Dec. 18, 2000

John J. Kosisky Sr., of Main Street, Inkerman, and Main Street, Port Griffith, both sections of Jenkins Township, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Port Griffith, he was a son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Bancas) Kosisky. He attended the Jenkins Township School. He worked in the garment industry. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served in the Pacific. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew, Peter and Joseph; and sisters, Helen and Mary.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Cecilia Vitanovitz, West Pittston; children, Mary Kosisky, John, Jr. and Daniel, all of Inkerman; Paul, Dallas; and Deborah, Dupont; eight grandchildren; brother, George, Sebastopol section of Jenkins Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. The viewing will be from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Kuehn, Lillian
Dec. 19, 2000

Lillian S. Kuehn, 94, of West Fallbrook Avenue, Dallas, died Tuesday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born in Sunbury, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Luczynski) Starr. She was a graduate of Sunbury High School and attended College Misericordia. She owned the former Kuehn's Rexall Drug Store, Dallas. She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; and sister, Dorothy Starr.

Surviving are her son, Frank C., Dallas; and one granddaughter.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, with the Rev. John C. Lambert officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Layaou, Lawrence
Dec. 13, 2000

Lawrence Lincoln Layaou, 78, of Rockinghorse Road, Rockville, Md., formerly of the Washington, D.C. area, died Dec. 13 at his home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1922, in Forty Fort. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 66th Infantry Division. He was a survivor of the troopship, SS Leopoldville, which sank after being hit by a German torpedo on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Helen Marie; son, Robert Lincoln, Monrovia, Md.; daughter, Linda Layaou Crockett, Burtonsville, Md.; two grandchildren; sister, Virginia Shannon, Pittston; and brother, Chester, Sr., Forty Fort.

A Memorial Service was held Monday at Pumphrey's Colonial Funeral Home, 300 W. Montgomery Ave., Rockville, Md. Inurnmentcq will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Montgomery Hospice Society, 1450 Research Blvd., Suite 310, Rockville, Md., 20850.

Lyons, Margaret
Dec. 19, 2000

Margaret P. (Santee) Lyons, 84, formerly of Kingston, died Tuesday at the Wesley Village, Jenkins Township.

Born Feb. 9, 1916, in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Bostfin) Santee. She was a graduate of Swoyersville High School. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy "Lee;" brothers, Steve, Albert, John and Joseph Santee; and sisters, Kathryn Zardecki, Rose Spitzer and Anna Gilbert.

Surviving are her daughters, Jeannie L. Fallon, Wayne; Lee Jane Watson, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; and Virginia Niles, Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Santee, Swoyersville; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Chapel, Kingston, with Monsignor Neil VanLoon officiating. Private interment will be held in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ignatius Church, Kingston; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Przywara Jr., Joseph
Dec. 19, 2000

Joseph C. Przywara Jr., 42, of Oxford Street, Hanover Township, died Tuesday.

Born Sept. 22, 1958, in West Nanticoke, he was a son of Joseph, Sr. and Joan (O'Rourke) Przywara, West Nanticoke. He was a 1976 graduate of Nanticoke High School and attended Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke. He was a a supervisor of machine operation for Plastic Material Corp., formerly the Precision Metalizing Corp., Pittston., and was associated with the family-operated business, West Side Dairy in Wilkes-Barre Township. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Lee Park, Hanover Township, Plymouth Township Little League and the Teeners League.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife of four years, the former Lisa Wall; children, Michael Joseph, Brigantine, N.J.; Ashleecq Marie, at home; brother, Robert, Honesdale; sister, Lisa Bonar, Hackettstown, N.J.; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Scoda, Elizabeth
Dec. 18, 2000

Elizabeth M. Scoda, 67, of Ann Street, Duryea, died Monday at the Hershey Medical Center, Derry Township.

Born in Avoca, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Jackowicz) Drozginski. She was a 1951 graduate of Avoca High School. She worked for the former Topps Chewing Gum Co., Duryea. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Avoca, and was active with and president of the Duryea Little League Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Edmund; sons, Edmund, Jr., Spingbrook; David, Duryea; Raymond, Clarks Green; and William, at home; three grandchildren; brothers, Raymond and William Drozginski, both of Avoca; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. There will be a Christian wake service at 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society at the funeral home.

Shepherd, Beverly
Dec. 18, 2000

Beverly Shepherd, 62, of Boulevard Towers, Pittston, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Born in Dupont, she was the daughter of Russell Lidy, Glendale, and the late Elizabeth Lidy.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Barney Yedesko; second husband, Stanley Shepherd; sons, Barney Yedesko Jr. and Gerald Yedesko.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl Goodrich, Dupont; three grandchildren; brothers, Barry Lidy, Lake Ariel; and Leonard Lidy, Avoca; and sisters, Dolores Riviello, Avoca; Sandra Jumper, Dupont; and Betty Lidy, Wilkes-Barre.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Stephen M. Lokuta Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with the Rev. Jeremiah Peters officiating. Interment will be in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Watkins, Hannah
Dec. 18, 2000

Hannah Watkins, 89, formerly of Plymouth, died Monday at Dorrance Manor, Kingston.

