Gladys B. Walters, 88, of 2140 Warrensville Road, Montoursville, died Nov. 5, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. Her husband, Harold O. “Bucky” Walters, died March 31, 1997. Walters assisted her husband as a dairy farmer and formerly worked at Carey-McFalls, Montgomery. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and belonged to the ladies circle. Born July 9, 1912, in Hepburn Township, she was a daughter of Richard R. and Mary J. Moff Brucklacher. Surviving are a daughter, Sylvia S. Yorks of Montoursville; two grandchildren, Thad E. Yorks. and Amy Lynn Y. Kutay; two great-grandchildren; and a niece whom she raised, Donna L. Armes of Montoursville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, 2255 Warrensville Road, with the Rev. Jerry A. Cline, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Spotts Brucklacher Cemetery, Balls Mills. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Jean M. Vining
Jean M. Vining, 69, of 1724 Green Ave. died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital emergency room. Her husband, Frank L. Vining Sr., died May 31, 1994. She retired from Step Inc. as assistant coordinator of the Meals on Wheels program at Lincoln Center. She was recently honored for her volunteer work at Williamsport Hospital. She was a bingo caller for a local highrise and Lincoln Senior Citizen Center and was known as Bubbles the Clown. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Born Jan. 16, 1931, in this city, she was a daughter of Carl and Genevieve Whispell Andrus. Surviving are her fiance, Spencer A. Pfleegor of this city; two sons, Frank L. Jr. of this city and Carl W. of Montgomery; two daughters, Janet M. Kulp of Trout Run and Elizabeth A. Butler at home; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sander’s, 821 Diamond St., with the Revs. Melvin D. Bole, her pastor, and Carl W. Vining, her son, House of Judah, Montgomery, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Ralph W. Greenleaf
Ralph W. Greenleaf, 65, of 1715 Clarion Drive died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Susan Rampulla, observed their 27th wedding anniversary June 30. He retired in 1991 as an auditor manager for CNA Insurance Co. He was a member of the Bridge Club, Young Men’s Republican Club and former secretary of the Loyalsock Township Lions Club. He was a member St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Born April 25, 1935, in Worcester, Mass., he was a son of Ralph and Alice Foley Greenleaf. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Elena at home, and a sister Ruth Mercer of Worcester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, Northway Road and Sheridan Street, with the Rev. Andrew Kurovsky officiating Friends may call at Kaufman’s, 2102 Northway Road, from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Louise Harris
MANSFIELD - Louise Joanne Heck Harris of Mansfield died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. She was the widow of Charles Hotelling, Morris Richar and William Harris. A homemaker, she had been employed at Corning Glass. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tioga. Born Aug. 31, 1905, in Tioga, she was a daughter of Louis and Ida Enderle Heck. Surviving are six grandchildren, Patrick, Michael, Sonja and Cindy Hotelling and Dixie K. Lychalk and William Walters; nine great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda J. Walters, and a son, Charles Hotelling. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St. with the Rev. John Shypulefski officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Tioga Township. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m.

Violet E. Meloy
RENOVO - Violet E. Meloy, 95, of 350 Huron Ave. died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Bucktail Medical Center, South Renovo. Her husband, James Freemont “Monk” Meloy, died Oct. 31, 1983. She was an oil painter. She worked in the Railroad Shops during World War II. She was a member of Elks Lodge 334 ladies auxiliary. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, she belonged to its women’s auxiliary. Born March 31, 1924, in First Fork, Cameron County, she was a daughter of John and Evelyn Smith Hicks. Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Carr of North Towanda, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Nancy Fike, Mary Williams, Janice Kelley and Gerald Goetz; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice R. Goetz; four sisters, Naomi Swank, Nellie Gross, Maggie Ristine and Clara Hicks; and two brothers, Irvin Hammersley and Charles Hicks. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, Third Street, with the Rev. Elaine Silverstrim officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery, North Bend. Friends may call at Maxwell’s, 205 Fifth St.

