Rose Sykes
Rose Sykes, 85, of Sayville, N.Y., formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. She was a piano stylist in the Long Island, N.Y., area for 25 years and previously worked for the National Hospital for Speech Disorders for 25 years. She was a 1931 graduate of Williamsport High School and the former Dickinson Junior College, now Lycoming College. Born Oct. 4, 1914, in Austin, she was a daughter of Harry and Ida Hurwitz Sykes. Surviving are a brother, David of Chevy Chase, Md. and a sister, Reva Friedson of Denton, Texas. The funeral was Wednesday at Allen and Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St., with Rabbi Mac Portal, officiating. Burial was in Ohev Sholom Cemetery.

Rosanne Tillson
SOUTH RENOVO - Rosanne Tillson, 82, of 727 Pennsylvania Ave. died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center, here. Her husband, Frederick Tillson, died Jan. 25, 1995. She operated Rosanne’s Beauty Salon, Niagara Falls, N.Y. She recently published a book Inside From the Outside, dealing with the Niagara Frontier Country Club. She was a 1936 graduate of Renovo High School and Winfred Academy, Philadelphia. She enjoyed golfing, painting and traveling. Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Renovo, she was a daughter of John J. and Mary Stephanic Redis. Surviving are two brothers, Michael and Paul, both of South Renovo and a sister, Lucille Toub of Vero Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by a brother, John and six sisters, Mary, Agnes, Anne, Helen, Frances and Susan. Family services are pending. Arrangements are being handled by Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St., Renovo.

Robert S. Foresman Sr.
The funeral will be Monday for Robert S. Foresman Sr., 70, of Watsontown RR 3, who died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, while removing a tree from his son’s farm in Delaware Township. He and his wife, the former Eleanor Wertman, observed their 47th wedding anniversary March 7. He was a dairy farmer in Delaware Township for 40 years until selling his herd in July. He was a former school bus driver and Delaware Township supervisor. He had previously been employed by the former Philco and Jasper Corporations, Watsontown. He was well known for his Percheron draft horses. He was a member of Delaware Grange 1895, the National Farmers Organization, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown RR 1 where he was a former Sunday school superintendent. Born Oct. 19, 1929, in Elimsport, he was a son of D. Watson and Helen M. Fritz Foresman. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son Robert S. Jr. of Watsontown RR 1; a daughter, Carol E. Stover of Watsontown RR 1; five brothers, David of Mifflinburg, James of Allenwood, Hugh of Turbotville RR 1, Richard of Muncy RR 1 and Daniel of Muncy; a sister, Sue Reaser of Milton RR 1; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. at the church, Watsontown RR 1, with the Rev. Gregory A. Kramer, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery. Friends may call at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Waldek Talvi
Waldek Talvi, 90, of Blossburg, formerly of New York City, died Friday, OCt. 6, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. He was the widower of the former Marje Kalas. He was a building superintendent in New York. He was a member of Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church, New York City. Born April 9, 1910, in Narva, Estonia, New York City, he was a son of Mathis and Wilhemina Stolts Talvi. Surviving are a son, Matthew of Blossburg; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Carleton’s, Wellsboro.

Marion L. Hall
Marion L. Hall, 63, of 246 Louise Ave., Montgomery, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Her husband, Edward A. Hall Sr., died in 1983. She was a custodian at Montgomery School District. She was a member of Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 ladies auxiliary. She was a graduate of the former Watsontown High School. Born Oct. 20, 1936, in Turbotville, she was a daughter of Ralph and Kathryn Aunkst Crawford. Surviving are her mother of Muncy Valley Skilled Nursing Unit; two daughters, Bonnie L. Crawford of Montgomery and Penny A. Pysher of Allenwood; a brother, Walter E. Crawford of Turbotville; eight sisters, Emily M. Gotschall, Lena M. Hall, Nancy K. Rice, Beverly A. Heverly, and Isabelle K. Crawford, all of Watsontown, Miriam L. Neufer of Muncy, Margaret E. Miller and Mildred M. Yoder of Lock Haven; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marlin O. and Gene L. Crawford. Graveside funeral services will be at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. A. Bruce Amme, Zion Lutheran Church, Turbotville, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Betzer’s, 40 E. Houston St., Montgomery.

