Lawrence J. 'Sonny' Shoemaker, Sr. 66, of 226 Pilottown Road, Peach Bottom, Pa., died on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Manor Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lancaster, Pa. He was the husband of Gladys Joyce Singleton Shoemaker, and they had celebrated 42 years of marriage. Lawrence was a self employed dairy farmer, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed small game hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was born in East Drumore Twp., son of the late Evan and Francis Rhoads Shoemaker. In addition to his wife Joyce, he is survived by 2 daughters; Kimberly A. Shoemaker, of Pequea, Pa, and Susan L. marriage to Ronald E. Snyder of Greencastle, PA, one son; Larry J. Jr., marriage to Jessica Shoemaker of Quarryville, and a grandson; Melvin E. Snyder. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers; Leander R., Benjamin E., and Donald L. Shoemaker, and 2 sisters; Doris A. Shoemaker, and Viola M. Blough. The Funeral Service will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Penn Hill Friends Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
Vance B. Snyder
Vance B. Snyder, 82, of 211 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, Pa, formerly of Quarryville, Pa died on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Arbor View at Willow Valley. He was the husband of Alice E. Ankrum Snyder. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage. Vance was a professor of industrial arts. He had attended Camp Hill High School, graduated with a B.S. from Millersville State Teachers College, received a M.S. from University of Maryland, and his doctoral degree from New York University. He had taught for the Chambersburg Area School District from 1947-1956, and Kean College of New Jersey from 1956-1983.
Vance had served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS Todd in the Pacific during WWII. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, wood working, bowling and traveling. He had been a life member of the International Technology Education Association, life member of the American Vocational Association, 60 year member of the West Shore Lodge # 681, F & A.M., A.A.S.C. Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Harrisburg, Millersville Alumni Association, and the Quarryville Lions Club. He was also a member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, Quarryville.
Vance was born in Harrisburg, PA, son of the late Roy and Sylvania Beidel Snyder. In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by; daughter Peg marriage to Rich Wurst of Hamilton Square, NJ, son Ken marriage to Marjorie Snyder of Solon, OH, son Scott marriage to Dee Snyder of Lindenwold, NJ, daughter Marty marriage to Rev. Joe Lennon of Manchester, GA, daughter Kate marriage to Glen Langevin of Mendham, NJ, daughter Judi marriage to Paul Smith of Quarryville, Pa, 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his sister Doris J. Hookway of Mechanicsburg, Pa.
The Funeral Service will be held at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, Pa, on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Michael Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Chestnut Level Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 AM. Zelva E. Souders
Zelva E. Souders, 87, of 500 Snyder Hollow Road, New Providence, PA., died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Zelva was the wife of the late J. Robert Souders who died in 2000. She had retired from the former Alfonse Knoedler Umbrella Co. of Lancaster where she had worked in sales. Zelva was born in Lancaster County, daughter of the late Lewis and Mary Keen Aukamp. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed going on cruises, spending time at her summer home in Ocean City, Maryland, and her dog, Chi Chi. She is survived by 2 sons; James Souders of New Providence, Donald Souders of Mt. Nebo, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and a sister Mardella, marriage to Roy Phenegar of New Providence. She was predeceased by a daughter Peggy Armstrong. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA., with Pastor Stuart Osborne officiating. Burial will be in the Clearfield United Methodist Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Bernice L. Kreider
Bernice L. Kreider, 64, of 333 West State Street died Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. She was the wife of Donald M. Kreider, and they had celebrated 43 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Nancy Fellenbaum St. Clair, of Lampeter, and the late Kenneth W. Rinier. Bernice had worked as a baker for the former Rhoads Resturant in Quarryville, was then formerly employed by Walker Oil Company for 17 years as a station auditor. She had also worked in the kitchen at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club. Mrs. Kreider had coached midget football cheerleading and enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and watching movies.
Surviving beside her husband and mother are 3 sons, Jeffrey marriage to Michele Douglas Haupt of Quarryville, D. Michael marriage to Dawn DeLong Kreider of Kirkwood, Kenneth marriage to Jeannine McCarraher Kreider of Quarryville; a daughter, Barbara marriage to Jack Hess of Peach Bottom; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Brenda L. marriage to Charles Grumbling of Drumore. Funeral services will be held from Wesley United Methodist Church, 7 Wesley Road, Quarryville on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. Interment in the Quarryville Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 12:30-2:00 P.M. Brandon Klein
Brandon W. Klein, age 22, of 749 Deaver Road, Quarryville died an accidental death on Monday, May 5th in Eden Township. Brandon had recently been employed as a roofer for Shea Roofing. An avid lover of music, he was a licensed DJ and enjoyed writing song lyrics. He also enjoyed basketball, the outdoors, was a talented artist, especially drawing. He was a willing help mate to any friend or family and enjoyed spending time with his son and family. Brandon attended the Lord’s House of Prayer, Quarryville. He is survived by his mother, Laurie F. Hodson Klein of Quarryville; his father and step-mother John W. and M. Elizabeth Klein of Lancaster; his son Damian W. Klein of Quarryville; a brother Ryan W. Klein of Quarryville; a sister Kasey wife of Chris Warfel of Quarryville; a maternal grandmother Caroline E. Hodson of Lancaster; a paternal grandmother Shirley Eckman of Peach Bottom; three nieces and a nephew; and his many friends. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, Paul W. Hodson and Fred Klein. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 10:00AM from the Lord’s House of Prayer, 300 Hideaway Drive, Quarryville, PA with Pastor Stuart Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Kindly omit flowers. Matthew Charles Weissberg
Matthew Charles Weissberg, age 23, went to be with Jesus on May 5, 2008. He was the son of Dr. Charles E. and Lorraine Weissberg of Quarryville, PA. Matthew is survived by his sister Megan marriage to David Price; a grandmother Charlotte King; and a grandfather Charles E. Weissberg, Sr. Matthew continues to be alive on earth by being a participant in the organ donor program. A memorial and praise service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2:00PM, at the Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA.
