James David Hankey III, 7, of West Mountain Road, Plymouth, died Tuesday morning, June 13, 2000, at home.
Born Sept. 27, 1992, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of James Jr. and Ann (Brodi) Hankey. He was a student in Mrs. Gorman's second grade class at Chester Street Elementary School, Kingston. He was a member of the First Communion Class 2000, St. Vincent de Paul Church, Plymouth. He was a participant in the Plymouth Little League, Plymouth Youth Soccer, and a member of the Penguins Kid Fan Club. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents: David Williams, Fred and Margaret Hankey.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his grandparents, James and Judy Hankey Sr., Edwardsville; Francis Brodi, Larksville; and Christina Brodi, New Jersey; great-grandparents, Bernadine and George Brodi, Larksville; Elizabeth Williams, Edwardsville; and Olga Adams, New Jersey; uncle, Francis Brodi; Godparents, Anthony Wychock and Rebecca Campbell; and his three dogs, Bosco, Bailey and Bristol.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Chur~ch, 101 Church St., Plymouth. Friends may call at the Church from 2 to 4, and 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Llewellyn P. Johns, 80, of Edwardsville, died Tuesday at the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a patient since Sunday.
Born in the former Borough of Parsons, he was the son of the late Henry and Ann (Perrott) Johns. He attended the Wilkes-Barre schools and worked for the Capone Mining Co. and the No. 5 Colliery, Delaware and Hudson Coal Co., both of Wilkes-Barre, and was a service man for the Burroughs Co., Bridgeport, Conn., and for the Dupont Corp., Fairfield, Conn. From 1942 to 1948, he served with the U.S. Merchant Marine/U.S. Coast Guard. He lived in Bridgeport and Fairfield for 56 years and returned to Wyoming Valley in 1996. He was a member of the Parsons Welsh Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Clara Evangelisti; son, Richard L., Huntington, Conn.; and two granddaughters.
A private funeral service will be held Thursday at the convenience of the family from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Anita Ambrose will officiate. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Howard F. Johnston, 85, of West Tioga St., Tunkhannock, died Tuesday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth (Aitken) Johnston. He was a 1932 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and 1936 graduate of Penn State University. He was a sales manager of the Eastern Transport Division of Dearborn Chemical Co. Division of W.R. Grace Co. and was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Tunkhannock Presbyterian Church, Dennis Strong American Legion Post, Tunkhannock Kiwanis Club and Triton Hose Co.
Surviving are his companion of many years, Sara Weber; and brother, Robert, Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Karshner.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Robert Hooper officiating. Donald L. Jones, of Pellam Terrace, Kunkle, formerly of Kingston, died Sunday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Scranton, he was a son of Evalyncq (Whitman) Jones, of Edwardsville, and the late John B. Jones. He was a graduate of Kingston High School and Maryland Institute of Art and was a teacher in the Baltimore Area Schools and resident adviser at Red Rock Job Corps. He was a member of the Kunkle United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his son, Jeffrey, Portland, Ore.; one grandson; and brother, Dale W., Panama City, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Michael Wills officiating. She was preceded in death by her husband, David.
Surviving is her daughter, Sofia Adamovich, Israel; sons, Jacob, Kingston; and Poman, Chicago; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Burial was held in Israel. Shiva will be observed at the home of her son Jacob, 96 E. Walnut St., Kingston, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.

Rosemary Lindwedel, 78, of Harrison Street, Hazleton, died Monday at the Hazleton General Hospital.
Born Sept 26, 1921, in Hazleton, she was a daughter of late Rocco (Longo) Longone and Angela (Cutro) Longo. She was a school custodian at Bishop Haffey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; brothers, Frank and Joseph; sisters, Carmella Zullian and Nicoletta Wizda.
Surviving are her daughter, Regina Phillips, Wilkes-Barre; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Mary Cessario, Hazleton, and Christina Matz, Hazleton; and brother, Philip Longo, New Jersey.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton. Interment will be in the Golden Gate Cemetery, San Francisco. Funeral arrangements will be by the John B. DiPronio Funeral Home, Inc., 314 E. Third St., Hazleton.

Born Feb. 28, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Elizabeth (McNeil) Hess. She was a member of Holy Name-St. Mary's Church, Swoyersville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; and son, David.
Surviving are her sons, Lawrence, Jr., Wilkes-Barre; Jeffrey and Richard, both at home; and Joseph, West Wyoming; daughter, Darlene Keener, Kingston; four grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Koscelnak, Gibson; and several nieces and nephews.

