Martha I. Campana, 86, of 1430 Grampian Blvd. died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, John P. Campana, observed their 47th wedding anniversary Nov. 22. She retired in 1978 after 17 years as proprietor of the former Town Tavern. She was a life member of the Women’s Democratic Club and a Democratic committee woman in this city and Loyalsock Township. She was a volunteer at Divine Providence Hospital and a former member of its auxiliary. She was a member of Ladies of the Moose Lodge 145. Born Aug. 29, 1913, in White Deer Township, she was a daughter of John and Elizabeth Fike Farley. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Robert A. Young of Mechanicsburg and Roland E. Young of this city; three daughters, Ruth S. Groulx, Roberta A. Leta and Gina M., all of this city; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Mausoleum. Howard A. Crouse
The funeral was Wednesday in Florida, for Howard A. Crouse, 60, a city native, who died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in Tampa, Fla., where he lived for 10 years. Surviving are a brother, Harry, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleamor Clark Crouse, in 1998.
Kathryn E. Goss
Kathryn E. Goss, 82, formerly of Broad Street, Montoursville, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Sycamore Manor, where she had lived for almost a year. Her husband, Elwood L. Goss, died Jan. 17, 1986. She was a member and past president of Montoursville Garden Club and Montoursville Senior Citizens. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church its altar and rosary societies. Born Jan. 28, 1918, she was a daughter of James and Ella Hickey Conway. Surviving are two sons, Richard L. of York and John A. of Ralston, Neb.; a daughter, Carolee Barnes of this city; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
Eleanor B. Lagerman
Eleanor B. Lagerman, 83, of 1051 W. Market St., Treverton, mother of a city woman, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at home. Her husband, Clement A. Lagerman, died Feb. 19, 1990. She attended Shamokin schools. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Treverton. Born Dec. 11, 1916, in Gowen City, she was a daughter of Harvey and Helen Kerstetter Rebuck. Surviving are six sons, Clement J. of Somerville, N.J., Daniel of Selinsgrove, David of Long Inland, N.Y., Michael of Sunbury, Paul of Treverton and Timothy of Paxinos RR 1; six daughters, Claire Orthodox of Orlando, Fla., Rita Catapano of Yonkers, N.Y., Mary Hart of Dornsife, Elizabeth Lazzarevich and Beatrice, both of Treverton and Monica Konyar of this city; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Russell; three brothers; and three sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church, 331 W. Shamokin St., Treverton, with her pastor, the Rev. Philip G. Berger, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at Foust’s, 841 W. Dorothy Maxine Probst
LOCK HAVEN - Dorothy Maxine Probst, 70, of Ciderpress Road died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital emergency room after being stricken at Swissdale United Methodist Church Hall. She and her husband, Hayes C. Probst, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 5. She had worked at the former Bobbi Brooks, Woolrich Woolen Mills and the former Piper Aircraft. She was an active member of the church, having served as treasurer of the Sunday school class and serving meals at the church. Born here April 11, 1930, she was a daughter of Bruce A. and Anna Clymer Munro. Surviving, besides her husband, are her stepmother, Leona Munro of Lock Haven; a daughter, Maureen Hughes of Montgomery Center, Vt.; a brother, Arthur E. Munro of Swissdale; four sisters, Eleanor Reese of Lock Haven, Catherine Taylor and Ilene Fiedler, both of Swissdale and Phyllis McDonough of Jersey Shore; and two grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., with the Rev. Marie Lewis, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Swissdale Cemetery.

