Hugh A. McLean, 82, of 300 Leader Drive, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. His wife, Doris McLean, died in the early 1970s. He was a custodian at Bishop Neumann High School. He was a social member of Garrett Cochran Post 1, American Legion. Born Jan. 2, 1918, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, he was a son of Angus and Jessie McMillan McLean Surviving is a sister, Catherine Knittle of Cogan Station. Private services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sander’s, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Mark T. Mahserjian-Smith of Hepburn Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. There will be no visitation.

Besina DiSalvo Rich
Besina DiSalvo Rich, 94, of 911 Sylvan Dell Park Road, Armstrong Township, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Guy E. Rich, died July 30, 1981. She worked on the Armstrong Township Board of Elections for many years. She was a graduate of Williamsport School of Commerce. She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church. Born June 27, 1906, in this city, she was a daughter of Sebastiano and Annunziata Vergona DiSalvo. Surviving are two sisters, Jean D. Amoroso of Wynnewood and Rosemary D. MacLeod of Springfield, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Isadore DiSalvo, and two sisters, Antoinette DiSalvo and Marie D. Schmidt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church, 635 Hepburn St., with the Rev. Francis J. Castellano, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Oscar Leroy Kepner
MUNCY - The funeral will be Thursday for Oscar Leroy “Kep” Kepner, 84, of 1052 Kepner Hill Road, who died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in the Muncy Valley Hospital skilled nursing unit. He and his wife, the former Iva May Fenstermacher, observed their 59th wedding anniversary June 21. He retired 1978 from board of supervisors for Muncy Creek Township. He was also a farmer and and had worked in logging and and at woodworking factories in the area. He attended Messiah Lutheran Church, Clarkstown, and the former Fribley United Methodist Church, Hughesville. Born July 1, 1916, in Moreland Township, he was a son of Raymond H. and Annie Long Kepner. Surviving, besides his wife, at the skilled nursing unit, are three sons, Frank G. of Montoursville, Dean A. of Hughesville and Randy E. of Muncy; a daughter Carol D. Brooke of Sedalia, Mo.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Edwards, St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

David H. Fuller
David H. Fuller, 40, of 110 A Edward Taylor Road, Ocean City, Md., a former area resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at home, after a brief illness. He and his wife, the former Jaye Dee Finkbeiner, observed their 9th wedding anniversary March 9. He was a purchasing agent for Harrison’s Harbor Watch Ocean City and formerly was employed by the former D.A. Fuller Furniture Co., South Williamsport. He was a 1978 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and a 1984 graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Conn. He was a member of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, Ocean City. Born June 16, 1960, in Altoona, he was a son of Daniel Albert and M. Jane Haigh Fuller. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother of this city; a brother, Daniel A. Jr. of Bethany Beach, Del.; three sisters, Kathryn L. Sechrist of Cogan Station, Patricia J. Bailey of Norristown and Jennifer M. Ross of Jersey Shore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, with the Rev. Michael McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Jane E. Roberts
Jane E. Roberts, 75, of 2199 Steam Valley Road, Trout Run, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at ManorCare, South. Her first husband, James Cartwright, died in 1953. Her second husband, Ralph Roberts, died in 1967. She was a homemaker. Born Feb. 1, 1925, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of William J. and Gladys Dietrich Zerby. Surviving are a son, Charles R. Cartwright of Trout Run; a daughter, Jane Hamilton of Addison, N.Y.; a companion, Thomas Grimes of Trout Run; a sister, Lillian M. Davis of this city; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Cartwright, and a sister, Violet Garrison. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with Sister Celine Smith officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Helen V. Allen
Helen V. Allen, 81, of 1445 Sycamore Road, Montoursville, formerly of East Second Avenue, South Williamsport, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Sycamore Manor Health Center. Her husband, Otis D. Allen Sr., died Dec. 15, 1981. She had been employed by the former Grit Publishing Co. in the mail room as a paper inserter.
She was a Protestant. She was a member of the Ladies Club of the Lycoming County Blind Association, now North Central Sight Services, and a former member of Women of the Moose. Born Oct. 22, 1919, in this city, she was a daughter of W. Boyer and Rachel Gamby Hunter. Surviving are a daughter, Bette Gerber of South Williamsport; a son, Otis D. Jr. of Camp Hill; two sisters, Anna Cillo of this city and Ethel Keller of Riverwoods, Lewisburg; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon, and a grandson. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. Robert M. Lehman, chaplain at Sycamore Manor, officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery RR. There will be no visitation.

