Emma M. Goodwin Stickler, 89, formerly of Tioga and Mansfield, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, in Palm Garden Hospital, Ocala, Fla. She lived with a daughter in Ocala for the past few years. She was the widow of Lester George Stickler. She was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening and traveling. Born Sept. 6, 1910, in Spring Hill, she was a daughter of Glenn and Eulalie Howland Goodwin. Surviving are two daughters, Lora Mae Cobb of Ocala and Ellen Beard of Milton; four sons, L. George Jr. of Lawrenceville, James of Indianapolis, Ind., Donald of Millerton and Arnold of Arnot; 24 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Frank Goodwin and a sister, Eloise Goodwin Rought. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Vickery’s, 110 W. Main St., Troy, with the Rev. Carol Z. Price, Jackson Center United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery, Jackson Township, at the convenience of the family. WELLSBORO - David E. Blank, 53, of Wellsboro RR 2 died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. He was a horticulturist and retired owner of Plantscapes, Philadelphia. He was a volunteer for Paws and Claws Rescue Society and the Wellsboro American Red Cross. He was a graduate of Radnor High School. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Born Oct. 6, 1946, in Radnor, he was a son of Mervin S. and AnnaBelle Ronk Blank. Surviving are a brother, Mervin Samuel Jr. of Thorndale; two sisters, Sidney Gray of Paoli and Mary Worthington of Wellsboro; a niece; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Rae Henry. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the church, here, with the Revs. Dr. Robert Greer and Joseph McNamara, officiating. There will be no visitation.

Carl Joseph Carkner, 29, of 1506 Memorial Ave. died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in Jersey City, N.J. He was a self-employed salesman and an employee of the former Hills Dept Store. He was a 1989 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and a 1991 graduate of the former Williamsport Area Community College. He was a member of Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born Jan 28, 1971, in this city, he was a son of John L. and Joyce Bodle Barton. Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Susan Clark; two brothers, Gary Barton and Johathan, and two sisters, Lisa Barrentine and Angelina Barton, all of this city. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with his pastor, the Rev. Louis H. Gatti, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Doris M. Donachy
Doris M. Donachy, 72, of 507 Hazel St., New Berlin, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was admitted Sunday after being stricken at the home of her daughter. Her husband, Grier R. Donachy died March 14, 1997. She retired from Danville State Hospital after more than 20 years as a psychiatric aide. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees and Friends of the National Park, Gettysburg. She was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Berlin. She was a 1947 graduate of Watsontown High School. She enjoyed cross-stitching. Born June 20, 1928, in Delaware Township, Northumberland County, she was a daughter of J. Donald and Margaret A. Ranck Bryson. Surviving are a daughter, Susan M. Styers of Millmont RR 1; two brothers, Joseph N. Bryson of Manheim and J. Robert Bryson of Watsontown; three sisters, Betty C. Baker of Lancaster, Elsie M. Fisher of Watsontown and Maxine R. Huffman of Dewart; and a granddaughter, Jennifer M. Miller. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Rev. Michael A. Greenauer, her pastor, officiating assisted by the Rev. Thomas S. Kramm, retired. Vincie J. Maneval, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Seese. Her second husband, Charles W. Maneval Jr., died Sept. 18, 1991. She and her second husband were former residents of Summer Street, DuBoistown. She was employed by U.S. Rubber Works and helped run J. and L. Tavern, DuBoistown She attended Italian Christian Church and the DuBoistown United Methodist Church. Born, June 24, 1913, in this city, she was a daughter of Benedetto and Maria Ciccarelli Basci Surviving are a stepson, Charles W. III of Powhatan, Va.; three step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. James Weibley, pastor of DuBoistown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Kenneth C. Partchey