Pearl V. Rader, 83, of 1044 W. Fourth St., died Monday, July 31, 2000. Her husband, William Rader, died in 1948. She was a housewife. She was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School. She was a member of Covenant Central Presbyterian Church. Born Feb. 21, 1918, in Hillsgrove, she was a daughter of William and Blanche Dunlap Yaw. Surviving is a daughter, Judy A. of Wilmington, Del. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. today at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. James Leuenberger, officiating. Burial will be in Hillsgrove Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Dennis R. Swigart
Dennis R. Swigart, 45, of 1750 Fredna Ave. died Tuesday, August 1, 2000, in Hershey Medical Center after an extended illness. He and his wife, the former Kathleen Ann Johnston, observed 18th wedding anniversary June 5. Born March 15, 1955, in this city, he was a son of Ray G. and Myrtle I. McClintock Swigart. He was a driver for UPS for 20 years. He was a member of Garden View Baptist Church. He was a 1973 graduate of South Williamsport High School and the former Williamsport Area Community College. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Alan R. and a daughter, Ashley L., both at home; two sisters, Linda Swigart Campbell of Wilmington, N.C. and Deborah A. Shank of Montgomery. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church, 1600 Doris Ave. with the Rev. Russell D. Small his pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Matthew J. Darrin, his nephew. Rhelda M. Umpstead, 85, of 1201 Rural Ave. died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Roseview Center. She was associated for 38 years with agencies of American Baptist Churches; American Baptist Home Mission Society, now National Ministries; Ministers Council; The Minister’s and Missionaries Benefit Board, New York City;, The American Baptist Conference Center, Green Lake, Wis., and The Colgate Rochester Divinity School, Rochester, N.Y. She was a 1934 graduate of Montgomery Clinton High School, Montgomery, and studied advertising, promotions and public relations at New York University, New York City. She graduated from the New York School of Interior Design, New York City. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Williamsport. Born June 10, 1915, in Montgomery, she was a daughter of Torrence and Elizabeth Manley Umpstead. Surviving are a sister, Anne E. Campbell of this city; five nieces, and four nephews. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Dr. George A. Cosper and Gwen N. Bernstine, officiating. Janet K. Whitmyer, 78, of 342 Susquehanna Ave., South Renovo, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in the Valley View Nursing Center. She and her husband, William T. Whitmyer, would have observed their 56th wedding anniversary Sept. 29. Mrs. Whitmyer was a registered nurse and retired Feb. 15, 1975 from Clinton County Community Nursing. She had been employed by the former Renovo Hospital and the Lock Haven Hospital. She was a 1939 graduate of Renovo High School and a 1943 graduate of Northeastern Hospital of Philadelphia School of Nursing, where she was class valedictorian. She was a member of Zions Evangelical Lutheran Church, Renovo. She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Renovo. Born Nov. 8, 1921 in Renovo, she was a daughter of Jerome and Alice Pierson Dale. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Claire Anne Maurer of Montoursville and Linda C. Hurley of Webster, N.Y.; a brother, Jan Dale of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Alice Pagana of Cogan Station, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome “Bud” Dale, on Feb. 20, 1991. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, with Rev. Steven Brauner officiating. Kathryn “Kitty” E. Evans Boden, 79, of Loyalsock Township, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She was formerly of Harrisburg. She was the widow of Charles R. Boden. She was employed by the former state Department of Health and Welfare. She was a past member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Harrisburg. Surviving are two sons, James R. of Cogan Station and Gary C. of Dauphin; a sister, Margaret Thompson of Dauphin; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zimmerman-Auer’s, 4100 Jonestown Road, Lower Pazton Township. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Township. Nada Lenore Krone Hoover, 83, of 2159 S. Eagle Valley Road, Bellefonte, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She was a Jersey Shore native. She and her husband, Walter Russell Hoover, observed their 61st wedding anniversary March 29. She retired in 1989 as cafeteria manager for Susquehannock School District, Glen Rock and formerly worked as cafeteria manager of the Bald Eagle Area School District. She was a member of the Grange, Red Lion. She was a member of Bald Eagle Valley Community Church, Wingate. Born Jan. 20, 1917, she was a daughter of Emil R. and Louella Meek Krone. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Sonya E. Ream of Hughesville and Joyce Tedrow of Bellefonte; two sisters, Abida Walker of Fleming and Elizabeth Mummaw of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a brother, William of McKinleyville, Calif.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben, Eugene and Frederick Krone; and two sisters, Mable and Phyllis Krone. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday with the Revs. Thomas M. JERSEY SHORE - Clair Jean Marks Jr., 83, of Longweood, Fla., a former borough mayor, died Tuesday, July 25, 2000, in Florida. He retired to that state in 1976. He was a former salesman for National Cash Register, Williamsport. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Grand Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church. He enjoyed flying and owned his own plane. Born in this borough in 1917, he was a son of Clair Jean Sr. and Julia Letts Marks. Surviving are his wife, the former Anne Haber of Longwood, Fla.; two daughters, Diane Hynic of Longwood and Sandy Galagher of Lake Mary, Fla.; a brother, Robert of McElhattan; and three grandchildren.

LOCK HAVEN - Edward R. Moltz, 58, of 240 S. Jones St. died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital. He and his wife, the former Joan J. Jacobs, observed their 11th wedding anniversary April 6. He was an inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the Clearfield Office from 1967 until his death. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 100, here. He was a 1960 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Born here April 6, 1942, he was a son of Russell and Ann Foley Moltz. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Lynne Stout of Washington, Pa.; a son, Edward M. of this city; two sisters, Anne Stine of State College and Patricia Selfe of this city; a brother, John D. Foley of Flemington; and four grandchildren. A son, Gregory R., died in 1992. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church, 3 E. Walnut St., with the Rev. Neil R. Dady as celebrant. William “Skip” Young
Word has been recieved of the death of William “Skip” Young, 51, of Hollywood, Calif., formerly of South Williamsport, who died Friday, April 21, 2000. He was a graduate of South Williamsport High School. Born Dec. 1, 1949, in this city, he was a son of William and Mary Louise Loftus Young. Surviving is a brother, Thomas of Mechanicsburg. Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery, with Francis L. Pauselli officiating. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 635 Hepburn St., with Msgr. Francis J. Castellano as celebrant.

Mark B. Davis, 74, of Middlebury Center RR 2, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. His wife, the former June L. Jenkins, died July 9, 1995. He was employed at the former Elkland Tannery, Elkland, the former Portville Saw Mill, Little Marsh and the Kwik Fill, Lawrenceville. He was Army veteran of World War II. Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Potter County, he was a son of Warden and Marion Davis. Surviving are two daughters, Marion Wood of Middlebury Center and Nancy Bennett of Osceola; a son, Lynn Davis of Tioga; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. William B. Bryson Sr., 75, of Montgomery RR 2, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital skilled nursing unit where he had been for the last two years. He was a truck driver. Born Aug. 6, 1924, in Delaware Township, he was a son of Joseph D. and Margaret A. Ranck. Surviving are four sons, William B. Jr. and Robert S., both of Muncy, Harry C. and Larry E., both of Montgomery; six daughters, Margaret J. Sellers and Mary E. Shoemaker, both of Muncy, Ann L. Wommer and Carol M., both of this city, Barbara J. Kapp of Reading and Connie L. Moser of Montgomery; two brothers, Joseph M. of Manheim and J. Robert of Watsontown; four sisters, Betty Baker of Lancaster, Elsie Fisher of Watsontown, Maxine Hoffman of Dewart and Doris Donachy of New Berlin; 39 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn C.; two brothers, Richard H. and Donald R.; and a sister, Margaret.
