Mary E. Pagana
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday for Mary E. Pagana, 91, formerly of the 1200 block of Walnut Street, who died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville. Her husband, Dr. Charles C. Pagana, died July 13, 1972. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School and the Rochester School of Dental Hygiene and was a dental hygienist for the Williamsport and East Lycoming school districts. She also taught at St. Joseph’s School in the city. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, where she was a eucharistic minister and a member of the church’s Altar and Rosary Society and a 50-year member of the church choir. She was a member of the Annunciation Senior Citizens and Divine Providence Hospital Auxiliary, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Lycoming County Dental Association. Born May 19, 1909, in the city, she was the daughter of John P. and Ella Mae Casey Sullivan. Surviving are three sons, Dr. Charles M. of Montgomery, Dr. John P. of Selinsgrove and Dr. Timothy J. of this city; five daughters, Marie B. Zurinsky and Kathleen M. Wertz, both of Montoursville, and Ellen R. Miller, Victoria A. Tartera and Teresa E. Moore, all of the city; a sister, Teresa Garell of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Michele K. Wertz and Elizabeth M. Pagana, and 11 brothers and sisters. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday in the Church, 702 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. John Manno, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel of Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30-9 p.m. Sunday at the church parish center, where a vigil service will be held at 8:30. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St.

Joanne M. Davis
COGAN STATION – Joanne M. Davis, 63, of Kenyon Avenue died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. Her husband, Harold R. Davis, died in 1964. She was employed as a medical secretary for Dr. James Harrison. A 1954 graduate of Williamsport High School, she was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Williamsport. She was a member of the Antler’s Country Club, Williamsport. Born Jan. 11, 1937, in Muncy, she was the daughter of Adam P. and Helen B. Stetler Kinley. Surviving are a son, Mark R. Davis of Plymouth, Mich. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Redmond’s, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to time of service.

Roland Lee Keller
Roland Lee Keller died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He is survived by two daughters, Candy D. of Lock Haven and Rhonda L. Tedesco of this city; four sons, John L. of Dover AFB, Delaware, G. David, Memphis, Tenn., Robert E. and Roland, of city; and five grandchildren. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond Street, with G. David Keller presiding. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 3 p.m.

Edward A. Avery
WELLSBORO - Edward A. Avery, 23, of Mansfield RR 1 died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was a 1996 graduate of Wellsboro High School. He worked in construction for Penn-Hill Paving. Avery was a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church. He served in the Army from 1996-99. Born here Sept. 3, 1977, he was a son of Arnold N. and Alberta Scouten Avery. Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Cora Bolt of Cherry Flats; a brother, Joseph of Wellsboro; a niece, Jessica Bolt and two nephews, Russel and Curtis Avery. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Tussey-Mosher’s, 139 Main St. Officiating will be Pastor Bernie Wynn. Burial will be in Whitneyville Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will provide the flowers.

Maria G. Johansen
HUGHESVILLE - Maria G. Johansen, 72, of 73 Huddy Hill Road extension, died on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at the Muncy Valley Hospital. She and her husband Edwin L. Johansen celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Dec. 4. Born on Jan. 17, 1928, in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of Herman and Grace Fuelling Loeffler. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Karen Johansen, Morristown, N.J.; a son, Douglas E. Johansen, Wantage, N.J.; two grandchildren, Pamela and Victoria Johansen. Two services will be held. The first at 8:30 p.m. on Monday at McCarty-Thomas’s, 557 E. Water St., with the Rev. George E. Doran, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. The second will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with the Rev. Allen Helwig officiating. The burial will be at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Salvatore J. Mazzotta
LOCK HAVEN - Salvatore “Sam” J. Mazzotta, 60, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at home. He and his wife, Carol L. Kessler, observed their anniversary on Sept. 28. He was a 1958 graduate of Lock Haven High School and a 1989 graduate of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va. He was a Army officer, serving in both Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard with the 728th Main Support Battalion of Lock Haven and was a Lt. Colonel. He served as the Battalion Commander from 1986 to 1992 and then was promoted to Colonel before his discharge Sept. 22. He was employed for five years at the former Clinton Paper Company and for five years at the former New York and Pennsylvania Paper Company as a machine operator, both of Lock Haven. He was employee at Rockview Penitentiary, Bellefonte, retiring in 1999. He was a member and Eucharistic Minister of Saint Agnes Church. He was a member of Lock Haven Elks Lodge 182, a Third Degree member of Council 1774 Knights of Columbus, Lock Haven, and Fourth Degree member of Father Rechsteiner Assembly 0942 Knights of Columbus, Williamsport. Born on Sept. 22, 1940, in Lock Haven, he was a son of the late Vincent J. and Mary Elizabeth Borella Mazzotta. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Marilyn J. Mazzotta of Lock Haven, and Karen Springborn of State College; one son, Salvatore J. Mazzotta Jr. of State College; two step-daughters, Nancy Rodabaugh of Mill Hall and Darla Wise of Lock Haven; one step-son, Frederic DeLuca of Dillsburg; one sister, Rose Ellen Passell of Lock Haven; one brother, Joseph J. Mazzotta of Lock Haven; two grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Agnes Church Tuesday, at 10 a.m, with Rev. Neil R. Dadey officiating. Burial will be at Saint Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call at the Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 East Church St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with an Elks Service at 7:30 p.m. and a vigil at 8 p.m. followed with the Recitation of the Rosary.

