Lillian R. Ellis, 77, of Fairless Hills, died Tuesday at the Doylestown Hospital.
Born April 21, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Rose (Romanaukas) Rood. She owned and operated the Golden Day Care Center, Levittown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; and sisters; Dottie Murray and Viola Dougherty.
Surviving are her sons, Mic~hael, Nanticoke; and George, Hollywood, Fla.; daughters, MaryAnn, Yardley; Joanne Dobson, Fairless Hills; Carolyn Mark, Plantation, Fla.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Mahle, Meeker; Lois Shaughnessy, Milford, Conn.; and Alice Cupryzinski, Hanover Township.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, Route 29, Lake Silkworth. Interment will be in the Bloomingdale Cemetery, Ross Township. There will be no calling hours. Aldo J. Mattiucci, 68, of Stark Street, Hudson section of Plains Township, died Wednesday at the Hospice Community Care section of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Hudson, he was a son of the former Lucy (Caporali) Mattiucci, with whom he resided, and the late John Mattiucci. He was a 1949 graduate of Plains Memorial High School and graduate of King's College, Wilkes-Barre. He was a material cutter for Leslie Faye, Inc., Plains Township. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Wilkes-Barre Local.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul; and sister, Elda.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one niece, one great-niece and one great-nephew.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Hudson, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. There will be a private family viewing from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening. Friends are welcome to come to the church on Friday morning.

Dorothy G. Powell, 69, of Fairview Township, died Wednesday at her home.
Born July 28, 1931, in Rice Township, she was a daughter of the late George and Sophia Gasper. She was a graduate of Fairview High School. She was an assembly worker at the former RCA factory at the Crestwood Industrial Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sister, Betty; and brothers, George and John.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Maciejaszek, Hunlock Creek; Nancy Davenport, Bloomsburg; Sharon Hess, Mountaintop; and Gwendolyn Watkins, Jefferson, Maine; five grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Ritts, Wilkes-Barre; Emily Baron, Nanticoke; Mary Wanta and Anna Roskowski, both of Florida; and brothers, Thomas Gasper, New Jersey; Walter, Donald and Robert Gasper, all of Mountaintop.

Mildred R. Scioscia, 87, of RR 3 Moscow, died Wednesday at home.
Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Old Forge, she was a daughter of the late Teofial and Dorothea (Affalt) Gromelsky. She attended Old Forge schools. She was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Old Forge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gabriel; son, Karl; and brothers, John, Charles and Joseph; and sisters, Theresa and Helen Gromelski and Martha Dopko.
Surviving are her sons, Paul, at home; Stanley, Danville, Calif.; and Frank, Old Forge; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sister, Frances Peperno, Old Forge; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Joseph F. Sullivan, 78, of Lawrenceville, N.J., died Sunday at home.
Born in Larksville, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Hoagan) Sullivan. He was a 1940 graduate of Larksville High School, where he was involved in athletics. He was also a graduate of the Rising Sun School of Aeronautics, Philadelphia. He was an executive industrial engineer from Circle F Industries and sales representative for Cathcart Pontiac. He was an Eagle Scout, member of the Larksville Sons of the American Legion and St. James Holy Name Society.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Jr.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Grace (Corti) LoCurto; daughter, Sarah Anne Nystrom, Trenton, N.J., son, Frank M., Janesville, Wis.; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many other relatives.

Zak, 87, of North Franklin Street, North End Section of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at her residence.Born March 11, 1913, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Baran) Koval. She was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre. She worked for the Duplan Silk Mill, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. John's Parish Community, North Wilkes-Barre, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was the lodge secretary for the Slovak Ladies Catholic Union. She and her husband of 63 years, Joseph A., were active in the Democratic Party. She was a committee woman in Wilkes-Barre.

