Larry R. Kauffman, Sr., 64, of 31 Sunflower Drive, Ephrata, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at 12 Noon in his residence under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born December 31, 1940, in Reading, Berks County, he was a son of the late Edward L. and Catherine M. (Snyder) Kauffman, and was the husband of Betty J. (Noll) Kauffman for 47 years. A member of Reamstown Church of God, he was employed for 20 years by General Battery, now Exide Corporation, Reading, and had last worked as a driver for Manheim Auto Auction. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving in addition to his wife are 5 daughters, Denise A. (Kauffman) Keith, Denver, PA; Kim (Kauffman), wife of Steven Montgomery, Ephrata, PA; Patricia (Kauffman) Rotkiske, Ephrata, PA; Barbara (Kauffman), wife of Mark Montgomery, Akron, PA; and Tracy (Kauffman), wife of Jason Stricker, Reamstown, PA; 2 sons, Larry R., Jr., husband of Helen Kauffman, Sinking Spring, PA; and Glenn D. Kauffman, Reamstown, PA; 12 grandchildrend and 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Kauffman) wife of Thomas Williams, Amity, Oregon; and a brother, Wayne, husband of Sharon (Hahn) Kauffman, Reading, PA. A brother George Kauffman preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held on Monday evening, January 2, 2006, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at 10:00 AM from our parlors with The Rev. Arthur T. Karick and
The Rev. Joel R. Hainley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton, Berks County, PA.

Howard W. Kern
December19, 1921 - November 22, 2003
Howard W. Kern, 81, of 727 Alleghenyville Road, Mohnton, Berks County, died Saturday at 10:40 AM in Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, Berks County, where he was a patient since May 14th. Born in Brecknock Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Wayne A. and Nora E. (Seifrit) Kern, and was the husband of Ellen N. (Zerbe) Kern for 57 years on August 24th. He was a member and past council member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, Knauers, Berks County. Retiring in 1984, he was employed for over 30 years by Carpenter Technology, Reading, he was also a self-employed farmer for many years. Kern was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the Adamstown VFW and the Pennwyn Motor Association of Mohnton. He was a birdwatcher, hunter, Philadelphia “Phillies” fan and was an avid card player, especially pinochle and poker. Howard was also a member of the Bowmansville Golden Agers Senior Group Surviving in addition to his wife a 3 daughters, Judy E. (Kern), marriage to Michael P. Beaver; Susie J. (Kern), marriage to Randall G. Sanger; and Mary Ann Kern, all of Mohnton, PA; a granddaughter; 2 sisters, Mildred (Kern) Moyer, Honeybrook; and Meda Ann (Kern) Groff, Sinking Spring; and 4 brothers, Robert Kern, New Castle, DE; Eugene, marriage to Patricia (Orr) Kern, Narvon; Leon, marriage to Margaret (Blimline) Kern, Knauers; and Harold, marriage to Shirley (Drexel) Kern, Mohnton. He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis H. Kern, and 3 sisters, Florence Brightbill, Virginia Stover and June Ansel.
A viewing will be held on Friday morning, November 28, 2003, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM from Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Road, Knauers, PA 19540.
The ceremony celebrating Howard's life will begin at 11:30 PM with his pastor, The Reverend Richard W. Chaveas, officiating. Burial will follow in Allegheny Union Cemetery, Alleghenyville, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Peter Klaassen
January 20, 1923 - October 20, 2005
Peter Klaassen, 82, of 315 Orchard Road, Mohnton, Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, died Thursday, October 20, 2005, in Ephrata Community Hospital. He was under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born January 20, 1923, in Yellow Pine, Alabama, he was a son of the late Jacob and Anna (Funk) Klaassen, and was the husband of Ida R. (Trostle) Klaassen for 55 years. Pete had was employed as a machinist with Sperry New Holland, now CNH, New Holland, and was also a route salesman for Harting's Bakery, Bowmansville. An army corporal with the 285th Observation Battalion in World War II, he served the European Theatre receiving a purple heart for injuries sustained in Luxembourg. A member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville, he was a former scoutmaster of Cub Pack 34, a charter member of Dead Eye Hunting Camp, Potter County, an avid outdoorsman and Philadelphia “Phillies” fan. Surviving in addition to his wife are 4 sons, Michael P. Klaassen, Mohnton, PA ; Larry Jay Klaassen, Mohnton, PA ; Bruce A., husband of Jackie (Weaver) Klaassen, New Holland, PA; and Chris Lee, husband of Glenda (Fritz) Klaassen, Ephrata, PA; 7 grandchildren; a sister, Tina (Klaassen) Wingenroth, Ephrata, PA; and 2 brothers, Abram Klaassen, New Holland, PA; and Joseph Klaassen, Denver, PA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Brendle, and 2 brothers, Henry and John Klaassen.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at 11:00 AM from St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bowmansville, PA 17507, with his pastor The Reverend Robert A. Witmyer, officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM at the church.
Private inurnment in Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Viola E. Henry
February 5, 1912 - May 25, 2003
Viola E. Henry, 91, formerly of Akron, Lancaster County, died Sunday afternoon at 2:55 PM in Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, Lancaster County, where she was a resident since October 10, 1995. Born in Corn, Washita County, Oklahoma, she was a daughter of the late Henry J. and Anna (Ratzlaff) Unruh. Her husband, Paul W. Henry, died February 12, 1975. She was a member of Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Reinholds, Lancaster County, where she had been a Sunday school teacher in the primary department, a teacher of the Good News Club, and a member of the Ladies Missionary Society. Viola was last employed for 10 years in the bakery of Akron Restaurant, Akron. Prior employment was with the former Blue Line Knitting Mill, Denver, PA and the former Colonial Knitting Mill, Mohnton, PA. She is survived by a daughter, Jeannette L., marriage to Stanley M. Uibel, Reamstown, Lancaster County; a son, Ronald B. Henry, Ephrata, PA; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 brothers, J. Howard, marriage to Grace (Kurtz) Unruh, Stevens, PA; John V., marriage to Carolyn (Horning) Unruh, Mohnton, PA; Benjamin R., marriage to June (Gerhart) Unruh, Adamstown, PA; Richard H., marriage to Patsy (Youndt) Unruh, Adamstown, PA; and Robert D., marriage to Shirley (Moore) Unruh, Denver, PA. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Luella Wingenroth, Irene Fry and Verda Byler.
Viola's viewing will be held from our funeral parlor on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and also on Thursday, May 29, 2003, from 9:30 to 10:00 AM at the church.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, May 29th, 2003, from Emmanuel Mennonite Church, 1200 West Swartzville Road, Reinholds, PA, with The Rev. Dr. David Young officiating. Burial will follow in Steinmetz Cemetery, West Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, PA.

