William Tomasch, 82, of Dallas, died Sunday at his home after an illness.
Born in Metzenzeifen, Czechoslovakia, he was a son of the late Viktor and Mary (Goebl) Tomasch.
He was educated in Czechoslovakia and earned a master's degree in cabinetry. He immigrated to the United States in 1949.
He and his brother owned and operated the Tomasch Brothers Lumber Co., East Stroudsburg.
He was a member of St. Therese's Church, Trucksville.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Tomasch; and sisters, Mary Gedeon and Margaret Turincs.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Magdalene Broestl; daughters, Elizabeth Bilbow, Forty Fort; Martha Baker, Princeton, N.J.; and Christine Bak, Philadelphia; sons, Reinhard, Arlington, Va.; and Edmund, Hainesport, N.J.; and nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue, Trucksville, with the Rev. Peter Crynes officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Basu, Ashim

Ashim K. Basu, 50, of Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday after a sudden heart attack.
Born Jan. 1, 1950, in Calcutta, India, he was a son of Arun and Malati Basu, Seattle, Wash.
He earned a bachelor's degree in political science and economics and master's degree in international affairs from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, and a master's degree and doctorate in public health administration from Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, Calif.
He taught health care administration, political science and public administration at Wilkes University. He served as director of the university's master's degree program in health administration and associate dean of the school of business, society and public policy. He was dean of the school of health sciences and human performance at East Stroudsburg University; vice president of academic affairs at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, North Adams, Mass.; and vice president of academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Marymount Manhattan College, New York. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to teach health services administration at the College of Health Sciences, Manama, Bahrain.
He was a graduate of Leadership Wilkes-Barre, served on the boards of the United Way of Wyoming Valley and the Maternal and Family Health Services of Wilkes-Barre, and a member of the Business-Health Care Coalition and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Coalition for Patient Rights in Nursing Homes.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, the former Sandra Slotnick; sister, Sutapa Basu, and brother, Ashoke Basu, both of Seattle, Wash.; and nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Jacobs Funeral Home, 47 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre. Anyone wishing to share in the traditional Hindu ritual should arrive at 9 a.m.
Friends will be received after the service.

James K. Berryman, 68, of RD 1, Canadensis, died Saturday at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake, N.Y.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late James L. and Mary (Warke) Berryman.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was a salesman for the Glidden Paint Co., Wilkes-Barre.
He attended St. John's Episcopal Church, Hamlin.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marianne Drake; daughters, Deborah Weiskerger, Trucksville; and Susan Saylor, Harveys Lake; sons, Stephen J., Wilkes-Barre; Douglas K., Wyoming; James M., Chesapeake, Va.; and Gregory L., Tafton; sister, Gloria Whyte, Canadensis; and Donna Evans, Wilkes-Barre; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Episcopal Church, Hamlin, with the Rev. Ed Erb officiating.

Vernard Neely, 62, of Dallas, died Sunday at Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke.
Born June 24, 1938, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Vernard and Leona (Young) Neely.
He was educated in Plymouth schools.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
He worked for Procter & Gamble, Mehoopany.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Mary Ellen Lavin; son, Martin J., Topsham, Maine; daughter, Sharon Fisk, Sweet Valley; three grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Watkins, Shickshinny; Janet Ravert, Hunlock Creek; and Hazel Lamoreaux, Alden; and brother, Howard, Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Reginald H. Thomas of the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Park, Dallas.

Aldo Ceccacci, 89, formerly of Allied Terrace, Scranton, and Breaker Street, Old Forge, died Sunday at the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Santi and Adele (Matterazzi) Ceccacci.
He was educated in Old Forge schools.
He worked for local coal mines, including the Kehoe-Burge Coal Co.
He was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Old Forge, and the former Giovanelli Society, Old Forge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Eleanora "Laura" Biscontini; daughter, Eleanor; a grandson; sister, Natalina "Nellie" Beviglia; and brothers, Herman, Louis and Guido.
Surviving are his son, Samuel J., Old Forge; sisters, Esther Guidi and Lena Sharr, both of Old Forge; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.

Laura M. (Lloyd) Watkins, 83, of Kingston, died Saturday at Dorrance Manor, Kingston.
Born April 26, 1917, in Luzerne, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Baker) Lloyd.
She attended Luzerne High School.
She was a waitress at the former F.W. Woolworth Co., Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of the Bethesda Congregational Church, Edwardsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David D.; brothers, Thomas, Arthur and James Lloyd; and sister, Beatrice Mott.
Surviving are her daughter, Laura L. Luff, Kingston; son, William D., Luzerne; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Donald E. Cease officiating.

Rosario "Russ" Ferraro, 82, of Plains Township, died Saturday at his home.
Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late Sam and Rosalia (Carizzi) Ferraro.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He worked in local coal mines, for the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Co. and for Medico Industries, Plains Township.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Gubitose.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Ethel Dini; sons, Charles, at home; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Alfonso, Pittston; sisters, Mary Alba, Pittston; and Ronnie Click, Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernard J. Stanulis, 55, of Upper Demunds Road, Dallas, formerly of Wyoming and West Wyoming, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late Alex and Helen (Pawlasty) Stanulis. He was a 1963 graduate of Wyoming Memorial High School and attended Luzerne County Community College. He was a data entry operator at the Social Security Data Operations Center, Plains Township, and worked for Roth American, Kingston. He was a member of St. Therese Church, Shavertown, and the Four Seasons Golf Club, Exeter, and a former coach in the Industrial Slow Pitch Softball League.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, the former Ruth Tinsley; daughters, Elizabeth Chabala, Shavertown; and Barbara Estrella, Somerville, Mass.; sister, Mary Ellen Carey, West Wyoming; two grandchildren; and one niece.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Park, Carverton.

Born in Lucca, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Amedeo and Pauline (Capece) Nocchi. She was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Freeland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Ponzi;" daughter, Caroline Arcure; and brothers, Martin, Nicholas, Salvatore and Anthony.
Surviving are her sons, William, Jr., Sandy Valley; Robert, Corning, N.Y.; Martin, Freeland; and Joseph, at home; daughter, Pauline MacDougall, Freeland; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Born in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian Tyburski. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke, and its Women's Catholic Council.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and son, Gerald.
Surviving are her daughter, Joan, Nanticoke; son, Robert, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Irene Frances Ford, 79, of Bethlehem, died Saturday at Old Stage Coach Road, Bridgewater, N.J.
Born Oct. 31, 1920, in the Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, she was the daughter of the late Louis "Bob" and Margaret (Smolinski) Meshinski. She was a 1941 graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing and registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital, both of Fountain Hill; and member of St. Ursula's Catholic Church, Bethlehem.
Surviving are her son, Michael J., III, San Antonio; daughter, Margaret Ann Everett, Bridgewater, N.J.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and brother, William Meshinski.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J.

Born in Avoca, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Maloney) Gilroy. She was a graduate of St. John's High School, Pittston, an instructor at International Correspondence School and member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Hughestown.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Bridget (McHale) Gilroy; brothers, Joseph, William and Edward; and sisters, Alice Pettengill and Lenore Oliver.
Surviving are her sisters, Mildred Teplir, Hughestown; Ann Carey, Avoca; and Catherine Robinson, Selinsgrove; and several nieces and nephews.