Margaret Ida Watkins
LOCK HAVEN - Margaret Ida Simcox Watkins, 78, of Lock Haven RR 2, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, in the Lock Haven Hospital extended care unit. She was the widow of Daniel Watkins. She enjoyed canning, baking, fishing and flower gardening. Born June 18, 1922, in McElhattan, she was a daughter of John and Vinnie Josephine Krape Simcox. Surviving are three sons, Robert W. and Raymond, both of Lock Haven and Charles of Keating; two daughters, Kathy Bowmaster and Nancy Young, both of Lock Haven; 31 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; three daughters, Edith, Gladys and Violet; two sons, Danny and Leonard; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Capt. Hilty officiating. Burial will be in Quiggle Cemetery, McElhattan. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 11 a.m. today.

John L. Ferrell
HUGHESVILLE - John L. Ferrell, 88, of 76 Boak Ave., formerly of Muncy Valley, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Muncy Valley Hospital. He and his wife, the former Mildred M. Speary, observed their 62nd wedding anniversary Oct. 19. Born Sept. 13, 1912, in Sonestown, he was a son of Charles M. and Carrie M. Crist Ferrell. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Charles E. of Allenwood and Richard L. of Hughesville; a daughter, Laura Louise Beinlich of Centerville, Ohio; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Durwood and Homer L. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with pastor Donald Miller, chaplain, Hughesville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Muncy Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday. The family will provide the flowers.

Evanore Dooley Wallace
Evanore Dooley Wallace, 92, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Williamsport, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in Heritage Shady Side Nursing Home, Pittsburgh. She was a homemaker. Born Dec. 12, 1907, in Clearfield County, she was a daughter of Clarence and Delia Flick Dooley. Her father was a former pharmacist in Williamsport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wallace. Surviving is a sister, Peggy Dalae of Pittsburgh. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at McCabe’s, 6214 Walnut St., Pittsburgh. Burial will be in Smithfield Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

Helen F. Colley
Helen F. Colley, 77, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center. He was a member of Muncy Baptist Church. Born Feb. 12, 1923, in Muncy, she was a daughter of Levi and Edna Opp Colley. Private graveside services will be at the convenience of the family in Muncy Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Jane K. Dry
MANSFIELD - Jane K. Dry, 88, of 250 N. Main St. died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at Arnot-Ogden Hospital, Elmira, N.Y. She and her husband, Melvin A. Dry, noted their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 5. She was a receptionist and bookkeeper for Drs. E.A. Evans and W.F. Coole here, retiring in 1975. She was a member and past president of Punxsutawney Welcome Wagon Utopian Club, Mansfield University Faculty Wives Club and Alpha Delta Sunday School Class. She was a member of Lodge 321 Order of the Eastern Star and Punxsutawney Chapter of the Order of the Rainbow Girls. She was a 1929 graduate of Bellefonte High School. She was a member of Mansfield First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Born Jan. 2, 1912, in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of Harry B. and Jane Morrison Kern. Surviving are two daughters, Sondra D. Yarrison of Oley and Kay D. Schwab of Loganton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Cemetery, Bellefonte, with the Rev. Thomas Searfoss officiating. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church, 64 E. Wellsboro St., with the Rev. Joyce Treas officiating. Friends may call at Wetzler’s, 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Charles E. Gleockler
DUSHORE - Charles E. “Chet” Gleockler, 76, of Dushore died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Retiring in 1986 from Cherry Township, he previously owned and operated the former Green Swan Hotel and drove truck for the former Dolly Madison Creamery and its successors. He was a member of Loyalsock Post 996 American Legion, Dushore, and AJ Bird Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 384, New Albany. He was a member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church. Born March 16, 1924, in Forksville, he was a son of Chester F. and Ada Yonkin Gleockler. Surviving are his wife, Mary Theresa Gleockler; two sons, Gerald L. and James M, both of Dushore; two daughters, Patricia Renshaw of Dushore and Sandra Richmond of Hillsgrove; two brothers, Richard C. of Forksville and Leon C. of Allegany; two sisters, Rita D. Tubach of Forksville and Shirley P. Bonnell of Montoursville; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Homer’s, 206 Water St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Michael B. Harris, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 996. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Post 996 will pass and review at 7:15.