Born in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late George J. and Rebecca (Reese) Watkins. She attended Plymouth High School. She worked for the Blue Ribbon Bakery and Kingston Cake Co. She was a member of the First Welsh Baptist Church, Plymouth, its Sunday school and Ladies Aide Society.

Surviving are several cousins.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the William A. Reese Funeral Chapel, rear 56 Gaylord Ave., Plymouth, with the Rev. Anita J. Ambrose officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the First Welsh Baptist Church, 161 Girard Ave., Plymouth, 18651.

Bohinski Sr., Joseph
Dec. 21, 2000

Joseph Francis Bohinski Sr., 66, of Lima, Ohio, died Thursday at Lima Manor Nursing Home, Lima.

Born March 14, 1934, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Joseph John and Sophie Mary (Hojnowski) Bohinski. He was a retired baker for Interstate Bakeries (Dolly Madison Corp.), Lima. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Lima, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his brother, John; and sister, Carol Ann Volowicz.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy Dobrowolski; sons, Joseph F., Jr., Wapakoneta, Ohio; daughter, Debra Ann Graham, Lima; 2 stepgrandchildren; and brother, Vincent L., Nanticoke.

A private funeral service will be at the convenience at the family. Burial of the cremains will be done at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church. Arrangements are by the Hogenkamp-Straub Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio.

Busch, Leatha Mae
Dec. 11, 2000

LLeatha Mae Busch, 102, of Rocky Rest Road, Shelton, Conn., formerly of Milford, Conn., died Dec. 11, at Born July 27, 1898, in Alden, daughter of the late Abram and Martha (Ruckel) Fairchild. She was a registered nurse.

Surviving are her son, Ronald, Milford, Conn.; three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Albert; and three brothers.

A Private Graveside Service was held Dec. 13 at Edge Hill Cemetery, West Nanticoke. Arrangments were by the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford, Conn.

DeCandia, Lawrence
Dec. 21, 2000

Lawrence M. DeCandia, 70, of White Haven, died Thursday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Sauln) DeCandia. He was a policeman with the New York City Police Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of White Haven, and the American Legion, Freeland.

Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Bond; sons, Michael, Florida; and Lawrence, White Haven; daughter, Elizabeth Diamond, White Haven; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; stepbrother, Raymond DeCandia, New York; stepsisters, Patrina Patano, Bushkill Falls; and Lucilla DeCandia, New York; and stepmother, Libia DeCandia.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Joseph E. Lehman Funeral Home Inc., 403 Berwick St., White Haven, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Weatherly. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Decker, Lafayette
Dec. 20, 2000

Lafayette "Lafe" Francis Decker, of Sharon Acres Road, Charlotte, N.C., died Wednesday at the Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born in Moosic, he was the son of the late Lafayette and Kathleen (Calpin) Decker. He was a graduate of the former Moosic High School and 1953 graduate of the University of Scranton, where he received a bachelor's degree. He also attended Harvard Business School. He was a marketing executive for the National Gypsum Co., Charlotte. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church, Charlotte.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Cecelia Vierchinski; sons, Michael, Laurel, Md.; and James, Charlotte; two grandchildren; sister, Shirley Decker Goul, Moosic; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Franklin Street, Old Forge. The Rev. Cyril J. Rable will officiate. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Rosary Service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cyril J. Rable officiating. A Memorial Mass will be held at a future date at St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church, Charlotte. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Roman Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, N.C., 28210.

Jankowski, Josephine
Dec. 21, 2000

Josephine Jankowski, of Hillman Street, Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at home.

Born in Miners Mills, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Cybulski) Jankowski. She attended Wilkes-Barre area schools. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Lillian Wilk.

Surviving are her sisters, Bertha Brzycki, Plains Township; and Sophie Snarski, Miners Mills; brothers, John, Stanley and Walter, all of Miners Mills; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home, 293 S. River St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Plains Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Jones, Bertha
Dec. 16, 2000

Bertha W. Jones, 93, of Bertels Lane, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

She was born Aug. 18, 1907, in Wilkes-Barre. She attended Wilkes-Barre schools. She worked for the Darling family in Kingston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; brothers, Jack White and Phillip Wolfe; and sister, Anna Walsh.

Surviving are her son, James J., Pittsburgh; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services were held with interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Lane, John
Dec. 18, 2000

John W. Lane, 39, of East Pine Street, Ephrata, died Monday from injuries he suffered in an accident in Chambersburg.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Betty (Comstock) Lane Henning, Tunkhannock, and the late Charles M. Lane. He was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School and 1984 graduate of Stevens School of Technology, Lancaster. He was a carpenter for Lefever Builders, Manheim. He was a member, usher, Sunday school teacher and building committee member of Salem Lutheran Church, Ephrata.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 11 years, Kelley C. (Smith) Lane; daughters, Megan J. and Samantha C., both at home; and stepfather, Edward B. Henning, Tunkhannock.

A Memorial Service was held Thursday at the Salem Lutheran Church, Ephrata, with the Rev. Jeffrey H. Pretz officiating. Private interment will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lane Children Trust Fund, c/o Farmers First Bank, 399 N. Reading Road, Ephrata, 17522. Arrangements are by the Stradling Funeral Home Inc., Ephrata.
