Bernard N. Murphy, 82, formerly of 1100 Jordan Ave., died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the Meadows, Montoursville. He and his wife, the former Helen B. Vallentine, observed their 57th wedding anniversary March 9. He retired after 24 years as post master in Dushore. He was a member of American Legion Post 452, Mildred, a life member of Dushore Fire Co. and a member of White Ash Land Association, Mildred. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Montoursville. He was a World War II Navy veteran participating in six invasions at North African, Cicily, Solarno, Normandy, Southern France and Okinawa. H was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born Sept. 15, 1017, in Mildred, he was a son of Francis and Catherine Cunningham Murphy. Surviving are a son, J. Michael of Muncy; a daughter, Carroll D’Mar Shimun of San Fransisco, Calif; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Catherine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, 800 Mulberry St., with the Rev. Thomas Shoback, officiating. Burial will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery, Dushore. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St. The family will provide the flowers.

Lydia Jane Furst Sente
Lydia Jane Furst Sente, 84, of 23 Ridge Road, Salona, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at home. Her husband, Frank Sente, observed their 57th wedding anniversary Oct. 31. She retired as an english teacher from Bald Eagle Nittany High School, Mill Hall after 14 years, she previously taught at Lock Haven High School and Wood School, Langhorn. She was a 1934 graduate of Lock Haven High School and a 1938 graduate of Lock Haven Normal School. She was a member and past regent of the Daughter of the American Revolution, Col. Hugh White Chapter. She was a member of Great Island Presbyterian Church, Lock Haven and a SUnday school teacher there. Born Aug. 18, 1915, in Bend, Ore, she was a daughter of Luther C. and Laura Karen Williams Furst Jr. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Stephen F. of Lamar and Frank L. of State College; and a grandson. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Kenneth G. Page, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The memorial service will be today for Edna S. Phillips, 88, formerly of Hughesville who died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital emergency room. Eleanor A. Stutzman
Eleanor A. Stutzman, 81, of 3441 Northway Road, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at home. Her husband Harry E. Stutzman died April 11, 1988. Born Sept 8, 1918, in this city, she was a daughter of Edward and Agnes Lambert Eiswert. Surviving are three sons, Stanley E., Earl L. and David L., all Williamsport RR; a daughter, Nina A. Easton of Montoursville; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Green View Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1955 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, with the Rev. Mark R. Applebee, officiating. Grant F. Trick
CANTON - Grant F. Trick, 49, of Canton RR 1, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Troy Community Hospital, Troy. He and his wife, the former LuAnn Allen observed their 27th wedding anniversary Oct. 21. He stepped down in January from his position as fire chief of the Canton Fire Department, he served there for more than 20 years.He was a member of the Innes Hose Company, Loyal Order of the Moose and Canton Lodge 429. Born April 15, 1951 in Muncy, he was a son of Preston H. and Margaret H. Weisbrod Trick. He grew up in Hughesville. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Sherry Walmsley of Canton; a son, Shawn of Canton; five sisters, Marie Mutschler of Raleigh, N.C., Rose Bacon of Canton, Ruth Boeschen of Latwon, Okla., Mary Rockwell of Troy and Edna Moyer of Picture Rocks; and two brothers, Glenn of Canton and Robert of Montoursville; and a grandson, Chase Walmsley. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Bruce and Albert. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, with the Rev. Duane Taylor, officiating. Honors will be accorded by area firefighters. Burial will be in Beech Flats Cemetery, Canton Township. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 tonight.

