Genevieve Adams, of Tiffany Court, Edwardsville, died Saturday in the Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit of Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late John and Tessie Penkala Nasternak. She attended Plains Township schools and resided in Levittown for many years before returning to the Wyoming Valley. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; brothers, John and Edward Nasternak; and sister, Lillian Briske.
Surviving are brothers, Stanley Nasternak, Laflin; Chester Nasternak, San Diego; sister, Lottie Petrick, Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township. Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Dallas. There will be no calling hours.
Lewis Shook

Lewis Alfred Shook, 89, a native of West Pittston, died Tuesday in Garner, N.C.
Born July 20, 1910, he was a graduate of East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and Penn State University. He taught chemistry and math courses for more than 38 years, teaching at West Pittston High School. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Valley Lodge and the Irem Temple Shrine Oriental Band. He was a life member of the United Methodist Church, West Pittston.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Kathryn Evans Shook; daughters, Karen Havard, Waverly, Va.; Kathleen Lewis, Clayton, N.C.; son, Charles, Columbia, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church, West Pittston. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Homes, Garner.
Andrew Petrus

Andrew D. Petrus, 84, of Keystone Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 14, 1915, in Mocanaqua, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Yanosczyk Petrus. He was educated in the Newport Township schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the European Theater of Operations.
He worked for the Glen Alden Coal Co. and, before retiring in 1977, was employed as a professional painter. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Nanticoke, and the Allied Painters Union Local 42.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John; sisters, Mary, Helen and Ann.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Anna Granitski; sons, Andrew R., Ramsey, Minn.; Thomas M., Mountaintop; brother, Anthony C., Baltimore; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home, Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Nanticoke. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Dominic Comita

Dominic P. Comita, 69, of Fallon Street, Old Forge, died Saturday in the Moses Taylor Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton, after a brief illness.
Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Louise Gigliotti Comita. He was educated in the Old Forge School District.
Before retiring, he was self-employed as a mason. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and earned the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7504, Piscataway, N.J., and St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Old Forge.
Surviving are his sisters, Marie "Jean'' Comita Crecco, Old Forge; Genevieve Comita Fredmonski, Piscataway; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, with the Rev. Stanley Kurash, associate pastor, officiating. George Newberry

George W. Newberry, 83, of Sweet Valley, died Friday at the ManorCare Health Services, Kingston.
Born May 19, 1917, in Noxen, he was the son of the late Charles and Adabell Ryman Newberry. He graduated from Union Endicott High School, Vestal, N.Y. He was a member of the Muskegon Masonic Lodge, Muskegon, Mich., and attended the Outlet Free Methodist Church, Harveys Lake.
He served as vice president of Whitehall Tannery, Michigan; was a salesman for the Wakefield Chemical Co., Worcester, Mass.; a color matcher for Endicott Johnson Shoe Co., Endicott, N.Y.; and retired as a consultant for Wolverine International, Rockford, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Alice Livings; and brother, Marvin Ralph Newberry.
Surviving are his wife of 11 years, the former Betty Sutton Gosart; sons, George, Carlisle; Charles, Ionia, Mich.; daughter, Vivian Grady, Ionia; step daughter, Beverly Gerrity, Hunlock Creek; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Thomas Adolph

Thomas L. Adolph, of Yeager Avenue, Shavertown, died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born Sept. 6, 1926, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Edgar J. and Lillian Evans Adolph Sr. He attended the Back Mountain area schools and graduated from Lincoln Preparatory School, Philadelphia. He resided in Philadelphia for 10 years and lived in the Dallas area for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific zone. He managed the Lackawanna Lunch restaurant in Kingston until it closed. He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he served as an elder and deacon and was on the governing board. He also taught Sunday school for many years.
Surviving is his brother, Edgar J. Adolph Jr., Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Hugh Jones Funeral Home, 392 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Scott Hartsock officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Beatrice Souder Rosengrant, 92, a former resident of Fairmount Township, Sweet Valley, died Saturday at Gold Star Nursing Home, Danville.
Born March 11, 1908, in Ross Township, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Elizabeth Scott Goss. She attended the Mooretown Assembly of God Church, Mooretown, for many years and was a church organist. She was employed as a seamstress in the garment industry.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Souder; second husband, Glen Rosengrant; son, Burton Souder; sisters, Letha Long, Laura Eckrote and Mary Baker; brothers, Harold, Earl and William Goss.
Surviving are her daughters, Evelyn Parkinson, Wilkes-Barre; Marjorie Cotterman, Huntington Mills; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home, Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Glen Goss officiating. Interment will be in Latteer Cemetery, Sweet Valley. Friends may call from noon until the time of services Tuesday.

