Ann (Churnside) Corcoran, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, died Monday in Rochester, N.Y., at the home of her daughter.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late William and Winifred (Durkin) Churnside. She was a 1931 graduate of Plains Memorial High School and 1935 graduate of Marywood College, receiving bachelor of science and master of science degrees. She taught school at Plains Memorial High School and at Vestal Senior High School, Vestal, N.Y. She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; brother, Philip Churnside; and sister, Mary Churnside.

Surviving are her daughters, Winifred Epley, Ormond Beach, Fla.; and Alberta Corcoran, Rochester, with whom she resided; sister, Alberta Amos, Rochester, N.Y.; and one nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Funeral arrangements are by the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Cuccia, Mary
Dec. 20, 2000

Mary (Jakubiak) Cuccia, 75, of Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Plymouth and Connecticut, died Dec. 20 at her home.

Born Dec. 11, 1925, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Josephine (Rynkiewicz) Malek. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and attended St. Mary's Parochial School, Plymouth. She was an operator for and worked in the business office for Southern Northeastern Telephone Co. She was a member of St. Mary's-St. Stephen's Church Community, Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael; second husband, Frank; sister, Adeline Malek Figart; and brother, Walter Malek.

Surviving are her daughter, Michaelynn Cecire, Eastport, Maine; stepchildren; Brian Cuccia, Mercerville, N.J.; and Deborah Moore, Eastport, Maine; two stepgrandchildren; brother, Francis Malek, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Alice Sadowski, Stamford, Conn.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Plymouth Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

DiGregorio, Assunta
Dec. 25, 2000

Assunta DiGregorio, 57, of Sussex Street, Old Forge, died Monday at Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Born April 24, 1943, in San Mauro Cilento, Salerno, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Francesco and Catherina DiGregorio. She attended school in Italy. She was a homemaker. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Old Forge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertino.

Surviving are her son, Bertino F., at home; daughter, Rosemary, at home; brothers, John and Remigio, both of Lindhurst, N.J.; and Pasquale, San Mauro Cilento; sisters, Maria, San Mauro Cilento; and Clair, Pollica Cilento, Italy; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, West Grace Street, Old Forge. Interment will be in Old Forge Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Gorgas, John
Dec. 22, 2000

John J. Gorgas, 62, of Indian Place, North Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, died Friday at the medical center at Princeton.

Born June 10, 1938, in Nanticoke, he was the son of the late Michael and Evelyn (Shershen) Gorgas. He taught chemistry and physics in Old Bridge High School and was active in their athletic program. He was a communicant of St. Mary Of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Marie (Demski) Gorgas, at home; daughter, Karen Gorgas, Highland Park, N.J.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Adalbert's Church, Glen Lyon. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Glen Lyon. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Andrew J. Kovalik Jr., of Bennett Street, Luzerne, died Sunday at the Hospice Care of the VNA Inpatient Unit of Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.Born in Swoyersville, he was the son of the late Andrew J., Sr., and Celia (Adamchak) Kovalik. He attended Swoyersville schools. He was the sexton for Sacred Heart Parish, Luzerne. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.

Palumbo, Josephine

Josephine (DeSimone) Palumbo, of Plains Township, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Livani) DeSimone. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains Township, College Misericordia, Dallas Township, attaining a bachelor of arts degree in English, and Marywood College, Scranton, where she attained a master's degree in English. She worked at Tobyhanna Army Depot and taught for the Plains Township School District and the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. She also was a part-time sales associate for Boscov's Department Store, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township, and Pennsylvania Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel J., Sr.

Surviving are her daughter, Maria Wheeler, Hudson section of Plains Township; and son, D~aniel J., Jr., Plains Township.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be in the Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Sodnik Sr., William

William A. Sodnik Sr., 85, of Osborne Drive, Pittston, died Monday at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility, Wesley Village, Inkerman section of Jenkins Township, where he was a resident.

Born in Browndale, Forest City, he was a son of the late Frank and Frances (Urbas) Sodnik. He was a graduate of Forest City schools. He worked in the construction field. He was a member of the A. F. of L. Union, Local 215, St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, the Senior Citizens' Organizations of Wilkes-Barre and Pittston, Order of the Elks and the Slovene Benefit Society, International Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, the former Mildred D. Skubits; brothers, Frank and Paul Gerchman; and sisters, Frances Burnham, Ann Planinsek and Mary Gerchman.

Surviving are his son, William A., Jr., with whom he formerly resided, Yatesville; daughter, Phyllis A. Fisher, Kresgeville; four grandchildren; sister, Julie Harvatin, Forest City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass will be at St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin, at a time to be announced. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, Plains Township. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Sromovski, Anthony
Dec. 25, 2000

Anthony P. Sromovski, of Howard Street, Larksville, died Monday at Valley Crest, Plains Township.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Stefus) Sromovski. He was a foreman at the General Cigar Co. warehouse, Kingston. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 655 and St. John the Baptist Church, both of Larksville.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Wachilla; and brothers, John, Michael and Andrew.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Joan Bobeck; sons, Paul A., Larksville; and David A., Luzerne; three grandchildren; brothers, Joseph and Frank, both of Wilkes-Barre Township; sisters, Catherine Elick and Margaret Kerestes, both of Wilkes-Barre Township; and Rose Gelsleichter, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Stolarick, Thelma
Dec. 24, 2000

Thelma C. (Cundiff) Stolarick, 72, of Buckingham Township, died Sunday at Doylestown Hospital.