November 29, 1929 - September 5, 2002
Helen Jones, 72, of 9 Bunker Hill Road, Stevens, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at 9:00 AM in her residence. She had been under a doctor’s care. Born in Conshohocken, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Rapchuck) Baron, and was the wife of John F. Jones for 51 years on February 23rd. Helen was a member of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Ephrata. She was a 1947 graduate of Upper Merion High School, Upper Merion, PA. Jones retired in 1988 after 17 years of employment as a secretary with Dutch Peddler/Mt. Bethany Co., Inc./Bavaria Ltd., Reamstown. Earlier she worked for James Lee Mills, Bridgeport, PA. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, jigsaw puzzles and family gatherings. Surviving in addition to her husband are 5 children, Deborah M. (Jones), marriage to Kenneth L. Eshleman, Stevens, PA; Cynthia J. (Jones), marriage to Stanley R. Staneski, Denver, PA; Sandra H. (Jones), marriage to Tony C. Leed, Denver, PA; Melissa A. Jones, at home; and Timothy F., marriage to Yong O. Jones, Dover, PA; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 2 step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; and 2 sisters, Mary Shamber and Katherine Guercia, both of Philadelphia, PA.
Helen's viewing will be held from our parlors on Monday evening, September 9, 2002, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from her church, Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 320 Church Avenue, Ephrata, PA, on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM. The casket will be open for viewing at the church prior to the Mass.
Entombment will follow the Mass in the Memory Gardens Mausoleum, East Cocalico Township, PA.

Edna M. Kachel, 89, of 555 Sell Road, Mohnton, Berks County ( Brecknock Township ), died Saturday, August 28, at 12:05 PM in Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center, Narvon, Lancaster County, where she resided since July 22, 2004. Born in Brecknock Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac L. and Cora E. (Seifrit) Westley. Her husband, Morris E. “Mike” Kachel, died December 20, 1999. She was a life member of Robeson Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mohnton (Plowville), where she was a former Sunday school teacher, Bible school teacher, choir member and member of the Ladies Aide quilting group. A housewife, she was a life member of the Brecknock Fir Company Ladies Auxiliary, Alleghenyville, Berks County, and was a member of the Robeson Robins Senior Citizens. Surviving are 2 daughters, Evelyn G. (Kachel), marriage to Gerald M. Hoffert, Mohnton, PA ; and Marian A. Kachel, Mohnton, PA; a granddaughter; and 3 sisters, Katie E. (Westley), marriage to Oliver C. “Jake” Kochel, Sinking Spring, PA; Beatrice (Westley) Kochel, Morgantown, PA; and Ada M. (Westley) Peters, Mohnton, PA.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM from Robeson Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3520 Plow Road, Mohnton, PA 19540. The service celebrating Edna's life will begin at 11:00 AM and burial will follow in the adjoining Cemetery.

Clara E. Kametz
February 10, 1922 - August 7, 2002
Clara E. Kametz, 80, of Stevens, Lancaster County, died Wednesday evening of natural causes in Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, Lancaster County, where she resided since July 3rd.
Born in Landis Valley, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Mabel (Ecenroad) Shemberger, and was a wife of 60 years of Joseph Kametz, Jr.
She was a homemaker that enjoyed sewing & crocheting for her family, loved fishing, watching football and was an avid Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Clara L., marriage to Andrew Good, Reamstown, Lancaster County, and 2 grandsons.
Clara's viewing will be held on Saturday morning, August 10, 2002, from 9:30 to 10:30 PM with the services beginning at 10:30. The Reverend Kirk R. Marks will officiate from our parlor.
The burial will take place in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Wabash Road, East Cocalico Township, PA.