Charles E. Moyer
DANVILLE - Charles E. “Woody” Moyer, 74, formerly of RR 1 Lock Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Geisinger Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley E. Neidrich, who died June 21, 1970, and a brother, Earl. Retiring Feb. 17, 1989, he was employed for over 30 years by Champion Parts. He attended the McElhattan United Methodist Church. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He and his wife were married on June 1, 1947 in Lock Haven. Born on April 8, 1926, he was the son of the late Jesse C. and Ruth Kerstetter Moyer. He is survived by a daughter, Cathy A. of McElhattan; a son, Charles E. of Lykens; and two sisters, Faye Klinefelter of Tylersville, and Sylvia Bilby of Palatetteu, Fla. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wetzler’s, 320 Main Street, Mill Hall, with the Rev. John Berry, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Linwood Cemetery, McElhatten. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the services.

Floyd Ernest Weaver
Floyd Ernest Weaver, 80, of Athens, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at the Dar-Way Nursing Home where he had lived since July. Born in East Muncy on June 14, 1920, he was a son of the late Chauncy and Hazel Bartlow Weaver. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for Ingersoll Rand in Athens. Surviving besides his wife, Jessie Haren Weaver, is his brother, James Weaver; three sons, twins Ronald and Donald Weaver of Sayre, Francis Eugene Weaver of Hunlock Creek; two daughters, Judith Weaver and Bonnie Weaver; two brothers, Benjamin Weaver of Watsontown, and Henry Thomas Weaver of Orlando, Fla. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family in Beverly, W.Va. Arrangements are being made by Homer’s, Dushore.

Foster B. Rhian
GAINES - Foster B. Rhian, 85, of Gaines, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in the Green Home, Wellsboro. His wife is the former Shirley Curts Graham. He owned and operated a business machine company. He was a member of Pine Creek Valley United Methodist Church, Christian Motorcycle Association and Promise Keepers. Born Dec. 22, 1914, in South Williamsport, he was a son of Harry A. and Nellie Maneval Rhian. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Richard of Mertztown; two stepsons, Charles D. Graham of Plymouth Meeting and Kenneth E. Graham of Altoona; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Revs. David Shultz and Kevin Hughes, officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan Baptist Cemetery, Linden. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Collins-Olney’s, 14 West St., Galeton.

John E. Wolfe
John E. Wolfe, 88, of 2014 Pleasant Hill’s Road, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Lu Ella M. Kunkle, observed their 58th wedding anniversary in September. He was a well known farrier and retired as a route salesman for the former Allegheny Creamery in 1976. He was also a fruit farmer. He was a member of Kings Addition Baptist Church, South Shore, Ky. Born April 13, 1912, in this city, he was a son of Jesse and Essie Rathmell Wolfe. Surviving are a son, John E., of Linden; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward A. and a daughter, Evelyn M. Smith. A graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Twin Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. James E. Hobbs, officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Garland R. Young
FLEMINGTON - Garland R. Young, 80, of 529 Frederick St., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Oakridge Personal Care Home, Renovo. He and his wife, the former Virginia M. Frank, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 26. He retired in 1985 as maintenance supervisor for Hammermill Paper Co., after 45 years. He was Flemington Borough president and councilman for more than 40 years. He was a member of Good Will Hose Co. and Ambulance Association, Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Volunteer Firemen’s Death Benefit Fund, Clinton County Uniformed Fire Police Association, Lafayette Lodge 199 F&AM and Knights Templar. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1938 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He was a member and past elder of First Church of Christ. Born Aug. 26, 1920, in Flemington, he was a son of Jesse and Mary Krager Young. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Leonard G. Young of Mill Hall RR 2; a daughter, Cindy D. Nyman of Flemington; a brother, Calvin of Flemington; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Walker’s, 231 High St., with the Rev. Mark Riley, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight.

