Nina M. Jodun
Nina M. Jodun, 73, of 177 Dry Run Road, Howard, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000 at home. She and her husband, the late James H. Jodun, were married on July 17, 1945. She worked for the Sylvania Co. and later at the Lock Haven Hospital. She was a member of the People’s Church of Farrandsville. She was a social member of the Sons of Italy of Lock Haven and the Castanea Fire Hall. Born Oct. 3, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Rosie Englert Moore. Surviving are a son, William H. of Lock Haven; two granddaughters; and one grandson. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Helt Hanna Kline’s, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Louden Jr., officiating. A private burial will be at the Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Dr. Alfred Brettner
Word has been received of the death of Dr. Alfred Brettner, of Auburn, N.Y., a former city resident, who died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, after a brief illness. An alumnus of Lycoming College, he studied radiology in Basel, Switzerland and practiced in Auburn. He was a son of Fridel and the late Bert Brettner.

Minerva E. Rarick Kimmel
Minerva E. Rarick Kimmel, 87, of 1000 Schuylkill Manor Rd., Pottsville, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Schuylkill Center, Genesis Elder Care. She attended the East Brunswick Township. School. She was employed by Harwood Co., Inc. as the floor supervisor. She retired Oct. 1, 1976. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Williamsport. Born Dec. 13, 1912 in East Brunswick Township., she was a daughter of the late Miles A. and Ella Seltzer Rarick. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Harold, Elbert, John, Archibald, William, Franklin, Harrison and Earl; and one sister, Minnie Seltzer. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton’s, 116 S. Liberty St., Orwigsburg, with the Rev. Joseph J. Scholtis Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Muncy with the Rev. Kenneth Elkin officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton’s.

Dorothy L. Kilgus
Dorothy L. Kilgus, a resident of the Williamsport Home, died there Friday, Nov. 17, 2000. Her husband, Clifford Kilgus, died in 1968. She was employed by the former Capital Finance and as a secretary at Grit Publishing until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. Born in Renovo, she was a daughter of Francis and Ella Seaman McDermott. Surviving are a son, Charles of Bellefonte; a granddaughter and a niece. She was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Shoemaker, and Frances Bovee. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the church, 702 West Fourth St., at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. John Manno officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Crouse’s 133 E. Third St.

Katherine B.W. Talley
LOCK HAVEN - Katherine Bruner Winner Talley, 96, of 345 W. Main St. died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at home. Her husband, William Albert Talley, died May 21, 1986. She graduated from the former Lock Haven High School. She attended Penn Hall Preparatory School, Cornell University, and graduated from Bucknell University with a BA in English. She had been an English teacher at the former Lock Haven Jr. High School. She was a member of the Piper Aviation Museum, Great Island Presbyterian Church and The Sally Platt Lawrence Circle, Daughters of the American Revolution, West Branch Valley Flood Association and the Clinton County Country Club. Born here July 1, 1904, she was a daughter of Forney L. and True Probst Winner. Surviving are two daughters, True Winner Talley Fisher of Bellefonte, and Elizabeth Wilson Talley Piper of Lock Haven; a brother, Dr. Forney D. Winner of Lock Haven and Dunedin, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. Private memorial services will be held. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Flowers will be provided by the family. Arrangements are being handled by Yost-Gedon, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.

