Elizabeth Jane Lennon, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.

Born July 8, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Orval and Edna (Edwards) Rogers. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a nurse at the Nanticoke State Hospital. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Nurses Association and First Church of Christ, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are her daughter, Laurie Lennon, Kingston; two grandchildren; sister, Ann Adele Cable, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and stepsister, Lois Shonk, Kingston.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Frederick & Snowdon Funeral Home, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. William G. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton section of Franklin Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Reed, Edward
Jan. 8, 2001

Edward T. Reed, 65, of Harding, formerly of Kingston and Exeter, died Monday at his home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Devlin) Reed. He was a graduate of St. Michael's High School. He was a safety manager for the Department of Public Welfare at the Clarks Summit State Hospital and was self-employed as a private investigator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and served two tours during the Vietnam Era. He obtained the rank of major and was awarded the Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, South Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Distinguished Flying Cross, Combat Infantry Badge and the Senior Parachutist Badge.

He was a member of St. Cecilia's Church, Exeter, Retired Officers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member and president of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former, Ann M. Harrison, Harding; daughter and son-in-law, Aine and John Thomas, Harding, with whom he resided; daughters, Lois Nye, Midland, Texas; and Earlene Fernandes, Exeter; son, Ronald, Plains Township; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Peg Searles, Kingston Township; brother, John, Montague, Calif.; and James, Santo, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

A military funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church. The Rev. Daniel D. Hitchko will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kingston Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Northeast Hospice Unit, 38 N. Main St., Pittston, 18640.

Karpien, Helen
Jan. 8, 2001

Helen M. Karpien, 90, of Skidmore Street, Hudson section of Plains Township, died Monday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township.

Aregood, John
Jan. 9, 2001

John Sterling Aregood, 48, of Hanover Township, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born July 8, 1952, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Doris (Horlacher) Hannis, Hanover Township, and the late Sterling Aregood. He attended Hanover High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his sisters, Sharon McNeill and Ruth Rushton, both of Hanover Township; and Catherine Fuller, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces, nephews and aunts.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Arrangements are by the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.

Welch, Wilbur
Jan. 9, 2001

Wilbur A. Welch, 69, of Hanover Township, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Oct. 18, 1931, in Hanover Township, he was a son of the late Charles and Alva (Davis) Welch. He worked for Penn Refrigeration and was a foreman at Pioneer Manufacturing. He was a member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a sexton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Jean.

Surviving are his son, David Alan, Hanover Township; one grandson; brothers, William Charles, Virginia; Clark, Allentown; and Willard, Lee Park section of Hanover Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. George Johnson will officiate. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no procession to the Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday.

Kolojeski, Jeffery
Jan. 9, 2001

Jeffery J. Kolojeski, 44, of East Chestnut Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of James Kolojeski, Delaware, and Emily (Marko) Crane, Milwaukee. He attended Wyoming Area High School. He was self-employed as a carpenter.

Surviving are his children, Christian and Matthew, both of Wilkes-Barre; Tiffany Yale and Adam Sandroski, both of Exeter; sister, Nancy Fischer, Milwaukee; and brothers, Gregory, Winter Springs, Fla.; Neil, Exeter; and Keith, Inkerman section of Jenkins Township.

A Christian Wake service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with the Rev. Michael Piccola officiating. Interment will be private. Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Horn, Eleanor
Jan. 7, 2001

Eleanor C. Horn, 79, of Ninth Street, Upland, died Sunday at the family home.

Born Aug. 10, 1921, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Kowatz) Suprum. She was a waitress for Ro-Lyn Restaurant and worked for the Drug Center, Brook Haven. She was a member of St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth. She was a former Girl Scout leader.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Harold E.; daughters, Antoinette Snell, Aston Township; and Catherine Hipkins, Hagerstown, Md.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, John Suprum, Bear, Del.; and Anthony Suprum, Parsippany, N.J.; sisters, Mary Bat, Severna Park, Md.; Stella Sheikh, California; and Dolores Turchanik, Boyertown; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Blvd., Upland, 19013; or to the Hospice at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center.

Babula, Walter
Jan. 8, 2001

Walter J. Babula, of Lidy's Road, Dupont, died Monday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Dupont, he was a son of the late John and Victoria (Novak) Babula. He worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, Amvets Post 189 and American Legion Post 657.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lottie Chrobak and Cassie Kutyna; and brother, Joseph.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Silvonek; son, Dr. Walt, Fairbanks, Alaska; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Stephen M. Lokuta Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwood. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. The Amvets and American Legion will conduct military services Thursday morning.

Morrison, Martha
Jan. 9, 2001

Martha J. Morrison, formerly of West Street, Tunkhannock, died Tuesday at the Carpenter Care Center, Tunkhannock.

Born Aug. 21, 1910, in Grove City, she was a daughter of the late George and Flora (Dye) McConnell. She was a 1928 graduate of Sandy Lake High School and graduate of the Pittsburgh Business College. She attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Tunkhannock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; granddaughter, Janna Johnson; and sister, Ada Rhoads.

Surviving are her son, Gary, San Antonio, Texas; daughters, Pamela Nichols, Madisonville, Ky.; and Robin Kulp, Aiken, S.C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be held at the Maple Hill Crematory, Hanover Township. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.

