Linde, Gerhard

Gerhard "Gary" S. Linde, 64, of Sweet Valley, died Wednesday at the Troy Community Hospital, Troy.

Born May 7, 1936, in Germany, he was the son of the late Freidrich and Helene Alexander Linde. He came to the United States in 1956 and resided in Sweet Valley for the past 20 years.

He was self-employed as a waterproofing contractor in Oldbridge, N.J., for 15 years, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Luzerne County Sheriff's Association.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helene McGinley.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, the former Moya Symons; sons, Gary Linde, Royersford; Tim and Andrew Linde, both of Tuckerton, N.J.; daughters, Shari Linde, Quakertown; Holly Linde, Sweet Valley; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with pastor Terry Newton, of the Sweet Valley Church of Christ, officiating. Friends may call one hour before the time of services Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sweet Valley Ambulance Association, PO Box 207, Sweet Valley, 18656.

Pikas, John
November 25, 2000
John "Jake" Pikas, of South Grant Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday in the ManorCare Health Service, Second Avenue, Kingston.

Born Nov. 30, 1911, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice Pikas. He resided in Wilkes-Barre his entire life and attended GAR Memorial High School.

He was a U.S. Army/Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Maternity, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.

He was formerly employed by the Wilkes-Barre Electric Co. and Mack Electric Co. Before retiring, he was employed by Friedman Electric Supply Co., Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Stella Klapot; brothers, Thomas Pikas and Joseph (Swike) Pikas; and sister, Jeanette Trojanowski.

Surviving are his sons, David Pikas, West Wyoming; Thomas Pikas, Wilkes-Barre; step son, Robert Klapot, Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Maternity. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Robbins, Franklin
November 25, 2000
Franklin H. Robbins, of Tunkhannock, died Saturday at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.

Born Nov. 23, 1913, in Scranton, he was the son of the late G. Miles and Bertha Diefenderfer Robbins. Before retiring, he was the owner of Ace-Robbins Inc.

He was an active member in Triton Hose Co., Tunkhannock, since 1948, serving as past vice president and president. He served as president of the Firemen's Relief Fund and was a member of Tunkhannock Temple Lodge 248, F. & A.M.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elinor Flanagan; sisters, Harriet Chappell and Ethel Williamson.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lucy G. Gorham Robbins; daughters, JoAnn Shaffer and Mary Robbins, both of Tunkhannock; brother, Miles H. Robbins, San Antonio, Texas; sister, Eleanor Duff, Toms River, N.J.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Edwin A. Simmons, of the Lemon United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Temple Lodge 248 F. & A.M. will hold Masonic services at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Triton Hose Co. Building Fund, PO Box 765, Tunkhannock, 18657.

Sauer, Herman
November 25, 2000
Herman H. Sauer, 80, of Division Street, Kingston, died Saturday at his home.

He was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Kingston, a son of the late John and Rose Schroble Sauer. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and Wyoming Seminary School of Business. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was employed for Bell Telephone Co. for many years. Mr. Sauer was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston. He was a life member of Wilkes-Barre Telephone Pioneers and a charter member of the Sweet Treat Breakfast Club.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Sauer.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Ayers, to whom he was marriage 55 years; daughters, Diane Zalewski, Bel Air, Md.; Donna Ondish, Forty Fort; Doreen Fronzoni, Larksville; Dina Hayduk, Kutztown; grandchildren, Amy and Jon Eric Zalewski; John Francis and April Fronzoni; Colleen, Hannah and Nathan Hayduk; and sister, Catherine Kearney, Kingston.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from Maher-Collins Funeral Home, 360 N. Maple Ave., Kingston, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Larksville. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Telephone Pioneer Life Members, c/o Judy Betti, 113 W. Pettebone St., Wyoming.

Scouten, Berton
November 24, 2000
Berton R. Scouten, 77, of Fairview Township, Mountaintop, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Sept. 6, 1923, in Noxen, he was the son of the late George and Minnie (Race) Scouten. He was educated in the Noxen schools.

He was a resident of Fairview Township for the past 40 years. He was last employed by Foster Wheeler Corp., Mountaintop, for 23 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Mountaintop Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary McColation; son, Burton, Mountaintop; daughter, Sandra Hanlon, Glen Lyon; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Desiderio Funeral Home, Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop, with the Rev. James Shawley, of Mountaintop Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Albert Cemetery, Mountaintop. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Sabecky, John
November 25, 2000
John F. Sabecky, 76, formerly of Hanover Township, died Saturday at the Hampton House Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late John and Helen Margavitch Gosart Sabecky. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Before retiring, he was employed as a coal miner and at Topps Chewing Gum Co., Duryea.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; and sister, Martha Court.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Roushey, Glen Lyon; brothers, Peter, Wyoming; William, Pringle; Raymond, Edwardsville; Frank, Middlesex, N.J.; Edward, Sugar Notch; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Stelma, Stephen

Berger, Albert
November 26, 2000
Albert W. Berger, 82, of North Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born July 6, 1918, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late John and Christianna (Thomas) Berger.

He was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended Wilkes College.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under Gen. George C. Patton and receiving the Purple Heart medal.

He was an IBM operator at the Veterans Administration Building, Wilkes-Barre, and worked for Luzerne Optical Laboratories Ltd., Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of the Brookside Sportsman Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Eleanor Muth; and sister, Marie Lowe.

Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth Emmert and Joan Macarelli, both of Wilkes-Barre; sons, William T., Edwardsville; and Charles A., Virginia Beach, Va.; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Dr. K. Gene Carroll of the Parsons Primitive Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Cannon, Rose
November 25, 2000
Rose M. Cannon, 84, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, Kingston, formerly of Main Road, Hanover Green, Hanover Township, died Saturday at Manor Care.

Born Jan. 29, 1916 in Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Madeline (Dennis) Cannon.

She was a graduate of Hanover Township Memorial High School.

She worked for the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Co.

She was a member of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, Buttonwood, Hanover Township.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and William.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church, 420 Main Road, Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18702.

Arrangements are by the Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home, 630 Main Road, Hanover Green, Hanover Township.

Chaump, Agnes

Agnes (Duffalo) Chaump, of Smith Street, Dupont, died Saturday at the Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Born in Dupont, she was a daughter of the late John and Helen (Repasky) Duffalo.

She attended Dupont schools.

She worked in the local garment industry.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, Stephen and John Duffalo.

Surviving are her husband, Harry; sons, Kenny and Harry, both of Duryea; daughter, Helene Rose Chaump, Dupont; sisters, Helen Twomey, El Monte, Calif.' Anna Deats, Tunkhannock; and Mary Michler, San Gabriel, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Exeter.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Collins, Dorothy

Dorothy G. (Minegar) Collins, 59, of Columbia Street, Duryea, formerly of Hughestown, died Sunday at the Mercy Health Care Center, Nanticoke.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Werts) Minegar.

She was a graduate of Hughestown High School.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hughestown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; brothers, Arlington, William and John Minegar; and sister, Mary Grace Malinosky.

Surviving are her son, Frederick, Duryea; daughters, Dorothy Sherman, Gouldsboro; and Rose Teratinie, Moscow; nine grandchildren; sisters, Alverna Johnson, Old Forge; and Dolores Race, Duryea; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with the Rev. Kenneth Trexler of St. Peter's Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will be in Langcliffe Cemetery, Avoca.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Grigalunas, Helen

Helen Grigalunas, of Drummond Street, Pittston, died Sunday at Highland Manor Nursing Center, Exeter.