Born in Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late Edward Kyle and Margaret Nell (Barnes) Cundiff. She was a 1946 graduate of Dallas High School. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross at Doylestown Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Kenneth.

Surviving are her husband, Stephen, Jr.; sons, Stephen Keith, Marion, N.C.; and Kyle Edward, Hatboro; daughter, Karen Stolarick Thompson, Doylestown; six grandchildren; brothers, George Elbert, Kyle Gene and Ronald Lee; sisters, Beverly Rose Anderson, Clara Joan Carney and Marion Carol Salerno.

Relatives and friends may attend the Life Celebration at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 311 W. State Street, Doylestown. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are by the Leaver-Cable Funeral Home, Buckingham.

Wesley, Fred
Dec. 24, 2000

Fred "Ted" Wesley, 80, of Luzerne, died Sunday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born Oct 3, 1920, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Anna (Vowler) Wesley. He was a graduate of Luzerne High School, where he was a member of the football team. He also attended Wilkes University. He was a manager for Acme Markets. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, participating in the Sicily Invasion. He was a member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church, where he was president of its administrative board, trustee, communion steward and member of the Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of Kingston Lodge 395, F & AM, Kingston, Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, and Irem Temple, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis Wesley and Edward DePriest; and sister, Margaret Reichert.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Freeda Croop; sons, Wayne, Courtdale; and Fred, Jr., Swoyersville; three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter; brother, Dr. Joseph, Willow Grove; sister, Audrey Behan, Kingston; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Luzerne United Methodist Church, 440 Bennett St., Luzerne, with the Rev. Carol E. Coleman officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial donations may be made to Luzerne United Methodist Church, Luzerne. Arrangements are by the Karl E. Blight Funeral Home, Kingston.

Broody, John
Dec. 27, 2000

John A. Broody, of Berwick, died Wednesday at the Grandview Nursing Home, Danville.

Born Sept. 5, 1958, in Berwick, he was a son of George E. and Olga (Kobela) Broody. He attended Berwick area schools. He worked with his father in their family-owned business, Broody's Greenhouses, Berwick. He was a member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his son, John; and sister, Deborah Broody.

Surviving are his son, Wesley; Berwick; daughters, Kristine and Amanda Broody, both of Berwick; brother, George E., Jr., Berwick; sisters, Tina Mosca, Forty Fort; and Suzanne Hontz, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with services at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Estock, Edward
Dec. 26, 2000

Edward M. Estock, of Davis Manor, Mountaintop, formerly of Nanticoke Towers and Nanticoke Villa, died Tuesday at the manor.

Born in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Steven Estock. He attended Plymouth Township schools. He was a salesman of delicatessen products for Estock Provisions. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Nanticoke, its Choir and Holy Name Society, United Mine Workers of America, Musicians Union Local 140, Wilkes-Barre, American Legion Post 350 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Nest 839, both of Nanticoke.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Stella Chubeck; and brothers, Steven and Valentine.

Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth Manson, New Orleans; and Constance Williams, Mountaintop; four grandchildren, nieces and nephews.~

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Grontkowski Funeral~ Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. The Holy Name Society and Choir of St. Joseph's Church will recite the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. this evening. The Rev. William Langan will conduct services Thursday afternoon.

Gelsleichter, Mildred

Mildred H. Gelsleichter, 91, of Sharpe Street, Kingston, formerly of the Lee Park section of Hanover Township, died Wednesday at the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Jan. 25, 1909, in Lee Park, she was a daughter of the late David and Mary Ellen (Haskins) Thomas. She was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle Church, Lee Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William C.; brothers, William and Clifford Thomas; sisters, Leona Maycock, Elizabeth Sones and Beatrice Sweet. Surviving are her daughter, Beatrice L. Fell, Kingston; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Baptist Tabernacle Church, Regent and Division Streets, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. William Frank will officiate. The funeral procession will leave the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Tabernacle Church.

Gitelson, Ita

Ita Gitelson, 82, of Monroe Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at Heritage House, where she was residing for five days.

She was born in the Ukraine, Russia.

Surviving are her son, Gary, Wilkes-Barre; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Cantor Ahron Abraham officiating. Interment will be in Temple B'nai B'rith Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Griffiths, Donna

Donna Gail Griffiths, 62, of Covered Bridge Road, Wendell, N.C., formerly of Raleigh, N.C., died Tuesday at the Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Born July 8, 1938, in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Ethel Francis. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School. She worked for Old Forge Manor, Wake County Headstart, Raleigh, and Pappa's Pizza, Scranton. She was a member of the Bethania Presbyterian Church, West Scranton.

She was preceded in death by her son, Theodore; and infant son, Thomas.

Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Theodore "Ted;" sons, Robert, Old Forge; Glenn, Knightdale, N.C.; and Tom, Wendell; daughters, Debra Cummings, Stansbury Park, Utah; Donna Lees, Scranton; and Linda Williams, Moosic; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Jordan, Scranton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Durkan-Cuff-Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Ave., West Scranton, with the Rev. Dr. Susan J. Ezell officiating. Interment will be in Old Forge Cemetery, Old Forge. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
