Frank Stanovich Sr., of William Street, Plains Township, died Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Plains Township, he was a son of the late Platon and Elizabeth (Butko) Zdanovich. He attended Plains Township schools and was a 1934 graduate of Plains Memorial High School. He worked for Penn Refrigeration, Lee Park section of Hanover Township. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Panama for two years. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of sergeant, completed USMC Parachute Training and participated in the Pacific Theater Battles at Bougainville, Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands until his discharge in 1945. He was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Celia Flis; and sister, Irene Basarab.

Surviving are his son, Frank, Jr., Laurel Run; stepsister, Evelyn Pieck, Plains Township; stepbrother, Paul, Plains Township; two granddaughters, one grandson, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains Township, and 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, East Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, with the Very Rev. David Shewczyk officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. Parastas services will be at 8 p.m. this evening.

Harriet O. Throop, 83, of Albemarle, N.C., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at her home.

Monto, Leonard

Leonard G. Monto, 78, of Parkview Circle, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Adam and Margaret (Yantoski) Monto. He was a 1939 graduate of GAR High School. He worked at the Acme Bakery, Wilkes-Barre. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Benish, Emily

Emily Benish, 86, of Midtowne Apartments, Wyoming, died Wednesday at the Mercy Center, Dallas.

Born in Exeter, she was a daughter of the late John and Emma (Lipka) Shirko. She attended Exeter schools. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Wyoming, and the Midtowne Social Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and sister, Agnes Simko.

Surviving are her daughter, Doris Sorick, West Pittston; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brother, Albert Shirko, Meadows Nursing Home, Dallas; and sisters, Ann Novack, Tunkhannock; and Theresa Durkin, Emmaus.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in St. John's Slovak Cemetery, Exeter. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Burns, Dolores

Dolores "Honey" Burns, 88, formerly of West Elm Street, Hazleton, died Tuesday at the Inpatient Unit of Hospice VNA, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Rose (Hoffmeier) Sweeney. She was a graduate of the former St. Gabriel's High School and a 1934 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at the Hazleton State Hospital and private duty nurse throughout the greater Hazleton area. She was a member of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton, its Womens' Guild and was a regular volunteer for the parish's blood mobile drives. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen's Center, Hazleton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; brothers, John, Cletus, Thomas, Quentin and Donald Sweeney; and sisters, Winifred Gaffney and Dorothy Boyle.

Surviving are her daughters, Rose Cronk, Reading; and Mary Burns, Kingston; two grandchildren; brother, Martin Sweeney, North Plainfield, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the Boyle Funeral Home, 100 S. Wyoming St., Hazleton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of the VNA of Luzerne County.

Dobosh, Judith Ann
Sept. 13, 2000
Judith Ann Dobosh, of Pittston, has passed away in her sleep during the early morning hours on Sept. 13, 2000.

Judy loved movies, reading, research, bird watching, coin collecting, horticulture and crafts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Born in Scranton, she is survived by her husband, Stanley Dobosh; sisters, Lanore Kalinowski and Margaret Santostefano, both of New Jersey, and Joan Seize, Florida. Judy is also survived by and will continue to live through her seven children, Cynthia Sartorio, John Dobosh, Joseph Dobosh and Joanie Sarti, all of Pittston; Victor DeLazzari, Reading; Susan DeLazzari, Wyoming; and Michael Dobosh, Exeter. As her love with her husband created such beautiful lives, so have her children. Her spirit will also be carried through her nine grandchildren. Two more grandchildren are also on the way. Judith Ann Dobosh was a blessing to this earth and touched the lives of anyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. from Adonizio's Funeral Home, Inc., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston. Burial will follow at Pittston Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Drust, Robert

Robert J. Drust, 68, of Wyoming Street, Ashley, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Oct. 11, 1932, in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Rose (Sudol) Drust. He was a graduate of Edwardsville High School. He was a correctional officer for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas, Jackson Township, and was a driver for MotorWorld, formerly Ertley MotorWorld, Wilkes-Barre. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1951 to 1971 attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch. He was a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Alex, Edward J. and Eugene J.; and sister, Dolores Kovalchik.

