John Ford Jr., of the Waverly-Abington area, died Wednesday at the Intensive Care Unit of Mercy Hospital, Scranton.Born in East Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late John and Hazel (Houghton) Ford. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School and attended Bucknell University and the University of North Carolina. He was a manager of the Business Services Center of Bell Telephone in the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre area, active in real estate, with a brokers license with John J. Lavelle, Clarks Summit, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a 1942 graduate of Plains Memorial High School, graduate of the died Wednesday at the VNA Hospice at the Community Medical Center, Scranton.Born in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy (Bieler) Herbert. She was a 1946 graduate of Old Forge High School.

Helen (Young) Johnson, 64, of Woodcrest, Berwick RR 3, formerly of Bloomsburg, died Friday at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for the past 16 days.Born May 3, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Albert H. and Helen (Norris) Young. She was a 1954 graduate of Berwick High School, obtained her associate degree in business from Wilkes University and was a secretary for the Wise Potato Chip Co., Berwick, and for TRW, Danville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Berwick, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women, elder and clerk of the Session, church treasurer, Circle leader, choir member, Sunday school teacher and youth leader, member of the Berwick Rotary Ann's and Beta Sigma Phi and life member of the Berwick Hospital Center Ladies Auxiliary.

Frank A. Wallace, 87, of East State Street, Larksville, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born July 3, 1913, in Larksville, he was the son of the late Andrew and Monica Wolonsevicz. He was a graduate of the Law Enforcement Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Public Instruction, police sergeant in Larksville and a Pennsylvania state employee. He campaigned in the 1930s for the local Democratic Party members, was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature in 1952 and was a member of the Larksville Borough Council. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville, American Federal, State and Municipal Employees, Knights of Columbus, Larksville American Legion Post 655 and the Larksville Senior Citizens Committee.

Edward F. Dotter, of Gilligan Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Jan. 20, 1912, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Frank and Emma Wilbert Dotter. He resided in the Wilkes-Barre area his entire life and attended the city schools.
Before retiring, he was employed by the Hazard Wire & Rope Co., Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Parrish Street, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Roskowski Dotter; second wife, Nancy Altavilla Dotter; brothers, James and Fred Dotter.
Surviving are daughters, Ann Weiss, Lake Wallenpaupack; Barbara Morgan, Shavertown; sisters, Rose Dotter, Lillian Hinkley and Samantha Shranko, all of Wilkes-Barre; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Margaret "Peg" Fowler, 91, of Bodle Road, Wyoming, died Saturday in Highland Manor Nursing Center, Exeter.
Born Jan. 26, 1909, in Forty Fort, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Jessie Gettel Kresge. She attended Forty Fort schools and was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Fowler; brothers, Raymond and William Kresge; sisters, Catherine Roth, Irene Van Campen and Emma Huber.
Surviving are her son, William J. Miller, West Pittston; sister, Marion Kohler, Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Jackson Cox, of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Born Oct. 7, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Michael F. and Julia Custrin Denslow Hennighan. She was a graduate of Forest Port High School, New York. Before retiring, she was employed by the Rome Cable Corp., Rome, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marguerite Hennighan.
Surviving are her sisters, Mary Kerr, Athens, Ga.; Arline Hennighan, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Thomas Denslow, Boonville, N.Y.; one aunt and several nieces and nephews.

William Rutherford Hughes, 95, of Chase Manor, Chase, Jackson Township, died Friday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born July 16, 1905, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Richard and Annie Sarah Thomas Hughes. He was a graduate of Coughlin High School and attended the Wilkes-Barre Business School.
Before retiring, he was employed by the Lehigh & Wilkes-Barre Coal Co., Kingston Coal Co., Sordoni Construction Co., Bethlehem Steel Plant, Hotel Sterling, where he was a purchasing agent for 40 years, and Irem Temple Country Club.
He was a member of Dorranceton United Methodist Church, Kingston, where he served on the Official Board. He served as the auditor of Kingston, tax collector of Jackson Township and Judge of Elections and served on the Board of Directors of Chase Manor Water Association Inc. He was a 50-year member of the Kingston Lodge 395, F&AM, Keystone Consistory, Irem Temple and the Dallas Senior Citizens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary K. Hughes; daughter, Dorothy Carpenter; brothers, John, Alfred, Wendell and Clifton; sisters, Jennie Bennett and Margaret Curl; and two grandchildren.
Surviving are his daughter, Florence Sherwood, Chase; son, William Wayne Hughes, Chase; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with the Rev. Michael Willis officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dorranceton United Methodist Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Shriners Children's Hospitals.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Joseph Jr. and Barbara Gannon Hogan. He was a graduate of Bishop Hoban High School, class of 1999, and attended Johnson & Wales University, Providence, R.I., where he was majoring in culinary arts. He was a member of St. Vincent dePaul Church, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley F. Gannon, Suffern, N.Y.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are brothers, Joseph III and Geoffrey, both of Plymouth; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hogan Sr., Plymouth.
Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family from St. Vincent dePaul Church, Plymouth. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Larksville. Born May 17, 1937, in Mehoopany Township, Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ruth French Sands.
She and her family operated Millers General Store, Mehoopany, for 20 years. She was a technician at Procter & Gamble Co., retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Mehoopany Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Miller; brother, Donald Sands; and one granddaughter.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Donald R. Miller; sons, Michael R., Black Walnut; Richard G. and Terry L., both of Mehoopany; Ronald J., De Funiak Springs, Fla.; brothers, Raymond Sands, Mehoopany; Korah Sands, Falls; Gilbert Sands, Tunkhannock; Gary Sands, Haines City, Fla.; sisters, Ruth Ann Smith, Winter Haven, Fla.; Rosemary Shoemaker, Mehoopany; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
