Johanna M. Stout, 85, formerly of Fairview Park, Fairview Township, Mountaintop, died Thursday at Davis Manor, Wright Township.
Born Nov. 4, 1915, in West Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hedschle) Devitt. She was a member of the former St. Catherine's Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Edward "Ned;" and four sisters.
Surviving are her daughter, Marlene Toll, Marblehead, Mass.; sons, Dr. Kenneth, Lafayette Hill; and James, Butler Township; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 19 at St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Mountaintop. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the McCune Funeral Home Inc., Mountaintop.

Leona E. Woychio, 75, of East Noble Street, Nanticoke, died Thursday at her home.
Born June 21, 1925, in Hunlock Creek, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Tillie (Kruskevitz) Ketz. She was a member of St. Francis Church, Nanticoke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and brother, Eugene.
Surviving is her son, Duane, Nanticoke.
Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, Nanticoke.

Joseph Lacomis, of Penn Avenue, Dupont, died Friday at East Mountain Manor, Plains Township.
Born in Connecticut, he was a son of the late Stanley and Anna Lacomis.
He was a veteran of World War II, receiving a Bronze Star medal.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, Dupont, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909, Dupont, and the AmVets Post 189.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Pastula; and brothers, Frank, John and Eugene.
Surviving are his daughter, Rose, and son, Joseph, both of Dupont; brothers, Edward, Dupont; and William, Plains Township.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Stephen M. Lokuta Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont, with a Mass of Christian of Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. The AmVets and Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military services.
Interment will be in the parish Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Rev. Richard Wayde Beishline, 80, of Liverpool, died Saturday at the Francis House, Syracuse, N.Y.
He was born in Stillwater. He was a 1938 graduate of Huntington Mills High School, a 1942 graduate of Syracuse University and attended Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He was the former director of programs for the American Lung Association and director of parenting programs for the YMCA, Syracuse. He was a pastor of several area churches, including the Plymouth Congregational Church, Plymouth. He was a member of the Malden Road United Church of Christ, Syracuse, and the Liverpool First Presbyterian Church, Liverpool, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Barbara Robinson; daughters, Laurie Sanderson, Syracuse; and Sherry McCormick, Yorktown, Va.; and son, Terry, Syracuse.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church United, 620 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, Stillwater. Tessie Broski, 83, of Camp Hill, formerly of Nanticoke, died Sunday at the Camp Hill Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 26, 1917, in Nanticoke. She attended the Nanticoke public schools. She worked for the A. Rifkin Corp., Hanover Township. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Nanticoke, and the East Pennsboro Senior Citizens Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clem; brothers, Joseph and Walter Grochowski; and sister, Myrtle Sutta.
Surviving are her daughter, Camille Kramer, with whom she resided; one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-grandson; brothers, Harold Grochowski, Westminster, Md.; and Ray Stevens, Flagstaff, Ariz.; and sister, Theresa Fretz, Malvern; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Milton Keen Cornell, 64, of Naples, Fla., and Pocono Lake, Pa., died on Jan. 14, 2001, following an illness.
He was the son of Milton Longacre and Mary (Gaston) Cornell, of Malba, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Slocum) Cornell; his brother, Louis L. Cornell, of Fairlee, Vt.; five children, Katharine Gorka, of Budapest, Hungary; Christopher Slocum, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; James Cornell, of Boston, Mass.; Eleanor Gottwald, of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; and Andrew Cornell, of Glen Summit, Pa.; and 12 grandchildren.
Mr. Cornell was active in conservation and served the Conservancy of Southwestern Florida, the Collier County Environmental Advisory Council, the Mangrove Action Group of Pelican Bay, Pocono Lake Preserve, The Tobyhanna Creek Watershed Association and The Nature Conservancy, Pennsylvania Chapter.
He was president of Cornell Iron Works Inc., a building products company based in Mountaintop, Pa., until his retirement in 1997. The firm is an award-winning, family-owned business, which was established in 1828 in New York City. Mr. Cornell earned an MBA degree from Wilkes University in 1983; he graduated from Harvard College in 1958 and received a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Harvard in 1959. He was a graduate of Taft School. He had been both an elder and a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make a contribution to the organization of their choice. A memorial gathering will be held in Pennsylvania.

