He retired from Spring Window Fashions, Montgomery RR and was a route driver for Capital Bakeries. An Army veteran of World War II he was a member of Garrett Cochran Post 1 American Legion. Born May 14, 1918, in Ralston, he was a son of William and Mary Sutton Hosband. Surviving are two sons, William of Corana, Calif. and Michael Wood of Manifee, Calif.; a stepson, Richard L. Hill Jr. of this city; two stepdaughters, Rowena E. Emick and Kathleen C. Hill, both of this city; a sister, Lorraine Rosenhoover of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with the Rev. Daren Williams, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating.

Karen Jackson-Ingram, 38, of this city, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at home, after a brief illness. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Born Nov. 22, 1961, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of Rubin and Diane Jackson. Surviving are her husband, Darryl Ingram; her mother; two daughters; a sister; and two grandsons. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of the Redeemer Baptist, 24th and Dickerson streets, Philadelphia. Burial will be private.

John D. Ludwig Jr., 72, of Tucson, Ariz., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000. He was the husband of the former Alice A. Swartz, formerly of Muncy. Crissie Lewis Winters, 69, of New Port Rickey, Fla, a former longtime area resident, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2000, in Ricky Manor Nursing Home. She had been a sewing machine operator. Born in Trout Run, she moved to Florida 20 years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Gloria Knipe of Cogan Station, Barbara Young of this city and Sharon Rose in Florida; a son, Clifford Lewis of Jersey Shore; two sisters, Leona Mull of Milton and Alma Clark of Hughesville; a brother, Larue Bartlow of Muncy; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children.

