Eleanor Stahl Hain
Eleanor Stahl Hain, 81, of York, a Williamsport native, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Normandie Ridge. She was the widow of W. Robert Stahl. A graduate of the former Mansfield State College, she was a retired home economics teacher from Curtin Junior High School. She was a member of Public School Education Association and Daughters of the American Revolution. Born April 10, 1919, she was a daughter of Dean P. and Florence Artley Slout. Surviving are a son, Robert Stahl of York; a daughter, Prudence S. Runyon of Lakehurst, N.J.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Baumeister, Orcutt and Small’s, South Queen at Jackson Street, York.

Carol D. Johnson
Carol D. Johnson, of York, a Williamsport native, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at home. She and her husband, Dwight R. Johnson, observed their 37th wedding anniversary Feb. 16. She was an employee in the Human Resources Department of Allfirst Bank, York. She was a member of York Area Transplant Support Group. She was a 1962 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, York. She was a daughter of James R. and Frances M. Goodman Miller. Surviving, besides her husband, are her mother of York; two daughters, Dwendy R. and Courtney D. Shue, both of York; a son, Jeffrey of York; a brother, James G. Miller of Medford, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church, 1030 Carlisle Road, York, with the Revs. Dr. Bradley A. Brown and Reda Willis officiating. Friends may call at the church following the memorial service.
Arrangements are being handled by Etzweiler’s, 1111 E. Market St., York.

Standish Fox
LOCK HAVEN - Standish “Ted” Fox, 87, of 362 W. Park St., died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Susque-View Nursing Home. He and his wife, the former Fronie Mitcheltree, observed their 67th wedding anniversary Jan. 16. He was employed by the former Bloomsburg Mills. He was a member of West Branch Beagle Club. He was an avid fly fisherman. Born March 26, 1913, he was a son of Eugene and Annabelle Killinger Fox. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Mary Lou Keiffer of Swissdale; a son, William “Bill” of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Alice Kephart of Lock Haven; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-granddaughters. He was predeceased by four sisters, Hazel Pinge, Edith Dorman, Rebecca Rippey and Louise Bollinger, and two brothers, Eugene and Harry. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Marie E. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven RR. Friends may call the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Wayne M. Hartzel
Wayne M. Hartzel, 60, of 810 Northway Road, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital, where he was admitted Thursday. He and his wife, the former Cynthia A. Swartz, observed their 17th wedding anniversary Feb. 4. He had been employed by the Williamsport Consistory. He was a member of 40 et 8 Voiture 382, America Legion Post 1, Fraternal Order of Eagles 364, Jersey Shore, and Loyalsock Township Volunteer Fire Department. Born Feb. 25, 1940, in Roaring Branch, he was a son of Jack and Marjorie Hartzel. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother and stepfather, Connie Wirtz of Stanford, N.Y.; a stepson, Kenneth E. Bower Jr. of Proctor; a daughter, April L. at home; a sister, Samantha Bodnar of Baltimore, Md.; and a step-granddaughter. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin, pastor of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.

Wallace C. Harstead Sr.
Wallace C. Harstead Sr., 78, of Elk Grove, Calif., a former city resident, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at home. He retired from Grey Hound Bus Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Born Oct. 17, 1921, in this city, he was a son of Charles and Katharina Geisen Harstead Sr. Surviving, besides his wife of 43 years, Velma, are three sons, Wallace Jr. of this city, Phillip and Richard, both of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Linda Cimaroli and Marsha Miller, both of Chicago; three brothers, Charles Jr. of South Williamsport, Kenneth of Jersey Shore and Donald of Watsontown; three sisters, Beatrice Doebler of this city, Lottie Vincent of West Milton and Ida Conover in Florida; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford, and a sister, Pearl. Services are today at South East Lawn Memorial Park, Elk Grove.

Charles E. Vought
Charles E. Vought, 67, of 554 Quakerstate Road, Montoursville, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. His first wife, the former Margaret Doringer, died June 5, 1977. He and his second wife, the former Dorothy M. Hudson, celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary July 4. He retired from the former Clayton Smith Co. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Born Oct. 11, 1932, in South Williamsport, he was a son of Edward R. and Julia McCollins Miller Vought. Surviving are two brothers, Don of this city, and John of Harrisburg; three sisters, Edith Marshall, Betty Lowmiller, and Nancy Hess, all of this city; a stepson, Robert H. Vought Jr. of this city; and four step-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Theodore Cockley, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.

Mary Bonner
Mary Bonner, 83, of Endicott, N.Y., formerly of this city, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at home after a brief illness. She was founder and owner of Bonner’s Boutique. She was a member of the Williamsport Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association and Travelers Protective Association of America Post W. Surviving are her companion, John MacMinn of this city; three daughters, Carol Ann of Gainsville, Fla., Lynda Lumpkin of Birmingham, Ala., and Cynthia D. of Jersey Shore; a son, Raymond of Endicott; three sisters, Camille Litrento of Endicott, Theodora Lourie in Louisiana and Juanita Leiva in Florida; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Allen’s, East Main Street, Endicott.

Thelma E. Burdan
NORDOMONT - Thelma E. “Butch” Burdan, 89, of Nordmont, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. Her husband, Lester Lee, died Aug. 27, 1975. She owned Burdan’s Tavern in Dushore, retiring in 1970. She was assisted operating the tavern by her sister, Edna Swinehart Loughnane. She attended local schools. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Born May 26, 1911, in Pottstown, she was a daughter of Eugene B. and Edna B. Lightcap Swinehart. Surviving are a sister, Edna May Swinehart Loughnane of Warrensville; a niece, Barbara Covello of Harleysville. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the church, with her pastor, the Rev. Karen B. Allen, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pottstown. Friends may call at the church from 2 to 3 p.m.Friday. Arrangements are being handled by Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore.