Thomas A. Ryan
LOCK HAVEN - Thomas A. Ryan, 81, formerly of 122 Irwin St., died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at Manorcare Health Services, Jersey Shore, where he was a resident. His wife of 54 years, the former Claire B. Barcikowski, died June 9. He attended Osceola Mills High School, was a 1939 graduate of Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades, Media, and attended the former Lock Haven State Teachers College. He was a World War II Army-Air Corps veteran, serving in Papua, New Guinea. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Service Medal. Ryan retired in 1982 after 35 years as a self-employed union masonry contractor. He was a member and Eucharistic minister of St. Agnes Church. He was a past exalted ruler and trustee of Lock Haven Elks Lodge 182; a past Worthy Grand Knight, trustee and district deputy of Lock Haven Council 1774, Knights of Columbus; a member of Father Rechsteiner Assembly 942; a member of International of America Brick Layer and Mason’s Plaster Local 19; a past member of the Lock Haven City Planning Commission and Lock Haven School Board; past commissioner of Junior League Baseball and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post here. Born Oct. 18, 1919, in Unionville, he was a son of Marlin M. and Ida Bloom Ryan. Surviving are three daughters, Cynthia J. Ryan of East Hartford, Conn., Susan M. Ryan of Montoursville and Melissa J. Kunes of Blanchard; five sons, Michael M. of Mechanicsburg, Thomas M. of Pink Creek, Jerome M. of Swissdale, Patrick J. of Yorktown, Va., and Paul J. of Jersey Shore; three sisters, Mary Jane Chapman of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Barbara Risley of Largo, Fla., and Lois Redding of Chambersburg; a brother, John M. in North Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church, 3 E. Walnut St., with the Rev. Neil R. Dadey officiating. Committal will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Moriarty-Dutcavich’s, 112 E. Church St. An Elks service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, a Vigil of the Deceased at 2:30 and a recitation of the Rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 2:45.

Naomi E. Briggs
Naomi E. Briggs, 76, of 505 Center St. died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in Manor Care North. She and her husband, Dana C. Briggs Jr., observed their 18th wedding anniversary Sep. 18. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Born April 12, 1924 in Watertown, NY, she was a daughter of Albert Robenson and Leona Frank. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Nancy Melioris, of Rome, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Baptist Church, corner of Washington Boulevard and Packer Street, with the Rev. Peter C. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St. from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and in the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family will provide the flowers.

Sara E. Welch
Sara E. Welch, 82, of 39 Mountain Road died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in the Williamsport Home. Her husband, Andrew A. Welch, died Jan. 14, 1962. She was a seamstress for several area factories and was a beautician. She enjoyed sewing. Born March 4, 1918, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Lawrence and Jennie Bennett Miller. Surviving are a son, Richard L. Welch of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Carol J. Dincher of this city, with whom she lived; a sister, Esther Broughton of Avis; five grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with Elder Victor F. Weber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hepburnville, officiating. Burial will be in Woodward Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Caroline J. Cybulski
Caroline J. Cybulski, 81, of 300 Leader Drive died Thursday, November 16, 2000, at Manor Care North. She was the widow of Adam Frank Cybulski. She was a sewing machine operator. Born April 15, 1919, she was a daughter of Samuel F. and Frances J. Moon Kissell. Surviving are a son, Adam F. Cybulski Jr. of Bigleville; two daughters, Ann Houlett of this city, and Margaret J. Mawhinney of Tuscon, Ariz.; two sisters, Mable Pandolfie and Pauline Schuman, both of this city; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley B. Cybulski. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Montoursville Cemetery.

Mae Elizabeth Hoster
Mae Elizabeth Hoster, 83, a resident of Kramm Health Care Center, Milton, and the mother of a South Williamsport woman, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000. She was a kitchen helper at Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital. She was a member of the Lancaster Moose Lodge. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster. Born Oct. 20, 1917, in Ephrata, she was a daughter of Paul and Grace Lengle Weidman. Surviving are a son, Herbert R. Hoster of Lititz; two daughters, Ruth Ann Martin of South Williamsport and Kathleen L. Smith of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Carl Weidman, and a sister, Betty Nestleroth. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata. Arrangements are being handled by Ranck’s, 125 N. Front St., Milton.

Charles J. Getsay
WELLSBORO - Charles J. Getsay, 86, of this borough died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre. His wife is the former Thelma Davenport. A well known building contractor, he remodeled many stores. He built Trinity Lutheran Church and remodeled First Presbyterian Church, and Middlebury Baptist Church, Holiday. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Gerald “Jerry” W. Getsay of Ashville, N.C., and Keith W. Getsay of Dallas, Ga.; a daughter, Jean L. Frost of Land O’Lakes, Fla.; a brother, Joseph of Manchester, Tenn.; a sister, Irene Hivick of Warren, Ohio; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private funeral service will be Tuesday at Carleton’s, Route 77, with the Rev. Eugene A. Charsky, officiating. Burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery.

