Benjamin Gottesman, 86, of Holiday Court, Kingston, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Dec. 24 in Lake Worth, Fla.

He was born Nov. 6, 1915 in New York City. He was a graduate of GAR High School and attended Wilkes University. He was the buyer and merchandise manager of J.S. Raub Shoe Corp., Wilkes-Barre, for over 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Ohav Zedek Congregation and Irem Temple.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ted; brother, Saul; and sisters, Florence Udes and Sarah Lehrfeld.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; daughter, Susan Gottesman Rabkin; two grandchildren; and sister, Eleanor Halprin, Bensalem.

Funeral services were held at Temple Beth Tikvah, Lake Worth, Fla. Funeral arrangements were by the I.J. Morris Funeral Directors, Lake Worth. Memorial donations may be made to Ohav Zedek Synagogue, Wilkes-Barre.

Curtis J. Wynings, 58, of Main Street, Nanticoke, died Wednesday at the Hospice Community Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Beaver Township, he was a son of the late Alvin and Mabel C. (Klingaman) Wynings. He was a graduate of the Bloomsburg High School. Until retiring, he worked for Arcus Brothers Furniture Store, Bloomsburg, for nine years, before retiring, and previously worked for Decker Brothers for 13 years and McGee Carpet Co., both of Bloomsburg. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Nanticoke.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late William and Julia (Clapper) Fargo. She attended Kingston schools. She attended the Shavertown United Methodist Church.

Born Aug. 18, 1908 in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Katherine (Hudak) Pesch. She was a member of St. Gregory Byzantine Catholic Church, Beltsville, Md.

Jones, Robert

Robert A. Jones, 59, of West Pittston, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born Jan. 26, 1942 in West Pittston, he was the son of the late Herbert and Delphine (Hitchner) Jones. He was a graduate of West Pittston High School. He was self-employed as an electrician for over 35 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, West Pittston, Valley Lodge No. 499 F&AM and The Barber Shopper's Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America of Wyoming Valley.

Donna C. Bandish, 79, of Loyalville, Lake Township, died Thursday at her son, Bruce E. Bandish's home. Born in Preble Township, Minnesota, she was a daughter of the late John and Beulah (Anderson) Benston. She attended schools in Minnesota and was a 1943 graduate of Moody Bible School, Minnesota. She taught Vacation Bible School at Oak Hills, near Bemidji, Minn., and was a missionary at Oak Hills for the next 11 years.

Anthony A. Joyce, 78, of Pittsburgh, formerly of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre and Union, N.J., died Wednesday at the Manor Care Nursing Facility, North Hills, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 21, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Burns) Joyce. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School. He worked at the former International Color Printing Co., and later was a machinist in Union, N.J. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Silic, John

John M. Silic, of Charles Street, Courtdale, died Thursday at his home. Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late John and Marian (Moncovich) Silic. He was a 1953 graduate of Luzerne High School. He formerly worked for Brocca Garage, West Wyoming, and Leslie Fay Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Swoyersville Athletic Club as a pitcher in the 1950s and tried out for the Detroit Tigers. He also was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Church, Kingston.

Konsavage, Mary

Mary (Golightly) Konsavage, 76, of Traverse City, Mich., formerly of Edwardsville, died Dec. 28 at home. Born Feb. 15, 1925 in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Gwendolyn (Jones) Golightly. She was a 1943 graduate of Edwardsville High School.

Anne T. Gallagher, formerly of Broad Street and Mill Street, Pittston, died Thursday at the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Enos and Clara (Dawson) Gallagher. She was a graduate of St. John High School and Marywood College. She was a teacher in the Lodi, N.J., public school system. She served in the U.S. Coast Guard for two years.

Zerillo, Rose

Rose Christina Zerillo, 83, of Blue Ridge Trail, Slocum Township, died Thursday at her home. Born Oct. 15, 1918 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Angela Piazza. She worked for Eberhard Faber Co., Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Our Lady Help of Christians, Dorrance Township.

Johnson, Earl

Earl Theodore Johnson, 40, of Jenkins-Stark Road, Tunkhannock, died Monday at Route 29 and Stevens Lake Road, Lemon Township, Wyoming County, as the result of an automobile accident. Born Feb. 27, 1961 in Sayre, he was a son of Betty (Hoover) Johnson, of Tunkhannock, and the late Theodore Johnson. He was a field stone stacker. He was a former member of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Ida Louise Faux, 52, of Sterner Avenue, Bloomsburg, died Thursday at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Feb. 5, 1949 in Macon, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Curtis Edward and Anne Kay (Rushton) Welliver. She was a graduate of Benton Area High School. She worked for Hills Department Store and Buckhorn Restaurant. She was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Bloomsburg.

