Antoinette D. Krysiewski, of North Landon Avenue, Kingston, died Tuesday at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.

Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of Anna (Sharkus) Yanklunas, Kingston, and the late Anthony T. Yanklunas. She was a 1964 graduate of Kingston High School. She worked for the Disability Bureau of the State of Pennsylvania. She was a member of St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Kingston, and the West Side Junior Women's Club.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Stephen B.; daughters, Beth Pucilowski, Marsha and Amy, all of Kingston; and Karen, King of Prussia; sisters, Ann Marie Brominski, Moosic; and Peggy Yanklunas, Kingston; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Annunciation Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The family requests that blood or platelets be donated to the American Red Cross in Antoinette's name.

Lewis Jr., Samuel
Oct. 4, 2000
Samuel Lewis Jr., 71, of Parrish Street, Plymouth, died Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Oct. 20, 1928, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Samuel, Sr., and Helen (Klimchak) Lewis. He was a 1944 graduate of Plymouth High School. He was a road manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and a intermediate school bus driver for the Luzerne Intermediate Unit.

He was involved with the Democratic Party of Plymouth Borough and Luzerne County and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1976.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, stationed in Korea. While in service, he worked on the Great Lakes. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainan Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1425, American Legion Post 463 and the Lettermans Club, all of Plymouth.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Myron "Legs."

Surviving are his brother, Robert J., Kingston; sister, Dorothy Nemshick, Old Bridge, N.J.; three nephews, one niece, one grandniece and one grandnephew.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Plymouth Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Parastas services will be held Sunday afternoon. Memorial donations may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund, Plymouth; or to the Luzerne Intermediate Unit, Kingston.

Licata, Louise

Louise Licata, 69, of East Saylor Avenue, Plains Township, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died Wednesday at the Mercy Hospice at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.Born July 26, 1931, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Miglarese) Gallo. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Roman Catholic Church, Laflin.

Pence, Helenmary

Helenmary A. Pence, 80, of New Castle, Del., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Manor Care, Pike Creek, Del.

She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Gertrude Duganne. She was a physical education teacher in Wilmington, Del., and Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, New Castle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Peter.

Surviving are her sons, Peter and Charles, both of New Castle; Ted, Newport, Del.; and Joseph, Wilmington; daughters, Trudy Rivera, Pine Valley, Calif.; and Helen Leeson, Annapolis, Md.; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; and sister, Trudy Bove, Clementon, N.J.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 12 Winder Road, New Castle. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 34 W. Sixth St., New Castle. Memorial donations or Mass cards may be made to Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church.

Rozanski, Peter

Peter "Cy" Rozanski, 87, of Main Road, Buttonwood section of Hanover Township, died Tuesday at home.Born Jan. 26, 1913, in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Anthony and Anna (Wujcik) Rozanski. He was a graduate of Hanover Township High School. He operated Cy's Poolroom, Buttonwood. He was a semi-professional baseball player throughout Wyoming Valley during the 1930s and 1940s. He was a member of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood.

Samuels, Helen

Helen N. (Namey) Samuels, 92, of West Deptford, N.J., formerly of Sarasota, Fla., died Monday at the John F. Kennedy Hospital, Washington Township, N.J.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre. She was a sales representative for the Spice Island Co., San Francisco.

Surviving are her daughters, Marian Rushton, West Deptford; June Hageal, Wilkes-Barre; and Norma K., Fairfax, Va.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Mariam Ofiesh, Beverly, Mass.; and brothers, Abe Namey, Sarasota; and Thomas Namey, North Carolina.

The viewing, services and interment will be private. Arrangements are by the McGuinness Funeral Homes, Woodbury, Washington Township and Runnemede, N.J.

Todd "Huck" Smith, of Coal Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Jan. 2, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Zendzan) Smith. He attended Wilkes-Barre Township schools. He was a roofer, sider and carpenter with various contractors in the area and worked at Harte and Co., Mountaintop. He was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the former Civilian Conservation Corps and social member of American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Frances Stempohowski; brothers, Stanley and John; and sisters, Kathryn Uniatowski, Anna Albright and Bridget Shedlock.

