at the Media Elementary School where she retired. She was a member of the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church; was active in crafts making pottery and decorative things; enjoyed golfing, gardening, Scott Foundation arboretum, reading, traveling, and playing bridge. Surviving are two sons, David L., marriage to Patricia (Callaham) Fritz of Walkersville, MD, and Robert C., Fritz, marriage to Gioia Della Rosa of New York, NY; and six grandchildren, Catherine, Alison, Emily, AeJee, Kerri, and Jessie Fritz. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 25, at 11 AM at the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, 727 Harvard Avenue, Swarthmore, PA 19081. Interment will be in the Church Memorial Garden. Evelyn Huyett, 74, of 1394 Hammon Ave., Ephrata, died Wednesday morning, August 9, 2006 at Hospice of Lancaster County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey S. Huyett on July 4, 2002. Born in New Holland, she was the daughter of the late Corvin and Florence (Keath) Witmer. Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Akron United Zion Church where she was involved with various children’s ministries. She enjoyed NASCAR racing and had the gift of freely giving hugs to those she knew. Surviving are three children: Evelyn marriage to Henry H. Martin, Ephrata; Harvey S., Jr. marriage to Jenny (Kerschner) Huyett, Quarryville; and Teresa marriage to William Lutz, New Holland; five grandchildren; a brother Corvin Witmer, Lancaster; and five sisters: Elta McCamant, Lancaster; Florence Gabel, Lititz; Verna Witmer, Neffsville; June Summers, Lampeter; and Nancy Frantz, Leola. Her funeral will be held on Monday, August 14, 2006 at 10 AM at the Akron United Zion Church, 31 S. 10th St., Akron with Rev. Kenneth Redcay and Rev. Clyde Martin officiating. Interment will follow in the Pequea E. C. Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 6 – 8 PM at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W.
