CANTON - Lewis W. Kunzman, 33 of Lycoming Street, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000. He was a carpenter. He attended New Life Church here. Born May 18, 1967, in Fort Atkinson, Wis., he was a son of Lewis W. and Bertha Geiswite Kunzman. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Bertha and Larry Reed of Canton; a daughter, Chyanne of Canton; a son, Wesly of Canton; three sisters, Dottie Smith of Charlotte, N.C., Eleanor Castle and Robin Laudenslager, both of Canton; and three brothers, Roger, Dan and Luther “Luke”, all of Canton. The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pepper’s, Springbrook Drive, Canton, with the Rev. Glen Landis, officiating. Burial will be in East Canton Cemetery. JERSEY SHORE - Rebecca C. Shadle, 50, of Jersey Shore RR 1, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Lock Haven Hospital. She and her husband, James Shadle, observed their 27th wedding anniversary Feb. 17. She was most recently store manager of Speedy’s convenience store, Salladasburg and formerly worked as a clerk at Town Market and Deli here. She was a 1967 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She was a member of McElhattan United Methodist Church. Born Jan. 31, 1950, in Lock Haven, she was a daughter of Clarence L. and Miriam Shadle Young. Surviving, besides her husband, are her parents of McElhattan; a daughter, Jean Marie Bair of Altoona; a son, Dale R. of Avis; three sisters, Marie Pletcher and Violet Englert, both of McElhattan and Tara Young of South Williamsport; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence L. Young. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven, with the Rev. Joseph Wilson Matrey
Joseph Wilson Matrey, 70, of 727 Clark St. died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at home. He was retired from Stroehmann Bakeries. An Army veteran, he was a member of Wallace W. Fetzer Post 71, American Legion, Milton. Born July 18, 1930, at Milton, he was a son of Joseph Newhard and Jeannine Matrey. Surviving are his wife, the former Dutty Diggan; a daughter, Sylvia J. Klopp of Linden; a stepdaughter, Donna Jean Hankins of Round Rock, Texas; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Phyma M. Day officiating. DUNNSTOWN - Barbara H. Engle, 64, of Fulmer’s Personal Care Home, Dunnstown, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, in Jersey Shore Hospital. She was an assembler for Hope Enterprises. She was a member of Salvation Army Church and Home League Church. Born Jan. 5, 1936, in Pine Grove Mills, she was a daughter of Abe and Eleanor Rider Engle. Surviving are a daughter, Connie Bower of Lock Haven; a brother, Paul Engle of this city; three sisters, Helen Bryant and Mabel Sample, both of Castanea, and Lois Engle of Lock Haven; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with Leslie Hilty officiating. Roland Lee Keller, 60, of 657 E. Third St. died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Born March 18, 1940, in this city, he was a son of Dorothy Mae Keller. He is survived by two daughters, Candy D. Karschner of Lock Haven and Rhonda L. Tedesco of this city; four sons, John L. of Dover, Del.; G. David of Memphis, Tenn.; Robert E. and Roland of this city; and five grandchildren. The funeral was Sunday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond Street, with G. David Keller presiding.
Bonnie M. Mann
Bonnie M. Mann, 56, of 1021 Isabella St. died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at ManorCare Health Services North, where she had been for a day. She and her husband, Luther W. Mann, would have observed their 29th wedding anniversary Monday. She was a housewife. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hepburnville. Born Oct. 14, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif., she was a daughter of William and Maxine Lyons Boring. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Trina Swanhart of this city; three sons, Michael of this city, Luther Jr. of Mobile, Ala., and Robert of North Hollywood, Calif.; a sister, Connie Pettyjohn of W. Covina, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Drey and Rachael. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the church, Route 15 and Radar Road. Burial will be private. Kristen M. Ault, 15, of Woodbury, Minn., a granddaughter of Montoursville residents, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, from injuries suffered in a car accident near her home. She was a student at Stillwater High School, danced at the Footlights Dance Studio there for five years and played softball at Oakland Junior High School. Born Nov. 22, 1984, in Denver, Colo., she was a daughter of David and Lynn Ault. Surviving, besides her parents, are a sister, Courtney; a brother, Darrin; paternal grandparents, Gene and Anna Ault of Montoursville; and maternal grandfather, Dominic D’Amico of Phoenix, Ariz. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury. Interment will be private. Anne Nathalie Oliver, 48, of 99 Walnut St., Bloomsburg, the wife of a Montoursville man, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Center, after an extended illness. She and her husband, Eric D. Oliver, observed their 24th wedding anniversary Sept. 12. She retired in 1998 as a registered dietician for Susquehanna Health System. She was coordinator of Meals on Wheels in Bloomsburg and a member of the National Kidney Foundation. She was a 1970 graduate of East Meadow High School, East Meadow, N.Y., and a 1974 graduate of Ohio State University. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of First English Baptist Church, Bloomsburg, and its choir. Born Feb. 22, 1952, in Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of Fred and Sydell Schefren Green. Surviving, besides her husband of Montoursville, are her father of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Samantha Robyn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, Johathan Stuart of Bloomsburg; and two brothers, Steven Green of New York City and Bruce Green of Bethpage, N.Y. A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the church, 700 Millville Road, Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Lee Barnhart, her pastor, officiating. Ellen M. Ramage
