Sadie Svolto, 90, of 312 Cypress St., Montoursville, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital, after a brief illness. Her husband, Peter Svolto, died Sept. 6, 1968. She retired in 1985 after 30 years at St. Mary’s Hospital, Passaic, N.J. Born July 29, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of Giuseppi and Giuseppa Mentolo Rizzo. Surviving are a son, Ernest of Linden; two grandchildren, Elizabeth G. Svolto-Patterson and Peter V.; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Melody Sell, Washingtonville Lutheran Parish, officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi, N.J. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Erma Useted Tameris
MANSFIELD - Erma Useted Tameris, 78, of Mansfield died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at home. She was the widow of Richard Dirk Tameris. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Middlebury Center. Born Dec. 22, 1921, at North Castle, N.Y., she was a daughter of Charles and Nellie W. Farrington Useted. Surviving are four sons, Richard L. of Fort Washington, Md., Charles C. of Wellsboro, Robert A. of Port Orange, Fla., and Matthew P. of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters, Marie N. Clark of this city and Vernie L. Swingle of Mansfield; a brother, Charles Useted of Golden Bridge, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Murray, and a brother, Jay Useted. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Scureman’s, 130 S. Main St., with Bishop John Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 tonight.

Donna M. Blanchard
Donna M. Blanchard, 74, of 517 Hill St., South Williamsport, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in Williamsport Hospital. Her first husband, Kenneth Winger, died in 1948, and her second husband, Ramond L. Blanchard, died Jan. 26, 1999. She was employed by the former Thrift Drug Co., the former Metxger’s Candy Co. and the former Ray-O-Vac Battery Co. She attended South Williamsport Schools. She attended and South Williamsport United Methodist Church. Born Sept. 29, 1926, in Saginaw, Mich., she was a daughter of Jesse L. and Hazel Strasburg. Surviving are two daughters, Pamela L. Bender of Beachwood, N.J. and Linda J. Smith of South Williamsport; two sons, Randal B. Winger of South Williamsport and Mark A. Blanchard of Watsontown; a sister, Joanne Weidman of this city; two brothers, Richard and David Strasburg, both of this city; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Smith and Maxine Stryker. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. R. Edward Cope, South Williamsport United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.

Donald W. Howery
Donald W. Howery, 82, of York, a city native, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, in Memorial Hospital, York. His wife, Edith Zellers Howery, died in April 1999. He was employed by Bower-McLaughlin, York, for more than 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had been a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and a teacher in the intermediate class. He was a scoutmaster at the former St. John’s Lutheran Church. He graduated from Montoursville High School. Born May 27, 1918, he was a son of Paul C. and Martha Paugh Howery. Surviving are a son, Richard of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Lois H. Moore of Trout Run; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Howery, and a sister, Helen Ulmer. A memorial service will be Nov. 29 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. There will be no visitation. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Everhart-Jackson, Heffner’s, 1205 Market St., York.

Joseph F. Taylor
Joseph F. Taylor, 78, of 218 Edgewood Ave., Duboistown, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital. His wife, the former Bernadette Howard, died June 19, 1987. He was retired from Keeler Hoff Supply Co. and had been employed by the former Avco and Pennsylvania College of Technology. He was a co-founder of the former Cottage Inn in Nisbet. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the Second Marine Division Association and past commander, president and a member of Leroy O. Buck Post 7863, Veterans of Foreign Wars, DuBoistown. He was a member of Dietrick Lamade Lodge 755 F&AM and Zafar Grotto, South Williamsport. Born May 13, 1922, in Cogan House Township, he was a son of Merton L. and Minnie Miller Taylor. Surviving are three sons, Joseph M. of DuBoistown, Kevin L. of Liberty and Robert B. of Montoursville; one daughter, Mary Margaret Shadick of Cascade Township; one sister, Evelyn Updegraff of this city; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Noll’s, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, with the Rev. James P. Leuenberger of Covenant Central Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.

