Kevin E. Steely, 36, of 90 Cocalico Creek Road, Stevens, Lancaster County, was found dead unexpectedly in his residence December 25th. An autopsy was performed at Conestoga View, Lancaster, results are pending. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Delores (Kohl) Steely Jaxel, Stevens, and the late Gerald E. Steely, Sr. He was employed by D & M Concrete, Stevens. Also surviving is his step-father, Charles W. Jaxel, Sr., Stevens; and a brother, Gerald E. Steely, Jr., Stevens.
Kevin will be remembered during a memorial service on Saturday, December 29, 2001, at 1:00 PM with his uncle, Pastor Ricky L. Loose, officiating.

Earl J. Sweigart
June 6, 1922 - October 15, 2003
Earl J. Sweigart, 81, of 90 Napierville Road, Ephrata, Lancaster County, died Wednesday evening in Ephrata Community Hospital where he was a patient for two weeks. He was under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. Born in Adamstown, Lancaster County, he was a son of the late John and Carrie (Snyder) Sweigart. His wife, J. Beulah (Werntz) Sweigart, died January 2, 1998. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Adamstown. Retiring in 1987, he was employed for over 40 years in the floor tile division of Armstrong Industries, Lancaster. Earl enjoyed hunting and watching sports and westerns on television. Surviving is a son, Larry L. Sweigart, Lorton, Virginia; a sister, Catherine (Sweigart) Kochel, and a brother, Howard S. Sweigart, both of Adamstown.
A viewing will be held on Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 PM from our parlors.
The ceremony celebrating Earl's life will be held from our funeral home on Monday afternoon at 2:00 PM with his pastor, The Reverend Sandra L. Gideon, officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Howard S. Sweigart

