Mary Krawczuk, of Hazle Street, Swoyersville, died Sunday at her home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Sabina (Fetkiw) Krawczuk. She attended Wilkes-Barre schools and was a 1936 graduate of Coughlin High School. She worked as a cook at King's College, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville, and the Northeast Wilkes-Barre Senior Citizens.

Surviving are her daughter, Daria Kapalka, with whom she resided; sister, Anne Harris, Luzerne; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Mary A. Harostock Funeral Home, 480 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Jane J. Lidzbarski, formerly of Lynch Lane, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha (Coogan) Mahon. She was a 1947 graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She worked for Isaac Longs, Pomeroy's, the Clothes Horse, and the Kiddie Shoppe, all of Wilkes-Barre.

Mary K. Minnig, 84, formerly of Moyer's Grove, died Sunday at the Berwick Retirement Village 1.Born Oct. 6, 1916, in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Olive (Howland) Krantz. She worked for War Supply Manufacturing and for Metroglass Co., both in New Jersey. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, Slocum; St. James Lutheran Community Club, Hobbie; Emmanuel United Church of Christ Twilighters, Dorrance; and the Glass Bottle Blowers of America.

Theresa (Butalewicz) Sedlak, 76, formerly of Gateway Apartments, Edwardsville, died Sunday at the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Care Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Lillian Butalewicz. She was a secretary at King's College. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston.

Michael Vital, 89, of Hanover Township, died Sunday at his home.Born Jan. 10, 1912, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Amelia Vital. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Wilkes-Barre. He attended Wilkes-Barre schools. He owned Vital Scrap Yard, Wilkes-Barre.

Wayda, Anna

Anna Wayda, 93, of Scranton, died Saturday at the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice of Lackawanna County after a brief illness.Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Znosko) Poplawski. She worked in the garment industry. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, West Scranton, and its Altar and Rosary Society, and St. Ann's Confraternity of the Passion.

Joan Benscoter, 69, of Benscoter Road, Shickshinny, died Sunday at Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born Oct. 16, 1931, in Hunlock Creek, she was a daughter of Vera Kulp, Benscoter Road, Shickshinny, and the late Rev. Oscar Kulp. She was a member of the Roaring Brook Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her daughter, Estella Naugle, Hunlock Creek; sons, Lionel and Mark, both of Hunlock Creek; and Willard, Coaldale; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Lois Marvin and Sue Martin, both of Hunlock Creek; and Marjorie Iverson, California; and brothers, Thomas Kulp, Alabama; and Barry Kulp, New York.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Roaring Brook Baptist Church at Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Dan Brubaker officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery at Oakdale, Hunlock Township. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.

Ruth I. Burnside, 67, of Bear Creek Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Aug. 13, 1933, in Bear Creek, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Ruch) Hendershot. She attended the Bear Creek schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew; son, Robert; and brother, Robert Hendershot.

Surviving are her daughters, Ruth Ann Galli, at home; and Donna I. Jones, Sweet Valley section of Ross Township; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson; brothers, Russell Hendershot, Bucks Township; and Raymond Hendershot, Plains Township; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with services conducted by the Rev. Reginald H. Thomas. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton section of Franklin Township. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Chuba, John

John J. Chuba, 61, of South Jefferson Road, Whippany, N.J., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at his residence.

Born June 21, 1939, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Michael S. and Anna (Salanci) Chuba. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and St. Mary's High School, both of Wilkes-Barre. He was a mail handler for 33 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Summit and Whippany, N.J., retiring in 2000, and worked for the death by his brother, Emil.

Surviving are his brother, Andrew, Wilkes-Barre; sisters, Helen Troiani, Glassboro, N.J.; and Ceil Koneski, Ashley; and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services were held Monday from the John V. Morris Funeral Home, 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Joseph T. Gilbert officiated. Interment was in the parish Cemetery, Dallas. Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart/St. John's Parish Community, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 18705.

Davis, Robert

Robert Davis, 77, of Park Street, West Pittston, died Saturday at his home.

Born in West Pittston, he was a son of the late Edward J. and Eva (Steiner) Davis. He was a graduate of West Pittston High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted with the U.S. Marines and later enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, where he served until retirement.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward and Thomas; and sisters, Doris Moran and Maude Davis.

Surviving are his brother, William, Bradford; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held privately. Arrangements were by the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Rome, 1030 Wyoming Ave. Exeter.

Frederick, Elizabeth

Elizabeth "Betty" Frederick, 70, of Walnut Street, Forty Fort, died Monday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.

Born March 30, 1930, in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Labatch) Straub. She was a member of St. Hedwig's Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; brother, Joseph, Jr.; and sister, Florence O'Keefe.

Surviving are her son, John, Jr., Forty Fort; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Thomas Straub, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and Leonard Straub, Glen Lyon section of Newport Township.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Straub Kane Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. There will be no calling hours.

Gatto, Concetta

Concetta "Kate" Gatto, of Old Forge, died Sunday at Moses Taylor Hospital.

Born in Carltinassetta, Sicily, she was a daughter of the late Angelo and Maria (Migliore) Montante. She was a member of St. Lawrence O'Toole Church, Old Forge, and president of the Nino Montante Chapter of Disabled American Veterans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; sisters, Margaret Giambra, Maggie Barrille, Anna Reggie and Nellie Butera; and brothers, Chester, Peter, Sam and Nino; and stepson, Rosario "Ross" Gatto.

Surviving are her stepson, Vito "Vince" Gatto, Hughestown; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren, sister, Mary Domonick, Buffalo, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Jacob Davis Funeral Home, 422 S. Main St., Taylor, with a Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Lawrence O'Toole Church. Interment will be in Old Forge Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. this evening. There will be a wake service on Tuesday, with the Rev. Michael Kirwin officiating.

She was born in West Pittston, June 24, 1921, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Lewis) Hastie. She graduated from West Pittston High School and Wilkes Barre Business College. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Underwriters Insurance Company, Forty Fort. She was a member of Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pahl, May 7, 1981; and brothers, John, Lewis and Harold Hastie.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert G. Pahl, Ph.D., Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Susan M. Allan, Kingston; grandchildren, Saraycq Allan, Ted Allan and Christine Allan, Angie Pahl, Danny Pahl and Alex Pahl.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Pastor Doris Gunderson, of the Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Burial Park at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday morning from 10:30 until service time at 11 a.m.