Hazel K. Snyder
Hazel K. Snyder, 86, of Montgomery RR 1, formerly of Watsontown and Turbotville, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Kramm Nursing Home, Watsontown. Her husband, Percy G. Snyder, died April 15, 1992. She had been employed the former Philco Corp., and had cleaned homes in the Watsontown area. She attended God’s Missionary Church, New Columbia. Born Jan. 27, 1914, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of James and Minnie M. Aikey II. Surviving are two sons, James G. of Montgomery RR 1 and Percy G. Jr. of Selinsgrove; a daughter, Kay L. Stahley of Montgomery RR 1; a sister, Annabelle J. Hurska of Watsontown; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Revs. John R. Manley, God’s Missionary Church, New Columbia and Jerry L. Caswell, Friendship Baptist Church, Watsontown RR 2, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m.

Clarence E. Bomboy
Clarence E. Bomboy, 82, of 400 Lycoming St., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Hillside Assisted Living where he had resided for two weeks. He retired after 30 years from the former Avco/Lycoming. He was a World War II Navy Seabee. He was a member of the Loyalsock Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. Born July 11, 1918 in Washingtonville, he was a son of Florance M. and Mary Catherine Moser Bomboy. Surviving are his third wife, the former, Elizabeth Confer of Lancaster S.C.; four sons, Ray M. of Cogan Station, Larry W. of Montoursville, Keith D. of Unityville and Kevin D. of Reading; a stepson, Lynn Phillips of Lewistown; stepdaughter, Sara Phillips of Lancaster S.C.; a brother, Charles W. of White Deer; three sisters, Dorothy I. Springman of Montoursville, Mary E. Lewis of this city and Beverly Scantlan of Muncy; two step-grandchildren; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew he reared, William Lewis III of Proctor. His first wife, the former Verda C. Stugart, died 1983 and his second wife, the former G. Marie Keebler, died June 21 1988. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Theodore L. Cockley, Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Geneva Palmer Bickel
JERSEY SHORE - Geneva Palmer Rich Bickel, 97, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at ManorCare Health Services, Jersey Shore. Her husband, William N. Bickel, died in 1976. Bickel worked as a social worker in Woolrich. She grew up in Woolrich and graduated from the former Lock Haven High School in 1922 and the Dickinson Seminary in 1923. A lifelong member of the Woolrich Community United Methodist Church, she served as its children’s department superintendent and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. She was well know for her Children’s Day and Christmas Programs. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ivanhoe Chapter 28. Born Dec. 31, 1903, in Woolrich, she was a daughter of Charles H. and Emma S. Shaff Rich. She is survived by cousins Michael B. Rich II and John E. Rich. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in Woolrich United Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Ellen Evans officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Yost-Gedon’s, 121 West Main St., Lock Haven.

Leanore K. Perry
Leanore K. Perry, 83, formerly of this city, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at HCR Manor Care, Harrisburg. She was employed by the former Williamsport Paper Box Co. and the former S. & E. Market. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was an avid reader. Born June 27, 1917, in this city, she was a daughter of Herbert J. and Magdalena Bower Enigk Sr. Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte E. Rabuck of Harrisburg; two sisters, Kathleen L. Enigk and Arlene M. Vierra, both of Montoursville; and a brother, John W. Enigk of Venice, Fla. A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, 326 Washington Blvd., with Msgr. Stephen McGough, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Alice Marie Hayes
GALETON - Alice Marie Hayes, 82, of Galeton, formerly of Cross Fork, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Margaret F. Anderson
Margaret F. Anderson, 80, of 290 George St., St. Marys, died Friday, Oct.6, 2000, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh after a brief illness. She was the sister of a Renovo resident. She and her husband, Fred G. Anderson, observed their 48th wedding anniversary Aug. 2. She was a lifelong resident of the Kersey area and graduated from Kersey High School in 1939. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, St. Marys, and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for many years. Born July 21, 1920, at Kersey, she was a daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Anderson Ernst. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Anderson of St. Marys, and a sister, Elizabeth Jeselnik of Renovo. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Boniface Church in Kersey with the Rev. John Kuzilla officiating. Burial will be in the Maria Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at Lynch-Radkowski’s, 169 Center St., St. Marys, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Dorothy Lydia Dewalt
Dorothy Lydia Dewalt, 95, formerly of 407 Avenue F, Riverside, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Sunbury. She had been a resident of Emmanuel Home Assisted Care in Northumberland for 20 months. Her husband, Frederick S., died in July 1976. She was a waitress at several restaurants in Danville and worked in the kitchen at Geisinger Medical Center. She was a member of St. Peter’s Methodist Church and of the Senior Action Center. Born Jan. 25, 1905, at Grovania, she was a daughter of John B. and Amelia G. Heimback Welliver. She attended Grovania schools. Surviving are two sons, Donald of Danville and Marlin of Riverside; four daughters, Arlene Ferguson of Coventry, Conn., Adelene Stoddard of Sunbury, Elsie Kimbel of Rushtown and Carol Wyland of South Williamsport; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and John; one brother, John E. Welliver; one sister, Elsie Kline; one granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brady’s, 320 Church St., Danville, with the Rev. Allen Goss, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Grovania. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 today and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.

