A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday for Mary H. Chaya, 93, formerly of 798 W. Edwin St., who died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services North. Her husband, Joseph S. Chaya, died Oct. 22, 1976. She was a silk mill worker. She was a member of West End Senior Citizens. She was a member of Church of the Annunciation. Born Sept. 21, 1906, in West Hazelton, she was a daughter of Julius and Violet Harla Jacobosky. Surviving is a brother, Edward Jacobosky. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerome. The service will be at 9:30 a.m. at the church, West Fourth and Walnut streets. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.
Floretta M. Fetzer
JERSEY SHORE – Floretta M. Fetzer, 91, formerly of Avis, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Manor Care Health Services, where she lived for two years. Her husband, Ira W., died in 1969. She retired from Penn Wire and Rope in 1964 after 15 years employment. She was a former member of Oriole United Methodist Church. Born Jan. 26, 1909, in this borough, she was a daughter of Ernest and Mary Jane McCaslin Reighard. Surviving are a daughter, Vernetta M. Thomas of Salladasburg; two sons, Jack L. and Donnie E., both of Avis; a brother, Eugene Reighard, of this borough; two sisters, Madelyn Hamlin of Akron, Ohio, and Kathryn Hawkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., with the Rev. Drew Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. JERSEY SHORE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday for Vonell Folmar, 83, of State Route 44, who died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000. She and her husband, Clelland E. “Kelly” Folmar Sr., observed their 64th wedding anniversary June 20. She was a housewife. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, its altar and rosary societies. Born July 4, 1917, in Johnstown, she was a daughter of Burley and Jessie Wagner Powell. Surviving, besides her husband, are three daughters, Nadine “Deanie” Hazen of St. Charles, Ill., Sandra Johnson of Annapolis, Md., and Pam Dunleavy of Jersey Shore; two sons, Clelland “Jim” Jr. of Antes Fort and Ed of Jersey Shore; a brother, Devon Speicher; 17 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. The services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, 118 Kendall Ave., with the Rev. Andrew S. Hvozovic officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Bertha E. Palmeter
Bertha E. Palmeter, 79, of 303 Reynolds Road, Linden, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000. Her husband, Walter Palmeter I, died Dec. 28, 1962. She was a cafeteria worker for the Williamsport Area School District. Born March 16, 1921, in Linden, she was a daughter of William S. and Florence Waltz Carpenter. Surviving are three sons, Walter W. II of Linden, Gary W. of Jersey Shore and Eddie A. of Allenwood; a daughter, Sandra L. Sturgeon of St. Cloud, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Smith of Linden; a brother, William Carpenter of Linden; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Aldas L. “Pete” Carpenter who died Friday; another brother, John Carpenter; and two sisters, Marintha Wagner and Ethel Knauss. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Wendi C. Gordon of St. Matthew Luth Church officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Adell O. Pelzer
Adell O. Pelzer, 72, of the Williamsport Home, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000. Her husband, William C. Pelzer died Dec. 31, 1995. She had been employed by the City of Philadelphia. She was a graduate of Philadelphia High School for Girls. She was a member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Born June 11, 1928, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the Rev. Smiley and Eliza Mosley Wilson. Surviving are a daughter, Eileen Pelzer-Harley of this city; a brother, Dr. Woodrow Wilson of Wilmington, Del.; and two grandchildren, William C. and Whitney L. Harley. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Church of the Redeemer, 24th and Dickenson Streets, Philadelphia. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery, Collingdale. Theodore J. Skinner Jr.
Theodore J. Skinner Jr., 81, of 437 E. Fifth Ave., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at home. His wife, the former Geraldine M. Giles, died Dec. 30, 1984. He retired as a representative for Beers Paper Co., Lock Haven, and formerly for Neece Paper Co. He retired from the Air Force as a leuitenant colonel and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatiac Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Young Men’s Republican Club. He was a member of Washington Lodge 164 F&AM. He attended First Church of Christ Scientist. Born March 23, 1919, in Washington, he was a son of Theodore J. and Olive Brown Skinner Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra F. Hahn of this city; a stepson, Larry H. Laycock of Bensalem; a brother, Charles R. of Concord, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Cloky. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with Dorothy Alford, a reader from the church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Washington Cemetery, Washington. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers.