Surviving are his sons, Todd L., State Line; and Michael, Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Sandra Jackson, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; eight grandchildren; brothers, George, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and Joseph, Omaha, Neb.; and sisters, Mary Stewart and Wanda Gumienny, both of Wilkes-Barre.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Requiem Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church. The Very Rev. Thaddeus Dymkowski will officiate. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. A Wake service will be at 2:30 p.m. today.

Wojtowicz, Stanley

Stanley M. Wojtowicz, 78, of Charles Street, Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Tuesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.Born Dec. 9, 1921, in Plymouth, he was a son of the late John and Eva (Mazur) Voitovicz. He was a 1939 graduate of Plymouth High School. He worked for the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Clarks Summit State Hospital and White Haven State Hospital in maintenance. He was a career serviceman in the U.S. Air Force in the Pacific Theater of War for 21 years, from April 16, 1940, to April 1, 1961. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with a clasp and the Victory Medal. He was a U.S. Army staff sergeant with the 484th Bomber Squadron in the Titian Islands.

Martin, Marilyn

Marilyn E. Martin, 70, of East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at her residence.

Born July 7, 1930, in the Port Griffith section of Jenkins Township, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Gertrude (Fredericks) O'Rourke.

She was a graduate of the West Pittston High School. She was a seamstress in various sewing factories in the Wilkes-Barre area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; and daughter, Elizabeth.

Surviving are her sons, Michael K., Wilkes-Barre; Frank J., Jr., West Wyoming; and John P., Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the John V. Morris-Charles J. Leagus Funeral Home, 281 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Rittenhouse, Amanda Jo

Amanda Jo Rittenhouse, 19, of Kingston, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born June 1, 1981, in Kingston, she was a daughter of Donald "Peanut" Rittenhouse, with whom she resided, and the late Shirley (Johns) Rittenhouse.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Gerald "Judd" Rittenhouse; and maternal grandparents, Howard and Jennie Johns.

Surviving, in addition to her father, are her sisters, Traci and Terri, both at home; paternal grandmother, Rita, Plymouth; one nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. The Rev. Bonnie McGraw will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

May Barber, Anna

Anna May Barber, of Sand Bank Road, Tunkhannock, died Thursday at the Carpenter Care Center, Tunkhannock.

Born Nov. 22, 1902, in Center Moreland, she was the daughter of the late William and Electa Wildrick. She was a member of the Tunkhannock Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; son, Malcolm; and daughter, Gertrude E. Murphy.

Surviving are 10 grandchildren and numerous ~great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Tunkhannock Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Rick Wormer officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family~. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are by the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.

Angelo "Arky" Ferrara, 87, of Elizabeth Street, Pittston, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born Aug. 12, 1913, in Pittston, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Intorre) Ferrara. He was a local building contractor. He was a member of St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church and San Cataldo Society, both of Pittston; and the Building Contractors Association, Wilkes-Barre.

Major, Kathryn

Kathryn (Evans) Major, 96, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Sept. 3 at the Boward Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fort Lauderdale.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late William and Harriett Evans.

She was a graduate of Bloomsburg State College and received a master's degree from New Britain College, New Britain, Conn. She taught school in Wilkes-Barre, East Hartford and Glastonbury, Conn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, Sr.; son, Charles; brothers, Thomas, Earl and Joseph; and sister, Gwen Smith, Maryland.

Surviving are her son, William, Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Spear, Kingston; and many nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services and interment were held in Hartford. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill, Conn. Arrangements were by the Rose Hill Funeral Home, Rocky Hill, Conn.

Zendzion Jr., Stanley

Stanley "Butchie" Zendzion Jr., 58, of Plains Township, died Thursday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was a son of the late Stanley, Sr., and Bessie (Searfoss) Zenzion. He attended Wilkes-Barre Area schools. He was a driller for many area contractors, including Slusser Brothers, Honesdale. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon Post 558 and the Marine Corps League, Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his son, Butchie; and brother, Thomas.

Surviving are his wife, the former Wanda Kempka; sons, Tommy, Gales Ferry, Conn.; and Robert, Plains Township; daughters, Lisa Bednarski, Larksville; Stephanie Duncan, Pittston; and Jessica Zendzion, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; brother, David, Exeter; sisters, Catherine Olson and Judy Jordan, both of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.

A military funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Plains American Legion, 101 E. Carey St., Plains Township, 18705.

Anna Bartush, of Butler Street, Pittston, formerly of Avoca and Dupont, died Thursday at home.