Surviving are his wife, the former Bernadine Augustine; daughter, Patricia Ann Lukachinsky, Mountaintop; sons, Robert J., Jr., Newtown section of Hanover Township; Mark A. and David M., both of Ashley; and Brian, Lee Park section of Hanover Township; three grandchildren; brother, Francis "Frank," Edwardsville; sister, Rose Marie Best, Watchung, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the George A. Strish, Inc., Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1101 Hill St., Jessup, 18434.

Schadel, Scharmel
Sept. 12, 2000
Scharmel Schadel, 62, of Coal Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Summit Health Care Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born June 14, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Marie Sabol. She was a bookkeeper and taught arts and crafts to senior citizens through the Luzerne County Bureau of the Aging. She was a member of St. Joseph's Slovak Church, Wilkes-Barre, where she was a sexton.

Surviving are her husband, Robert L.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Slovak Church. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Hoban, Eleanor

Eleanor M. Hoban, 88, formerly of North Main Street, Pittston, died Tuesday at Highland Manor Nursing Home.

Born in Avoca, she was a daughter of the late James and Bridget (McAndrew) Mayock. She was a graduate of Avoca High School. She was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Surviving are her daughters, Anne Yarolin, Sunbury; Mary Eleanor Dziak, Pittston; three grandsons, one great-grandson; and sister, Anna Olsen, Wesley Village.

The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are by the Paul F. Leonard Funeral Home, 575 N. Main St., Pittston.

Anne D. (Merrigan) McDonough, 62, of RR 1, Laceyville, West Auburn section of Auburn Township, Susquehanna County, died Monday at her home.

Born April 21, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late William Patrick and Mary Louise (McNeill) Merrigan. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre, and graduate of College Misericordia, Dallas Township. She was a teacher in the Jersey City, New Jersey School System. She was a member of St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Meshoppen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P.; sisters, Mildred Agnello and Patricia Willoughby; and brother, William Jerome Merrigan.

Surviving are her sister, Ruth Conroy, Nanticoke; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Joachim's Cemetery, Meshoppen. Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville.

Miller, George

George Miller, 63, of Lopez, formerly of Towanda, died Wednesday in Clarks Summit.

Born April 6, 1937, in Murraytown, he was a son of the late Henry T., Sr., and Rosetta (Barnes) Miller. He attended local schools and the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, Lopez. He was a farmer. He attended and sang in the choir at the Methodist Church in Towanda.

Surviving are his brothers, Henry, Jr., Lopez; Edward, Mildred; and Willard T., New Jersey; sisters, Ilene M. Stephey, Sebring, Fla.; Edith Rohde, Elmira, N.Y.; and Minnie M., Philadelphia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Elkland Township. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Phillips, Daniel

Daniel W. Phillips, formerly of Plymouth Township, died Wednesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Feb. 7, 1920, in Plymouth Township, he was a son of the late George and Clara (Stubblebine) Phillips. He attended Harter High School, Plymouth Township. He worked at Willow Run Airport, Detroit~. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Irvin; and sisters, Carrie Hulsizer; and Rose Ann Smith.

Surviving are his sisters, Clara Norquest, Tennessee; Mildred Acosta, Orange County, Calif.; Ella Bonjo, Ashley; Dorothy Shymanski, Plymouth; Carrie Austin, Scranton; Louise Lee, Plymouth; and Nancy Otway, Plymouth Township; brothers, Thomas and Willard, both of Plymouth; nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are by the Williams Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth.

Saravitz Jr., Andrew

Andrew J. Saravitz Jr., 57, of Dimock, formerly of Meshoppen, died Monday at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre.

Born April 12, 1943, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Andrew J., Sr., and Millie (Kveragas) Saravitz. He was a 1961 graduate of Elk Lake High School, graduate of Lackawanna Junior College and attended the University of Toledo in Ohio, where he majored in business administration and accounting. He was an accountant, owned and operated a tax preparation service, Andy's Tax Service, Montrose, and the H & R Block franchise in Montrose. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and attained the rank of specialist fourth class, sergeant of the 188th Military Police Company. He received the Army Commendation Medal and medals for his sharp-shooting abilities.