Helen L. (Rudaitis) Brown, a resident of B'Nai B'rith Apartments, East Northampton Street, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of South Meade Street, Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at Dorrance Manor, Kingston.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Constantine and Pauline (Masis) Rudaitis. She attended Wilkes-Barre City schools and was a graduate of Beautician's School. She owned and operated the Helen L. Brown Beauty Salon in the former Second National Bank Building, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre, and its Christian Mothers, and member of the Beautician's Association and the Lithuanian Woman's Club.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Caston Rudaitis; and sister; Anna Yeraska.
Surviving are her sister, Frances Rozanski, Wilkes-Barre; and two nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the John V. Morris-Charles J. Leagus Funeral Home, 281 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Theodore L. Obaza will officiate. P. Joseph Gibson, 64, of Great Falls, Va., formerly of Mountain Lakes, N.J., died Wednesday at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Mildred and Joseph Gibson. He was a 1954 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, attended Scranton University and the University of Detroit, where he earned his bachelor of electrical engineering degree in 1959. He earned a master's of electrical engineering degree from New York University and a master's of business administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was an electrical engineer at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill, N.J., worked for Data Trends, developed the first electronic ticker-tape for the New York Stock Exchange, held executive positions in data communications at ITT, First National Bank of Chicago and Computer Science Corporation, where he worked on the data communication system for NASA's space station. He completed the New York Marathon twice.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia; children, Ellen McGinnis, Baltimore; Robert, Vienna, Va.; P. Joseph, Jr., Indianapolis; Jay, Santa Monica, Calif.; Erin Roth, London, England; James, Alexandria, Va.; and Eileen, Los Angles; 11 grandchildren; and brother, Robert.

Eleanor Jean "Deanie" Harvey, 77, of Dymond Terrace, Tunkhannock, died Thursday at her home.
Born May 20, 1923, in Tunkhannock, she was a daughter of the late Glen C. and Grace (Allen) Phillips. She was a clerk at Henry's Drug Store and lab technician at Sire Power. She was of the Protestant faith and was a volunteer at the Wyoming County Fair.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin; and brother, Harold Phillips.
Surviving are her daughter, Elaine "Pinky" Browning, Tunkhannock; son, Irvin "Buddy," Tunkhannock; three grandchildren; sisters, Elaine LaFrance, Meshoppen; and Doris Shotwell, Tunkhannock; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Robert Hooper officiating. Joseph F. Karaffa Sr., 78, of Plains Township, died Thursday at Moses-Taylor ~Hospital, Scranton.
Born in the Port Griffith section of Jenkins Township, he was a son of the late Andrew, Sr., and Anna (Begosh) Karaffa. He attended schools in the Pittston school system. He worked in the area mines, was a maintenance man for J.B. Post and was self-employed in construction. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township, and Plains Volunteer Ambulance Association, where he was a driver.
He was preceded in death by his brother Frank.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Genevieve Stachurski; daughter, Bernadine Burnett, Plains Township; son, Joseph, Jr., Plains Township; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew, Jr., Westminster; sisters, Marion Krawietz, Trucksville section of Kingston Township; and Doris Donnora; and several nieces and nephews.

