Thomas James Renehan
Thomas James "Jimmie" Renehan, 79, of State College died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Centre Community Hospital. He and his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth "Liz" McFadden, observed their 54th wedding anniversary on June 3. He retired in 1979 as an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Co. of American, after working there since 1954. He was a sales leader and received numerous awards with Prudential. He previously worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad and later operated and owned a business. A 1939 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School, Renovo, he was an Army veteran, serving during World War II as a sergeant and radio control operator in the Pacific. Born Aug. 16, 1921, in Renovo, he was a son of James and Emma Burk Renehan. Surviving, besides his wife, are three daughters, Karen Lepin of Phoenix, Ariz., Maureen Branigan of State College and Trish Olmstead of Ephrata; a son, Thomas J. Jr. of West Chester; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson, Zachary Kerney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, State College, with the Rev. Martin D. McCamley officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hyner. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Koch’s, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College, and from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Jeffrey Lee Schrack
Jeffrey Lee Schrack, 44, of Lodi, N.J., formerly of Sugar Valley, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Columbia University Hospital in New York City. Earlier in life, Schrack was employed by the Pit Stop restaurant and later at Farmland Dairies and Georgia Pacific, both in New Jersey. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing. Born July 17, 1956, in Danville, he was the son of Edison E. Schrack and June E. Lehman Schrack of Watsontown. Surviving are two brothers, John of Modesto, Calif. and Michael of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a sister, Audrey Houser of Watsontown, and numerous uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Welker’s, 95 E. Main St., Loganton, with the Rev. Eric Deibler officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Loganton. Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

David Steven Thum
David Steven Thum, 37, of Phoenix Run Road, Sabinsville, Tioga County, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in a traffic accident in Potter County. He was the husband of Patricia A. McGee Thum. He was managing partner with his parents of Dasco Beef Farm, Hector Township. He was a graduate of Franklin High School, Franklin, N.J., and received his Associate Degree in Agriculture from the State University of N.Y. at Alfred. He was a member of Tioga-Potter Farm Bureau, was crew chief for the family owned dirt motorsports racing team that competed successfully in the Northeastern U.S., and was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman. He loved his children, family and animals. Born Sept. 16, 1963, in Somerville, N.J., he was the son of Richard D. and Cornelia W. Boyden Thum. Surviving, besides his wife of Westfield are, step-daughters, Jessica and Alicia Cary of Westfield; a brother, Douglas Scott of Mooresville, N.C.; a step-grandmother, Alexsandra Thum; several aunts, uncles and two nephews. A private family service will be conducted by Pastor David Wells, racing chaplain for dirt motorsports. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.

James M. Hunter Jr.
James M. “Henry” Hunter Jr., 38, of Muncy Valley, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in an accident on Route 254 in Northumberland County. He and his wife, the former Kimberly A. Parsons, observed their 17th wedding anniversary June 25. He was a truck driver for HRI, Inc., Bloomsburg and formerly was an equipment mechanic specialist in the Air Force until his discharge in 1989. He was a member of American Legion 601, Sonestown and was currently fire chief of Muncy Valley Area Volunteer Fire Co. He enjoyed hunting. Born Aug. 30, 1962, he was a son of James and Marie Moser Hunter. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother of Sonestown; a daughter, Cassie at home; a brother, Steven of Laporte; three sisters, Arla Hacker and Myrna Levan, both of Muncy Valley and Sherry Hunter of Montgomery; and grandparents, Anna B. and Cyril L. Moser of Muncy. He was preceded in death by his father, and step-father, Lester R. Shaner. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley, with the Revs. Karen B. Allen and James Bechtel, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, following a fireman’s honor procession through Sonestown, with military honors accorded by the combined veterans organizations. Friends may call at the church from 1 to 2 today. Arrangements are being handled by Mc-Carty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville.

Karen Vargo Knutsen
Karen Vargo Knutsen, 34, of Alpharetta, Ga., a former area resident, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000. A 1984 graduate of Warrior Run High School, she received her bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and her master’s from Bloomsburg University. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Arabian Horse Association. Surviving are her husband, Mark; infant daughter, Grace Valentine; her parents, Linda Goldman of Watsontown and John Vargo of Turbotville; a sister, Krista McMonigle of Muncy; and a brother, Peter Vargo of Lewisburg. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Main St., Watsontown, with the Rev. Michael Boggs officiating.