Charles I. Swisher
HUGHESVILLE - Charles I. Swisher, 86, of rear 178 Cemetery St. died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. He had lived at ManorCare South since February. He and his wife, the former Lois I. George, observed their 58th wedding anniversary Sept. 12. He retired in 1979 from the former Sprout-Waldron after 30 years as an iron melting furnace operator and was a member of the quarter century club. Born Nov. 28, 1913, in this city, he was a son of Frances C. Spring Barber. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Charles Jr. of Hughesville; a sister, Grace Hullhein of Danville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by several half brothers and sisters. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. William L. McNeal, Unityville United Methodist Charge, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Elizabeth Anne Koffroth
Elizabeth Anne Koffroth, 86, of 546 Hesker Hill Road, Jersey Shore, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at home. She and her husband, Raymond R. Koffroth, observed their 59th wedding anniversary Dec. 24. She retired as owner of Ravens Rest Deli in Rauchtown and previously was a private secretary for Leaman Chemical Tank Lines and postmistress at Uwchland Post Office. She was a deacon at Phoenixville Presbyterian Church and St. Matthews United Church of Christ and an elder at Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church. She was involved with Brownie camps, 4-H clubs and adult Sunday school. She was a graduate of Phoenixville High School. Born July 25, 1914, in Coatsville, she was a daughter of Percy Hoskins and Grace Welsh Hagginbothom. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, Raymond E. of Pennsburg; a daughter, Judith Ann Croon of Spring Hill, Fla.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Rees Hagginbothom, and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, with the Rev. William D. Chancellor, her pastor, officiating.

Helen Henderson May
Helen Henderson May, formerly of Montgomery, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown. She had been employed at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Temple School of Dentistry. She was born June 2, 1912, in Montgomery. Surviving are her companion, Chris May Jr. of Easton, and a daughter, Cherie Benton of this city. Private family services will be at Fairview Cemetery, Montgomery.

Robert O. Millheim
MUNCY - Robert O. Millheim, 82, of 319 Davis Lane, Muncy, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. He and his wife, the former Corabel L. Heddings, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary June 20. He was a welder for Union Local 415, Wilkes-Barre. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre in the Phillipines. He was a member of the Eagles, Milton, and the American Legion, Montgomery. Born Nov. 19, 1917, in Muncy, he was a son of Norman and Susan Barlett Millheim. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Ruth Spurlin of Augusta, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Walters of Hughesville; four sisters, Alberta Robbins of Dewart, Dora Miller of Montgomery, Arlene Bartlow of Muncy and Jennette Kreppenneck of Milton; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Norman Jr. Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Wallis Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St.

Anthony James Gerace
Anthony James Gerace, 72, of 1199 Floral Court, Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at the home of his daughter, Sharon Sechler of 105 W. Hills Drive. He and his wife, the former Dolores O’Brien, marked their 49th wedding anniversary Sept. 1. He was a graduate of Williamsport Technical Services. He was a veteran of the Army and Navy. He was employed by Lycoming Avco for 36 years. He owned and operated the former Atlantic Gas Station at Arch and Third streets. He was a member of American Legion Post 36, Jersey Shore, VFW Post 7863, DuBoistown, Moose Lodge 214, Jersey Shore, and the Newberry Independent Club. Born June 4, 1928, in Pottsville, he was a son of Joseph and Anna Gallo Gerace. Surviving, besides his wife and daughter, are another daughter, Renee Wheeland of this city; a son, Craig of Williamsport; a brother, Jake of Pottsville; four sisters, Mary Claffey of Huntington Valley, Margaret Gerace of Ocala, Fla., Anna Marchetti of Glenn Mills and Lucy Lubinsky of Pine Grove; and five grandchildren, Erica Sechler, Breanna Wheeland, Julia, Brett and Shane. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael, and a sister, Vincinetta Zugzda. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Annunciation, West Fourth and Walnut streets. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetary with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans. Friends may call at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., from 7 to 9 tonight with a vigil at 8:30.

