He attended Scranton public schools and was a machinist for the United States Textile Corp. and the Chamberlain Corp. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was an active member of the Salvation Army Corps, where he was a Boy Scout master and helped with the Cub Scouts.

Former Gov. Robert Patrick Casey died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.Born Jan. 9, 1932, in Jackson Heights, N.Y., he was a son of the late Alphonsus and Marie (Cummings) Casey. He was a 1949 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, received an athletic scholarship to the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass., where he graduated with honors in 1953. He received a trustee scholarship to George Washington University Law School, Washington, D.C., where he became research editor of the law review and graduated in 1956 with honors. He worked at several law firms before running for public office in 1962 and his election from Lackawanna County to the state Senate. In 1967, he was elected as one of three delegates representing Lackawanna County to the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention. On Jan. 20, 1987, he was sworn in as Pennsylvania's 42nd governor. He was re-elected in 1990 by 1.1 million votes, the largest gubernatorial landslide in Pennsylvania history.

Joseph W. Dobbs, of Scranton, died Wednesday at home.Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William B. Dobbs. He was a graduate of Taylor High School, Keystone School, Penn State University and Keystone Junior College, LaPlume, where he was senior class president. He founded WICK Radio Station with his wife of 57 years, the former Ann Harris, and taught in the Scranton School District. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, attaining the rank of major. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and American Foundation of Musicians, both of Scranton, and the Board of Directors of Allied Services, trustee of the Scranton State General Hospital, president of the Northeast Pennsylvania Arthritis Foundation, active in public relations work with neighborhood groups and in many community activities.

Born in the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, she was the daughter of the late Jacob, Sr., and Helen (Grivner) Steligo. She was a 1943 graduate of Coughlin High School. She worked for Prince George County Library, Hyattsville, Md., was co-owner of Charlie Brown's Delicatessen, Inc., Washington, D.C., with her husband of 53 years, Charles D., Sr., and a ward secretary for Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerome J. Steligo; and Jacob B. Steligo Jr.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her daughters, Charlene Lindsey, Homer, N.Y.; Colette Wallace, Swoyersville; and Carron Shiner, Wilkes-Barre; son, Charles D., Jr., Wilkes-Barre; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church. Entombment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Dallas. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mercy Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.

Dominick P. Dantone, 79, of Johnson Street, Pittston, died Tuesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born June 3, 1921, in Pittston, he was the son of the late Michael and Patricia (Silviano) Dantone. He was a graduate of Pittston High School and was a carpenter. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a rear gunner in Panama, Germany and the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church, Pittston.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret (Gazey) Dantone; son, Michael, Pittston Township; daughter, Marie Dantone Kapes, Pittston; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dominick "Nicky;'' sisters, Angeline Neverouski, Mena Koakulas and Rose Usavage; and brother, Matthew.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Graziano Funeral Home, Inc., 700 Pittston Blvd., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Church. Born in New York City, she was a daughter of Ruth (Stone) Noto and the late Joseph Armando. She was a graduate of Harter High School, West Nanticoke, and was a member of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Surviving are her daughter, Ruth Ann Askew, Scranton, son, Arthur Askew Jr.; grandchildren; sisters, Carol Sims, Plymouth; and Patricia Stewart, Bear Creek; brother, Alfred Noto, Larksville; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Lisa Jean Askew and Diane Askew.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. today from the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John's Evangelist Church, Pittston Avenue and Fig Street, Scranton. Joseph J. Kurilla Sr., of Birchwood Estates, Exeter, formerly of Swoyersville, died Monday at the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late John and Julia (Hertro) Kurilla. He attended Holy Trinity Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was a quality control supervisor at Penox Technologies, Pittston, and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville; social member of Wyoming Hose Co. 2, and American Legion Post 644, Swoyersville.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Nardone.
Surviving are his wife of eight years, the former Loretta Hromek; son, Joseph, Seattle; daughter, Michelle, Wilkes-Barre; stepson, David Olejnick, Allentown; stepdaughter, Evelyn Olejnick, Allentown; four grandchildren; brothers, John, Wilkes-Barre; Andrew, Exeter; Frank, Beachwood, N.J.; and Michael, Swoyersville; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. The Rev. Born Nov. 23, 1924, in Edwardsville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Hedwig (Wiecek) Tencza. She attended Edwardsville schools and she was a member of the Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund G.; brothers, John and Edward Tencza; and sisters, Josephine Regula and Frances Kulp.
Surviving are her sons, Edmund J., Rochester Hills, Michigan; and Joseph, Glen Allen, Va.; one grandson; brothers, Joseph Tencza, Inkster, Mich.; and Stanley Tencza, Fenton, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, West Nanticoke. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until funeral time Friday. There will be a Christian wake service 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with the Father Czeslaw Kuliczkowski, Ph.D., officiating.
Palmer, Beverly

Beverly Palmer, 45, of Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born Oct. 18, 1954, in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Edward and Pauline (Wolfinger) Palmer.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Allen; and niece, Nakya Davis, whom she cared for four years.
For many years, Beverly, who had no children of her own, used her motherly instinct to nurture and love her nephew and nieces. She provided a home for them and cared for them as if they were her own. Her goal was to give them as much of a normal life as possible.
Her love and concern extended out to her brothers and sisters. They knew they could always depend on Beverly to pull them through. We will all remember Beverly for her unselfish love and her willingness to give it to whoever was in need.
Surviving are her three brothers, Fred, William and Charles, all of Wilkes-Barre; four sisters, Mary Taylor, of Edwardsville; Berea Patience, Pamela Palmer and Joy Davis, all of Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews, and great-nephew, Hakeem Hobson, who resided with her and cared for as her own.
The funeral service will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. from the Recupero Funeral Home, 141 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with Pastor Dennis Maderia, of New Life Community Church, Dallas, officiating. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
