Margaret Jakubowski, 86, formerly of River Street, Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, died Tuesday at Valley Crest, Plains Township.~
Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Richards) Ottensman. She attended Nanticoke elementary schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; sister, Helen Shutt; and brothers, Leroy, Alfred and Edwin Ottensman.
Surviving are her daughter, Bertha Jezewski, Nanticoke; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Matilda Buhoski, Toms River, N.J.; nieces and nephews.
A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Irene Kornoski, of Pierce Street, Kingston, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born July 9, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Joann (Andruczyk) Golembeski. She attended Sugar Notch elementary schools and was a graduate of Sugar Notch High School. She operated J-D's Tavern, Kingston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert.
Surviving are her son, Mark, Harveys Lake; daughters, Joan Dorish, Kingston; Janet Shortz, Allentown; eight grandchildren; sister, Delphine Walsh, Kingston; nieces and nephews.
A private Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements were by the Straub Kane Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

Ralph J. Matukonis Sr., 82, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Nov. 28 at his home.
Born in the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Kegolis) Matukonis. He worked for the Federal Aviation Agency, Anchorage. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy M. Hughes.
Surviving are his sons, Ralph J., Jr., Raymond and John, all of Anchorage; daughter, Margaret Luten, Leesburg, Va.; six grandchildren; and sisters, Veronica and Valerie Matuchonis, both of Florida.
Funeral services and interment were by the Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary, Anchorage. Interment will be in Fort Richardson National Cemetery, Anchorage. Memorial donations may be made to Alaska Kidney Center Foundation, 4160 Tudor Centre Drive, Anchorage, Alaska, 99508.

Scott, Robert

Robert R. "Bob" Scott, of West Pittston, died Monday.
Born May 2, 1922, he was the son of the late Thomas and Beulah Scott. He worked for the Department of Corrections, Dallas. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal, participating with distinction in the European Theater, including Normandy, as a member of the 967th Field Artillery Battalion.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittston, Aid Association for Retired Persons, Big Band Society of Northeast Pennsylvania, Donegal Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 0243, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 04909 and the American Legion Post 0542. He was a also a member and governor of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1207 and received its Life Membership Award.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Shirley (Huber) Scott; second wife, Dorothy A.; daughter, Marsha Scott Gori; and brother, Thomas. Surviving are his daughters, Suzanne C. Smith, Palm Coast, Fla.; and Robin E. Padilla, Lewisburg; and five grandchildren~.~
Funeral arrangements are by the Recupero Funeral Home, West Pittston. Interment will be in the West Pittston Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Moose Lodge 1207, Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston.

Mary Irene (Bonczek) Stupak, 87, of Spruce Street, Avoca, died Tuesday at her home.
Born May 15, 1913, in Avoca, she was a daughter of the late William and Franceszka (Sipko) Bonczek. She attended Avoca public schools. She worked for various silk mills and Topps Chewing Gum Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J.; brothers, Michael, Edward, John, Stanley, Chester, Alex and Joseph Bonczek; and sisters, Irene Bonczek and Agnes Dettmer.
Surviving are her son, Joseph, Wallingford, Conn.; daughters, Carol Mackarevich, Mount Cobb; Edna Drasba, Port Jervis, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Getson, Endwell, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca,, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Church, Avoca. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Moosic. The Rev. Mark Bochinski will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Shamanski, Colonel Daniel Martin

Colonel Daniel Martin Shamanski, retired, 60, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Sunday at his residence.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of Alvina Shamanski, Voorhees, N.J.; and the late Walter Shamanski. He served in the U.S. Army, retiring as post commander of Fort Myer, Va. His awards include the Bronze Star for Valor, six other awards of the Bronze Star, two awards of the Purple Heart, Air Medals and seven Vietnam Service Medals.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Dorothy; son, Daniel, Jr., Mableton, Ga.; daughters, Jennifer Vogel, Birmingham, Ala.; and Dana Shamanski, Atlanta; and sister, Joan Derascavage, Cherry Hill, N.J.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 9 at Fort Myer Chapel, Virginia. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, 180 Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville.

Stephen Starcun, 76, of Willow Street, Plymouth, died Tuesday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Plymouth, he was a son of the late Peter and Katherine Starcun. He attended Plymouth schools. He worked for the Plymouth Borough Maintenance Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Simmons; sons, Peter and Stephen, Jr., both of Plymouth; daughters, Shirley Harry, Sweet Valley section of Ross Township; Sharon Maxwell, Plymouth; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and brother, Peter, Florida.

