Alma R. Myers, 83, of Pittston, died Wednesday at her home.

Born in Pittston in the family home, she was a daughter of Rowland H. and Margaret Mary (Sharp) Myers. She was a graduate of Pittston High School. She was a cashier for the W.T. Grant Co., Pittston, Diskay Stores and Old River Road Bakery, Pittston Plaza. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, member and treasurer of the Women of Trinity, member and president of Trinity Guild, member of the Pittston Library, Pittston Senior Citizens and Aid Association for Retired Persons.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William; and sisters, Delma Husband, Dorothy Mitchell, Florence Hauser and Naomi Myers.~

Surviving are her sister, Margaret M. Myers, at home; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 211 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. John S. Prater, retired, officiating. Interment will be in West Pittston Cemetery. Friends may call 3 to 5 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Owens, Richard
Dec. 21, 2000

Richard W. "The Fonz" Owens, 59, of Scott Street, Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born July 5, 1941, in Lebanon, he was a son of the late John and Gertrude (McGettigan) Owens. He was raised by his stepfather, the late Charles McGettigan. He was a graduate of Kingston High School. He worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He was a member of St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre, and American Legion Post 815, Wilkes-Barre Township.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Hogan; daughter, Jonine Griffith, Wilkes-Barre Township; sons, John, Pittsburgh; and Jody, at home; four grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Mosley, Bear Creek; Donna Thomas, Port Orange, Fla.; and Shirley Pearson, Denver, N.C.; brothers, David McGettigan, Connecticut; and Charles McGettigan, Kearney, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. William Culnane officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening and 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.

Regalis, Joseph
Dec. 20, 2000

Joseph V. Regalis, 72, of Luzerne, formerly of Swoyersville, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Paul and Rose (Yakaboski) Regalis. He was a 1947 graduate of Swoyersville High School. He was a machinist for Bertels Metalware, Hanover Township. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Theresa Milunic; daughters, Theresa Morgan, Hunlock Creek; and JoAnn Ganczarski, Clarks Summit; two grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, St. Anne's Church, Luzerne. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Courtdale. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Richards, Mildred
Dec. 21, 2000

Mildred Richards, 97, of Plymouth Township, died Thursday at the Fernwood Manor, Pikes Creek.

Born Aug. 22, 1903, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Lescuski) Gregor. She was a member of the West Nanticoke United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; brothers, Elmer and John Gregor; and sisters, Martha and Emily Jenkins, Ada Allabaugh, Mary Williams and Elizabeth Bonham.

Surviving are her daughters, Mildred Rakowski, Pikes Creek; and Jean Bonko, San Diego; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.~ Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Pikes Creek.

Shemanski, Joseph
Dec. 21, 2000

Joseph H. "Snowball" Shemanski, of Plane Street, Avoca, died Thursday at home.

Born in Avoca, he was a son of the late Henry and Stella (Konopski) Shemanski. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Avoca, commander and member of the Avoca Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8335 and the Avoca McWidall-Phillips Post 607.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Connolly.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Theresa Gacek; daughters, Carol Sciandra, Duryea; Linda Sabitus, Avoca; five grandchildren; brothers, Henry, Florida; Franklin and Jack, both of Connecticut; and Chester, Avoca; sisters, Lillian Bonczek, Avoca; Dorothy Snopkowski, Connecticut; and Ann Tickowski, Moscow; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Ruane & Regan Funeral Home, 1308 Grove St., Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Moosic. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SS. Peter & Paul Church, Avoca.

Shubert, Edward
Dec. 20, 2000

Edward J. Shubert, of Falls Township, Dalton, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Born May 14, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Chabala) Shubert. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Lake Winola, St. Mary's of the Lake Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine (Thomas) Shubert; sons, Edward J., Jr., West Chester; and Joe, Mifflinburg; three grandchildren; and sisters, Delores Slusarz, Virginia; Janet Graham, Florida; Rita Smith, Fairfax, Va.; and Maryann Volkmar, Fairfax, Va.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's of the Lake Church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lake Winola. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Stabingas, Victoria
Dec. 20, 2000

Victoria L. (Kubeika) Stabingas, 75, of York, died Wednesday at her residence.

Born Feb. 28, 1925, in Saint Clair, she was a daughter of the late John and Louise Kubeika. She was a graduate of St. Clair High School. She worked for Sears, York. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, York, and volunteer at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor S.

