Gayle Jacobson Friebis, 59, a resident of Sewell, Mantua Township, N.J., and formerly of Wilkes-Barre and Penn Lake Park, died Oct. 15 in Jefferson Underwood Memorial Hospital, Woodbury, N.J., shortly after admission. She was in ill health for some time.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of Edward H. Jacobson, of Wilkes-Barre, retired administrative deputy fire chief for the city, and the late Dorothy Richards Jacobson. She was a graduate of GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre.
She worked for an import/export firm in Philadelphia for some time and was later employed by the Temple University Health Service, Philadelphia, for several years. She moved to Pitman, N.J., after marriage.
She received a bachelor of arts degree in education and later a masters degree in library science/special media from Glassboro State College, New Jersey. She taught with the Quaker Friends School System, South New Jersey. She taught in several Gloucester County, N.J., schools before retiring in 1996 due to ill health.
She was an active member of the Pitman United Methodist Church and was a member of several professional teaching organizations.
She was preceded in death
by her sister, Carol Ann Fiorucci.
Surviving, in addition to her father, are her husband of more than 30 years, George E. Friebis, at home; daughter, Karen Anderson, Mantua; son, Jason E. Friebis, Kingsland, Ga.; four grandchildren; and a niece.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Peter Kuritz, of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Goldstein, Lemuel

Lemuel Caro Goldstein, 48, of Holiday Lake Estates, Fla., and formerly of Plains Township, died Wednesday at his home.
Born Dec. 28, 1951, in Cold Spring, N.Y., he was the son of Eleanor (Calderone) Goldstein, of Dunedin, Fla., and the late Astur Goldstein. He was educated in the Putnam Valley public school system and graduated from Lakeland High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He was formerly employed by William W. Davis Inc., Wilkes-Barre, as a painter. He was a member of the Local Painters Union and a former member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, both of Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are daughters, Christy Ann Goldstein, Maryland; Larissa Goldstein, Plains Township; brothers, Robert Cartalucca, Minnesota; Allan, William and Walter Goldstein, all of Florida; sister, Michelle Goldstein, Florida; significant other, Roberta Ricardo Schloemer, of Plains Township, with whom he formerly resided; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Military funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home Inc., 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with Requiem Services at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, with Archpriest Joseph Martin officiating. Interment will be in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Parastas services will be at 8 p.m., with Archpriest Martin officiating. Martha T. Honnis, of South Sherman Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born July 18, 1916, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Wendolowski Savitski. She was a life resident of Wilkes-Barre and attended the city schools.
She worked for many years as a machine operator at the Penn State Belt and Buckle, Wilkes-Barre Township. She was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Maternity, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; infant daughter, Geraldine; sisters, Anna Savitski and Harriet Orowicz; brothers, Leo, Stanley and Barney Savitski and Frank Bass.
Surviving are her daughter, Elaine Honnis, with whom she resided; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Maternity. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Olga (Krupsha) Hunter, 72, of Ashley, died Friday in the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Care of the VNA at the Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Oct. 17, 1928, in Lehman Township, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Veronica Motsko Krupsha. She formerly resided in Plains Township for many years.
She was formerly employed in the local garment industry and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was also a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, and the Christian Mother's Society of St. Joseph's Church, Hudson, Plains Township.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Michael, George and John Krupsha; sisters, Helen Krupsha, Mary Kunec, Ceil Alber and Margaret Hilchanski.
Surviving are her son, Joseph Emerick, Harding; daughter, Donna O'Neill, Ashley; brother, Andrew Krupsha, Arizona; sister, Ann Mitchell, Texas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. LeRoy Jones, of Prevost Road, Tunkhannock, and formerly of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Greenly's Personal Care Home, Thurston Hollow, Tunkhannock.
Born June 7, 1905, in Parsons, he was the son of the late William M. and Annie Lewis Jones.
Before retiring, he was employed at Carriage Plant, Wilkes-Barre, and later as a route salesman for Dairylea Dairy, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the Parsons Welsh Baptist Church, Parsons, and the Russell Hill United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Yale Jones; and one grandson.
Surviving are his son, LeRoy C. Jones, Wilkes-Barre; daughters, Esther Prevost and Evelyn Kanyok, both of Tunkhannock; Phyllis Antos, Dallas; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary Claire Lane, 90, a guest of the Cedar Brook Fountain Hill Nursing Home, Bethlehem, and formerly of Phillip Street, Whitehall, died Friday at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 8, 1910, in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Annetta Johnson Butler. She was educated in the Old Forge schools. She moved from Simi Valley, Calif., to Whitehall in 1987 and settled at the nursing home more than four years ago.
She was an inspector for the former L.F. Grammers Co., Old Forge. She was a member of the Lehigh Valley Senior Citizens Center, the Westminster Adult Center and the Lawrenceville Primitive Methodist Church, Old Forge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lane; daughter, Joan Eskra; brothers, Henry and Andrew Gaylets; Alfred Butler; sisters, Catherine Marianelli and Agnes Casper; and one grandchild.
Surviving are her daughters, Mildred Thorne, Old Forge; Lorraine Sekol, with whom she formerly resided in Whitehall; brother, Thomas Gaylets, Old Forge; sisters, Annetta Coolbaugh, Duryea; Elizabeth Snedecor, Tuckerton, N.J.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Leo L. Lasecki, 83, of Perry Street, Hanover section of Nanticoke, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born July 24, 1917, in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Adam and Eva Spczphalski Lasecki. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed at Ford Motor Co. in New Jersey before retiring. He was a member of St. Francis Church, Nanticoke, and the American Legion Post 350.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Dula; daughter, Anna; sister, Victoria Kravitz; and 10 other brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his sister, Frances Puzio, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Martha Sromoski, formerly of Metcalf Street, Wilkes-Barre Township, died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Minneapolis, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Pauline Hussar Drozda. She moved to Wilkes-Barre Township as a child, where she resided for most of her life. She attended the township schools and was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School.
She was employed in the garment industry, retiring about 25 years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew; brothers, the Rev. John Drozda and William Drozda; sisters, Anne Pelczar, Mary Shinal and Rita Roberts.
Surviving are her son, Frank, Wilkes-Barre; brothers, Ellis Drozda, Wilkes-Barre; Theodore Drozda, Wilkes-Barre Township; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Anna Zack, 98, of Laflin, died Friday at the Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Laflin, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Rowker. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughters, Mary Morriken and Helen Hornick; and brothers, Stephen, Frank, Michael and Peter.
Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Stachurski, with whom she resided in Laflin; and Irene Dillon, Inkerman section of Jenkins Township; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Neil A. Mosteller Jr., 79, of Pittston, died Saturday at Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Jan. 30, 1921, in Berwick, he was the son of the late Neil Sr. and Blanch (Sterner) Mosteller. He graduated from Meyers High School and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He retired from Sears & Roebuck as a salesman in 1982.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor F. Scott Mosteller.
Surviving are his son, Wayne Mosteller, Plymouth; daughters, Gale Craig, Wilkes-Barre; Judy Mosteller, Pittston; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a niece.