Kenneth C. Partchey, 65, of Beaver Springs, formerly of Mansfield, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in York Hospital, York. He and his wife, the former Freda C. Stade, observed their 43rd wedding anniversary Dec. 22. Following his retirement, he directed Shippensburg University Band and taught for a year in Gettysburg elementary schools. He previously taught instrumental music in Smethport, Otto-Eldred and Mansfield Schools. He taught brass ensembles at Wilkes and Gettysburg Colleges. He was a graduate of the former Mansfield State Teachers College, Eastman School of Music and Penn State University. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and Lewistown Elks Band. Born Jan 4, 1935, in Lewistown, he was a son of Bruce and Effie Walter Partchey. Surviving, besides his wife, are three daughters, Lisa A. Gromley of Gettysburg, Brenda L. Abraham of Fairfax, Va. and Sandra K. Litvin of West Chester; two sisters, Nadine Shehan of Raleigh, N.C. and Violet Clark of Granville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosaline Norman and Doris Miller and a brother, Charles. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Christ United Church of Christ, Beaver Springs, with the Revs. David Watts Sr., his nephew and Chip McCommons officiating. SELINSGROVE - James M. “Mike” Rising, 71, of Linda Lane, Selinsgrove, father of a city woman, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in Sunbury Community Hospital. He and his wife, the former Marion W. Arnold, observed their 37th wedding anniversary Dec. 21. He retired in 1994 as director of construction and properties for Weis Markets. He was a 1947 graduate of Northumberland High School and a 1954 graduate of Susquehanna University. He was a Selinsgrove borough councilman and a past member of the Selinsgrove school planning board. He was a past Democratic Chairman for Snyder County. He had served in the Army Air Corps. Born May 10, 1929, in Northumberland, he was a son of John M. and Lottie P. Burrell Rising. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Kenneth A. Heaton of Allentown and John M. of Carlisle; a daughter, Janet K. Heaton of Williamsport; two sisters, Joan S. Seebold of Northumberland RR and Betty Boyle of Philipsburg, N.J.; and a granddaughter, Janelle. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Kathryn M., Naomi and Alice P. Rising, Norma M. Neidig and Janet Bohner; and five brothers, George M. Robert C., John B. Arthur D. and Harold E. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Seebold’s, 601 N. High St., with the Rev. Charles H. June Marie Zarecki, of 219 Landor Drive, Rutherglenn, Va., formerly of this city, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, in Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, Md. She and her husband, George L. Zarecki, would have observed their 30th wedding anniversary Sept. 12. She was an nurse for Susquehanna Health Services. She was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Born June 1, 1947, in this city, she was a daughter of Harold and Rita Fox Kurtz. Surviving, besides her husband, are her parents of Loyalsock Township; a son, Harold A. of Rutherglenn; a daughter, Kathleen M. Gorman of Albany, N.Y.; three sisters, Carol Simcox of Hawkinsville, Ga., Patricia Crossley and Laura Weber, both of this city; and two grandchildren. Walter William Clarke Jr.
CANTON - Walter William “Bill” Clarke Jr., 83, of Canton died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Bess Treager, observed their 58th wedding anniversary Nov. 23. He retired in 1974 from Penn State Cooperative Extension Service as a beekeeping specialist after more than 30 years of service. After his retirement, he owned and operated a beekeeping business and was a member of Overseas Cooperative Assistance, traveling to developing countries to help beekeepers. He served three terms on borough council, was a member of the borough water authority and the Canton Shade Tree Commission. He was a member and past master of Canton Lodge 415 F&AM and a member of the Pennsylvania Beekeepers Association. He and his wife were instrumental in establishing the Apple & Cheese Festival. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He attended schools in Latrobe and graduated from Penn State University in 1939 with a degree in Agricultural Education. He was a member of Canton Ecumenical Parish, its I.H.S. class and coordinator of the Men’s Christian Fellowship Breakfast. Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Latrobe, he was a son of Walter William and Alice Hale Clarke. Surviving, besides his wife, are, a daughter, Jane Wettstone of State College; a son Jeffrey Hale of Canton; a brother, Herbert H. of Latrobe; two sisters, Ruth Emerson in Florida and Janet of Latrobe; and three grandchildren, Janine Wettstone McPherson, Jonathan Roy Wettstone and Cynthia Lynn. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church, 43 N. Center St., with the Rev. Nancy Lee Goff, officiating. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Frank Chapel, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, State College, with the Rev. Tom Jacobs, officiating. Burial will be private. Mildred Dimmic Hinebaugh
