Louise Mary Parker, 95, formerly of this city, died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in Gilpin Hall nursing home, Wilmington, Del. She was the widow of John Parker.
She had worked in the Williamsport city treasurer’s office. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a native of Wellsboro. Surviving are two sons, John of Wilmington, and Merle of Wilmington and Laporte; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church, 844 W. Fourth St. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Doherty’s, Wilmington.

Anthony John Sabella
Anthony John Sabella, 39, of Avis died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at home. He was employed by ABB Automation Inc. He was a graduate of Vineland High School, Vineland, N.J.. and Drexel University and a member of its alumni association. He attended Church of St. Luke’s, Jersey Shore. Born May 28, 1961, in Vineland, he was a son of John F. and Marie Louise Vit Sabella. Surviving are his wife, the former Judy A. Michaud; three sons, Anthony Jr. of Avis, Ronald C. and Vincent D. Walters, both of Vineland; a daughter, Martina Marquez of Vineland; and two brothers, John A. and James J. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Minotola, N.J. Burial will be in Our Lady of Victories Cemetery, Landisville, N.J. Friends may call at Rone’s, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Glenn W. Sweeley
A memorial service will be Wednesday for Glenn W. Sweeley, 65, formerly of Lock Haven, who died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at Manor Care North. He was self-employed. Born Feb. 9, 1939, in Moonville, he was a son of Robert B. and Myrtle Karsteatter Sweeley. Surviving are his mother, Myrtle Havlicek of Lock Haven; a sister, Edna Ertel of this city; and three brothers, Robert B. Jr. of Cameron, N.C., Carl N. of Keysville, Va. and Boyd A. of Newton, N.J. A memorial service will be at noon at the Walter and Edna Ertel residence, 1001 Rural Ave. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Sanders’, 821 Diamond St.
Ruth G. Vanemon
The funeral will be Wednesday for Ruth G. Vanemon, 84, of 798 W. Edwin St., who died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Walter Vanemon Sr., died Aug 5., 1979. She was a licensed practical nurse at the former Freezer’s and Park Home. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Unit 1 American Legion, Phoenix, Ariz. Born Nov. 18, 1915, in this city, she was a daughter of Charles and Ida Lorson Sholder. Surviving are five daughters, Joan L. Haven, Jean E. Foster and Debra J. Snook, all of this city, Connie M. Johnson of Montoursville, and Dianne L. Mayer of New River, Ariz.; two sons, Robert C. and James W. Livingston, both of Phoenix; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The service will be at 10 a.m. at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. John Barkley, Maranatha Bible Church, officiating. Cathrine B. Britton, 80, of 2201 Lincoln Drive, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. She and her husband, George Britton, observed their 58th wedding anniversary June 21. She was a homemaker and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. Born Oct. 15, 1919, in this city, she was a daughter of George and Annie Muffley Mayer. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Carl of this city; a daughter, Carol Randall of Cogan Station; and two grandchildren, Rodney Starr and Carrie Bissett. She was preceded in death by a son, Harvey Muffley. The funeral will be at 2 p.m Thursday at Kaufman’s, 2102 Northway Road, with the Rev. David Bixler officiating. WATSONTOWN - The funeral will be Friday for D. Isabel Prowant, 77, of 110 E. Brimmer Ave., who died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, after a lengthy illness, at Kramm Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for two weeks. She and her husband Paul L. Prowant observed their 50th wedding anniversary Feb. 25. The great-great-granddaughter of John Watson, who founded Watsontown, she was a 1940 graduate of Watsontown High School. She was a former member of West Branch Fire Company Auxiliary and a member of First Lutheran Church. Born Nov. 4, 1922, in Allenwood, she was a daughter of Lewis D. and Mary Jane Gudykunst Watson. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Donald M. of Watsontown RR 2; a daughter, Barbara A. Snyder of Allenwood; two sisters, Martha Prokson of Lake Placid, Fla. and Margaret Hart of Whitehall; a brother, Lewis Watson of Seattle; two grandsons; and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dale E. The service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., with the Rev. Daniel S. Reeder, officiating. Burial will be in Uniontown Cemetery. WELLSBORO - Marian E. Daugherty, 87, of 9007 34th Ave., Palmetto, Fla., formerly of West Avenue, Wellsboro, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, in Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. She was the widow of John A. Daugherty. She was member of Mary Wells Chapter 452, Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Born June 9, 1913, in Wellsboro, she was a daughter of Linus L. and Sara Tipperman Wilcox. Surviving are a son, Gordon R. of Palmetto; two grandsons, Stephen D. and Thomas W.; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 23 in First Baptist Church, with the Revs. John McNassor and Eugene Charsky officiating. Friends may call at the church at 10:15 a.m. Sept. 23. Betty Jane Hill, 62, of 68 Heberling Road, Muncy, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at the home of her granddaughter in Williamsport. She and her husband, Leo S. Hill, observed their 45th wedding anniversary April 23. She retired in 1989 from Milco, Bloomsburg. She enjoyed gardening and crafts. Born Sept. 11, 1938, in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of Roy Edwin and Geraldine E. Beitz Sones. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother of Berwick; two sons, Edwin L. of Millville and G. Dean of Bloomsburg; two brothers, D. Roy Sones of Tampa, Fla., Dennis G. Sones of Millville; a sister, Peggy Ann Felix of Berwick; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse, Ronald and twin, Bobby Sones; and two sisters, Edith and Shirley Sones A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Pine Summit Cemetery. William Keith Kelly
LOCK HAVEN - William Keith Kelly, 90, formerly of 121 N. Jones St. and Oak Ridge Personal Care Home, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Susque View Home, where he lived for a week. His wife, the former Emma Smith, died June 22, 1976. He retired in 1975 as a machine foreman at Hammermill Paper Co., formerly New York and Penn. He was a member of LaFayette Lodge 199, F&AM and was a past member of the Williamsport Consistory and the Lock Haven Elks. He was a graduate of the former Lock Haven High School Born here Feb. 22, 1910, he was a son of Charles Wesley and Elizabeth Rathgeber Kelly. Surviving are two sons, R. Keith and Gary K., both of Lock Haven; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Yost-Gedon’s, 121 W. Main St., with the Rev. Kenneth G. Page, pastor of Great Island Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Dunnstable Township, Clinton County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Bessie C. Wentz, 91, formerly of Hanover, the mother of a city woman, died Wednesday, Sept, 6, 2000, at Brethren Home Community, New Oxford. She was retired from The Evening Sun, Hanover. Born April 13, 1909, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of Theodore J. and Edna Hilker Myers. Surviving are a daughter, Virginia W. Dusman of this city; a sister, Nadie of Akron; a brother, David Myers of Hanover; and a grandson, Karl W. Dusman. Services were Saturday in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Hanover. Burial was in St. David’s Cemetery, Hanover.