Popple, Anthony

Anthony M. Popple, 83, of Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, died Thursday at Lackawanna County Health Care Center after a long illness.
Born July 18, 1917, in Old Boston, Jenkins Township, he was the son of the late Alex and Josephine Colarusso Popple. He was a 1936 graduate of West Pittston High School.
He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot after 33 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a past president and vice president of N.A.R.F.E. and was a volunteer for the West Pittston Recreation Board.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Argenio; and a granddaughter.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Howarth Popple; daughters, Karen Weed, Toni Joy Granteed and Anita Bohn, all of West Pittston; brother, Joseph Popple, Virginia; sisters, Ida Rowe, Helen Battle and Mary Argenio, all of West Pittston; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services and interment were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were by Recupero Funeral Home, West Pittston.

Marjorie F. Scott, 88, formerly of the East End section of Wilkes-Barre and North Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday in Valley Crest, Plains Township, where she was a guest since 1994.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emma Meade Garrison. She attended the Wilkes-Barre city schools.
She was a salesperson at the former Isaac Long and Lazarus department stores, Wilkes-Barre, for several years. She was a life resident of the East End and North End sections of Wilkes-Barre and was a member of the former Derr Memorial United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 53 years, John W. Scott; and sister, Thelma Fitzgerald.
Surviving are her daughter, Lynda Galardi, Nanticoke; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Norman Beck, of First Primitive Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Madalyn T. Mayerski, 58, of Hoyt Street, Pringle, died Saturday at the Northeast Health and Hospice Care at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Larksville, she was the daughter of Mary Kovach Podolak and the late Nicholas Podolak. She was a graduate of West Side Central High School, Kingston, class of 1959, and attended King's College.
She was employed as an administrative assistant at Hampton House, Hanover Township, and resided in Pringle most of her life. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Larksville, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Christian Ladies Society, Rosary Society and choir.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Joseph; sons, Joseph P., Pringle; Michael A., Yatesville; daughters, Sharon M. Reino, Luzerne; Linda A. Sickler, West Wyoming; Sandra L., at home; brother, Paul Podolak, Pringle; sister, Patricia Jones, Kingston; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Lillian (Walker) Duffy, 78, of Third Avenue, Kingston, died Sunday at the Hospice Community Care Unit, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, after an illness.
Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Grace (Marsit) Walker.
She was a graduate of Hazleton High School and the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from College Misericordia, Dallas.
She was an instructor at Wilkes College and taught nursing at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where she also worked as a registered nurse.
She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Walker, Mildred Dorse, Verna Chirico and Katherine Becker.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Patrick J.; son, James P., Williamsport; daughter, Mary Grace Duffy, Arlington, Mass.; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Chapel, Kingston.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