LOCK HAVEN - Mildred Mae Dimmick Hinebaugh, 87, of North Hillview Street, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in Lock Haven Hospital. She had been ill since January. Her husband, Herbert C. Hinebaugh, died Jan. 17, 1961. She retired in 1976 as a fifth-grade teacher at Flemington Elementary School. Previous to that, she taught at Fairview Township School, Mountaintop. She was a 1930 graduate of Central High School, Scranton, a 1932 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College, and a 1968 graduate of the former Lock Haven State College. She was past president of Lock Haven Area Church Women United, a past board member of Clinton County Cancer Society, secretary and treasurer of Bull Run Restoration Committee, a member of the Association for Childhood Education, Clinton County Retired Teachers, Pennsylvania Public School Employees Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Great Island Presbyterian Church, on the board of Deacons and president of United Presbyterian Women. Born Oct. 2, 1912, in Blackwood, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of William B. and Maude Orme Dimmick. Surviving are a son, J. Kurt of Downingtown; a daughter, Margery G. Sarvey of Harrisburg; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Byron Dimmick and a sister, Ethel C. Drendall. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 14, in the church, 12 West Water St., with the Rev. Kenneth G. Page, officiating. The family will provide the flowers. Helen Reed Munro, 85, formerly of 23 Market St., Dunnstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital extended care unit, after a brief illness. Her husband, Alfred “Scorchy” Monro, died Oct. 23, 1993. She was a night nurse for the late Flora Frederick and a beautician for Betty Bagnel. She was a volunteer for the Piper Fly In and volunteered more than 20 years at the hospital. She was a 1934 graduate of the former Lock Haven High School. Born April 10, 1915, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Edward and Maude Glise Reed. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Ann Heltman of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Edward H. Reed Jr. of Westfield, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Amy and Todd. She was preceded in death by a brother, William O. Reed. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Dunnstown United Methodist Church, Church Street, Dunnstown, with the Rev. Marie Lewis officiating. Calvin Lorrine Allen, 73, of Mill Hall RR 3 died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He and his wife, the former Ida Mae Heaton, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary June 14. He retired in 1986 as a foreman for Champion Parts Rebuilders after 43 years. He was a member of 40 et 8 and William Crawford Post 131, American Legion, both of Lock Haven. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. Born Oct. 11, 1926, in Bald Eagle Township, he was a son of Boyd and Minnie Gruitz Allen.Surviving, besides his wife, are, a son, Gary Lee of Mill Hall; two daughters, Darla Aungst and Donna, both of Mill Hall; a brother, Robert of this city; a sister, Adeline Leone of Mill Hall; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Annabelle Hale and Kathryn Yuffer and four brothers, John, Boyd, Elmer and William. MILL HALL - Julia “Judy” A. Confer, 60, of 992 Mackeyville Road died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, Guy L. Confer, observed their 38th wedding anniversary in December. She was a homemaker and previously owned and operated Confer’s Grocery, Cedar Springs. She was a member of Salona United Methodist Church. She was a 1958 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School. Born March 6, 1940, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Charles and Bertha Whitmeyer Gilmore. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Douglas L. of Avis and David D. of Mill Hall; a daughter, Dorie K. Murty of Flemington; a brother, John H. Gilmore of Mill Hall; a sister, Genevieve S. Bowman of Mill Hall; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, C. David and Richard Glimore. Evelyn M. Reidy, 70, of 252 Crawford Ally, Montoursville, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at home after an extended illness. She and her husband, John E. Reidy, observed their 26th wedding anniversary March 17. She had been employed by the former GTE Sylvania, Montoursville. She was a member of the former Women of the Moose. She was in the Navy Reserves. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a Sunday school teacher. Born July 10, 1930, in this city, she was a daughter of William and Julia Beaver McElroy. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Brethena J. Fritzen of Montoursville and Kirsty E. of Stevenson Ranch, Calif; three stepsons, John E. Jr. of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Richard A. of this city and Timothy M. of Key West, Fla., three sisters, Mary Jarjoura of Manchester, N.Y., Dorothy Smith of this city and Irene Dehaas of Linden; two granddaughters; eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