Born in Exeter, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna (Wisn~eck) Mislan. She was a member of St. John~ the Baptist Church, Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Andrew, Stephen, John, Michael, Joseph and Paul Mislan; and sisters, Ann Demchak, Mary VanOstrand, Margaret Wisneski and Irene Richards.~
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Catherine Garrity, 82, of East 76th Street, New York City, formerly of West Phillips Street, Coaldale, died Tuesday at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York.
Born in Coaldale, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (McGeehan) Bonner. She was a registered nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York.
Surviving are her husband, William; daughters, Anna Winkler, Lansford; and Mary Slaby, Dallas; two grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Bonner, Coaldale; John Bonner, Jim Thorpe; and James Bonner, Hometown; and sisters, Margaret and Elizabeth Bonner, both of Coaldale.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, First Street, Coaldale. Interment will be in St. Jerome's Cemetery, Tamaqua. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the August M. Gulla Funeral Home, Coaldale.
Haentjens, Walter

Walter Dietrich Haentjens, of Sugarloaf, died Wednesday at Hazleton-St. Joseph Medical Center.
Born July 25, 1921, in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Otto and Grete (Zinkernagel) Haentjens. He was a graduate of the Mining & Mechanical Institute, Freeland, 1943 graduate of Cornell University, with a degree of bachelor of mechanical engineering, and earned a master of science degree in mechanical Engineering from Case Institute of Applied Science, Cleveland, Ohio, now a part of Case Western Reserve University.
He was a centrifugal pump designer and the inventor of the first opposed impeller multi-stage centrifugal pump, a design which is still standard throughout the world. Several of his patents resulted from the work of designing reliable pumps for operation in areas of high radiation in government plutonium plants and in the pumping of radioactive wastes under extremely high radiation levels. Several pumps were developed and manufactured under government directive for emergency service. He accumulated 22 United States patents, in addition, two with his father and four with fellow employees.~~~~
~~He founded Barrett, Haentjens & Co., reorganized the company and assumed the presidency upon the death of his father. He became manager of special pumps and engineering services, later becoming assistant chief engineer and president. He was president of Weatherly Foundry & Manufacturing Co.
He established manufacturing plants in Beckley, W.Va., and Mulberry, Fla. Pumps were also manufactured in Australia, England and South Africa. All products were manufactured under the trade name of "Hazleton."
He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Mining & Metallurgical Engineers, and the American Foundrymen's Association. He was also a member of the British Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a registered professional engineer. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Member Award from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration.
He was a licensed pilot with single and multi-engine instrument and commercial ratings. He was a board member of the Hazleton Industrial Development Commission, (forerunner of CAN DO), the board of MMI Preparatory School, and was the first chairman of the Sugarloaf Township Zoning and Planning Commission. He was a member of the advisory board for the Center of Dredging Studies at Texas A & M University. He also was one of the original members of the Hazleton Airport Commission and helped bring the first commercial air service to Hazleton and member of the board of Pocono Airlines.
He was the director of WVIA-TV and WVIA-FM. He was a member of the Engineering Curriculum Review Committee for the Hazleton Campus of Pennsylvania University. He was a director of the Peoples Savings and Trust Co. and the Peoples First Eastern Bank & Trust Co., corporate board member and executive committee of First Eastern Corporation. He was a representative of United States attending British Hydrodynamic Research Association symposiums on hydraulic slurry transport, attending meetings in England, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Canada and Japan.
He served in the U.S. Army for three years. He was assigned to the Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he completed Officer Candidate School as a second lieutenant. As an engineer, he was assigned to the Cleveland Ordnance District of the U.S. Army. ~He served in several departments of the organization, was chief of the Control Division and member of the Board of Awards and Termination Settlements. He received the Army Commendation Medal. He left the service in 1946 with the rank of captain.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Peter.
Surviving are his second wife, the former Kathleen Shields; children, Margaret H. Stone, Parker~, Colo.; Walter D., Jr., Sugarloaf; Grove D., Philadelphia; Crete DeAngelo, Kingston; Gavin, Pittsburgh; Brendan and Colin, at home; four grandchildren and one nephew.
A Memorial Service will at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Joseph B. Conahan Funeral Home, 532 N. Vine Street, Hazleton. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to MMI Preparatory School.

Jeanne W. Heinbach, 80, of Harveys Lake, died Thursday at home.
Born April 27, 1920, in Bloomsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lyman and Rebecca (Stroh) William. She was a 1937 graduate of Laketon High School and received her business education degree from College Misericordia, Dallas Township. She taught business in the Donaldson High School, Tremont High School and the Everglades City High School, Florida. She was the oldest living original member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, member of its Altar and Rosary Society, and Mercy Center Auxiliary, Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; and brother, Myron Williams. Surviving are her brothers, Richard E. and Fayette K. Williams, both of Harveys Lake; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from Our Lady Of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Moran) Hoffman. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School. He was an electronics engineer for Wagner Electronics, Livingston, N.J. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Carteret.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary T. McMahon.
Surviving are his son, John M., Edison, N.J.; daughters, Karen Hoffman, Carteret; and Maureen Schmidt, Goodyear, Ariz.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Michael C. Krosofski, of Stock Street, Swoyersville, died Thursday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late Victor and Mary (Koval) Krosofski. He was a graduate of Edwardsville High School. He worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283, both of Kingston, and the Disabled American Veterans Pennsylvania Chapter 102.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Anthony; and sisters, Ann Krosofski and Cecelia Johnson.
Surviving are his wife, the former Helen E. Dolecki; sister, Elizabeth Kurisky, Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.

Ernest P. Sannipoli, 62, of Denville, N.J., died Thursday at his home.Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Clara Sannipoli, Plains Township. He received an associate degree in mechanical drafting from Penn State University. He was an ECAD designer for Allied Signal, Teterboro, N.J., and consultant at Lucent Technology, Mount Olive, N.J. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Denville. He was an umpire for the Denville Little League.