Cecelia A. Shick
Cecelia A. Shick, 81, of 1418 W. Fourth St., died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at her home following a brief illness. Her husband, Franklin E. Shick, died Oct. 25, 1996. She graduated from the Williamsport Area High School and Lycoming Junior College, now Lycoming College. Until her retirement in 1989, she was employed by radio station WWPA as office manager, accountant and corporate secretary. Previously, she was employed by Avco-Lycoming and the International Harvester Co. She was treasurer of the Saluki Club of America for 35 years and the Bald Eagle Kennel Club. She was a member of the Figure Skating Club, Alpha Social Club, and the national and local AARP. She was a board member of the Lycoming County SPCA. She was a member of Pine Street United Methodist Church and had been in the Bellaires Hand-Bell Choir. Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Elmira N.Y., she was a daughter of Joseph S. and Frances Auleva Ridall Campbell. Surviving are an adopted son, Donald E. Schreck, of this city; and two sisters, Frances G. Campbell of Elmira, N.Y., and D. Lorraine Willits of Camp Hill. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, 441 Pine St., with the Rev. Drue A. Sherman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Durwood A. Strunk Jr. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers. Arrangements are being handled by Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave.

Margie H. Stroup
LEWISBURG - Margie H. Stroup, 79, of this borough died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Kramm’s Healthcare Center, Milton, where she lived. She and her husband, Raymond H. Stroup, observed their 58th wedding anniversary March 10. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Sears & Roebuck and the former Elite Shop, both in Milton. She was a former member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton, where she taught Sunday School and was in the choir. She was a graduate of Milton High School. Born May 10, 1921, in Lewisburg, she was a daughter of Clarence and Anne Wolfe Beacham. Surviving, besides her husband, are a daughter, Diane Hoffner of Turbotville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Iva Beacham, Mae Meckley, Edna Davidson and Della Emsweller. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brook’s, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, with the Rev. LeRoy E. P. Reitz officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The family will provide the flowers.

Boyd W. Kuns
Boyd W. Kuns, 77, of 536 Howard St. died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital, where he had been for two weeks. His wife, the former Doris M. Stepp, died in 1988. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Garrett Cochran Post 1 American Legion. He had coached Maynard Little League earlier in life. He retired in 1985 from the former Carey McFall’s, Montgomery, after 10 years. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Born March 12, 1923, in this city, he was a son of William R. and Kathleen M. Enterline Kuns. Surviving are his stepmother, Ann K. Kuns of this city; four daughters, Sue Ann Bailey, Kathleen Marie Conrad, Linda Lee Harman and Darlene R. Oldweiler, all of this city; a son, Frank W. of this city; two sisters, Shirley Peoples of Curwinsville and Kathryn Miller of this city; a stepsister, Shirley Stabler of South Williamsport; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Derr. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St., with the Rev. Jeffrey Williams officiating. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Richard A. Joe
WATSONTOWN - Richard A. “Rick” Joe, 46, of North Street died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at his home. He was a life member of the West Branch Volunteer Fire Co. and had been its chief. He was project coordinator of the Northumberland County 911 Program and was instrumental in establishing that Communications Center. He was an operations and training officer. He was a graduate of Warrior Run High School. Born Feb. 1, 1954, in Williamsport, he was a son of Robert W. J. and Esther E. Yaw Joe. Surviving are his mother of New Columbia; two brothers, Thomas W. of Turbotville and John D. of Tivoli; three sisters, Sandra L. Joe-Gott and Cynthia L. Biddinger of Watsontown, and Wendy A. Reigel of Sunbury. A firefighter funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Watsontown United Methodist Church, 11 E. Third St., with the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly officiating. Interment will be in the Watsontown Cemetery. Friends may call at Cronrath’s, 308 Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Chester Wynn
LOGANTON - Chester Wynn, 85, of Loganton died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at home. He and his wife, the former Grace Long, observed their 58th wedding anniversary Sept. 12. A fiddle player, he performed in many area bands. Born May 18, 1915, in Nippenose, he was a son of Ray and Lydia Welshans Wynn. Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Wanda Cooper of Rauchtown; a brother, Edward in Montana; a sister, June Brungard; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Welker’s, 95 E. Main St., with the Rev. Robert Harbach officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Valley Church of the Brethern Cemetery, Eastville. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Vera L. Shover
Vera L. Shover, 65, of 400 Lycoming St. died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Roseview Manor following a brief illness. She had been a cosmetician in Florida. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Born Feb. 13, 1935, in Elbing, Germany, she was a daughter of Bruno and Kathe Mueller Buchholz. Surviving are a son, Edward L. Shover of this city; a brother, Harry Buchholz in Germany; two sisters, Gisela Buchholz of Munich, Germany, and Hana Downs of Casetta, Ga.; and two grandsons. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wildwood Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Terre Blanche officiating. Friends may call at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. The family will provide the flowers.