Semaj Rahmir Vann-Webster, was stillborn Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Surviving, besides her parents, Kevin Webster and Shamika L. Vann of this city, are a sister, Alexis J. Vann of this city; maternal grandparents, Lorrainia Vann of this city and George Brenwer of Philadelphia; and paternal grandmother, Shirl Webster of Philadelphia. MONTGOMERY - Norman Frederick Bider, 79, formerly of Montgomery, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg. His wife, the former Kathryn I. Stump, died April 20, 1988. He retired in 1981 from Avco-Lycoming, where he was a tool maker. He was a member and past master of Ivy Lodge 397 F&AM, the Scottish Rite, Lycoming Royal Arch Chapter 222, the Baldwin Commandry 22, Adoniram Council 26, all in this city, and Zafar Grotto in South Williamsport. An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a member of Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251. He was a Boy Scout leader for 13 years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Born Sept. 13, 1921, in Corning, N.Y., he was a son of Thomas and Nellie Ogden Bider. Surviving are a son, Kenneth W. of Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Linda K. Shreck of Montgomery; a half-brother, Wilbur Odgen of Lawrenceville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Langendorfer, and a grandson, Kevin. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the church, 50 E. Houston Ave., with the Rev. Barry Bence, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Grace Memorial Gardens, Hudson, Fla. William D. Steinbach
MILTON - William D. Steinbach, 80, of Milton RR 3 died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He and his wife, the former Hester A. Baumgartner, would have observed their 54th wedding anniversary this month. He retired in 1982 as a machinist at AC & F Industries. He was a 1939 graduate of Milton High School and attended Williamsport Community College. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a Protestant. Born Dec. 25, 1919, in Potts Grove, he was a son of W. Ralph and Mary Catherine Boyer Steinbach. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Jack R. of Milton; a daughter, Jill R. Moser of Milton RR 3; a sister, Fay C. Engleman of Milton; a brother, Roland “Archie” of Albuquerque, N.M.; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, M. Helen Goff and Thelma Sterling. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Grand View Cemetery, with the Rev. Stephen G. Shirk, officiating. CANTON - F.R. "Randy" Campbell, 79, of this borough died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000. His wife, the former Winona Priset, died in September 1994. He managed A&P markets in Canton, Horseheads, N.Y., and Towanda until his retirement in the early 1970s. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Canton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 714. He was a member, past governor, past president and held several degrees at Canton Lodge 429 Loyal Order of Moose. He was a member of Innes Hose Co. and Canton Borough Council. Born March 5, 1921, in Wellsboro, he was a son of Franklin R. and Ethel Olmstead Campbell. Surviving are four daughters, Kay Seeley of Canton RR 2, Sue Hoover of Canton RR 3, Jan Smith of Corning and Loy Leggett of Torrance, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Keller. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Morse and Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St., with the Rev. Lillian Katherine Crum Soper, 92, a longtime resident of Troy, and native of Roseville, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Bradford County Manor, Burlington. Her husband, Charles Leland Soper, died in January of 1967. She was a stock car driver and powder puff champion, She was a member of Canton Chapter 981 WOTM and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 8675 of Troy. She was a member of Alba Christian Church, Alba. Born June 8, 1908, in Roseville, she was a daughter of George and Olive Yeomans Crum. Surviving are three sons, Leland Charles of Panama City, Fla., George “Jack” of Canton and Robert “Boney” of Gillett; four daughters, Julia Passeri of Columbia Cross Roads, Sally Wood of Alba, Jean Koop of Van Eten, N.Y. and Connie of Troy; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a son, Richard; a daughter, Helen “Polly”; and a granddaughter. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Morse & Kleese’s, 40 N. Center St., Canton, with the Rev. David B. Mildred E. West, 80, 168 Hiller Road, Montoursville, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Williamsport Home where she had been a resident for two months. Her husband, Charles E. West, died Feb. 28, 1997. A registered nurse at Williamsport Hospital she was a 1941 graduate of Phillipsburg Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Montoursville. Born Oct. 26, 1919, Houtzdale, she was a daughter of Thorvald and Alma Olson Johnson. Surviving are three sons, Lynn E. of Hume Va., Lee A. of Point Pleasant, N.J. and Norman C. of West Henrietta N.Y.; a brother, Glenn of Madera; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Alton Johnson. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, 369 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. J. Jeffrey Zetto, officiating. Helen K. Bower, 76, of Winfield RR 1, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She and her husband, Earl R. Bower, observed their 22nd wedding anniversary Jan. 1. She worked for Bell Telephone retiring as supervisor of educational relations in 1982 after 30 years. She was a member of the Pioneers of Bell Telephone. She was a 1942 graduate of Sunbury High School and attended Dramatic School in Philadelphia. She was a member of St. John’s Church, Dry Valley. Surviving, besides her husband, are three sisters, Margaret Heitzenrater and Janet Shelhamer, both of this city and Estelle Bahner of Sunbury; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Kroberger. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Seebold’s, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with the Rev. Robert C. Linke, officiating. CANTON - Joseph Henry Rickard, 88, of Canton, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Bradford County Manor, Burlington. His wife, the former Julia Sterling, died in 1986. He was chief of the Canton Borough Police for 25 years and formerly worked for the secret service, Washington, D.C. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 714. He was a member of Canton Lodge 429 Loyal Order of Moose. He was a member of the former Canton United Methodist Church and currently attended Canton Ecumenical Parish. Born Oct. 30, 1911, in Indiana, he was a son of Henry and Annie Rickard. Surviving are a son, George of Troy RR 1; two sisters, Dorothy Balinoski of Harrisburg and Eleanor McMullen in Arizona; and two grandchildren, Jada Dellinger and Joseph. Chester L. Mosteller, 73, of 726 Second St., died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Catherine N. Richards, observed their 45th wedding anniversary June 14. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Vidmar Inc., and formerly worked at Williamsport Hospital. Born May 11, 1927, in city, he was a son of Chester and Hester Gordner Mosteller. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Frederick L. of Hughesville, Jeffrey L. and Donald H., both of this city; a daughter, Cindy K. Cecce of Sayre; a sister, Gloria M. MUNCY - Frank Ward Smith, 83, of 3326 Route 405 Highway, Muncy, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital skilled nursing unit where he had been for three days. He and his wife, the former Melva A. Confer, observed their 62nd wedding anniversary Oct. 1. He was a lifelong member of Clarkstown United Methodist Church and he and his wife were the first couple to be married there. He was a butcher and store owner of the former Valley Market, Muncy and was also a dairy farmer in Glade Run. He volunteered at Sun-Lighthouse in Muncy for many years.He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born Sept. 21, 1917, in Muncy Creek Township, he was a son of Frank H. and Margaret Sophia Foust Smith. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Allen L. of Muncy; four daughters, Sylvia M. Farmer of Saranac Lake, N.Y., Carol A. Hughes of Sitka, Alaska, Lucella Temple and Ina J. Phillips, both of Muncy; two sisters, Maude E. Smith and Ruth E. Meckley, both of Muncy; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren; and two brothers, Benton and Gene. BLOOMSBURG - Margaret M. “Peggy” Reese, 70, of 6020 Fort Jenkins Lane, Bloomsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in the Bloomsburg Hospital emergency room after a brief illness. Her husband, Donald H. Reese, died June 4, 1996. She worked at Milco Industries, Blossburg for 10 years. She and her husband operated a juvenile detention home in Lycoming County. She organized the Christmas dinner for the needy at the Bloomsburg Moose Lodge for 14 years. She was a 1947 graduate of Catawissa High School. Born Nov. 5, 1929, in Bloomsburg, she was a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Yohey Sassaman. Surviving are a son, Donald C. of Pennsdale; a daughter, Olivia E. Holcomb of Montoursville; two sisters, Janice Weyant of Binghamton, N.Y. and Edress Hazeltine of Hunlock Creek; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