Nina Mae Hartman
WELLSBORO - Nina Mae Johnson Hartman, 84, of this borough died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Joseph Leo Hartman, died in 1992. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Emmanuel Church, Blossburg. He was a past member of Rebekah Lodge, Galeton. Born June 7, 1916, in Galeton, she was a daughter of Charles and Leila Housler Johnson. Surviving are a son, John “Jack” of Wellsboro; a brother, Edward of Belmont, NY.; two sisters, Lily Kish of Morris and Selma Newcomb of Galeton; 5 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elwin Johnson; a sister, Mildred Hurd; and a granddaughter. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Carleton’s, Wellsboro RR 7, with the Rev. John Prouty, officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Germania Cemetery, Potter County.

James R. Howlett Jr.
James R. Howlett Jr., 50, of 2207 Linwood Ave., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital emergency room. He and his wife, the former Pamela I. Marcinkiewicz, observed their 26th wedding anniversary Sept. 21. He was a distribution clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of American Postal Workers Union. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. He was a 1968 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. Born Oct. 19, 1950, in this city, he was a son of James R. Sr. and Sarah J. Swinehart Howlett. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Patrick R. of LaPlume; a daughter, Sarah E. of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, John of Dayton, Ohio, Joseph of Dauphin, and Mark of Kent, Wash.; and a sister, Alice Ritchey of Avis. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the church, West Fourth and Walnut streets, with the Revs. John K. Manno and Andrew N. Kurovsky Jr., of the Church of St. Ann, officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders', 821 Diamond St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A vigil service will be at 8 p.m.

Bruno C. Mahonski
Bruno C. Mahonski, 77, of 2853 Reach Road died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at home. His wife, the former Ruth R. Ulsamer, died Nov. 29, 1995. He was a disabled Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Susquehanna Valley Chapter 47 of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Garrett Cochran American Legion Post 1 and LeRoy O Buck VFW Post 7863. He attended Holy Rosary and Annunciation Catholic Churches and was active in pro-life. Born Feb. 10, 1923, in Nanty Glo, he was a son of Bruno and Anna Kireski Mahonski. Surviving are three sons, Leonard and Gerald, both of this city, and Stephen of Nisbet; five daughters, Joann Bonislawski and Rosemary Wagner, both of Linden, Janet Kissinger of South Williamsport, Anna Guerriskie and Shirley Laird, both of Nisbet; a brother, Robert, of this city; five sisters, Helen Churba of Duboistown, Leona Klementovich, Bernice Winder and Caroline Engel, all of this city, and Phyllis Griggs, of S. Williamsport; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Woltz, and a brother, Francis. A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sanders’, 821 Diamond St. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Rosary Church, Arch and Lincoln Streets, with the Rev. Andrew J. Krusinski officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Tractor Accident Victim
JERSEY SHORE - Minard “Mike” Olan Packard, 71, of 9526 Route 220 South Highway., died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in a tractor accident. He and his wife, the former Sally Ann Michael, observed their 50th wedding anniversary May 6. He was an inspector for Textron for 30 years and retired in 1989. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Born May 27, 1929 in Piatt Township, he was a son of John Alvin and Margaret Matilda Miller Packard. Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Minard Olan III of Jersey Shore; a brother, John Alvin of Muncy; and four sisters, Louise Potter, Betty Sweeney and Delpha English, all of Jersey Shore, and Margaret Walker of Arizona. He was preceded in death by a brother, James L. in 1970. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church, 315 Thompson St., with Rev. Jeffrey Howell, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Rearick’s, 1002 Allegheny St., and from 10 a.m. until the service in the church Tuesday. The family will prtovide the flowers.

Richard W. Rode
JERSEY SHORE - Richard W. Rode, 81 of 234 Valley View Road died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 at the home of his daughter, Donna J. Maines of 33 Pine Lane. He and his wife, the former Jeanne K. Mapes, would have observed their 51st wedding anniversary Dec. 10. He retired after 36 years of service from Orange and Rockland Utilities in Spring Valley, N.Y. Born July 3, 1919, in Richmond Hill, N.Y., he was a son of William Rode and the former Emma Rosenthal. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Richard A. of Fayetteville, NC., Brian W. of Montgomery, NY.; a daughter, Donna J. Maines of Jersey Shore; a sister, Adelaide Lange of Inverness, Fla.; and 7 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery, with the Rev. W. Keith Rockwell officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Monday until time of the services.