Roger A. Welshans
Roger A. Welshans, 32, of 123 Montour St., Montoursville, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital Emergency Room after being stricken at work. He and his wife, the former Rosalyn B. Holbrook, would have observed their 10th wedding anniversary Oct. 30. He was employed by Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. for seven years. He received an associate degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 1999. Born April 17, 1968, in Great Falls, Mont., he was a son of Roger C. and Patricia L. Chambers Welshans. Surviving, besides his wife, are his parents of Denver, Colo.; a son, Cody M. Klinger, at home; maternal grandparents, Robert and Ruth Chambers of Jersey Shore; and paternal grandparents, Marvin and Kathryn Clark of Jersey Shore. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Samuel P. Reedm of Tivoli United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Sharon L. Brady
Sharon L. Brady, 53, of 301 Bowen Drive died there Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, following an extended illness. She and her husband, Clarence E. Brady, observed their 33rd wedding anniversary July 1. She had been employed by the former GTE Sylvania, Montoursville, and Wundies. Born Aug. 14, 1947, she was a daughter of Jack and Dora Mae Himes. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Scott E. Brady of Mifflintown and Mark E. of Linden; three brothers, John Ryder of Linden, Edward Ryder in North Carolina and Frank Himes of this city; and a sister, Diane Yaw of Cogan Station. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of Christ, 1250 Almond St., with the Rev. R. Kenneth Weiss officiating. Friends may call at the church from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.

Helen K. Kline Baker
BENTON - Helen K. Kline Baker, 89, of Main Street died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Bonham Nursing Center in Register. Her husband of 70 years, the Rev. Edgar R. Baker, died in 1999. She was employed with her husband at his store in Talmar from 1929 to 1944. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Talmar. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She attended Greenwood School and was a 1928 graduate of Millville High School. Born Dec. 31, 1910, in Rohrsburg, Columbia County, she was a daughter of Warren and Grace Parker Kline. Surviving are two sons, Glen R. of Severna Park, Md., and Wayne K. of Alexandria, Va.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Kline Johnson, and a brother, John Albert Kline. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McMichael’s, 4394 Red Rock Road, Route 487, with the Rev. Brad Spangenberg officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Talmar. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Ida I. Egli
MUNCY - Ida I. Egli, 102, formerly of Sherman Street died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, where she had lived for more than two years. Her husband, William R. Egli, died Oct. 6, 1976. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Born here Aug. 29, 1898, she was a daughter of William C. and Mary A. Shook Fuller. Surviving are a daughter, Lorma Ferrell of Picture Rocks; a brother, Everett Fuller of Muncy; a sister, Edna Hitesman of Muncy; four grandchildren, Robert and William Ferrell, Susan Troller and Sharon Ketchen; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Betty. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallis-Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., with the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday.

Rex L. Moore
GALETON - Rex L. Moore, 79, of Galeton died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at home. His wife, the former Mildred Garrison, died in 1992. He owned and operated Moore’s Garage for many years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member and past master of Masonic Lodge 602 here. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Born here May 17, 1921, he was a son of William L. and Edith Bartle Moore. Surviving are two daughters, Susan K. Pagano of Galeton and Peggy Persing of Churchville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Brian Persing and Kim Gobel; and his fiancee, Vera Karhan of Germania. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Sharon Gearing officiating. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St.

E. Diane Hamby
MILL HALL - E. Diane Hamby, 64, of Mill Hall RR 3, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the home of her son in Salona. She and her husband, Charles William Hamby, observed their 42nd wedding anniversary Dec. 29. She was currently president of Family Living Program Development Committee. She was member and former treasurer of Clinton County Fair Association and was formerly a 4-H leader. She was a 1952 graduate of Duffern High School and attended Hackensack Hospital and Bergin Pines School of Nursing, to become a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of Living Faith Free Methodist Church, Mill Hall RR3 where she served as Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Born Nov. 10, 1935, in Tallman, N.Y., she was a daughter of Raymond and Lucille Cole Post. Surviving, besides her husband, are three daughters, Sharon Biblehimer of Lock Haven, Karen of Williston, Vt. and Heather of State College; a son, John of Salona; a brother, Dennis Ray Post of Lakeland, Fla.; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St.