Helen S. Lewis
Helen S. Lewis, 89, of 1900 Ravine Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at the Williamsport Home. She was the widow of Joseph O. Lewis. A homemaker, she had been employed by John Wanamaker Department Store earlier in life. She was a member of Miraculous Medal and was a teacher and instructor at Helene’s School of Dance in the Philadelphia Area. She was a member of Our Lady of Queen Peace, Hainesport, N.J. Born Jan. 10, 1911, in Colwyn, she was a daughter of William and Elizabeth Brandt Schmidt. Surviving are a son, Michael L. of Trout Run; a daughter, Barbara J. Marshall of Trout Run; a brother, Edward R. Schmidt of Sandston, Va.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cathrine Hatton. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Dorothy M. Hardgrove
Dorothy M. Hardgrove, 78, of 721 Fourth Ave., formerly of Ralston, died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. Her husband, Wilbur J. Hardgrove, died in 1989. She retired from Shop Vac in 1986 after 16 years. She was a member of DuBoistown Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Born Dec. 28, 1921, in Ralston, she was a daughter of Chester and Alta Davis Day. Surviving are two sons, Jack E. Starr of Mesa, Ariz. and James E. Starr of this city; three sisters, Ruby Shipman of this city, Mary Ryder of Hughesville and Hazel Brannaka of Roaring Branch; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Melvin D. Bole officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.

Glenn Linn
Glenn Linn, 67, of 708 Tucker St., died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at home. His wife, the former Beverly Jean Ofstad, died Jan. 25, 1996. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Allenwood in 1982 and worked at the White Deer Golf Course until 1993. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a 1951 graduate of Catawissa High School. He was a member of Third Street United Methodist Church. Born Jan. 7, 1933, in Catawissa, he was a son of Charles A. and Bertha E. Slusser Linn. Surviving are, four sons, Charles A. at home, William E. of Virginia Beach, Va., Andrew Jon of Williamsburg, Va., and Stephen E. of St. Mary’s, Ga.; a daughter, Natalie Linn Rowe of this city; three brothers, Robert of Bloomsburg, Lee of Elverson and Ben of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Shanna, Erik, Steven and Logan; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Dreisbaugh and five brothers, infant twin Eugene, Chester, Herbert, Floyd and Heister. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, 931 E. Third St., with the Rev. Bob Wallace, officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Wulfert’s, Catawissa.

Jane T. Deitrich
Jane T. Deitrich, 81, formerly of Salona, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at ManorCare. Her husband, Fred E. Dietrich, died Dec. 17, 1994. She was head waitress for the former Holiday Inn, Lamar. She was a member of Salona Lutheran Church. Born Dec. 9, 1918, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of James and Amanda Neff Taylor. Surviving are a son, Robert E. of Mill Hall RR 1; two sisters, Elizabeth Taylor of Salona and Coley Meyers of Lebanon; two brothers, John Taylor of this city and Donald W. Taylor of Woolrich; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra R. Slabaugh. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, Salona, with the Rev. Anke Diebler, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Greene Township, Clinton County. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., Mill Hall.
