Rose Nachlis, 99, a resident at the Jewish Home of Northeast Pennsylvania, Scranton, died there Thursday.
Born in Russia, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Gevanthor. She and her late husband, Charles, owned and operated Nachlis Grocery Store, Plains Township. She was a member of Ohav Zedek Synagogue, Wilkes-Barre, formerly United Orthodox Synagogue, Talmud Torah and numerous other religious and civic organizations.
Surviving are her sons, Arnold, Wilkes-Barre; and Harry, Laflin; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A Graveside funeral service and interment were held Friday afternoon in B'Nai Jacob Cemetery, with Rabbi Meir Rosenberg officiating. Funeral arrangements were by the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre. Shiva will be observed at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Nachlis, 122 New Alexander St., Wilkes-Barre, from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday, afternoons only.

Ruth (Davies) Jones, 88, of Bradenton, Fla., died Oct. 21 at Surrey Place, Bradenton.
She was born Aug. 12, 1912, in Wilkes-Barre. She was a nursing supervisor at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W.
Surviving are her daughter, Betsy Jones Wade; and sister, Marion, Dallas.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later time in Bradenton. Arrangements were by the At Peace Cremation Service, Sarasota, Fla.

Alexander Kania, of Beverly Drive, Edwardsville, formerly of Connecticut, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Luzerne. He worked for American Asphalt.
Surviving are his son, Richard David, Conn.; daughter, Dawn Marie, Connecticut; grandchildren; brother, Walter Snopek, Hunlock Creek; sister, Wilma Snopek, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.

Lillian (Gutterman) Kline died Aug. 28 in Winter Park, Fla.
Born Jan. 18, 1920, in the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Celia Gutterman. She was a 1937 graduate of GAR High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; and brother, Harold Gutterman.
Surviving are her son, Herbert M., Col. U.S. Air Force, retired; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and brother, Dr. Bernard, Greensboro, N.C.; and

Joseph W. Krishack, of RR 1 Springville, died Thursday at the VNA Hospice Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born April 20, 1937, in Taylor, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Lunney) Krishack. He was a 1955 graduate of Old Forge High School. He worked at Techneglas, Pittston. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Margaret (Sickler) Krishack; sons, Joseph, Dupont; James, Tunkhannock; and Thomas, Springville; daughters, Ann Gow and Michelle Klinges, both of Nicholson; nine grandchildren; brother, Michael "Bucky," Rutherfordton, N.C.; and sister, Roseann Ferraro, Scranton.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of Nativity BVM, Tunkhannock, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Alberta Mae Shumaker, 87, of Sugar Notch, died Friday at Valley Crest, Plains Township.
Born Jan. 3, 1913, in Sugar Notch, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Bessie (MacIntyre) Shumaker. She was a 1930 graduate of Sugar Notch High School. She worked for the Arthur Greenwood and Jack Wootten grocery stores, Sugar Notch, and Fanny Farmer's Candy Shop, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Ashley, and its United Methodist Women.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur and William "Pen" Shumaker.
Surviving are several cousins.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Harriet Santos will officiate. Interment will be in the Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the McCune Funeral Home, Mountaintop.

Helen Geraldine Jones, 85, of Mountaintop, died Wednesday at Fritzingertown Assisted Living Facility, Drums section of Butler Township.
Born May 27, 1915, in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Olive May (Charles) Schwarzcq. She was a graduate of Hazleton High School and received a master's degree in fine arts from Syracuse University. She was a vocalist who sang at churches in Hazleton, provided vocal lessons in the Hazleton community and taught music at Wyoming Seminary Day School, Forty Fort.~ She was the founder and director of the Choralairs of Hazleton. She was a member and the minister of music with St. Paul's Methodist Church, Hazleton, and Christ United Methodist Church, Mountaintop.
She was preceded in death by her husband, attorney Elwood H.; and brothers, Gabriel, Frederick and Lanard.
Surviving are her children, Rhett H., Philadelphia; Tannie H. Landry, Melbourne, Fla.; Brittcq H. and Terry H., both of Lake Nuangola; Cyndycq K. Kountz, Gilbert, Ariz.; Gayle H. Thear, Allentown; and Elwood H., Jr., Morristown; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Brit and Mary Springfield. She was a graduate of Germantown High School and attended Luzerne County Community College. She was a physical therapist at the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry and David.
Surviving are her son, Austin Holloman, Philadelphia; daughter, Jessica Urenovitch, West Hazleton; one grandson; brothers, Brit, Steven and Robin, all of Philadelphia; and sister, Rosemary, Philadelphia.

Florence D. Plocicki, 82, of Valley Crest, Plains Township, died Thursday at Valley Crest.
Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Jelinski) Plocicki. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and Nanticoke Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at Binghamton General Hospital. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Nanticoke.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ben and Leo; and sisters, Ruth Moore, Mary Kanjorski and Lotti Pietrzyk.
Surviving are her brother, Anthony, Pottstown; and sister, Eleanor Zierowicz, Kingston; nieces; and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. today from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9 a.m. today.