Born in Dupont, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Mascribzuch) Casper. She attended the Dupont public schools. She worked at Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston and Moosic. She was a member of St. Peter's and Paul's Church, Avoca.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, Sr.; son, John, Jr.; infant daughter; sisters, Regina O'Hara, Nell Jones and Frances Krawiec; and brothers, Henry, John, Jr., Daniel and Robert Casper.

Surviving are her daughters, Mary Ann Ruane, with whom she resided; and Barbara Vitale, Pittston; son, Joseph, Pittston; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa Kuchinski and Mary Waskiewicz, both of Dupont; and Evelyn Pollard, Chicago; and brother, Joseph Casper, Avoca.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Adonizio Funeral Home, Inc., 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter's and Paul's Church. Thomas "Cookie" Cook, of Green Street, Edwardsville, formerly of the Wilkes-Barre area, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Aug. 24, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Stephen and Anna (Gronauer) Cook. He attended the James M. Coughlin High School. He worked for the Lion Brewery, Inc., Wilkes-Barre, and was a security guard for Wilkes University. He was a member of the Bennett Derr United Methodist Church, Plains Township.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Stephen, Joseph, Anthony and John; and sister, Ann.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Fanny Harrison; sons, Thomas, Jr., Exeter; Raymond, Edwardsville; and Stephen, Plains Township; daughters, Judi Cocco, Dupont; Florence Teixeira, Exeter; and Catherine Hughes, Pittston; 21 grandchildren, one great-grandson; sisters, Margaret Kern, Wilkes-Barre; and Dorothy Czyzewicz, Hanover Township; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Craig Gommer officiating. Interment will be in Kocher Cemetery, Harveys Lake~. Mark Anthony Carter, 22, of Boulevard Town House, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in Edwardsville.

Born Dec. 15, 1977, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Joseph "Joel" Boatman and Denise Carter, both of Wilkes-Barre. He attended GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, where he was on the track team. He held various employment throughout Wyoming valley.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Soloman and Emma Boatman.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his sons, Tyler Alexander and Mark Anthony, Jr., both of Dallas; daughter, Maya Rose, Dallas; brothers, Troy Alexander and Andrew Dane, both of Wilkes-Barre; and Joel Boatman Jr., East Orange, N.J.; sisters, Autumn Marie Boatman, Ocala, Fla.; Sherry Boatman and Dana Searight, both of New Brunswick, N.J.; Polica Powell, Atlanta; and Ann Shree Webb, Paterson, N.J.; maternal grandparents, Hattie and James Henry Carter, Wilkes-Barre, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Homegoing Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 105 Hill St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. George H. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. Arrangements are by the John V. Morris-Charles J. Leagus Funeral Home, 281 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre.

M. Consuella Kirsch, Sister

Sister M. Consuella Kirsch, RSM, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died Wednesday at Mercy Center, Dallas.The former Geraldine Kirsch was born Aug. 16, 1911, in Nicktown, a daughter of the late Andrew and Amelia (Ager) Kirsch. She was a 1928 graduate of Barnesboro High School and earned a bachelor's degree from College Misericordia. She entered the Sisters of Mercy Aug. 15, 1929, and pronounced her first vows March 12, 1932. She taught in elementary schools in the dioceses of Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Altoona-Johnstown and was the principal of St. Patrick's School, Newry. She was the treasurer of Mount Aloysius College and archivist for the Sisters of Mercy, both of Cresson. She joined the Prayer Ministry at Mercy Center, Dallas.

Helen (Kline) Baker, 89, of Main Street, Benton, died Friday at the Bonham Nursing Center, Register.

Born Dec. 31, 1910, in Rohrsburg, Greenwood Township, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Grace (Parker) Kline.

She was a 1928 graduate of Millville High School.

She assisted her husband in the operation of the Edgar R. Baker General Store, Talmar.

She was a member the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Talmar, and the Order of the Eastern Star, and a volunteer with the ladies auxiliary at Bloomsburg Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, the Rev. Edgar R. Baker; sister, Mary Kline Johnson; and brother, John Albert Kline.

Surviving are her sons, Glen R., Severna Park, Md.; and Wayne K., Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the McMichael Funeral Home, 4394 Red Rock Road, Route 487, Benton, with the Rev. Brad Spangenberg officiating.

Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Talmar.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday.
