Edward W. Hart, formerly of Ithaca and Schenectady, NY, died in Lancaster, PA, on December 22, 2004.
He was born in Easton, PA, in 1918, son of the late Abraham Hart and Sarah Rosenstrauch. He was a graduate of Townsend Harris Hall in New York City, The City College of New York and the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. Hart had been a theoretical and experimental physicist and Professor at Cornell University in Mechanics and Materials Science. Prior to his appointment at Cornell, he was on the research staff at the General Electric Research Laboratory in Schenectady, NY, for 25 years. During World War II, he received a Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the U.S. Navy for inventing a new type of compass.
He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society, served as the Batelle Visiting Professor for Distinguished Service at Ohio State University in 1973 and was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Award by West Germany in 1982. In 1989, he served at the Nuclear Research Center in Karlsruhe, Germany, as Visiting Scientist. His biographical sketch appears in Who s Who in America.
Edward Hart had an avid interest in the arts. As a young man, he studied composition under composer Aaron Copland. He played guitar, viola, and piano and directed a choir and chorus. He studied modern dance with Welland Lathrop as a young man and was a founder and President of the Schenectady Civic Ballet Co. from 1960-63. A long-time member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, he loved nature, mountain climbing and camping. Flori L. Hart, his first wife, predeceased him in 1976. He is survived by his second wife, Joanne, of Willow Street, PA; daughters Enid Hart Boasberg of Concord, MA, and Dr. Lucinda Hart-González of Washington, DC; step-children Dr. Stephen Grubb of Ellicott City, MD, Robin Paulus of Goshen, NY, and Brian Grubb of North Salem, NY; a sister, Virginia Schechet of Greenacres, FL; and seven grandchildren.
The memorial service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Lancaster County.
Mae E. Kauffman

Mae E. Kauffman, 88, of Fairmount Homes of Ephrata, formerly of Atglen, died on Friday, December 24, 2004 at Fairmount Homes following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Samuel S. Kauffman, of Ephrata, with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage in March of this year.
She was born in Lancaster. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Z. & Rachel Lapp Smoker. Mae was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Atglen. She was a member of the church sewing circle, was a homemaker, and had also worked for Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant of Intercourse. She enjoyed quilting, and volunteered at the former Re-Uzit Shop in Coatesville.
Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons, Glenn, husband of Jeanne Georgenton Kauffman of Willow Street, Joseph, husband of Michele Wilson Kauffman of Strasburg, and Elvin, husband of Nell Martin Kauffman of Arroyo Grande, CA; 2 daughters, Esther, wife of J. Harold Bare of Paradise, and Rose, wife of Stephen White of Denver, CO; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Norman & Arthur Smoker. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Smoker.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, 549 Swan Road, Atglen, PA on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at 11AM with the Pastor William Blank and Pastor Herman Glick officiating. The interment will be in the adjoining church Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8PM, and again on Wednesday from 10AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mae s memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Robert J. Rutt

Robert J. Rutt, 82, of Denver, entered into rest Saturday in the Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster. Born in Denver, he was a son of the late John S. and Alma (Brendle) Rutt. He and his wife Florence L. (Flemish) celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on March 16.
Also surviving is a son, Robert J. Jr., husband of Diane (Mock) of Denver; grandchildren, Jackie L., wife of Justin Weaver and David A. Rutt; great grandson, Brady Paul Weaver; step granddaughter, Emily R. Moyer; sisters, Kathryn Rupp of Ephrata, and Gladys Lentz of Wyomissing; 6 nieces and nephews.
A plasterer for William Fitterling of Adamstown, Bob retired from Kurtz Pre-Cast of Denver. He was a WW II US Marines veteran, a life member of Cocalico Valley Post #3376 VFW of Ephrata, Cloister Post #429 American Legion, Ephrata, and the Denver Fire Co. Bob enjoyed fishing, gardening, metal detecting, the New York Yankees, and sports in general.

Elva Yinger

Elva Yinger, 87, formerly of Bethel, entered into rest Friday at the home of her son, 400 Meadowview Dr., Lebanon.
Born in E. Earl Twp., she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Anna (Horst) Zimmerman. Her husband J. Russell Yinger died May 17, 1996.
Surviving are her children: Charlotte Kindt, Paradise, Richard A. (Caroline), Kunkletown, Stanley L. (Patricia), Pen Argyl, Michael L. (Linda), with whom she resided, Charles E. (Bunny), Lebanon; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers: George Zimmerman, Shillington, Carl Zimmerman, Stevens, Eugene Zimmerman, British Columbia. Elva was preceded in death by a son, Billy and a grandson, William.
A former Avon Lady for 9 years, she delivered the Reading Eagle Newspaper, and was a member of Christ Evangelical Free Church, Strausstown.