Mary Ruth Flock, 102, of 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center, where she had been since 1994. She was the oldest resident there. Her husband, Frederick P. Flock, died April 24, 1974. She worked at the family store in Pennsdale in earlier life. She was a member of the Acacia Club. She was a member St. Mark Lutheran Church. Born June 27, 1898, Montoursville, she was a daughter of Charles B. Carrie Koons Hoffa. Surviving are a son, Sam H. of Lower Barbours Road, this city; a daughter, Roselyn Simmons of Needham, Mass.; four grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. A Private graveside service will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin, her pastor, officiating. There will be no visitation. Edith M. Gibbon, 78, formerly of Montoursville, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Manor Care South where she had been a resident since 1991. She was a member of bethany Lutheran Church. Born May 30, 1922, in Northumberland, she was a daughter of F. George and Mabel C. Smeltz Stevenson. Surviving are two sisters, Helen J. Robbins of this city and Sandra J. Bower of Avis. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Zetto, officiating. Mary J. Lukens, 99, of 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000 at Valley View Nursing Center. She lived in the same house on the West End for more than 50 years. Her husband, Boyd B. “Pete” Lukens, died March 2, 1967. She was a homemaker and earlier in life had been employed by U.S. Rubber Co., in this city and Casners Picture Frame Factory. She was a charter and life member of Church of the Savior, Lutheran, and was its oldest living member. She was a former member of American War Mothers and had three sons in World War II. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Born Dec. 31, 1900, in this city, she was a daughter of Henry and Hettie E. Kuhns Schuman. Surviving are two sons, Max A. and Donald E. “Duke”, both of this city; a daughter, Betty J. Groome of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother, Harvey J. Schuman of Linden; a sister, Esther A. Jean of this city; 7 grandchildren, including Ralph L. Jr., whom she reared; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph L. Sr; three brothers, Wilbur H., Phillip E. and George H. Schuman; and six sisters, Dorothy A. Conklin, Betty L. Schuman, Vinnie E. Derr, Clara V. Derr, Sophie M. Holmes and Jessie M. Reynolds. A private funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. LEWISBURG - Colleen J. Musselman, 10, of 114 S. 13th St., died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Evangelical Hospital emergency room, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She would have been entering the fifth grade at Linntown Elementary School. She was a member of Girl Scouts, Sunshine Generation Children’s Song and Dance Group, Young Girls’ Group at Donald Heiter Community Center and AYSO soccer. She enjoyed helping her brother fix race cars and horseback riding. She attended Community Mennonite Fellowship and participated in various children’s church musicals. Born May 7, 1990, in this city, she was a daughter of Ronald L. and Patricia A. Nolen Musselman. Surviving, besides her parents, are a brother, Andrew J. at home; a sister, Kelsey C. at home; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Fair Nolen of Blue Mound, Ill.; and paternal grandparents, Melvin and Leona Grove Musselman of Gettysburg. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, Broadway Road, Milton, with the Rev. David Martino officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Run Mennonite Church Cemetery, Watsontown RR 3. He was attending Mansfield University as a criminal justice major. He was a 1998 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He was a member of Williamsport Millionaires Baseball District 4 Champions in 1997 and 1998 and an Eastern Region State runner-up in 1997. He was selected MVP in 1998 and was a 1998 and 1999 District 12 Big League All Stars, Pennsylvania State Champions. He was a member of the Mounties Baseball team. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. Born Aug. 20, 1980, in this city, he was a son of Jeffery W. and Shirley Elliott Raisch. Surviving are his parents at home; two brothers, Michael Paul of this city and Samuel Jesse at home; paternal grandparents, Harry and Margaret Raisch of Nisbet; and maternal grandparents Frances King and Leroy F. Elliott Sr. of Towanda. Services will be at 10 a.m. at the church, 326 Washington Blvd., with the Rev. Paul Ines, assistant pastor, officiating. Elene C. Stiber, 82, 1920 Penn St., died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Manor Care North, where she had been a resident for a month. Her husband, Robert O. Stiber, died May 3, 1981 She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Born, Oct. 9, 1917, in this city she was a daughter of Rose Crawford. Surviving are a son, Robert T. Sr. of this city; a daughter, Carolyn S. Day of this city; four grandchildren, Robert T. Jr., Stephen, David and Jeffrey; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev Dr. Dennis L. Otto, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Minnie E. Wagner, 91, formerly of Cammal, a resident at Fulmer’s Personal Care Home, Lock Haven, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital emergency room. Her husband, Paul S. Wagner, died March 25, 1994. She was employed at Cyntex Textile Co., Warshow’s Textile Co. and Williamsport Textile Co. She attended school in Cammel and the former Williamsport School of Business. In 1965 she and her husband built the first cable car to span Pine Creek at Cammel. She was a protestant. Born Nov. 9, 1908, in Cammel, she was a daughter of Margaret Stradley. A private burial will be held in Cammal Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.
Ruth Cassidy
RENOVO - Ruth Cassidy, 92, formerly of Drurys Run, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center Extended Care Unit. Her husband, Charles E. Cassidy, died Dec. 5, 1993. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church and taught Sunday school. Born April 28, 1907, in Drurys Run, she was a daughter of Wilce and Edith Stewart Brown. Surviving are twin daughters, Edith Nesman of Drurys Run and Elizabeth Summerson of South Renovo; a son, Charles of Renovo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son Boyd and three brothers, Robert, Franklin and Raymond Brown. The funeral will be at 11 today at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., with the Rev. Mahlon Nevel officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery, North Bend. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 11 a.m. today.