Ebelena "Pat" Linta, 82, of White Haven, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Buena Vista, Carbon County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Ebelena (McCormick) Dotter. She was an aid for the White Haven Center and waitress at various resorts in the Poconos. She and her late husband, Stanley, owned and operated a ski and gift shop in the Lake Harmony area. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, White Haven, its WELCA group, White Haven Senior Citizens and the Pennsylvania State Employee Retirement Association.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley Dotter; and sister, Pearl Kocher.
Surviving are her sister, Thelma Spaziani, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, White Haven, with the Rev. Michele Kaufman officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Cemetery, White Haven. Theodore J. Luczak, 81, of Honey Pot Street, Nanticoke, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 3, 1919, in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia Naklicki. He worked at the Wanamie Colliery and other companies in the coal industry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Nanticoke, American Legion Post 350 and the Union Mine Workers of America and social member of the Honey Post Fire Company.
He was preceded in death by his twin sons, James and John; and sister, Pearl Meck.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Brodowicz; sons, Theodore, Jr. and Robert, both of Nanticoke; daughters, Marie Tedesco and Janet Yezefski, both of Nanticoke; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Joseph, Nanticoke.
The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. George Malesky, of Henderson Street, Plymouth, died Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Exeter. He attended Exeter schools. He was a miner at the Wanamie Colliery. He was a member of St. Casimir's Church, Lyndwood section of Hanover Township.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Meskines; sisters, Della Calahan, Mary, Agnes and Martha Malesky and Aldona Lokaitis; brothers, Joseph and Anthony Malesky and Andrew Lokaitis.
Surviving are her sons, George, Jr., Warminster; Paul, Tunkhannock; and David, Larksville; three grandchildren; brothers, Albert, Spain; and Charles Lokaitis, Houston; and sisters, Ann Janovitch, Kingston; Eleanor Wanyo, Larksville; and Margaret Lukas, Thompsonville, Conn.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Piszczek Funeral Home, 70 E. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. r. Merle J. Pope Sr., of Warden Avenue, Trucksville, died early Thursday morning at his home following an illness.
Born on July 14, 1913, in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Evans) Pope. He graduated from Luzerne High School. He graduated from Mansfield Normal School and from Wilkes College with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. He played college football and college baseball at Mansfield. He played several years for the Luzerne Reds and was drafted by Boston Braves. He served in the U.S. Airforce during World War II and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Pope had resided in Trucksville for the past 40 years. Prior to his retirement in 1978, he was a school teacher for 43 1/2 years in the public schools of Wyoming Valley. He taught school at Pringle, Courtdale, Luzerne and Forty Fort. He served as principal and as a head teacher at Charles Street and Durkee Street Schools. Active in the athletic departments at the schools, he served as baseball coach.
Preceding him in death are his brothers, Archibald, Charles, Earl and Willard Pope; and sisters, Gladys Brown and Pearl Gilbert.
Mr. Pope was a member of Bennett Presbyterian Church, Luzerne, Valley West Educational Association, PSEA, and NEA. He was also a member of the American Legion Luzerne Post 525. He supervised the Luzerne Playground systems for several years.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Marion (Randall) Pope; daughter, Dianne "Dee Dee," and son-in-law, Russell Hoover, Shavertown; son, M. Jay and daughter-in-law, Donna Pope, Dallas; sister, Mrs. Thelma Turpin, Luzerne; three grandchildren, Rebecca Amy Hoover, Justin Randall Hoover and Jayson John Pope, nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Monday at 11 a.m. from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with Rev. James Quinn and Rev. Louis Falcone officiating. Nick Ugliuzza 88, of Wyalusing RR 3, Pike Township, formerly of Pittston, died Thursday at the Wyalusing Valley Personal Care Home, Wyalusing.
Born Sept. 28, 1912, in Pittston, he was a son of the late Luigi and Catherine (Montione) Ugliuzza. He owned and operated a dairy farm and egg business with his late brother, James, in Pike Township. He was active in civic and community affairs in Le Raysville, helped create the minstrel shows in Le Raysville, which supported the community hall there. He was a charter member and president of the Le Raysville-Pike Volunteer Fire Co. and active in the LeRaysville Grange. He served on the Le Raysville board of directors of the County National Bank of Montrose and the board of directors of the Farmers National Bank, Rome.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anne Marie Petix; brothers, James, Charles and Sam; and sisters, Rose Falcone, Nellie Costanzo and Mary.
Surviving are his son, Louis C., Stevensville RR I; two grandsons; sister, Pauline, Wyalusing RR 3; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Maureen Hipple officiating. She was a 1930 graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. She worked for the Wilkes-Barre Lace Mill. She was a member of St. Leo's Church, Ashley, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Five Points Senior Citizens, East End section of Wilkes-Barre and vice president of St. Leo's High School PTA in 1950.

Clementine "Queenie" Adonizio, of William Street, Pittston, died Friday at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township.
Born and raised in the Old Boston section of Jenkins Township, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Nardone Adonizio. She resided in Pittston all of her life and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine and Mary; brothers, Dr. John, Dr. Charles and Louis Adonizio; and James "Half" Gennaro.
Surviving are her brother, Joseph, California; three nephews and a niece.

Born Oct. 30, 1976, at Guantanamo Bay Naval Station, he was the son of Walter H. and Donna Marie Williams Barber. He was employed as a welder for Prebola Enterprises, Wyoming.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a son, Xavier; daughter, Kahla; fiance, Janeen Seitz; brother, Walter R., California; grandmother, Phylis Smith, Maine; grandfather, Stewart Williams, California; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Thomas and Helen Kupienewicz Burgas. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. He was last employed at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Anthony and Benjamin Kuprionas.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Cecile Antonoff; and sister, Louise Gillis, Nanticoke.