Ilkewicz, Walter

Walter E. Ilkewicz, 81, of West Main Street, Plymouth, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born May 8, 1920 in Ashley, he was the son of the late George and Mary Ilkewicz. He attended the Wilkes-Barre area schools. He was self-employed as a truck driver for most of his life and also worked for Certain Teed, Mountaintop, retiring in 1973. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1945 in Northern France and the Rhineland, where he was wounded in action in Germany. He served under Gen. Patton in the European Campaigns of War. He received the Purple Heart Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and World War II Victory Medal. He was a former member of Franklin Street Primitive Methodist Church, Plymouth.

Blanche Katheryn Juba, 79, a resident of Park Towers, Nanticoke, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born March 31, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Alice (Kaminski) Golon. She worked at Heavenly Shoe Co. for many years.

Fennick, Adolph

Adolph F. Fennick, 75, Wilkes-Barre Township, died Sunday at home.

Born Jan. 26, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Szabo) Fennick. He was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School and Lehigh University with a bachelor's degree in journalism. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked in area coal mines for many years and was employed by Acme Warehouse, Forty Fort, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph's Friary, Wilkes-Barre Township; American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township; and Teamsters Union Local 401. He was active in local politics and served as committeeman for the Wilkes-Barre Township Republican Organization. He helped organize the Georgetown teeners baseball team and coached in the Central Baseball League.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Theresa Hendricks; sons, Richard and Joseph; brothers, Nicholas, Albert and Elmer; and sisters, Rozella Zigmantanis and Matilda Polakoski.

Surviving are his daughters, Rebecca Shubilla, Wilkes-Barre Township; Roxanne Casey, Exeter; Renita, Wilkes-Barre; Rochelle Shubilla, Wilkes-Barre Township; seven grandchildren; sisters, Mary Dzanko, Wilkes-Barre Township; Elizabeth Umbra, Wilkes-Barre; Anna Proctor, Lake Charles, La.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Friary, Wilkes-Barre Township. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Frushon, Grace

Grace Marie Frushon, 83, of Kennedy Street, Pittston, died Saturday at her home.

Born Dec. 26, 1918 in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Ignatius and Theresa (Battisti) Emma. She attended Pittston City schools. She worked in the area garment industry and helped her husband at Wimpy's Newsstand, Pittston. She was a member of St. Rocco's Church and its Christian Mothers Society, and also the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and the San Cataldo Society, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Salvatore and Joseph; and sister, Lillian.

Surviving are her husband, Guidon "Wimpy;" sisters, Josephine Lazzari, Theresa Sagliocolo and Mary Alessandri, all of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 Pittston Blvd., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rocco's Church. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Sweeda, Joseph

Joseph J. Sweeda, 79, of West Bergh Street, Hudson section of Plains Township, died Friday in New Jersey.

Born in the Hudson section of Plains Township, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Nowak) Sweeda. He was a 1940 graduate of Plains Memorial High School, 1950 graduate of Mansfield University and received his master's of education degree from Alfred University, New York, in 1952. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps before World War II and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the First Marine Raider Battalion in the South Pacific. He was attached to the Amphibious Corps, serving under Col. Edson, and was on the first assaults of Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal. He received two Purple Hearts, among many other decorations and later was a drill instructor in Quantico, Va., until his discharge. He was a teacher for the New York State Reformatory, Elmira, N.Y., for over 25 years, until retiring. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson, and first president of the Hudson Servicemen's Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jane McNeil; brother, Edward F.; and sister, Isabelle Yanaitis.

Surviving are his sisters, Sylvia Loferski, Providence, R.I.; and Irene Latosek, Kendall Park, N.J., with whom he resided; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church.

Gavel, Leo

Leo A. Gavel, 81, formerly of Enterprise Street, Glen Lyon, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Nov. 9, 1916, in Sugar Notch, he was the son of the late Teofil and Ester (Ruda) Gavel. He was a 1936 graduate of Sugar Notch High School. Before his retirement, he worked at Susquehanna Coal Company as a miner. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a hospital coreman on the U.S.S. Wasatch in the South Pacific Theater. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, St. Denis Church, Glen Lyon, and was a member of American Legion Post 539, Glen Lyon, and a life member of VFW Post 8353, Glen Lyon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine Burns; brothers John, Chester, Stanley and Anthony; sisters Martha B. Gentile and Celia Krolick.

Surviving are his son, Leo J., at home; daughter, Corrine Stankovitch, Nanticoke; one grandson; brother, Leonard, Warrior Run; sisters, Marie "Mae" Kolodgeski, Avon, N.J.; Regina "Jean" Kolodgeski, Bloomfied, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.

A military funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the George A. Strish Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, Glen Lyon. Interment will be at St. Adalbert's Cemetery. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Krolikowski, Eugene

Eugene Krolikowski, 94, of East Main Street, Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, died Friday at the Hospice Community Care of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon.
