Edward J. "Ted" Schaller, Jr., 84, of 229 Hazel Street, Lancaster, PA died Wednesday at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Ruth Schaller.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine Hebble Schaller. He was a lifetime Lancaster resident and a graduate of the Lancaster Catholic High School.
Ted was a Lancaster City Fireman from 1943-1968 and also worked in the Lancaster City Personnel Department from 1969-1974.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #34, Lancaster County Firemans Assoc., where he served as secretary from 1960-68, Director of the Lancaster County Fire Training School, PA State Firemans Assoc. for 47 years, serving as the assistant Secretary of the PA State Firemans Assoc., President of the PA State Legislature Firemans Federation from 1972-74 and President of the Keystone State of Fire Chiefs Association. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald H. (Bonnie) Huth of S. Hamilton, MA and Roger E. (Lynne) Schaller of Dixon, CA; two daughters, Tere (Jim) Rill of Millheim, PA and Eileen (Phillip) Wilson of Dixon, CA; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Marie (Kenneth) Spiess of Claymont, DE. He was preceded in death by a sister, C. Jane Chillas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ted s Life Celebration from the Funeral Home of Fred F. Groff, 234 W. Orange St., Lancaster on Monday at 1pm with the Rev. Jim Rill and Rev. Ronn Huth officiating. Viewing will be held at Groffs on Monday from 11am until time of service. Burial at Conestoga Memorial Park with Military Honors rendered by the Red Rose Honor Guard.