He was a member of St. Joachim's Catholic Church, Meshoppen, and the American Legion Gardner-Warner Post 154, Montrose.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, the former Donna Adams; daughters, Andrea, Kimberly and Kristy, all at home; son, Andrew J., III, at home; sister, Diana Farr, Meshoppen; brothers, Mickey, Friendsville; and Alan, Auburn; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Bartron Funeral Home, Inc., 74 Church St., Montrose, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Auburn Township, Susquehanna County. The Rev. Manarchuck will officiate. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Rockville, Md., 20852.

John A. Cryan, 34, of Mehoopany, died Tuesday at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Born April 11, 1966, in Trenton, N.J., he was a son of Carol (Schmalback) O'Connell, Wilkes-Barre, and the late Jack Cryan. He was a machinist with the United Rehabilitation Services, Tunkhannock. He was active with the Special Olympics.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his brothers, Patrick T. O'Connell, Esquire, Bloomsburg; Timothy C. O'Connell, Morristown, N.J.; and Hugh C. O'Connell, Tacoma, Wash.

Francis J. "Art" Curry, 79, of Allentown, died Wednesday at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.Born Nov. 19, 1920, in Ashley, he was a son of the late Bryan and Helen (Grogan) Curry. He was an assembler for Mack Truck, Allentown, and worked at Roller Smith Co., Bethlehem. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, Allentown.

Janosik, 66, a resident of Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of 21st and Walnut Streets, Philadelphia, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Joseph M. and Pauline (Leginus) Janosik. She attended local schools, was a 1951 graduate of the former St. Ann's Academy, Wilkes-Barre, and graduated from Mercy Hospital, Wilkes~-Barre, as an x-ray technician. She was a secretary for the Electrical Association, Philadelphia, and an x-ray technician for the Baldwin Co., Philadelphia and locally for Dr. R.J. Kilhullen, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. John's Parish Community, North Wilkes-Barre.

Louise Ameible, 87, of RD 2 Wellsboro, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at the home of her niece, Virginia Crossley, where she has resided for the last eight years.

Born Dec., 29 1912, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Petrocelli) Ameible. She attended GAR High School. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Holy Rosary Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the Sacred Heart and Rosary Society.

Surviving, in addition to her niece, are her nephew, Tony Noble, Fayetteville, N.C.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from The Desiderio Funeral Home, Inc., 377 Park Ave, Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The Rosary will be recited during the calling hours on Sunday.

Arlene Burton, 68, a resident of the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Taylor, formerly of Olive Street, Scranton, died Sunday at the center.Born April 17, 1932, in Duryea, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Emma (Hollenback) Palmiter. She attended Moosic schools. She was a waitress for Saul's Restaurant, Scranton. She was a member of the Women's Club, Washington Plaza, and the Moosic Alliance Church, Moosic, and was a Democratic delegate.

Mildred A. (Vogt) Barry, 80, of Hedge Place, Kingston, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Amaliacq Vogt. She was residing with her daughter, Dr. Joan M. Coffin, formerly of Lower Gwynedd and East Lansdowne, when she died. She was a graduate of Lansdowne High School. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Lansdowne, and Order of the Eastern Star, Lansdowne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Master Sgt. Charles E. Barry.

Surviving, in addition to her daughter, are her daughter, Anita L. Boswell, Arnold, Md.; and three grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. Memorial donations may be made to King's College, 133 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre, 18711.

Dzury, John

John Dzury, 88, of Hazle Street, Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Sunday at his home.Born Feb. 8, 1912, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late George and Anna Dzury. He was a miner for the Glen Alden Coal Co. in the South Wilkes-Barre Colliery, worked for the Prestige Shoe Co., Wilkes-Barre, and was a handyman in the area. He attended St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre. He was the first commissioner of the Ashley-Newtown Little League.
