John J. Chapay Jr., 64, of Biloxi, Miss., died Tuesday in D'Iberville, Miss.
Born in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late John, Sr., and Elizabeth Chapay. He worked at the U.S. Government Naval Home, Gulfport, Miss. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years with tours of duty in Africa, Germany and Okinawa as an air traffic controller. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, D'Iberville. He was the organizer and director of the Mississippi Riverboat Cloggers and The Mississippi Paddlewheel Cloggers.
He was preceded in death by his son, Danny Jay.
Surviving are his wife, the former Germain "Cathy" Simoson; daughter, Joanie Seymour, D'Iberville; and sister, Eileane Sipple, Ashley; and two grandchildren.
A Service was held Thursday in Mississippi from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Local arrangements were made by the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., Luzerne.

Albin F. Gasiorowski, 78, of Binghamton, N.Y., died Nov. 20 at Binghamton General Hospital.Born July 20, 1922, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Frank and Helen (Brzezinski) Gasiorowski. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, and 1950 graduate of Binghamton Psychiatric Center School of Nursing and received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in psychiatric nursing from Columbia University. He was the chief of nursing training for the Binghamton Psychiatric Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, participating in the North African campaign, the European campaign and the liberation of the Philippine Islands. He was a member, lector, Eucharistic minister and CCD instructor of St. Mary's Church of Kirkwood, Kirkwood, N.Y.

Helene (Moritz) Harrison, 69, of Schellsburg Road, Claysburg RD, died Wednesday at Nason Hospital Emergency Room, Roaring Spring.
Born March 20, 1931, in Romania, she was a daughter of Sophia Poht, Austria. She owned and operated a personal care home in the Queen. She was a member of The Upper Claar Church of The Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walderman "Wally" Moritz.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her second husband, John P. Harrison; sons, Dr. Gunther, Queen, Claysburg RD; and Dr. Erwin, Old Forge; four grandchildren; sister, Meha Derndorfer, Austria; and brother, Adi Poht, Houston.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at The J. Gary Interment will be in Greenfield Cemetery, Claysburg RD. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Lois M. Jones, 74, of St. Mark Avenue, Lititz, died Tuesday at Essa Flory Hospice Center, Lancaster.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Sarah (Kresge) Miller. She was a graduate of Wyoming High School and attended Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, and Penn State University. She studied fashion design and merchandising at Traphagen School, New York City. She was a homemaker, seamstress and dressmaker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, and charter member of the Lancaster Women's Club.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Edward L., Jr.; son, Edward L., III, Millersville; daughter, Catherine J. Bowers, Madison, Tenn.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and brothers, William R. Miller Jr., White Haven; and Norman L. Miller, Lancaster.
A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke St., Lancaster, with the Rev. Dr. David L. Johnson and Rev. L. Guy Mehl officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. The family will meet with relatives and friends immediately after the service. Dorothy M. Keating, of Bryden Street, Pittston Township, died Wednesday at East Mountain Manor.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Pearl (Fanning) Schimes. She was a graduate of Hoyt School of Practical Nursing and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was a private duty nurse. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F.; and daughter, Dorothy Usacavage.
Surviving are her son, Robert J., Gambrills, Md.; daughter, Jean Marie Arcaese, Pittston Township, with whom she resided; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Adonizio Funeral Home Inc., 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's the Evangelist Church. Burial will be in St. John's Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston. The viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

He attended St. Mary's Parochial School. He worked for Larksville Borough in the Street Department. He was a member of St. Mary's-St. Stephen's Church Community, Plymouth.

Joseph W. Radziak, 76, formerly of Nanticoke, died Wednesday at the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Feb. 29, 1924, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Paul and Catherine (Krzak) Radziak. He attended the Nanticoke public schools. He was a steel worker for Midvale Hippenstall Corp., Philadelphia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the African and European Theaters. He was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Nanticoke.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Stanley, Peter, John and Leonard; and sisters, Theresa, Amelia and Anna.
Surviving are his sons, Joseph, Jr., Sacramento, Calif.; Raymond, Voorhees, N.J.; and David, Cherry Hill, N.J.; daughter, Barbara Swonger, Myerstown; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward, Glenolden; and Paul, Nanticoke; and sisters, Helen Wozniak, Victoria Kamionka, Tozia Guffrovich and Mary Rudawski, all of Nanticoke.

Josephine Snarski, 80, of Scott Street, Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at her home.
Born Sept. 27, 1920, in Herrin, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Apolonia (Kraziewski) Gonglefski. She attended the Swoyersville schools. She worked at Duplan silk mill and the former United Penn Bank. She was a member of St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J.; sisters, Wanda Yakupcin, Jennie Kopec and Edna Bernoski; and brother, Edward Gonglefski.
Surviving are her daughter, Lorraine Balara, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; son, John J., Jr., Hanover Township; four grandchildren; sister, Lillian Gonglefski, Swoyersville; and brother, Joseph Gonglefski, Swoyersville.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church. Bella M. Turinski, of Pine Run Road, Hanover Township, died Thursday at her home.Born April 25, 1914, in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Boczar) Mikosz. She attended Wilkes-Barre Township schools. She worked in the area garment industry at Fernbah silk mills and Georgetown Silk. She and her husband, Stephen, who died in 1995, owned and operated the Mount Palooka Service Station, Route 309, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Helen Balayszis, 94, of Mark Drive, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township, died Friday at the family home.
Born Jan. 28, 1906, in Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Solomon) Parrish. She was a graduate of Hanover Township High School. She was a stenographer for Liability Insurance Co., Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church, Lyndwood section of Hanover Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley J.; brothers, George, John, Peter and Michael Parrish; and sister, Mary Lewis.
Surviving are her son, Stanley, at home; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Muhlenburg. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until funeral time Monday.