Frank J. Ott, of Barney Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 22, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Mische Ott. He was a member of the 1942 graduating class at Coughlin High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a meat salesman for G.H. Hammond Co. in South Bend, Ind., after the war.
He returned to Wilkes-Barre in 1959 and was employed as an automobile salesman for Eidem Cadillac and David Ertley Inc. before retiring. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its Holy Name Society; St. Conrad's Society; the German-Austrian Club of Wilkes-Barre; and the Wilkes-Barre Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, Michael and Bernard; and sister, Leona Fischer.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Frances Wood, with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Jan. 23; sons, Ronald F. Ott, Wilkes-Barre; Dr. Gerard Ott, D.M.D., Berlin, Md.; daughter, Jane Dorang, Bartonsville; brothers, William, Wilkes-Barre; John, Hyattsville, Md.; Anthony, Centerville, Va.; sister, Marie Staab, Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Walter W. Lisman & Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Edmund "Jay'' Goham Jr., of Mill Street, Pittston, died Sunday at his home.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late Edmund and Helen (Whalen) Goham.
He was a graduate of St. Mary's Assumption Grade School, Pittston, and a 1952 graduate of St. John's High School, Pittston.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Bennington.
He worked for Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, and its men's societies, and was a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, John F. Kennedy Council 372, and its choir.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Marie Keenan; daughters, Ellen Swiontek, Marriottsville, Md.; and Patrice Goham, Baltimore, Md.; sons, Edmund III "Ned'', Cuyhoga Falls, Ohio; and John Patrick, Inkerman, Jenkins Township; sister, Marlyn Surash, Rochester, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Ruane & Regan Funeral Home, 18 Kennedy St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church.
Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Pittston.

Bette L. (Mathe) Handler, 82, of Fairview Township died Sunday at her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1917, in White Haven, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Meisinger) Mathe.
She worked for the New York Telephone Co. and owned and operated a restaurant in Freeport, N.Y.
She was a member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Mountaintop.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Graswald; sisters, Anna Mosebauer, Mary Steininger, Emma Biebel, Katherine LePrell and Agnes Whitby; and brothers, Joseph, William and Albert Mathe.
Surviving are her husband, John Handler; daughters, Linda Spagnola, Baldwin, N.Y.; and Jill Gower, Mountaintop; sons, Henry Graswald, Fort Myers, Fla.; Gary Graswald, Bayshore, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Herman Mathe, Queens, N.Y.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Jude's Church.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dennison Township.

Charles F. Miller

Charles F. Miller, 94, of High Street, Valley View Terrace in Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Hospice Community Care Unit at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Charles F. Miller Sr. and the late Daisy Viola Thompson.
Mr. Miller had resided on High Street in Wilkes-Barre for the past 24 years. He previously resided in Kingston and earlier in Forty Fort. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he was employed as a television repairman for the former Stull Brothers in Kingston for 42 years.
Mr. Miller was a member of Wyoming Avenue Christian Church in Kingston, where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid golfer.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Mary Jane Lutz; brother, James Miller; sisters, Loretta Rundle and Elsie Sherman.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Joan Namey, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, David C. Namey, Michael A. Namey and Joan Hine, all of Wilkes-Barre; 2 great-grandchildren, Allyson Hine and David Charles Namey.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with his pastor, the Rev. William Fudge, officiating.