Cooney, Marion
Dec. 31, 2000

Marion L. Cooney, 58, of Alexandria, Va., died Dec. 31 at Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.

Born in Panama, she was a daughter of the late John P. and Barbara (Disque) Cooney. She was a medical secretary with Commonwealth Orthopedic and Rehabilitation, Reston, Va.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Surviving are her brothers, James, Sweet Valley section of Ross Township; Joseph, Pikes Creek; Thomas, Trucksville section of Kingston Township; and Lewis, Springfield, Va.; sisters, Barbara A. Farr, Waldorf, Md.; Helen T. Cooney, Winston-Salem, N.C.; Mildred Cooney, Plains Township; and Kathryn Bailey, Dothan, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held by the family at a future date. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Funeral arrangements were by the Huntt Funeral Home, Waldorf.

O'Neill, Edmund
Jan. 9, 2001

Edmund J. O'Neill, 88, of Academy Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Feb. 7, 1912, in Ashley, he was a son of the late Edmund and Helena (Eckert) O'Neill. He attended Newtown schools. He worked for the railroad during World War II and United Rehabilitation Services, Wilkes-Barre, and in various local shoe factories, including A. Geller, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kerryncq O'Neill; brothers, Clarence and Harry; and sisters, Helene, Laura and Ruth.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marion Schaefer; son, Dr. Edmund J. and Robert B., both of Wilkes-Barre; and Ronald J., Philadelphia; daughter, Gale M. Flaherty, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and brother, Ralph, Iselin, N.J.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Stasia Kowalski

Jan. 10, 2001

Stasia Kowalski, 81, of Italy Street, Mocanaqua, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, where she had been a patient for one day.

Born Oct. 16, 1919, in Mocanaqua, she was a daughter of the late John and Frances (Magerowicz) Wojciechowicz. She was employed by the former Kerstetter Silk Mill and later by the former King's Sportswear, both of Mocanaqua, and last worked for the former Ronnie Dress Factory, Shickshinny, from which she retired in 1982. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, and was a member of the church's Altar and Rosary Society. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Kowalski, who died Feb. 9, 2000; granddaughter, Hollyann Priestman; and also by brothers, John and Stanley Wojciechowicz; and by sisters, Frances McGuire and Joann Vestor.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Marie) Cargill, Berwick; grandchildren, Ann, Erin, and Richard T. Priestman; brothers, Bolester Wojciechowicz, West Palm Beach, Fla.; and Chester Wojciechowicz, McKees Rocks; sisters, Pearl Roskoski, Clifton, N.J.; and Clementine Everett, Mocanaqua; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, from St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, with the Rev. Thomas Skotek, as celebrant. Burial was in the parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by the Mayo Funeral Home, Shickshinny.

Wycoski, Donna Marie
Jan. 8, 2001

Donna Marie Wycoski, 45, of Wahiawa, Hawaii, formerly of Duryea, died Monday at her home.

Born in Taylor, she was the daughter of Louis Wycoski, Duryea, and the late Eugenia (Grala) Wycoski. She was a graduate of Pittston Area High School. She worked for Owens-Illinois.

Surviving, in addition to her father, are her brother, Eugene, Exeter; one niece and one nephew.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. The Rev. Charles Rokosz will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Hunter Sr., Albert
Jan. 11, 2001

Albert Hunter Sr., 57, of Cooks Trailer Park, Tunkhannock, died Thursday at Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born Feb. 16, 1943, in Hunlock Creek, he was a son of the late William C. and Dorothy (Knight) Hunter. He was a truck driver.

Surviving are his daughters, Patty Hoyt, with whom he resided; and Penny Hunter, Houston, Texas; sons, Albert, Jr., Dallas; and A.J. Hunter, Houston; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Robert, Hunlock Creek; Wayne, Hanover Township; and William, Exeter; and sisters, Beverly Hunsinger and Betty Hunter, both of Hunlock Creek; and Lois Shaughnessy, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 p.m. this evening at the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Glen Goss officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening.

Wagner, Mariam
Jan. 9, 2001

Mariam Wagner, 80, of Gilbert, Ariz., formerly of Bloomingdale, died Tuesday at Cooks Cottage, Gilbert.

Born Oct. 7, 1920, in the Sweet Valley section of Ross Township, she was a daughter of the late William A. and Virginia (Long) Farver. She was a member of the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R.; sisters, Beula Benscoter, Edna Simmons, Leona Wolfe and Geraldine DeWald; and brothers, Irven, Harland, Joseph, Raymond, Paul and Otis.

Surviving are her daughter, Janis Dean, Gilbert; son, Robert, Lawrenceville; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Raymond Purdy officiating. Interment will be in Bloomingdale Cemetery, Bloomingdale. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service Saturday. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Almeda A. Space, 73, of South Mountain, died Wednesday at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born July 10, 1927, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ellen (Casterline) Vanderburg. She worked at the South Mountain State Hospital, South Mountain. She was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, Jr.; son, Gary; and grandson, Troy.

Surviving are her son, Ralph H., III, Duncannon; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Blisseck, Wilkes-Barre; and Joan Staley, South Mountain; brother, Harry "Bucky" Vanderburg, Toms River, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Capt. Gilbert R. Parkhurst officiating. Interment will be in Blakeslee Cemetery, Tobyhanna Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.