Ellen M. Ramage, 90, of Monte Vista Retirement Village, El Paso, Texas, a former city resident, died Sunday Nov. 12, 2000 at her home. Her husband, Charles Ramage died in January 1979. She was employed by Williamsport National Bank and then was self-employed at Ellen’s Beauty Shop. She was a member of the Wheel Inn, Ralston. She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, the Christian Women’s Association. Born Sept. 27, 1910, in this city, she was a daughter of Louis and Rose Verdini. Surviving are two daughters, Liz Green of this city and Ellen Speights of El Paso; three sisters, Philomina Sullivan, Enis Paternosto and Ester Silvagni, all of this city; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crouse’s, 133 E. Third St., with her pastor, Msgr. Francis J. Castellano, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Donald C. Rockey, 73, of 432 Third St., Montoursville, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. He and his wife, the former Betty Baysore, observed their 51st wedding anniversary Feb. 12. He retired from John Savoy & Son, Montoursville. He was inducted into the 1992 Lycoming County Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a World War II Army veteran. Born Jan. 17, 1927, in this city, he was a son of Lester and Margaret Artman Rockey. Surviving, besides his wife, are three sons, Richard W. of Severn, Md., John D. of Montgomery and Keith M. of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Donna M. of Montoursville; a brother, Lee of this city; a sister, Ruth Rice of this city; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan, and a brother, Paul. The funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. today at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. John R. LOPEZ - Mildred Arents, 90, of Ithaca, N.Y., a native of Lopez, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000. Her husband, George Arents, died in 1988. She was employed by Macy’s Department Store, Brooklyn, N.Y. She volunteered at a local elementary school. Born April 26, 1910, in Lopez, she was a daughter of Myron and Mary Kilacowky Matychak. Surviving are five brothers, Fred Matychak of Newfield, N.Y., Sam and Dan Matychak, both of Ithaca, Basil Matychak of Hartford, Conn., and Andrew Matychak of Lopez; and a sister, Martha Grant of Ithaca. A burial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Homer’s, 206 Water St., Dushore, with the Rev. Hieromonk Michael Their, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Vladimir’s Cemetery. MILL HALL - Melvin W. Leader, 77, of 508 Belle Isle Road, Georgetown, S.C., a former area resident, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital. His wife, Pauline Hunter, died March 5, 1999. He retired as chief southeastern forester for Koppers Co., Pittsburgh. He was a member of Church of Christ, Georgetown. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6444. He was a graduate of Mill Hall High School and Michigan Technological University. Born July 24, 1923, in Bedford, he was a son of Thomas J. and Zella Ramage Leader. Surviving are a daughter, DeEtta L. Deegan of Pauleys Island, S.C.; three sisters, Betty of Mill Hall, Patricia Newman of Bellevue, Neb., and Verna Mae McIntyre of Lake Wells, Fla.; one brother, Robert of Mill Hall; and a grandchild. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Wetzler’s, 320 Main St., with the Rev. James H. Redmon presiding. Interment will be in Church of Christ Cemetery, Blanchard. MUNCY - Robert E. Lee Byrd, 90, of Lockland, Ohio, the husband of a Muncy native, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000. His wife, the former Marian McCowan, died Feb. 24, 1997. Surviving are a son, Robert Jr., and a sister, Ethel Gregory-Smith. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Schmidt-Dhonau’s, 8633 Reading Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. JERSEY SHORE - Betty Ruth Rearick, 73, of 1010 Allegheny St., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Jersey Shore Hospital. Her first husband, Richard C. Pecling, died Feb. 1, 1983. She and her second husband, Robert E. Rearick observed their 12th wedding anniversary Jan. 2. She had been employed at the former Sylvania Corp., Montoursville. She has been a volunteer for Hospice since 1984. Born June 4, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of Royland and Ruth Evelyn Zeigler Hagerman. Surviving, besides her husband, are two daughters, Barbara of Linden RR 1 and Cindie Williams of South Williamsport; two stepdaughters, Beverly Jameson of Jersey Shore and Gretchen Speicher, both of Jersey Shore; a stepson Dennis of Jersey Shore; a sister, Ida Webb of Montoursville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rearick-Carpenter’s, 1002 Allegheny St., with the Rev. Kerry R. Aucker, St. John’s Lutheran Church, officiating, assisted by Robert MacIndoe, Williamsport.