Faye M. Kirkner
Faye M. Kirkner, 87, of Dieffenbach Road, Danville, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she had been admitted Sunday. She and her husband, Elmer E. Kirkner observed their 69th wedding anniversary March 17. She retired from the former Myco Corp., Montgomery in 1975 and had previously been employed by Turbotville and Riverside Dress Factories. In earlier life she had been a telephone operator in Washingtonville. She was a member of Washingtonville Lutheran Church for more than 50 years. Born Sept. 29, 1913, in Derry Township, Montour County, she was a daughter of John and Bessie A. Cooper Dershem. Surviving, besides her husband, is a daughter, Patsy A. Baumann of Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Dershem, and a sister, Ellen Diehl. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Melody Sell, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Wasingtonville Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at Brooks’, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Dennis L. Schick
Dennis L. Schick, 54, of Ivyland, a city native, died there recently after a lengthy illness. He was a guidance counselor at Neshaminy Middle School for more than 30 years and previously taught social studies at Carl Sanburg Junior High. He was a 1964 graduate of Loyalsock High School and a 1968 graduate of Lock Haven University. He received his master’s degree from Trenton, N.J., State College. He was a son of Earl and Mary Schick. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Somerville-Schick; a son Benjamin; and a sister, Mary Louise Kalvitis of Chazy, N.Y. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at Fluehr III’s, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road, Richboro. Friends may call at the from 1:30 to 2 p.m.

Jack C. Shaffer
Jack C. Shaffer, 63, of 223 Chaapel Mountain Road, Cogan Station, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Annearundel Medical Center, Anapolis Md. after being stricken there. He and his wife, the former Mynra Jane Fischer, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Dec. 19. He retired in 1996 from Textron-Lycoming and in 1975 from the Navy. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was an amateur radio operator and his call number was W3T0. He had also worked with the Boy Scouts of America. Born July 17, 1937, in Lockport, he was a son of Jesse C. and Carolyn Coffey Shaffer Surviving besides his wife, are a daughter, Linda C. Miller of this city; a son Glenn C. of Liberty; two sisters, Roberta Dusenbery of Bath, N.Y. and Carol Moser of Michigan City, Ind.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel and Carolyn Miller and Erin. The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Daniel May of Liberty Lutheran Parish officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Adelbert F. Tomlinson Jr.
ELKLAND - Adelbert F. “Skip” Tomlinson Jr., 66, formerly of Elkland, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at Bradford County Manor, Burlington. He had been employed by Project Green Thumb. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Born April 15, 1934, in Blossburg, he was a son of Adelbert and Marjorie Whitney Tomlinson. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, the former Carolyn Davis of Lawrenceville; two daughters, Debra Green of Ocala, Fla., and Krista of Addison, N.Y.; two sons, Alfred of Oscala and Wesley of Addison; a brother, James of Mansfield; three sisters, Helen Burt of Mansfield, Mary Ann Aumick of Mainesburg and Kay Crumb of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia. The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wilston’s, 18 N. Main St., Mansfield.

Jack C. Shaffer, 63, of 223 Chaapel Mountain Road, Cogan Station, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis Md. after being stricken on his boat in Annapolis. He and his wife, the former Myrna Jane Fischer, observed their 40th wedding anniversary Dec. 19. He retired in 1996 from Textron-Lycoming and retired in 1975 from the Navy as an aircraft electronics specialist. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and had his 100-ton captain license. He was an amateur radio operator and his call number was W3T0. He had worked with the Boy Scouts. Born July 17, 1937, in Lockport, he was a son of Jesse C. and Carolyn Coffey Schaffer Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Linda C. Miller of this city; a son, Glenn C. of Liberty; two sisters, Roberta Dusenbery of Bath, N.Y. and Carol Moser of Michigan City, Ind.; three grandchildren, Nathaniel and Carolyn Miller and Erin. The funeral will be at 7:30 tonight at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Daniel May of Liberty Lutheran Parish officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