Nello C. Bazzarri, 75, of East Grace Street, Old Forge, died Friday at the Hospice Unit of Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville.
Born June 22, 1925, in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Vincent and Antionette (Spigarelli) Bazzarri. He was a 1943 graduate of Old Forge~ High ~School. He was a machinist for Ashley Machine & Tool Co., Ashley. He was a member of the Giovanile Society and a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Old Forge.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Elaine Bellani; son, Mark, Scranton; brother, Giglio, Old Forge; sisters, Genevieve Bazzarri and Anna Tross, both of Old Forge; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, West Grace Street, Old Forge. Helen (Kingeter) Buria, of Vanessa Drive, Hanover Township, died Friday at her home.
Born July 3, 1918, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hadvance. She graduated from Coughlin High School and was self-employed in real estate. She was also the owner of a beauty salon and dress shop.
Surviving are her daughter, Georgeen K. Sallitt, at home; grandson, Norman Sallitt, Dallas; stepchildren, Nanette Greenberg, Wilkes-Barre; David Kingeter, Woodstock, Conn.; four nieces and nephews; and also Rania Neddoff, Hanover Township.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. "She gave her heart and was loved by one and all." Arrangements are by the Straub Kane Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702.

John J. Demchak, III, of Edward Street, Kingston, died Friday at his home.
He was the son of the late John J., Jr. and Josephine (Ritinski) Demchak. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and the Philadelphia School of Barbering. He owned and operated a barber shop at his home. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283 and the American Legion Black Diamond Post 395, both of Kingston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen S. Medura.
Surviving is his son, Edward J., Fountain Hill.

Dr. Patrick J. Ferraro, FACS, Clarks Summit, died Thursday at home.
Born in Dunmore, he was a son of Mildred (Occulto) Ferraro, Dunmore, and the late Samuel Ferraro. He was a 1951 graduate of Dunmore High School, and received a bachelor of arts degree in 1955 from Hofstra College, Hempstead, N.Y., and his medical degree in 1959 from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in Fort Ritchie, Md., from 1961 to 1962. His internship was at the United States Marine Corps William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas, and he served his residency at Veterans Administration Hospital, Philadelphia. He received certification from the American Board of Surgery, fellowship with the American College of Surgeons and with the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Inc.
He maintained private practice in general surgery and critical care medicine. He held several appointments at Community Medical Center, Scranton. He was a director of Emergency Medical Services of Lackawanna County, medical adviser of Northeastern Pennsylvania Regional Medical Planning Board, medical director of Emergency Medical Services Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania, medical director of Five County (Northeastern Pennsylvania) Federal Training Grant for Emergency Medical Services, Governor's Task Force for Development of New Modes of Medical Care Delivery, director of EMS of Lackawanna County and Cancer Program at Community Medical Center and chairman of Lackawanna County MICU Committee. He was a president and counselor with the Eastern Chapter of American College of Surgeons and cancer liaison physician of the Commission on Cancer at Community Medical Center. He was a member of numerous professional societies, including medical, surgical and trauma societies. He was also a member of St. Michael's Church, West Scranton, Knights of Columbus and the Apologetics Committee and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, the former Judith Isenhour; son, Patrick, Jr., Chestnut Hill; daughters, Michele, VMD, Millbrook, N.Y.; Lynne Houser, Lititz; and Mary Citsay, West Orange, N.J.; six grandchildren; brother, Carl, Richmond, Va.; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Monday from the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Dunmore, with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 1703 Jackson St., West Scranton. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Rosary will be recited at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. Frederick C. Kirkendall, 57, of Dallas, died Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born Nov. 2, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth (Morgan) Kirkendall. He was a 1963 graduate of Dallas Senior High School and attended the Granoff School of Music, Philadelphia. He was a musician and guitarist with the Star Fire Band, owned and operated the Back Mountain Music Co. and was an artist in residence at the State Correctional Institute at Dallas, Jackson Township. He also worked for Wesley Village. He was a member of the Back Mountain Harvest Assembly, Trucksville section of Kingston Township.
Surviving are his wife of 32 years, the former Judy Besteder; sons, Frederick, Norristown; and Charles, at home; daughter, Judy Joy, Dallas; sister, Doris Morris, Asheville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Kolc, 91, of Iroquois Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Plains Township, died Friday at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, where she resided since July.
Born in Wilkes-Barre Township, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Zavatski) Krupack. She attended Wilkes-Barre Township schools. She was a member of the housekeeping staff of the Holiday Inn, Wilkes-Barre, and was a clerk with Wilkes-Barre Cold Storage Co.~ She was a member of St. Christopher's Church, Bear Creek Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; daughter, Madge; grandson, Leonard; and brothers, Joseph, Michael and Stanley Krupack.
Surviving are her son, Stephen A., at home; and Bernard M., Courtdale; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great great-grandsons.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Saviour Church, Wilkes-Barre. The Very Rev. Born in Easton, he was a son of Mariam K. (Goldberg) Cassel and the late Robert Kutner.
Surviving are his wife, Debbi; sons, Timothy, R. Skye and Justin; daughters, Jennifer and Dana; brother, Michael, Bensalem; sister, Celia Connor, Swoyersville; stepsister, Stacey Busch, Lantana, Fla.; and stepbrother, Neil Cassel, Dresher.