Julia W. Nichols
WELLSBORO – Julia W. Nichols, 94, of 44 Fischler St., died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her home. Her husband, Franklin W. died Aug. 31, 1996. She was employed by the Tioga County Children Services for many years. She was a member of the Grey Ladies at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, the Tioga County Historical Society and the Stony Fork Grange. She was a member of Wellsboro United Methodist Church and was active in its auxiliary. She attended Denver University and Nebraska Wesleyan College, where she graduated in 1929. She received her master’s degree from Smith College School of Social Work in Northampton, Mass. Born April 12, 1906, in Denver, Colo., she was a daughter of Lyle C. and Carrie Clement Waterbury. Surviving are a son, Lyle A. of Wellsboro, a daughter, Caroline A. Lee of Reading, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., with the Rev. Fred E. Hickok, pastor of Wellsboro United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Wellsboro Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Monday. The family will provide the flowers.

Linda H. Walters
TIOGA – Linda H. Walters, 62, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at home. She and her husband Steve were married for 42 years. She retired after 29 1/2 years as a German teacher at Williamson Junior-Senior High School. She initiated the German curriculum there and carried it to its completion. She attended Syracuse & Stanford University where she helped establish the FLES curriculum. She was a graduate of the former Mansfield State Teacher’s College with a bachelors degree in German and Library Science. She served as children’s resource and outreach librarian at the Green Free Library in Wellsboro. She was the secretary of Galeton High School Class of 1956. She was the recipient of the Girl Scouts’ highest award for bravery and maintained a lifelong affiliation with the organization. She was the first female lifeguard to be hired by the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters. Walters was a member of the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus and the Friday Club. Born May 24, 1938, at Watrous, she was a daughter of Allan and Norma Strait Howland. Surviving, besides her husband and mother, are a son, Mitch of Hattiesburg, Miss., a sister, Helen of Tioga, and two brothers, Allan Howland of Laurel, Md., and Michael Howland of Reston, Va. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Joseph McNamara, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Elk Run Cemetery, Watrous. Friends may call Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield, from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Alice Jane Wilson
Alice Jane Wilson, 84, formerly of Warrensville, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, in Manatawny Manor Nursing Home, near Pottstown. She and her husband Harry were the former operators of the former Wilson Funeral Home, (now Catagnus’) in Pottstown from 1948 to 1983. She was a member of the Manatawny Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; the Order of Eastern Star Schuylkill Chapter 338; the Order of Amaranth Pottstown Court 113; the Ladies Auxiliary of both Nativity Commandery 71 and Knights Templar, Pottstown; the YWCA, Women’s Club; the Pottstown Garden Club; the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pottstown American Legion Post 47. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pottstown. Born in Warrensville, she was a daughter of George R. and Lulu Super Lundy. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy A. Price of Pottstown and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Pearl Lundy; and a brother, Dr. Donald Lundy. A memorial service will be scheduled. Arrangements are being handled by Catagnus’, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown.

Linda Ann Boyles
FORKSVILLE - Linda Ann Boyles, 32, of Forksville RR 1 died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, as the result of injuries suffered in an accident. She and her husband, Ralph Boyles, observed their sixth wedding anniversary Sept. 9. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Born Sept. 3, 1968, in Cape May, N.J., she was a daughter of Richard and Frances Borrell Stockton. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her father; a daughter, Nicole; a stepdaughter, Bonnigene; a sister, Helen; five brothers, Herbert, Daniel, Edward, Michael, and Dick. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hillsgrove United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsgrove Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Russell P. McHenry’s, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore.