William F. Purcell, 75, of Harveys Lake, died Monday at the Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 7, 1925, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Walters) Purcell. He was an eagle scout, a 1943 graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, and earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Wilkes College. He was a businessman in Back Mountain, constable for Harveys Lake Borough and a police officer for Harveys Lake Borough, Jackson Township and Lehman Township. He was an U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Margaret O'Boyle; sons, William F., Jr., Wilkes-Barre; Joseph, Harveys Lake; and James, Dallas; daughter, Margaret Smith, Carlisle; brothers, James L., Esq. and Robert L., both of Long Island; sister, Mary Siani, Warren, N.J.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Quadro, 65, of Washington Avenue, West Wyoming, died Tuesday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Agnes (Latko) Bonomo. She was a 1953 graduate of Coughlin High School and was an operations clerk for Pennsylvania Gas and Water, now PG Energy. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony Bonomo.
Surviving are her husband, Anthony P., Sr.; son, Anthony P., Jr., Stahlstown; daughters, Tracy Ann Walk, Cumberland, Maine; and Cynthia Quadro Ott, Allentown; five grandchildren; brother, Joseph Bonomo, Pittston; sister, Yolando Bonomo, Plains Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Sister M. Charlotte Russell, RSM, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died Tuesday at Mercy Center, Dallas.
The former Dorothy Russell was born Feb. 29, 1908, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Williams) Russell. She was a graduate of St. Agnes High School, Towanda, and earned a bachelor's degree from College Misericordia, Dallas Township, and a Masters degree in Latin from Fordham University, New York. She entered the Sisters of Mercy and made profession of vows. She taught in the elementary and secondary schools in several dioceses including Scranton and Brooklyn, N.Y. She also was a faculty member of College Misericordia.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Joseph Russell; foster mother and aunt, Mary Russell Frantz; and foster sister, Mary Frantz McDowell.
Surviving are her half sisters, Ruth Benci, Rices Landing; and Barbara Berch, Columbia, S.C.; and cousins.
Transferal to Blessed Sacrament Chapel will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mercy Center with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. The viewing will be from 2 p.m. until after the service at the chapel. A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township. Charles F. Scouten, 77, of Benton, died Tuesday at Dorrance Manor, Kingston.
Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Noxen, he was a son of the late Frank and Bertha (Carpenter) Scouten. He attended the Noxen schools and worked for General Motors, Linden, N.J. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Guy, Granville, Welford, James, Theodore and Floyd; and sisters, May, Sylvia and Mildred.
Surviving are his sisters, Thelma Ross, Luzerne; Myrle Ritchie, Gainesville, Fla.; and brother, Carl, Houtzdale; several nieces and nephews.

Robert F. Strein, 80, of West Mary Street, Old Forge, died Monday at the Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Taylor, he was a son of the late Frederick and Wilda (Ace) Strein. He was a 1940 graduate of the Taylor High School and worked at Topps, Inc., Duryea. He was a member of St. Mary's of the Assumption Church, Old Forge, its Holy Name Society and the Old Forge Retired Senior Citizens' Association.
Surviving are his daughters, Margcq Strein and Mary Ellen Stacchiotti, both of Old Forge; three grandchildren; brother, Herman, Avoca; nieces and nephews.

Jeanne F. Zagorski, 92, formerly of Plymouth, died at the Mercy Center, Dallas, where she resided for many years.
Born June 26, 1907, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Pelagia "Pearl" (Krystopa) Zagorski. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and was a manager at Zimmerman's Bridal, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of St. Mary's-St. Stephen's Church Community, Plymouth, and its Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Stanley and Peter Strojny; sisters, Lottie Strojny, Agnes Bresnahan and Celia O'Connell.
Surviving are her nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at the Mercy Center, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friends may call from 10:30 Thursday. He was a saloon keeper of Boris' Bar and was a Wilkes-Barre city councilman. He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his son, Butchy.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lu Ann Yencha; sons, Al, Joe, John and Paul; daughters, Ann, Mary, Bonnie and Beth; and 10 grandchildren.

Born in Dupont, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sophie (Lubacz) Marzec. She attended Dupont schools and worked in the area garment industry. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers, Peter, Louis, Stanley and Frank; and sisters, Mary Laurence, Julie Bednarz and Anna Bryla.
Surviving are her son, John, Dupont; daughter, Donna Holly, Duryea; one grandson; brother, John Marzec, Florida; sister, Helen Tochney, Hughestown; nieces and nephews.

Anne J. Connolly, 87, of Florida, formerly of Pringle, died Tuesday at the Bayfront Medical Center, Florida.
Born Sept. 25, 1912, in Pringle, she was a daughter of the late Timothy J. and Delia (Baines) Connolly. She was a graduate of Pringle High School and College Misericordia. She was a teacher at Pringle High School and was an engineer for the federal government in Hawaii and Washington, D.C. She was a member St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and the Society of American Mechanical Engineers.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, William S., John A. and Gerald.
Surviving are her sisters, Dorothy, Kingston; Margaret, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