Alan W. Seibert
GALETON - Alan W. Seibert, 53, of this community died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at home. His wife, the former Kathleen Tubbs, survives. He was a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation construction supervisor for many years. He was a member of Galeton Moose, several area sportsmen’s clubs and the National Rifle Association. Born Dec. 3, 1946, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was a son of Wilbert and Betty Jane Smith Seibert. Surviving, besides his wife, are his mother and stepfather, Betty Jane and Gordon Erway in Florida; a son, Michael of Wellsboro; a daughter, Jennifer Martin of Wellsboro; two brothers, Scott Erway of Coleraine, N.M. and Craig Erway of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Rainell Stout of Forty Fort; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wellsboro, with the Rev. Gregory P. Hinton officiating. Burial will be in Parker Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Cheyenne Pearl Derrick
Cheyenne Pearl Derrick, infant daughter of Matthew Treon and Jennifer Kay Martinez Derrick of 501 Walnut St., Penns Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, shortly after her birth at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Surviving, besides her parents are two sisters, Courtenay Renee and Janie Cole, both of Penns Creek; a brother, Cody Joel of Penns Creek; maternal grandparents, Carolyn and Casimiro B. Martinez of this city; paternal grandparents, Gary D. and Patricia A. Derrick of Watsontown; maternal great-grandmother, Dolores B. Martinez of St. Joseph, Mo.; paternal great-grandmother, June A. Crawford of Watsontown; and paternal great-grandparents, Glenn W. and Vivian J. Derrick of Picture Rocks. The funeral will be at noon Thursday in East Side Cemetery, Babyland section, Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Dennis E. Beaver, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Schwartz’s, 247 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg.

Rev. Thomas J. Hopkins
LEWISBURG - The Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Hopkins, 88, of this borough died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in RiverWoods Nursing Care Center. His wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Brant, died in January 1997. He served United Methodist churches in Williamsport, Tyrone, Lewistown, Bloomsburg, Harrisburg, Espy and Light Street. He was interim pastor at St. James and Zion United Church of Christ of Orangeville and Trinity United Church of Christ of Bloomsburg. He was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and served as secretary, as a trustee and on its board of education. He was a member of the Presidents’ Circle of Juniata College and on the board of directors of Lycoming College. He was an officer and board member of the advisory board of Columbia-Montour Agency on Aging. He was a member of Oriental Lodge 460, Orangeville; Caldwell Consistory, Kiwanis; president of the American Association of Retired Persons Columbia-Montour Chapter 1040, and past high priest of the Royal Arch Chapter, all in Bloomsburg. He was past commander of Crusade Commandry of Pennsylvania, past president of Tyrone and Lewistown Rotary Clubs. He had served as the first president of the Columbia and Montour Health Association. Born Nov. 27, 1911, in Nanty-Glo, he was a son of Thomas M. and Sarah Ellen Harrison Hopkins. Surviving are a daughter, Saundra H. Kumpf of Lewisburg RR 5; a son, T. Marshall of Lock Haven; a brother, the Rev. Henry F. of Lewisburg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, South Third Street, with the Rev. John J. Dromazos officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown. Arrangements are being handled by Cronrath’s, South Second and St. Louis streets.

Blanche N. Colby
Blanche N. Colby, 75, formerly of the 200 block of Hughes Street, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Williamsport Home. Her husband, Leonard Colby, died in February 1976. She was a homemaker. Born March 6, 1925, in Scootack, she was a daughter of Phillip and Reba Miller DeHaas. Surviving are a son, Michael of this city; three daughters, Donna L. Cole of this city, Reba Simmons of Hamlin and Penny Schmeel of New Shafferstown; a brother, Paul DeHaas of this city; a sister, Jane Speck of this city; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Grace M. Morrison
WATSONTOWN – Grace M. Morrison, 92, of 225 E. Eighth St. died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the home of her daughter. Her first husband, Paul E. Tyson, died in 1960 and her second husband, Neil B. Morrison, died in 1999. She was a floor lady at Wilson Novelty Co., makers of ramp-walking toys. She worked as a telephone operator at Devitt’s Camp until its closing. A borough policewoman, she was the first woman crossing guard. She was a member of the McEwensville Garden Club and Senior Action Center, Dewart, and Watsontown chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Watsontown United Methodist Church and was a member of the Optimist’s Sunday School. Born March 5, 1908, in Allenwood, she was a daughter of Isaac and Hattie Robbins. Surviving are two sons, Ned W. of this borough and Robert L. of East Bend, N.C.; a daughter, Betty J. Vognetz of this borough; three stepsons, Neal, William and Randall Morrison; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., with the Revs. Douglas M. Eberley, her pastor, and her grandson, G. Edward Tyson of East Bend, officiating. Burial will be in Watsontown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.