William C. Gallagher

William C. Gallagher, 58, of Parkesburg, PA died at his home on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of E. Karen Richardson Gallagher with whom he celebrated 36 years of marriage.
He was born in Coatesville, son of the late Howard & Ruby Higgins Gallagher. He attended Christiana United Methodist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of Octorara High School and attended Penn State University, graduating from Drexel University. He was a Navy Seabee in the Vietnam War. He then did three tours in the South Pole as a nuclear power plant operator. He was a registered architect and a member of the A.I.A. & N.C.A.R.B. He taught environmental classes at Virginia Commonwealth University. He was a man that was full of integrity and great values in business and personal affairs. He was an environmental consultant and owner of EHC Associates, Inc., of Lancaster. He founded Blue Point Computers, Inc., of Lancaster, which is being run by his sons. He enjoyed his street rod "Wild Thing", renovating his home, raising pygmy goats, and boating. Also surviving is a daughter Julie S., wife of Darrel "Bub" Gibson of Christiana; 3 sons, W. Patrick of Millersville, Edward "Ted", husband of Jennifer Davis of Christiana, and Tom M.C. at home; 3 granddaughters, Kylie, Kendall and Karly. He was preceded in death by a daughter Jada S., and a brother Frank.
Funeral services will be held at the Christiana United Methodist Church, 14 S. Bridge Street, Christiana, PA on Wed., Oct. 13, 2004 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Matthew Buckwalter and Pastor Randy Smith officiating. The interment will be in the Glen Run Cemetery. Friends may call at the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA on Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Christiana Lions Club Heartship fund, Christiana, PA 17509. The fund was started by Bill to assist those in the community in need.
Dorothy A. DesRosiers Crimmins

Dorothy A. DesRosiers Crimmins found peace from Alzheimer s Disease Sunday, October 10 at the Jersey Shore Center, Batontown.
She was graduated from the Academy of St. Aloysius High School, Jersey City. Prior to her retirement in 1978, she was the circulation manager for the Union Leader Newspaper, Union Township, NJ. Previously she was employed by Chubb & Son.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, she resided in Jersey City and Union Township for 35 years, prior to moving to Toms River in 1978. She summered in Ocean Beach III, Dover Township.
She was a member of St. Joseph s Parish and the Silver Ridge Park Association. Previously, she was a commuitcant of St. Michael s Parish, Union, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
She was a loving, caring wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She baked the best chocolate chip cookies, loved serving snacks to her grandchildren and was known to always keep a can of hard candies and spearmint leaves in her car. She loved to travel, especially to Disney World, and urged her grandchildren to travle while they could enjoy it.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Crimmins Sr. in 1994; her brothers Henry DesRosiers and Leo Desmond and her sister Irene Roberts. Surviving are: a son, Thomas M. Jr., Fredricksburg, VA; two daughters, Patricia Jenkins of Wall Township and Maureen Fritz of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and her 13th great granchild due in January.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be at Reilly Funeral Home, 8th & D Street, Belmar, from 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday. The family will gather at the Funeral Home at 8:15 am on Saturday, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 9 am at The Church of St. Rose, Belmar. Interment will be at St. Joseph s Cemetery, Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights fo Columbus Council 5611, Special Children, PO Box 51, Spring Lake, NJ 07762.
Lewis E. “Lew” Miller

Lewis E. "Lew" Miller 78, of Parkesburg, died on Monday, November 1, 2004, at the West Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Pauline Peppernick Miller with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage. Born in Atglen, he was the son of the late Christian R. and Caroline Mast Miller.
He had lived in this area all his life and had served in the US Navy during WWII. Lew was employed by Lukens Steel Co, retiring with 27 years of service. He was most recently employed by the Brandywine Hospital and the Chester Count Assoc. for the Blind. He was a member of The Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church where he served as elder for eighteen years and also taught Sunday School. He was also a member of the Lukens Veterans Guild.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by four children, Delores L., wife of Patrick Rundle of Gap; Kathryn M. Shumate of Prince Fredrick, MD; Darlene, wife of David Arbuckle of Malvern; Duane L. Miller and wife, Ginny, of Lititz; 12 grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest Miller of Longmont, Colorado. He was preceded in death by one brother, R. Emerson Miller, and one sister, Pearl Stryker.
Memorial services will be held from the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church,1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chester County Association for the Blind, 71 S. 1st Ave., Coatesville, PA 19320.

Brett A. Harding

Brett A. Harding, 15, son of Alvin C. and Susan Brickman Harding of 107 Midway, Landisville, died Thursday at Lancaster General Hospital.
An honor student, he was a member of the ninth grade class at Hempfield High School. He excelled in soccer, a sport he had participated in since kindergarten. He played defense for the Hempfield High JV squad and the Lancaster United Premier Team. He also was a member of the Hempfield High Track team and ran in the Honey Run and Run for Fitness events. He attended Salem Evangelical Church of Loganville and was involved in the church youth group. He also participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at school.
In addition to his parents his brother Joel D. at home survives. His paternal grandmother, Rosemary Harding of Lancaster, maternal grandparents Arthur and A. Lou Brickman of Fort Wayne IN and Aunt Judy Harding of Lancaster also survive.
Funeral services will held from the Landisville Mennonite Church, 3320 Bowman Road, Landisville, on Saturday at 12 Noon with his Pastor Rev. John E. Winterstein, officiating. Interment in Loganville Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:30 AM until the time of service.