Esther L. Quick
JERSEY SHORE - Esther L. Quick, 89, formerly of 333 Pine St. died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at ManorCare Health Center. Her husband, Oliver Quick, died Sept. 27, 1986. She was a railroad historian. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Born Feb. 27, 1911, in Jersey Shore, she was a daughter of Emerson Collins and Lydia A. Sauer Bardo. Surviving are a nephew; a niece; and her guardian, Barbara A. Clarke of Swathmore. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Welker’s, 125 N. Main St., with the Rev. Michael A. Guiswite, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Friday.

Gary J. Sveda
Gary J. Sveda, 30, of Pittsfield RR 2, a student at Pennsylvania College of Technology, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Cleveland Clinic after an extended illness. He graduated from Youngsville High School in 1988 and William Penn College. Born April 6, 1970, in Warren, he was a son of Joseph and Marguerite Nyquist Sveda. Surviving are five brothers, Richard of Sharon Center, Ohio, Joseph Jr. of Pittsfield, Ronald of Altoona, Mark of Irvine and Timothy L. of Youngsville. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Cathy, and a brother, John. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Hubert-Lewis’, 314 N. Main St., Youngsville. Burial will be in Davey Hill Cemetery.

William J. Martz Jr.
William J. Martz Jr., 31, of 284 Schmouder Road, Trout Run, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000. He and his wife, the former Dolly J. Kinley, were married June 30. He was a self employed electrician. He was a 1987 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and attended Devry Institute of Technology, Columbus Ohio. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and auto mechanics He was an Army veteran of the Gulf War. Born June 23 1969, in Jersey Shore, he was a son of William J. and Elizabeth Ann Novack Martz. Surviving, besides his wife, are his father and step mother, the former Rachael J. Jones of Jersey Shore; two sons, Jesse R. and John T., at home; a daughter Neisha N. at home; and two sisters, Eva M. Paulhamus of Salladasburg and Lisa A. Jozefick of Bellefonte. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave., with the Rev. Robert T. Busteed, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bastress, officiating. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery, Bastress with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.

Russell C. Frey Jr.
Russell C. Frey Jr., 75, of 196 Frey Lane, Cogan Station, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at Williamsport Hospital after a lengthy illness. He and his wife, the former Martha E. Lewis, observed their 49th wedding anniversary Aug. 3. He retired in 1985 as a machinist for Avco after 30 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Quiggleville. Born March 16, 1925, in Roaring Branch, he was a son of Russell C. and Harriett Route Frey Sr. Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, Russell C. III and Donald L., both of Cogan Station; a brother, Charles of Montoursville; three grandchildren; and two grandchildren. Private services were at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Maneval’s, 500 W. Fourth St.

Jo-Ann Melosi
Jo-Ann Melosi, 50, died, Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in the Green Home in Wellsboro, after a long illness. She was a registered nurse at the flex pool and director of partial hospitalization at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville for 12 years and previously owned a sub shop in Columbia, Mo. and was a tour guide on the Colorado River. She received her master’s in public health from the University of Missouri. Born July 10, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo., she was a daughter of Mitchell and Maude Melosi. Surviving are her parents of St. Louis; a daughter, Caitlin Morris of Riverside; and a sister, Mimi Bixby of Mansfield. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Friends Meeting House, Millville, followed by a gathering at her home in Riverside. Arrangements are being handled by Hinckley’s024 Market St.,Berwick.