Anna Yanchick, age 86, of Brookmont Health Care Center, Effort, Pa., formerly of Rutter Avenue, Kingston, Pa., died Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Yanchick Sr., who died in 1992. She was born in Swoyersville, Pa., on Oct. 29, 1913 and the daughter of the late Nickola and Katie (Lesak) Dosiak. She was a former member of the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Swoyersville, Pa.
Anne is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Charlotte Yanchick, of Kunkletown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Joseph Yanchick Jr., of Shavertown, Pa.; Daryl Ann Gower and her husband, Donald, of Gilbert, Pa.; Jean L. Mack and her husband, David, of Lexington, Ky; Carol M. Herfurth and her husband, Louis, of Gilbert, Pa.; Jerome M. Yanchick and his wife, Bethanne, of Gilbert, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Yantacka, Helen Diammetteo and Cathryn O'Neill; and one brother, Michael Dosiak.
Funeral services will begin 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31 at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home, Inc., Route 209, Gilbert, Pa., followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert, Pa., with the Rev. Father William McCawley celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery in Swoyersville, Pa. Sister M. Majella Foreso, RSM, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy, died Thursday at Mercy Center, Dallas.
The former Josephine Foreso was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Huntingdon, a daughter of the late Martin and Theresa (Gentile) Foreso. She was a 1938 graduate of Mount Aloysius Academy, Cresson, and received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from College Misericordia, Dallas Township, and bachelor's degree in library science from St. Francis College, Loretto.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy Sept. 8, 1938 and professed her vows March 12, 1941. She taught in Catholic elementary schools in Scranton, Harrisburg, Allentown, Pittsburgh, and Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a school librarian at St. Kevin School, Flushing, N.Y. She joined the prayer ministry at Mercy Center, Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, James and John; and sister, Mary Foreso Colucci.
Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Transferal to Mercy Center will be at 1 p.m. today. A Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. this evening at Blessed Sacrament Chapel. A viewing will be from 1 p.m. until after the Wake Service. Transferal to McAuley Hall, Cresson, will be Sunday, with a viewing from 2 to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. A Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at McAuley Hall. She was a daughter of the late Alice S. and Thomas J. Bassetti, formerly of Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Christ Ascension Lutheran Church, Philadelphia.
Surviving are her sons, Keith D. and David W.; daughter, Diane M.; brother, Thomas F. Bassetti; sister, Norma Koch; three nephews; three nieces; and three aunts.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Ann.
Services were held Oct. 23 at the Christ Ascension Lutheran Church. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Glenside. Victor A. Decker Sr., of Stanton Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born Jan. 25, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Anthony and Viola (John) Decker. He attended Wilkes-Barre Area High School. He was self-employed as a scrap dealer throughout the Wyoming Valley. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Anthony's Maronite Church, St. George's Maronite Church and Kassab Joseph Post, all of Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Joseph, George and James "Dixie," and sister, Elizabeth Gazenski.
Surviving are his wife, the former Genevieve Elias; sons, Victor and Robert J., both of Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; brothers, Frank, Wilkes-Barre; and John, Detroit; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service Corp., 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. George's Maronite Church. Marie F. (Fetzer) Dorko, 65, of Southampton, Bucks County, formerly of Kingston, died Monday at her home.
Born Aug. 27, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Marianne Fetzer. She was a sales representative for the Social Security Administration, receiving awards for service in her field.
Surviving are her husband of 38 years, James G.; daughter, Denise Mahoney, Abington; son, James G., Jr., Trevose; two grandsons; sisters, Barbara Barber, Kingston; and June Carr, Erie.

Born Aug. 1, 1931, Wilkes-Barre. He was a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant. He was a warden with the death by his brother, Earl Randolph, Jr.
Surviving are his sons, David, Placerville; and Phillip, Palmyra, Va.; four grandchildren; and sisters, Barbara Bomboy, Stroudsburg; and Janet Wethington, Redpoint, Texas.
A service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Green Valley Mortuary, Green Valley and Bass Lake Roads, Cameron Park, Calif. Graveside services will follow at Green Valley Cemetery. Floyd "Sam" Harding, 75, of Liverpool, N.Y., died Monday at home.
Born in Wyoming, he was a son of the late Floyd and Mary (Colwell) Harding. He attended Wyoming Memorial High School. He worked for Pitney Bowes Inc., Wilkes-Barre, Allentown and Syracuse, N.Y., retiring as a service manager. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific and European-African campaigns and served with the Mediterranean Fleet during the Korean War. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, Liverpool, N.Y., active with Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 321, Wyoming, and member of Wyoming Lodge 468, F&AM, Shrine Club of Greater Wilkes-Barre, Irem Temple AAONHS, Wilkes-Barre, Lodge Council Consistory of Bloomsburg, National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors Inc. and the USS Columbus Veterans Association, serving on the board of directors.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John J.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Zillah Anthony; sons, William D., Wilkes-Barre; and Thomas, West Pittston; daughter, Joyce Thompson, Wilkes-Barre; four grandsons; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Richard, Dallas; C. William, West Pittston; sisters, Violet, Syracuse, N.Y.; Janet Crosby, Wilkes-Barre; and Dorcas Davis, Swoyersville; nieces and nephews.

Florence L. Harrington, 85, formerly of College Manor, Dallas, died Monday at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, Del.
Born March 9, 1915, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late George and Amelia (Becker) May. She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Shavertown section of Kingston Township, and Order of the Eastern Star, Nanticoke chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and sisters, Dorothy Lutz and Ruth Rostalski; and brother, Albert May.
Surviving are her son, Robert J., Sweet Valley section of Ross Township; daughter, Judith M. Davis, Rehoboth~ Beach, Del.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main Street, Shavertown, with the Rev. Charles Grube officiating. Mary M. Kovalcik, 90, of Susquehanna Avenue, Shickshinny, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.
Born Feb. 1, 1910, in Mocanaqua, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Katherine (Dula) Mieszalowski. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Mocanaqua. For several years, she and her late husband owned Andy's Tavern in Shickshinny. She last worked for 20 years at the former Duplan Silk Mill in Berwick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Kovalcik, who died on May 1, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Sylvester Mieszalowski.
Surviving are a son, John Kovalchikcq, Wilkes-Barre; two grandchildren, Anthony John Kovalchikcq Sr., Wilkes-Barre; April Snyder, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Kovalchikcq and Anthony John Kovalchikcq Jr.
Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Mayo Funeral Home Inc. 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, Pa., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church in Mocanaqua. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