Raised Beagles for Many Years
Howard S. Sweigart, 83, of 105 Willow Street, Adamstown, Lancaster County, PA, died Friday morning at 2:04 AM in Ephrata Community Hospital where he was a patient one day. Born in Adamstown, he was a son of the late John and Carrie (Snyder) Sweigart. His wife, Elbina B. “Ellie” (Lorah) Sweigart, died July 16, 1980. He was employed as a baker for 30 years by Bordens, Inc., Mohnton, Berks County, retiring in 1985. Sweigart was an Army Sergeant during World War II and was a member of the Adamstown VFW. Howard had raised beagles for many years and was a life member of the Pocono Beagle Club. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara A. (Sweigart), marriage to George W. Haynes, Stevens, PA; 2 sons, Jay H. Sweigart, Shillington, PA; and Barry L., marriage to Cynthia (Levandowski) Sweigart, West Lawn, PA; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Catherine (Sweigart) Kochel, Adamstown, PA. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Floyd and Earl Sweigart.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 21, 2004, from Noon to 1:00 PM from our parlors. The service celebrating Howard's life will begin at 1:00 PM with The Reverend William E. Hoch officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Adamstown, Lancaster County, PA.
Jerry Sweigart
September 14, 1946 - September 8, 2002
Alton G. “Jerry” Sweigart, 55, of 110A Mechanic Street, Reinholds, Lancaster County, died Sunday afternoon at 1:47 PM in the Lebanon Veterans Administration Medical Center, South Lebanon Township, Lebanon County, where he was a patient 4 days. His death followed a lengthy illness. Born in Reamstown, Lancaster County, he was a son of Pauline K. (Buohl) Sweigart, Denver, and the late Alton W. Sweigart. Sweigart was a navy veteran of the Vietnam War, and was a life member of the Reinholds VFW. He was employed as a truck driver for Kurtz’s Stone Quarry, Denver, for 17 years, having worked until the time of his illness. Previously he was employed by H. R. Ewell, Inc., East Earl, PA. Jerry was an avid NASCAR fan. Surviving in addition to his mother, are 2 sons, Gerald T., marriage to Sonya J. (Manna) Sweigart, Fleetwood, PA; and Jesse P. Sweigart, Reinholds, PA; a daughter, Stacy L. Sweigart, address unknown; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Linda L., marriage to Gary Youndt, Denver, PA; and Brenda J. Wike, Denver; and 3 brothers, Leslie M., marriage to Louise (Good) Swiegart, Mohnton, PA; Benjamin P., marriage to Karin (Garner) Sweigart, Denver, PA; and Gary E., marriage to Debra (Grosteffon) Sweigart, Roseland, VA.
Jerry's family will be holding a private graveside service from Memory Gardens Memorial Park, East Cocalico Townhip, Lancaster County, PA.
Ellen J. Sweigart
June 29, 1935 - July 3, 2004
Ellen J. Sweigart, 69, of 259 North Reamstown Road, Denver, Lancaster County, died Saturday morning at 6:46 AM in Union Hospital, Elkton, Maryland, where she was taken after being stricken with a heart attack on her way to visit relatives in Delaware. Her death followed a lengthy illness. Born in Schaefferstown, Lebanon County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Lydia (Palm) Strickler, and was the wife of Clayton L. Sweigart, for 49 years on February 11th, 2004. She was a member of Muddy Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Swartzville. Ellen was employed years ago by Bollman Hat Company, Adamstown, and previously by the former Hemmerich Industries, Denver. Surviving in addition to her husband are 2 daughters, Brenda L. Morehouse, Newville, PA; and Linda F., marriage to Kevin R. Fry, Stevens, PA; 4 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Walter, marriage to Ruthann Strickler, Lewes, DE (who they were going to visit), and Paul Strickler, Pine Grove, PA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Wenrich, and 2 brothers, Henry & Harold Strickler.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2004, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM from our parlors. The ceremony celebrating Ellen's life will begin at 11:00 AM with her pastor, The Reverend Joyce A. Seip, and The Reverence Surj Paul, officiating.
Burial will follow in Muddy Creek Cemetery, East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County, PA.
John Sweigart
January 1, 1991 - February 12, 2002
John V. Sweigart, 11, of 790 Ridge Avenue, Ephrata, Lancaster County, died as a result of a gunshot wound inflicted by his mother in his home Tuesday night. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was a son of Bryan K. Sweigart and the late Rosemary Vigilante, with whom he resided. John was a 5th grade student at Lancaster Country Day School, Lancaster, where he enjoyed reading, basketball and soccer. He was also enjoyed archery and fishing and was a Star Wars enthusiast. He also loved riding motorcycle and attending flea markets with his Dad. Surviving in addition to his father are paternal grandparents, Mel R. and Joan E. (Fake) Sweigart, Ephrata; and maternal grandmother, Mary Vigilante, Margate, New Jersey, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
John's family will receive friends on Monday, February 18, 2002, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in our funeral home with a brief service to be held at 11:00 AM. A committal service will follow at Muddy Creek Cemetery, Swartzville, Lancaster County, PA.

Josephine Sweigart
April 18, 1929 - October 19, 2003
Josephine Sweigart, 74, of 37 Miller Road, Akron, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly in her residence Sunday morning. She was born in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, a daughter of the late William and Maggie (Steinmetz) Bender. Her husband, Bertallen J. Sweigart, died February 15, 1995. Prior to retiring, she was employed for 28 years by the former Fleet-Aire Shoe Company, Ephrata. Josephine was an avid bingo player and enjoyed crocheting and working puzzles. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra L. Martin, and a son, Rodney A., marriage to Robin C. (Rowe) Sweigart, both of Ephrata; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mereda (Bender) Buckwalter, Leola, PA; Arlene (Bender), marriage to Robert Schall, Leola, PA; and Pauline (Bender) Stump, Akron, PA; and 2 brothers, Mahlon, marriage to Jane Bender, and William Bender, Jr., both of Lancaster, PA
A viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2003, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our funeral home.