Mildred E. Zimmerman
Mildred E. Zimmerman, 89, of 1610 Elliott St., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Valley View Nursing Center. Her husband Arthur E. Zimmerman Sr., died in 1992. She was a member of Faxon Kenmar United Methodist Church. Born Aug. 7, 1911, in Sunbury, she was a daughter of William H. and Lulu Lantz Long. Surviving are two sons, Richard D. and Arthur E. Jr., both of this city; two sisters, Doris Merridew of Chicago, Ill. and Bertha Bruhn of Orlando, Fla.; and a grandson, Richard D. Jr. A graveside service will be at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in Montoursville Cemetery, with the Rev. Ronald O. Doan, her pastor, officiating. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.

Evelyn Gladys Brown
Evelyn Gladys Brown, 78, of Northumberland RR 2, the mother of a Montgomery woman, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where she had been since Nov. 9. Her husband, Lawrence J. Brown, died March 4, 1992. She retired in 1980 after more than 20 years at Montgomery Mills. She also formerly worked at Milton Shoe Co., Milton & American Home Food Products and had done seasonal work for Furman Foods. She attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg. Born April 30, 1922, she was a daughter of George and Ethel Park Burns. Surviving are a son, John M. of Houtzdale; four daughters, Shirley M. Herman with whom she lived, Linda L. Brown of Northumberland RR, Georgia A. Sterner of Montgomery and Barbara A. Bingaman of Lewisburg; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother, Bertha Rowe Burns, who reared her from an early age. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Blank’s, 309 Water St., Northumberland, with the Rev. David L. Reinwald, Seventh Day Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m.

Donald C. Rockey
Donald C. Rockey, 73, of 432 Third St., Montoursville, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Betty Baysore, observed their 51st wedding anniversary Feb. 12. He retired from John Savoy & Son, Montoursville. He was inducted into the Lycoming County Bowling Assn. Hall of Fame in 1992. He was an Army veteran. Born Jan. 17, 1927, in this city, he was a son of Lester and Margaret Artman Rockey. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Richard W. and John D., both of Montgomery and Keith M. of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Donna M. of Montoursville; a brother, Lee of this city; a sister, Ruth Rice of this city; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul. The funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. John R. Shafer, retired United Methodist Minister, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family will provide the flowers.

Kelly P. Welch
Kelly P. Welch, 34, of 2516 Dove St. died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Kennesaw, Ga., while working for Lunaire Ltd. He was employed by Lunaire for 14 years. He and his wife, the former Donna M. Allison, observed their 16th wedding anniversary Sept. 15. He was a member of Newberry Independent Club. He was a 1983 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He was a member of Linden United Methodist Church. Born Feb. 18, 1966, in this city, he was a son of Leaster R. Sr. and Caroline Schaffer Welch. Surviving, besides his wife, are his parents of Trout Run; two daughters, Alicia and Megan, at home; three brothers, Lester R. Jr. and Robert, both of this city, and Scott of Woodlynne, N.J.; and three sisters, Nettie Jordan of Mercersburg, Katherine Hamilton of South Williamsport and Carol Beck of this city He was preceded in death by a sister, Cheri. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Judith P. Hulslander, officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Virginia Lee Watkins
CANTON - Virginia Lee Watkins, 73, of Canton RR 2, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000. She and her husband, Fred Watkins, observed their 53rd wedding anniversary April 9. In earlier years she had been employed by the former Ben Franklin store here. She and her husband worked a family farm in Union Township, Bradford County. She attended the Spencertown one-room school house and was a 1944 graduate of Canton High School. A member of North Union Grange 784, she served as lecturer and current secretary. She was also serving as rural brotherhood secretary. She was a member of Grover Church of Christ, the choir and served as church clerk. Born Oct. 12, 1927, in Union Township, she was a daughter of Carlyle and Ina Gregory Wooster. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Ann Campbell of Grover and Cynthia Fitzwater, of Troy RR1; a son, Thomas of Canton; a brother, Carleton Wooster of Roaring Branch RR 1; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton, with the Rev. Willard Strunk, officiating. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
