Griffiths, 36, of North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre died Tuesday at her home.Born Oct. 24, 1964, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Jack, Sr., and Helen (Schnelle) Griffiths, Upper Askam section of Hanover Township. She was a 1982 graduate of Hanover Area High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in archaeology from Penn State University in 1987 and a master's degree in anthropology in 1997 from the State University of New York, Binghamton, NY. She was president and co-owner of Pan-Cultural & Associates Archaeological Services, Pittston, which she established six years ago. She was a member and president of the Francis Dorrance Chapter 11, Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology, Wyoming Historical and Geological Society, Wilkes-Barre. She was an active lecturer on archaeology and was a part-time professor in the Anthropology Department of Wilkes University.

"Pop" Jenkins, of Brookhill Avenue, Vestal, N.Y., died Tuesday at the Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y.Born March 4, 1930, on Russell Hill, Tunkhannock, he was a son of the late George and Stella (Winnie) Jenkins. He was a 1948 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and graduate of Bliss Electrical School, Silver Springs, Md. He was a computer planner for IBM in New Jersey, New York and Japan. He was a member of the Vestal Center United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Men's group.

Olga (Silvanage) Ulivitch, 68, of Warren Street, West Pittston, died Tuesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.Born in Dupont, she was a daughter of Mary (Seftchick) Lukasik and Frank Silvanage. She was a graduate of Dupont High School and Lackawanna Business College. She was a CCD teacher and lecture at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers and Altar and Rosary Society. She was awarded the Bishop Neuman and Pope Pius X Medal for diligent religious services. Civicly, she chaired fund raisers and served as a life-long member and leader of the Girl Scouts of Penns died Oct. 28 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.
She was a daughter of Marie (Burns) Brenner, Wilkes-Barre, and the late Charles Brenner. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Zephyrhills.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Brenner.
Surviving are her husband, Herbert; sons, Scott Brenner, Waldorf, Md.; and Joseph Morris, Lake Silkworth; daughters, Sharon Honeywell, Moosic; and Marilyn Heiser, Sweet Valley section of Ross Township; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Joan Ostrowski, Oakwood Park, Laflin; Marie Beckley, Wyoming; and Carolyn Sweeney, Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, corner of Division and Barney streets, Wilkes-Barre. Monsignor Donald McAndrews will officiate. Interment will follow directly after Mass in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Burke, William

William F. Burke, 81, of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday.
He was a retired chief warrant officer, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a retired veteran of the 101st Airborne Division, serving in combat during the Battle of the Bulge and the Defense of Bastogne. He was captured in January, 1945 and was a POW for the remainder of the war. He received the Bronze star for valor, the American Theater Service Ribbon, European Theater Service Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Medal and Good Conduct Medal during his military service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Michaeline.
Surviving are his sons, William, Michael and Patrick; daughter, Deborah; nine grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Smith.
Services will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Information was given by the Joseph W. Bliley Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel, Richmond, Va.

Edward C. Bitler, 51, of RR 2, Second Street, Laceyville, died Thursday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
Born Nov. 19, 1949, in Meshoppen, he was the son of Alice (Root) Bitler, Meshoppen, and the late Albert Bitler. He was a 1968 graduate of Tunkhannock High School. He worked at Proctor and Gamble Paper Products, Mehoopany. He was a member of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 25 years, the former Emily Decker; daughter, Barb Lantz, Laceyville; brother, Rev. Kenneth, Susquehanna; one uncle, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and committal services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, with the Rev. Dave Hinkley officiating. Interment will be in Vaughn Cemetery, Mehoopany. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mehoopany United Methodist Church.

Hilda Brooks, 90, of RR 2, Dallas, died Friday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Emily (Durbin) Mitchell. She attended Plymouth Borough schools and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was a life member of the First Primitive Methodist Church, Plymouth, and was active with its the Ladies Aid Society and Class in the Corner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J.; and sisters, Gertrude Mitchell and Hazel Hosey; and brothers, James D. and Herbert F.
Surviving are her niece, Mary G. Hosey, with whom she resided for the past 13 years; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Williams Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. John Stange IV and Rev. William Fudge officiating. Interment will be in Hanover Green Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. illiam T. Carpenter, of Hillside Avenue, Edwardsville, formerly of the Chase section of Jackson Township, died Friday at the Hospice Care of the VNA at Heritage House, Wilkes Barre.
Born in Luzerne, he was a son of the late Charles and Loretta (Schenk) Carpenter. He worked in area coal mines and was the owner of Carpenter's B.P. Service Station, Chase. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine; brothers, Henry and Edward; and sisters Margaret Adamski and Audrey Wagner.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, the former Anna Zawatski; daughters, Loretta Wojtowicz, Edwardsville; and Cindy Owens, Larksville; five grandchildren; brothers, Charles, Wilkes Barre; Howard, Plymouth; and Larry Sorber, Harveys Lake; sisters, Lois Drust and Nancy Menkavitch, both of Edwardsville; Loretta Kohol, Wilkes Barre; and Katheryncq Grundy, Philadelphia.

Born in Pittston, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Manczas) Liput. She attended Duryea schools. She worked in the area garment industry and for Lori Dress, Pittston. She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; brothers, John, George, Joseph and Michael Liput; and sisters, Helen Zaniewski and Anna Tokar.
Surviving are her sons, Frank, Dupont; Robert, Grover; Michael, Clearwater, Fla.; Joseph, Santa Anna, Calif.; and Dr. George, La Vale, Md.; daughter, Mary Lou Heston, Hampton, N.J.; numerous grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; brothers, Andrew and Stephen Liput, both of Trenton, N.J.; and Charles Liput, Elmwood, N.J.; sisters, Bertha Milkanin, Pittston; and Margaret Chaivanik, Waterbury, Conn.; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. Leonard Joseph Gedrich, of Hyattsville, Md., died Nov. 1 in Hyattsville.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lottie Gedrich. He was a graduate of Kingston High School. He served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his daughter, Gloria; son, Walter; three grandchildren; and sisters, Celia Keepers and Regina Katona, Kingston.
Funeral services were held from the Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Md. Interment was in the Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

Arthur F. Gassner Sr., 72, of Locust Lake Village, Pocono Lake, died Thursday at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
Born Jan. 26, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Edith (Bubble) Gassner. He attended Meyers High School. He worked in the textile industry as a plant supervisor in Roseland, N.J., and worked in the maintenance department at Locust Lake Village. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; sister, Thelma; and brother, John.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Mary Lowe; son, Arthur F., Jr., Locust Lake Village; daughter, Darlene Conway, Berlin, N.J.; four grandchildren; brothers, Martin, Florida; and David; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Leo P. Lehman Funeral Home, 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Florian Gyza will officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday.

Surviving are her sister, Martha Elko, Wilkes-Barre, and a nephew.