Surviving are her daughters, Mildred S. Slocum, Mountaintop; and Lois A. White, Frederick, Md.; son, Mark V., Issaquah, Wash.; four grandchildren; sisters, Anna Brown, West Hazleton; Mary Wensus, Middleport; and Sophie Costantini, Cinnaminson, N.J.; and brother, Joseph Kubeika.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, with the Rev. John Daya officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The viewing will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements are by the John W. Keffer Funeral Home Inc., 902 Mount Rose Ave., York. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Building Fund, 2935 Kingston Road, York, 17402; or to Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, 331 S. George St., York, 17403.

Strish, Helen
Dec. 20, 2000

Helen J. Strish, of Harris Hill Road, Trucksville section of Kingston Township, died Wednesday at her home.

Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Krulla) Mucha. She was a graduate of Swoyersville High School. She was a member of the Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John F.; brother, Edward Mucha; and sisters, Mary Mucha and Ann Wasko.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Sabetta, Shavertown section of Kingston Township; one grandson; sisters, Victoria Allen, Forty Fort; and Tillie Popson, Trucksville; brothers, Joseph and Stephen Mucha, both of Swoyersville; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Gate of Heaven Church. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Courtdale. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Arrangements are by George A. and Andrew J. Strish Funeral Directors.

Sult Sr., Melvin
Dec. 21, 2000

Melvin J. Sult Sr., 67, of Blair Street, Plymouth, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born June 12, 1933, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Skyler and Wava (Jenkins) Sult. He worked for the American Asphalt Co., Dallas.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Crystal Goss;~ sons, Melvin, Jr., Plymouth; and James Lee, Sutton, Vt; eight grandchildren; brothers, Terry, Shickshinny; and Roger, Nanticoke; and sister, Joan Krolick, Swoyersville.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday from the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny. Burial will be in Cambra Cemetery, Huntington Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Tarapchak, John
Dec. 20, 2000

John "Neff" Tarapchak, 68, of Keifer Avenue, Hazleton, died Wednesday at his residence.

Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Stetchak) Tarapchak. He was a firedriver for the Hazleton Fire Department. He was a U.S. Naval Reserve veteran. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Beaver Meadows, Naval Reserve Port & Starboard Association, Heights Rod & Gun Club, Heights Volunteer Fire Co. No. 4, Pennsylvania Retired Firefighters Association, Six County Fireman's Association and Local 507 International Association of Firefighters.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen.~

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, the former Lorraine Kovalick; sons, Leonard and John D., both of Hazleton; and Brian, Kingston; daughter, Marilyn Keegan, Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren; brothers, Robert and William, both of Hazleton; Eugene, Drums section of Butler Township; sister, Elaine Woodring, Beaver Meadows; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542-544 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton, with Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Parastas services will be at 7:30 p.m. this evening.

Buttafoco, Ernest
December 21, 2000

Ernest R. Buttafoco, of Colonial Acres, Wyoming, died Thursday at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton.

Born in Courtdale, he was a son of the late Oreste and Isolina (Guiliani) Buttafoco.

He was a 1934 graduate of Pittston High School, and attended the Wharton School of Finance.

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving as a sergeant flight engineer.

He was a contractor for Empire Contracting Co.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Exeter, and its Holy Name Society, the Fox Hill Country Club and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dante and Gino.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Naples; brother, Guido, San Francisco; sisters, Mary Naples, Wyoming; and Regina Gaffney, Trumbull, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Anthony of Padua Church.

Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery Mausoleum, Carverton.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by the Recupero Funeral Home, West Pittston.

Funke, Ann
December 22, 2000

Ann (Booth) Funke, 65, of Lehman Avenue, Dallas, died Friday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Dallas, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Helen (Sensenbach) Booth.

She was educated in Dallas schools, and was a graduate of the French Academy of Learning, Ankara, Turkey, and Wilkes-Barre Business College.

She worked for the Turkish government as an English instructor to military cadets.

Surviving are her husband, F. Joseph; son, Richard Whitlock, York; stepdaughter, Erica Funke, Kingston; and two grandsons.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Kolojejchick, Helen
December 21, 2000
Helen (Tribus) Kolojejchick, of Warsaw Street, Swoyersville, died Thursday at her home.

Born in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Boris and Anna (Gutch) Tribus.

She was a 1942 graduate of Swoyersville High School.

She was a trimmer at FAD Manufacturing, Swoyersville.

She was a member of Holy Name-St. Mary's Church, Swoyersville, and its choir and Sacred Heart Society, and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D.; son, Daniel J.; and brothers, William, Stephen and Paul.

Surviving are her son, David, Harrisburg; sisters, Olga Cajka, Swoyersville; and Anne Broda, New Castle, Del.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name-St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Louis Grippe officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Sacred Heart Society will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan House, c/o St. Peter's Church, 38 Central Ave., Wellsboro, Pa. 16901.