Frank M. Barner
Frank M. Barner, 48, of Purcellville, Va., formerly of Sugar Valley, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Md. He was employed by Virginia Sprinkler Corp. for the past 10 years. He was a graduate of Sugar Valley High School and attended Rex Humbard College. Born April 28, 1952, in Albany, N.Y., he was a son of Grant R. and Bertha Lyman Barner. Surviving are his wife, the former Lydia M. Casey; his father and stepmother, Doris Barner of Loganton; two daughters, Eve and Priscilla, both of Purcellville; six brothers, Walter G., Gordon R. and Jerry R., all of Loganton, Mark L. and James F., both of Jersey Shore and Dale of Springfield, Tenn; and a sister, Barbara L. Munro of Jersey Shore. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Kenneth and a sister, Susan Smith. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren, Eastville. CANTON - Samantha Jo Smith, infant daughter of Anthony and Jennifer Moore Smith of Canton, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. Surviving, besides her parents, are a brother and sister, Anthony J. Jr. and Chelsee Mae, both at home; maternal grandpartents, Harry Moore of Canton and Mary and Joe Walburn of Alba; and paternal grandmother, Beverly Smith of Canton; and several aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Joseph Smith. A graveside service will be at noon today at Grover Cemetery, with the Rev. James Donahoo, officiating. Kathleen M. Baker
WELLSBORO - Kathleen M. Baker, 55, of Wellsboro, formerly of Manhattan, New York, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000. She is the sister of Rep. Matthew E. Baker, R-Wellsboro. She was formerly a court reporter in New York City. She enjoyed reading, traveling, theater and flowers. Born Feb. 6, 1945, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a daughter of Clair and Pearl Tackman Baker. Surviving, in addition to her brother, are her parents; and two brothers, Brick of Gainesville, Fla. and Clair Jr. of Kent, Conn. A private family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Carleton’s, Wellsboro RR 7.
George Miller
George Miller, 63, of Lopez, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, in Clarks Summit. He was involved in farming and later lived in Towanda. He attended the Methodist Church in Towanda and sang in its choir. Born April 6, 1937, in Murraytown, he was a son of Henry T. and Rosetta Barnes Miller Sr. Surviving are three brothers, Henry Jr. of Lopez, Edward of Mildred and Willard T. in New Jersey and three sisters, Ilene M. Stephey of Sebring, Fla., Edith Rohde of Elmira, N.Y. and Minnie M. of Philadelphia. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore, with the Rev. Robert W. A. Eugene Koons, 83, of 1737 Becht Road, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at home. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, in 1989 and he and his second wife, the former Anna Gable, observed their ninth wedding anniversary in February. He retired from the former Lakes to Sea/Continental Trailways after 39 years as a bus driver. A past officer of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, he enjoyed writing religious poetry and carving. He was a member and past president of Loyalsock Kiwanis Club and a member of Amalgamated Transit Workers. He was a 1935 graduate of Williamsport High School and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Born July 2, 1917, in Loyalsock Township, he was a son of George A. and Annis Lundy Koons. Surviving, besides his second wife, are a daughter, Carol A. Koons-Shick of Muncy; a son Gary E. of Loyalsock; a stepson, William Gable Sr. of Picture Rocks; a stepdaughter, Laurene Hyde of Bodines; a brother, Donald L. of Loyalsock; two sisters, Phyliss Harvey and Margaret Dieffenbacher, both of Loyalsock; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lester, and a sister, Martha. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Montoursville Cemetery with Rev. Melvin D. Bole officiating. Gregory Everett Stanbro, 72, of Denver, Colo., died Monday, Sept. 11, 2000. He and his wife, the former Diane Mellish, observed their 20th wedding anniversary June 21. He was a retired geologist/geophysicist for Chevron Co. and Devon Energy. A Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier. He was a member of the Denver Country Club. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Denver. Surviving, besides his wife, are four stepdaughters, Jacouline Weigle and Jeri Sims, both of this city, Jennifer Stroehmann of Santa Fe, N.M., and Joy Stroehmann of Walnut Creek, Calif.; two stepsons, Jeffrey J. Stroehmann of the Williamsport area and Harold John Stroehmann of Washington, D.C.; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John’s Cathedral, Denver, Colo.