Alice H. Hoy
JERSEY SHORE - Alice H. Hoy, 85, formerly of 314 Oak St., died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in the Manor Care Health Center here. She retired in 1977 from GTE. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Born Aug. 11, 1915, here, she was the daughter of Calvin A. Hoy and the former Susan E. Vangorder. Surviving are one sister, Marian DeShay of Caribou, Maine; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery, with her pastor, the Rev. Anke Deibler, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Kimberly Jo Maier Burd
MANSFIELD - Kimberly Jo Maier Burd, 52, of Mansfield died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at home. She was employed by the Bradford and Tioga County Women, Infants and Children program until 1998 and previously at Broad Acres Nursing Home, Wellsboro, and Haskettstown, N.J., Community Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a graduate of Northwood University, Midland, Mich., and Northampton Community College Nursing Program. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Washington, N.J. Born Sept. 18, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., she was a daughter of Melvin and Leona Jerard Maier. Surviving are her husband of 31 years, James R. Burd; two sons, Mark and Douglas, both of Mansfield; two sisters, Melody L. Maier of Darien, Ill., and Jodi L. Maier of San Francisco, Calif.; and two grandsons, Derrick R. and Jarrod M. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Maier. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Holy Child Catholic Church, 242 S. Main St., with the Rev. Louis T. Kaminski officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St.

Sabrina Marie Noble
Sabrina Marie Noble, infant daughter of Jessie A. Foulkrod and Robert James Noble Jr. of this city, was stillborn Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Surviving, besides her parents, are a stepbrother, Robert James Noble III of Selinsgrove; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Georgia Foulkrod of this city; maternal greatparents, Della Toner, Helen Johnson, Harold Johnson and Charlie Foulkrod, all of this city; paternal grandfather, Robert J. Noble Sr. of this city, Gwendlyn DeHaven-Noble of Philadelphia; and paternal great-grandmother, Cathrine Noble of Philadephia. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Frank Showers, pastor of Church of the Savior Lutheran, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.

John D. Null
John D. Null, 49, of 602 Tule St., Montoursville, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Kuujjuaq, Quebec, Canada, while on a hunting expedition. He is the husband of the former Karen M. Bamonte. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

June A. Wiser
June A. Wiser, 81, of Trout Road, State College, mother of a city man, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital. Her husband, Gerald R. Wiser, died Feb. 1, 1992. She retired in 1981 from the admissions office at Penn State University. She was a 1937 graduate of Worth Township High School. She was a member of Port Matilda Baptist Church. Born March 23, 1919, in Hudson Township, Centre County, she was a daughter of William and Maude A, Williams. Surviving are a daughter, Barbara of State College; two sons, Larry R. of Clarion and Steven R. of this city; a brother, Lawrence E. Williams of Port Matilda; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the church, in Port Matilda, with the Rev. Timothy McGill, officiating. Burial will be in Presbyterian Cemetery, Port Matilda. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, Milesburg.

Anna Faye Knauff
Anna Faye Knauff, 96, of 829 Franklin St., city, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Manor Care South. Her husband, Paul C., died December 1971. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Elks Club Ladies Auxiliary, city.She was a member of the New Covenant United Church of Christ, where she was active in earlier years. Born May 5, 1904 in Shamokin Dam, she was the daughter of Sherman Fisher and Sarah St. Clair Fisher. Surviving are a niece and caregiver, Diane Murray of this city; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Grace Stahlnecker. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Twin Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bruce R. Druckenmiller, officiating. A memorial service will be announced. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

David Leroy Chaplain
David Leroy Chaplain, 52, of Mill Hall, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Home. He was employed at Jersey Shore Steel from 1972 until this year as a laborer and forklift operator. He attended Lock Haven High School. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. Born Sept. 3, 1948, in Lock Haven, he was a son of Charles and Mildred Cryder Chaplain. Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Jo Yearick; a daughter, Sabrina J. Neff of Lock Haven; a sister, LeAnn Caseman in New Hampshire; four brothers, Charles in Texas, James of Lock Haven, Keith of Antes Fort and William of Castanea; and two grandchildren. A private funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Neff’s, 837 Main St., Howard.

Doris B. Chappell
Doris B. Chappell, 66, of 16407 Alabama Highway 9, Piedmont, Ala., mother of two city women, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Regional Medical Center, Alabama. She and her husband, Bernard Chappell, observed their 23rd wedding anniversary Oct. 27. She attended Hollis Cross Roads Baptist Church. Born in Alabama, she was a daughter of Everett and Sally Bryan. Surviving are, her husband, Bernard of Piedmont; three daughters, Doris Ann Clark and Abby Weston, both of this city Patricia Thomas in Montana; a stepdaughter, Kathy Knarr of Niagra Falls, N.Y.; a son, Charles Lynch of Philadelphia; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Services were Saturday. Burial was in Young’s Chapel Cemetery. Local services will be announced later. Arrangements were handled by Mickelsen-McGee’s.

MaryLou Heiny
MaryLou Heiny, 72, of Millville, N.J., mother of a city man, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at South Jersey Hospital Systems, Millville. She was born in Jersey Shore. She worked at Adult Community Programs, Vineland, N.Y., for 11 years and had worked for the American Red Cross. She was an usher at Walnut Street Theater, Philadelphia. She was a board member of Millville Women’s Club, Millville, N.J. and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Vineland. Surviving are a son, Robert of this city; three daughters, Marcia K. Bujarski of Clear Lake, Minn., Kimberly Guinan and Christina H. both of Vineland; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Wainwright-Bernhardt’s, 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland.