Campbell, Ann

Ann R. Campbell, 89, of New Milford, Conn., formerly of Wilkes-Barre and Allentown, died Sunday at New Milford Hospital.
Born June 1, 1911, in McAdoo, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Hannah Brennan. She was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary's Keller Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and obtained a master's degree in education from New York University in 1950. She was a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital, New York City. In 1943, she entered the U.S. Army as a general duty nurse, serving in the Rhineland, Northern France and the Central Europe campaigns until December, 1945. She was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and was discharged as a first lieutenant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John P.
Surviving are her son, Joseph J., Redding, Conn.; two grandchildren, John, Hilton Head, S.C.; and Allison, Redding.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Siena, Allentown. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Local arrangements are by the Weir Funeral Home, 1802 W. Turner St., Allentown. Memorial donations may be made to our local chapter of the American Lung Association.

Audrey Dukes, formerly of East Northampton Street, Laurel Run, died Monday at Valley Crest, Plains Township.
Born in Laurel Run, she was a daughter of the late Evan and Anna (Martin) Dukes. She attended the Laurel Run schools. She was a member of the Laurel Run Primitive Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Esther Davis, Alice Higgins and Margaret Dukes; and brothers, Charles, Clyde, Glen and John.
Surviving are her sister, Pearl Lounsberry, Wilkes-Barre; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville section of Kingston Township. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

Earl A. Ford, of Ebervale, died Saturday at Hazleton General Hospital.
Born in Jeanesville, he was a son of the late Adam and Edith (Acker) Ford. He was a self-employed produce distributor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, formerly Christ's Memorial United Church of Christ, West Hazleton.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Adam.
Surviving are his son, Richard Arnade, Vineland, N.J.; and his caregiver, Margaret Daniels.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today from the Beltz-Petrilli Funeral Home, 235 E. Broad St., Hazleton, with the Rev. M. Jane Hess officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Laurel Memorial Park, Hazleton. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Anna M. Fetchko, 78, formerly of Charles Street, Luzerne, died Sunday at Hospice Community Care Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 31, 1922, in Luzerne, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Anna (Jacobs) Fetchko. She was a 1940 graduate of Luzerne High School. She was a packer for the Armour and Swift Meat Packing Co., Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of St. John's Holy Family Parish, Luzerne, and the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Black Diamond Post 395, Kingston.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard T. and John S.
Surviving are her brother, Joseph, with whom she resided; one aunt, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the George A. Strish Funeral Home, 269 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, Luzerne. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.
Kasarda, John

John A. (Kiss) Kasarda, 92, formerly of Oak Street, Tresckow, died Sunday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Nursing Facility, Plains Township, where he was a resident for the last seven years.
Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Johnson) Kasarda. He worked in the local coal industry and for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 329th Combat Engineers of the 104th Timber Wolf Division in the African, French, Belgian, Holland and German Campaigns. He was awarded the Bronze Star with three battle stars and the Purple Heart and was cited for gallantry.
He played ball with the Bratzo League, was on many local church teams and the Hazleton Softball Leagues. He was manager of the Little League, Junior Tri-County League, Big Brothers Club and Babe Ruth League and participated in training youth. He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Tresckow where he was involved with church functions.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Francis and Steven; and sisters, Mary Lench, Dolores Kracun, Helen and Catherine.
Surviving are his brothers, Joseph, Ebervale; and Anthony, Hazleton; sisters, Anna Rohrer, Baltimore; Marcella Pavlinsky, Danbury, Conn.; and Sister Ancilla, Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today from the Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542-544 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton. Interment will be in St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Sister M. Xavier Loughney, RSM, a member of the Dallas Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died Monday at Mercy Center, Dallas.
The former Mary Rita Loughney was born Jan. 21, 1902, in Sugar Notch, a daughter of the late Michael and Bridget (Dougherty) Loughney. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre, and received a bachelor of arts degree in secondary education from College Misericordia. She entered the Sisters of Mercy, Dallas, Sept. 24, 1926, and pronounced her vows Aug. 16, 1929.
She taught in the elementary schools in the diocese of Scranton at St. Gabriel, Hazleton, St. Joseph and St. Mary, Wilkes-Barre; in the diocese of Brooklyn, N.Y., at St. Anastasia, Douglaston, N.Y., Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament, Bayside, N.Y.; and St. Kevin, Flushing, N.Y.; and in the diocese of Rockville Center, N.Y., at St. Joseph, Babylon, N.Y.; St. Martin of Tours, Bethpage, N.Y.; and St. Aloysius, Great Neck, N.Y. In 1987 she entered the prayer ministry at Mercy Center.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Michael, Martin, Gerald, Joseph, Edward, Jerome and Peter; and sister, Thrasilla Evans.
Surviving are her nieces.
Transferal to Mercy Center will be at 1 p.m. Thursday with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. in the chapel. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton section of Kingston Township. Arrangements are by the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