Lewis John Wenzel
Lewis John Wenzel, 80, of State College, a city native, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Dorothy Mae Bordinger, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Tuesday. He retired in 1986 after 35 years at Centre Daily Times and had been employed by Grit Publishing Co. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of 50-50 Club, Pennsylvania Dancing Camping and Centre Squares. He was a 1939 graduate of Williamsport High School. Born Jan. 13, 1920, he was a son of Homer Lee and Lillie Miller Livermore Wenzel. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Bonnie Rae Barry and Lynette Dawn Farwell, both of State College; and four grandchildren, Aaron Robert and Shawna Marie Barry, Jennie Kelly and Kimberly Kara Farwell. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beatrice Margaret Breen and Evelyn May. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Koch’s, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. William Thomas Whitmyer
William Thomas Whitmyer, 79, of 342 Susquehanna Ave., South Renovo, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. His wife, the former Janet Dale, died Aug. 1. He retired in 1975 after more than 30 years as a railroad brakeman on the Renovo to Erie and Buffalo Route of Penn Central Roalroad. He was a member of Elks Lodge 334 and F&AM 495, Renovo. He was in the Navy Reserve. He was a 1938 graduate of Renovo High School. Born Oct. 10, 1920, in Renovo, he was a son of William C. and Isabel Henry Whitmyer. Surviving are two daughters, Claire Anne Maurer of Montoursville and Linda Hurley of Webster, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Melissa Joy and Brett Hurley and Jason Mauer. He was preceded in death by a brother, Merle, and a sister, Madeline “Madge” Iobst. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo, with the Rev. Carl E. Bender
Carl E. Bender, 82, of 1541, W. Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, died Thursday Aug. 17, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Marian K. Folmar, observed their 57th wedding anniversary May 14. He retired in 1981 as a mill wright at the former Bethlehem Steel. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II he was awarded the European, African, Middled Eastern Campaign ribbon with five bronze stars. He was a member of Williamsport Word of Faith Fellowship. Born Oct. 18, 1817, in Jersey Shore, he was a son of Henry N. and Elizabeth Hale Bender. Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Thomas L. of this city; a daughter, Ann E. Bender-Brennan of South Williamsport; a brother, Charles of Erie; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward C. A private funeral will be at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with his pastor, the Rev. Dan T. Kelly, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Jersey Shore Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Ruth Anna Fenstermacher
Ruth Anna Fenstermacher, 92, of Muncy RR 3 died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband, George William Fenstermacher, died Aug. 19, 1994. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Muncy. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and baking. Born March 16, 1908, in Penn Township, she was a daughter of Alvin L. and Hannah E. Watts Forney. Surviving are a daughter, Mary A. Reynolds of Watsontown; four grandchildren, Crystal Graves, Susanne Shreck, Mark Reynolds II and Michael Reynolds; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Jean W. Moyer, retired United Methodist minister, officiating. Kenneth Harvey Fulger Sr., 61, of Beech Creek, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. He and his wife, the former Diane Rae Johansen, observed their 14th wedding anniversary Nov. 14. He was a self employed carpenter. He attended Bald Eagle Nittany High School. He was a member of Bland J. Rossman Post 1630 Veterans of Foreign Wars and William Crawford Post 131, American Legion, both of Lock Haven. He enjoyed the outdoors. Born Jan. 14, 1939, in Loganton, he was a son of William John Henry and Marie Katherine Bryan Fulger. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Sherry A. Eckman of this city; five sons, Dean C. of Lock Haven, Kenneth H. Jr. of Salt Lake City, Utah, Glenn A. of Lebanon, Duane E. of Beech Creek and Timothy O. of Mill Hall; two stepdaughters, Terri L. and Bonnie Lynn, both of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Donna of McKungie and Judy Simmons of Jersey Shore; two brothers, David of Lebanon and Paul “Keith” of Jersey Shore; 27 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Marie E. lewis, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. RENOVO - Miriam A. Hartsock, 92, of Tenth Street died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at the home of her daughter. Her husband, Lester H. Hartsock, died in 1955. She was a teacher in Franklinville, Bitumen and at Renovo Elementary School, retiring in 1973 after more than 40 years. She was a member of the B.P.W., Clinton County Retired Teachers Association and the Bridge Club. She was a graduate of Lock Haven Normal School, now Lock Haven University. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church. Born July 13, 1908, in Hyner, she was a daughter of Ernest and Nancy Werts Aber. Surviving are a daughter, Gail Eliason of North Bend, and a granddaughter, Samantha Treston. She was predeceased by a brother, Delmar E. Aber. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, with Deacon Dee Calhoun officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. William Donald Inscho
WELLSBORO - William Donald Inscho, 82, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at The Green Home after a lengthy illness. Owner and operator of River Road Farm, he had been involved in numerous agriculture groups, including Tioga and Potter County Pennsylvania Farmers Association, Tioga County Agricultural Authority, Holstine-Friesian Association of America and the Tioga County Fair Association. He sold real estate for Real Estaters, Mansfield. He had been a Richmond Township committeeman and a member of Odd Fellows. He was a member of Canoe Camp Church of Christ, Richmond Township. He attended Mansfield and Penn State universities. Born July 15, 1918, in Blossburg, he was a son of Jesse and Mary Inscho. Surviving are his wife, Cleda; a son, Donald of Etters; a daughter, Sylvia English of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Christy, Eric and Jennifer; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Erdene Besanceney and Mary Mae Evey. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, with the Rev. Kirk Smethers officiating. Elwood L. Miller, 82, of the Harrisburg area, a Lycoming County native, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Integrated Health Services of Hershey, Hummelstown. He retired as a grocery manager from United Food. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and playing bingo. Born June 23, 1918, he was a son of Eleanor Gawblick and Russel B. Miller. Surviving are his wife, the former Mary E. Johnson; a brother, Lawrence E. of Montoursville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Hoover’s. John J. Rodman, 69, of 507 Sounthmont Ave., South Williamsport, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Williamsport Home. A graduate of Penn State University, majoring in engineering he worked as a structure steel draftsman for 45 years. Born March 11, 1931, in Johnstown, he was a son of Nicholas and Mary Bayouk Rodman. Surviving is a companion Edith Burney of South Williamsport. There will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.
E. Ray Shadday
E. Ray Shadday, 72, of Visalia, Calif., formerly of this city, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, in Kaweah Delta Hospital there after a lengthy illness. He volunteered as a teacher for the literacy program. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born Nov. 26, 1927, in Indianapolis, Ind., he was a son of Allen Ernest and Ethel May Rowlett Shadday. Surviving are two daughters, Rickie J. of Carlisle and Michelle M. of Tacoma, Wash.; four sons, E. Ray Jr. of this city, Ernest A. of Visalia, G. Jude of Woodlands, Calif., and Patrick J. of Philadelphia; a sister, Betty J. Geissler of Hatfield; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Elbert Paul. The funeral will be at Washington Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.
